Ultra Magnus has the exact same paint apps as in CW, there's a far, faaaar superior version of Blurr thanks to TR (and thanks to Takara, also available in a much more movie-accurate deco), and we're getting a more G1-accurate version of Kup. That leaves Arcee, whom you can get a very similar deco of from Takara; and Springer, who... doesn't look half bad, but the Generations version still looks better.
I actually have a couple friends getting this. They don't buy figures by waves and so this set actually works for those who wan to get almost the entire autobot cast.
The magnus different. While the layout is the same he has Takaras more rich colors as well as the white portions being white and not that cream color white.

I am not getting it because the decos are not different enough to warrant this purchase and I preffer the autobot cast I made using TR Blurr (and hopefully with a new Kup). The Platinum Sweeps and Dinobots had decos evoking cool sets that were way out of my reach but this one doesnt really give me much that's new. Though for those who dont have these molds yet, this is an awesome set to get and its priced reasonably enough. Its not a deal but its not price gouging either as other sets have been.
Also, magnus is different, you can see it in the gallery images.

I stared at CW Magnus and Platinum Magnus for ages and couldn't see a single difference. Minimus has different (read: better) apps for sure, but I couldn't see any difference between the Magnuses. Magni?

Magnus has the same shiny paint treatment that the other four in the set have, and has several tiny light details his knees/shoulders/etc. painted in that weren't painted on the Hasbro CW release but which were painted in the Takara Legends release.Kurona wrote:william-james88 wrote:Kurona wrote:I'm curious how many people exactly would be interested in this set now. Which is an extremely weird omission for a movie-accurate pack, since her guns are the ones she had in the movie and the swords are the ones she explicitly did not have until 20 years later.

It appeared on walmart.ca already (and then disapeared) so its more than likely a walmart exclusive, just like the Platinum BB+Grimlock set.

I'm surprised it's only $149. Given it's in the Platinum line, would have pegged it for $175-200.
Lastly, I enjoy how many of this year's Platinum line molds are in this picture:

One thing I might try to post is that goofy pose Hellbat does in that dance thingy...you know, kinda like this:
Oh, one more thing. I seem to remember Sabrblade mentioning several times something about unpaintable plastic. Soft plastics are like that, right? Soft plastic like the vertical tail fins on the jets Hellbat and Guyhawk, right? Yeah, one of the black stripes on Hellbat has really tacky paint and now will forever have my fingerprint.

Crap, now I'm going to obsess over mine until I'm home from a business trip in a few days to see if I have anything to worry about.
Like you, I think the set is really nice for what it is. The headscultps and premium paint apps are worth it, even if Hasbro had to take liberties with the team members.

That soft rubbery plastic isn't the unpaintable kind. Here's a better rundown of what unpaintable plastic entails.Agamemnon wrote:Oh, one more thing. I know it would never happen, but I wouldn't mind separate release deluxes of the left out members. Leozack, Jallguar, and Deathcobra.

Haven't combined them yet, want them to warm up a little after being in the cold weather travelling for the whole week, and I have to get to work. Will update you guys later, but I will say that - based on my experience alone - this set is a nice way to experience a better qc version of sky lynx and brawl.
And on a side note, I do not have a problem with unset paint on the soft rubber of my figures, I was wary of that and fiddled with them with a glasses lens cleaning cloth and then used my hands, and found no problems.

But I really dig the metal giving the figures some bulk, and the plane-modes are glorious. I'm not a big sticker guy, but I think I'll have to put these on. So thus far I love this set and the Predaking set. This has made me just about ready to pull the trigger on the Insecticons platinum set. Any other Platinum G1 sets worth looking into?
The perceptor and Blaster set. I think it's awesome and it also has tons of value since it has 5 G1 toys at once with a ton of accessories, some even exclusive to the set. You can still find it for a good price on e-bay.

The Hellbat issue may not be one that affects the figure in