If the marketing campaign is telling us something about this film, it's that you are going to see lots of Bot action and more Transformations than before. What is very peculiar about one of these new spots is that there is an action highlight for Optimus Prime transforming into his truck mode. We haven't seen that before in other films for Optimus, where the highlight is always about him going from truck to bot. There is also our best shot yet of Nightbird, a great action shot of Bumblebee and another transformation shot for Optimus Primal. Paramount also posted a random video of this Transformers film through a Wes Anderson filter. You can see all three videos below.

Hey! Having Optimus blast off in truck mode with a rocket on the back was MY idea! I did that when I was 10, they stole it from me!

Seriously though, this all looks pretty fun. Hopefully this one is more Bumblebee and less TLK.

Optimus transforms at least 3 times in the film while we don't even see him transforming once in TLK. So it at least won't be that bad.

Wow - it only took them sixteen years and at least seven movies to figure out that Optimus could be shown changing to his ALT mode. Truly the entertainment industry is staffed with forward-thinking geniuses...

HOLY CRAP, I just realized this. It's actually kind of astounding. He just emerges from some smoke in truck mode at the end of the film. That's just bad, like no one transforming in MTMTE bad (except MTMTE was written well). It's like an Iron Man film where Tony Stark just talks and never dons a suit.

That can't be correct. I'm positive we saw him transform from robot to truck at least once, the beginning of RotF after he parachutes out of the plane. There's gotta be others.

This, on the other hand, I absolutely believe. Think OP was only in truck mode once in that entire movie.

God damn, Prime's transformation looked badass.

I really hope this movie isn't trash; the trailers and some ad spots have got my partner and some friends kinda hyped to see it, which hasn't happened since Revenge of the Fallen.

Hold on, I know they didn't transform a lot in MTMTE but they definitely did it a few times. Rodimus, Cyclonus, Whirl, Rung, Star Saber, Overlord and Tarn (off the top of my head) definitely do so at the very least, not to mention prejudice against alt modes being a huge part of the plot.

Oh right, logical.

I remember on top of my head in an episode of TF Prime:

Starscream to Knockout: "What do you transform into?"
Knockout: "Into a car, why?"
Starscream with disgust: "Ugh... You're one of those..."

I can't find the video, nor I remember what the episode it was in, but that's a memorable quote.

That can't be correct. I'm positive we saw him transform from robot to truck at least once, the beginning of RotF after he parachutes out of the plane. There's gotta be others.
IIRC in AoE after the Cemetery Wind attack he transforms to truck while still in his evasion mode.

Yeah, and his first appearance in the first film (admittedly he's halfway done when the camera pans over to him).

Correct. Every movie has a minimum of at least two scenes to show Optimus transforming, with The Last Knight and Bumblebee being the exceptions.

I like how Revenge of The Fallen in particular, does the Shanghai arrival and scene at NEST HQ.

He's transformed to truck mode a few times but the big novelty here is that he's transforming into a truck for an action scene, like in the 86 film. That's new for the live action films. He tends to transform into a truck for a disguise, so a defensive reason, rather than an offensive one as we see here.

Also, just a general statement, bots did Transform in MTMTE. Just not all the time as there wasn't a reason to. But when there was an action scene that called for that function, they didn't shy from it, like in this beautiful bit:

How does his truck transformation during the Shanghai scene in ROTF not count as an action scene truck transformation?

Due to many films postponing their release due to the pandemic, everything is coming out all at once. So within the next month, we are getting The Little Mermaid, Into the Spiderverse, Elemental and The Flash with Rise of the Beasts in the middle of all that. And these films are not only big blockbusters but also all family friendly, making for some tough competition.
Be that as it may, the prediction from Deadline is a bold one, with an estimated $70 M domestic opening week-end. So that would be just for Canada and the US, and they remind us that these films have made more money in China than domestically so the film could make a bulk of its money overseas.
However, please remember that while China may sell a lot of tickets, the cinemas there retain a much bigger share of the price than in North America (Paramount would get around 40-50% of the ticket sales in NA and less in Asia).

The budget for Rise of the Beasts is estimated to be $200 Million before marketing. So the film would have to make around $500-$600 Million to break even (especially if the bulk of ticket sales comes from overseas). The Last Knight did manage to make 600 Million but Bumblebee did not. Let us know what your predictions are.

It's hard to predict with certainty, since we live in a universe of infinite possibilities. But I think they're over-estimating, which is something the geniuses in Hollywood have been doing a lot recently. Especially if the producers and writers try to use the film as a soapbox to vent their personal hang-ups, which has also been a predictable (and annoying) habit of theirs.

Though the movie gross is important, in a case like this I think there is more to it. This is more of a total package thing: movie sales PLUS toy sales PLUS merchandising. If the BB movie really did so poorly globally compared to its budget, why did Paramount make a sequel? Easy. Hasbro makes more than enough on toy and merchandising sales to compensate Paramount for however poorly the movie does at the theater. The movies are still glorified toy commercials....just with better special effects than the old days.

That said, I think $600 million globally is not out of reach for this movie. I predict a global gross of $701,225,306.43.

This will either be the biggest Transformers film in history or will crash and burn so badly that fans will be getting into knife fights in toy isles trying to get those Zuru mini-brand balls since those will be the only way to get new Transformers toys.

I'm hyped and I hope it's fun and does well.

Now being realistic, I heard from a couple of directions that the movie has that thick modern layer of wokeness. People aren't eating that anymore and there is already a shift back to normal/good. But since delays that virus could still be in this movie.

+ the trailer looks fun, but blurry and not sharp/realistic. So for not Transformers fans, I can imagine it looks like a weak Transformers/pixar animation movie instead of Dark of the Moon realistic looking practical effects spectacle but 10 years more advanced. Looking at the trailer it actually looks less than Transformers 1 from 2007, it looks more anime/game like in shots/action which is good.

I hope it does well, I hope the Transformers characters, have character and dialogue and not only toward humans. I do hope they incorporate humans and human areas (cities etc.). That battle scene looks very cool, but also very fully cg pixar. It's a bunch of cg animals fighting other cg robot animals in a muddy desert.

Keep it cool, keep it fun and also keep it serious (don't go full Marvel) and it will be a good movie. If it does well, I think it will break even at best. Too much competition and a bit too niche looking at the trailer, and cg just looks playstation 3, whilst we have already got a playstation 5.

Outside of the rock in the 86 movie, there are few distinct riffs from that film....except one: the Unicron theme. I expect those parallel sixths from the Unicron Suite to pop up.

It does, but what's interesting is there doesn't seem to be one overriding theme for that music. It's frantic, fast, and changes quickly, but no one theme really repeats over and over like, for example, the Imperial march in Star Wars or the Indiana Jones theme (ALL HAIL JOHN WILLIAMS!). The Unicron theme however, was repeated multiple times very clearly. That's the main difference I see.

Paramount Pictures has released a playlist on Spotify for the tracks that will be featured (or that they planned on featuring) in the upcoming Transformers Rise of the Beasts film. As the trailers have shown, the film is going for am 90s urban theme, and the soundtrack will help boost that vibe with lots of rap and R&B from legends of the era.

We also see music cues from past Transformers films including the 86 film and the Bay films. This list is supposdly in the same order the songs will play in the film, which means that the theme song for the film by Tobe Nwigwe, Nas & Jacob Banks, will play in the credits.

Arrival To Earth and Unicron themes will be very cool to hear! I was hoping for the original Bayverse Decepticon theme as well, but see how this wouldn't be the movie for that (if they are indeed ever bringing it back).

Tbh I've seen a lot of, uh, interesting takes on this topic but this is the first time I've seen inclusion of non-white people in a movie as being a virus.

Kinda jarring to see hateful rhetoric like that in a forum about transforming robots, but oh well.

unoriginal as hell. i love the unicron theme. i have all of the versions of the soundtrack on cd. but i want to hear something new in this. also just recycling a bunch of jablonkys music sounds really cheap. just hire the guy to do a new score.

He worded it horribly but I suspect what he means is that the stereotypical "Wokeness" is significant enough that it becomes the story. Nothing wrong with equality, race,, etc. Honestly, I'm not homophobic, racist, etc, I just don't care about it UNLESS it overrides the story. I think his worry is that race will BECOME the story and not the Transformers. It could be an element, but it shouldn't BE the story. Culture/race/etc could be the backdrop/setting, but in the case of ROTB it shouldn't overshadow the fact that there are giant f--king robots trying to blow the snot out of each other.

Hopefully I'm wording it better and it makes more sense. Please let me know if I'm not. It's really hard to explain this...it's like walking on eggshells. And I'm generally pretty crappy at explaining things that aren't related to medicine...

That does make more sense, but (unless I'm misunderstanding) I don't get how the issue could be wokeness itself, rather than the same issue *every* live action Transformers movies has had wherein the humans take up the bulk of the screentime and provide the skeleton of the story that the Transformer-related setpieces are placed around.

Whether it's LeBouf fumbling through his romances and quirky family, Wahlberg dysfunction with his daughter or being an Arthurian knight or something (I barely paid attention to TLK), or Hailee Steinfeld dealing with the loss of her dad...the core story of the movies has always heavily involved humans and their drama, with the big robot fights being almost totally unrelated. So it seems a bit odd if someone only has a major issue with that now when the only difference seems to be that the human drama is about race (and as far as we know, that isn't even the case in ROTB; we just know the main characters are nonwhite and will do nonwhite things).

(All that said, I'd also prefer human action is kept to a minimum if it means more robot interactions)

The music of the TF live action movies makes me appreciate the 86 movie music all the more. The music is just awful.

I agree. It's confusing. The drama is there, yes, and that has always been the problem with the live actions movies.

Personally, the grammar-jerk in me hates the words homophobia, Islamophobia, etc because of, you know, the meaning of phobia being "clinically afraid or terrified of". Like arachnophobia. Or anthrophobia. Or Aquaphobia. IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT! READ THE DICTIONARY! (and yes I know the meaning have been amended, but that's because of masses of ignorant people USING THE WORD WRONG! GRAMMAR, PEOPLE!!!) #wordcrimes #petpeeve

I'm more a fan of apatheaia. :HEADHURTS: :HEADHURTS: :HEADHURTS: :KREMZEEK: :KREMZEEK: :KREMZEEK:

The story is about the terrorcons trying to get a mcguffin to bring unicron to earth, and the autobots and maximals teaming up to stop them.

The only thing "woke" about the film is that this time it stars black and latino people as the main human characters, rather than white ones. We will see their struggles, just as we saw the struggles of past white protagonists. If that's enough to be considered woke than that tells me that the word "woke" has lost all meaning. And yes, wording it that way is a really easy way to stick out in a very unfavourable fashion.

True. The cast makes sense based on the primary location of the movie, just like the last one did.
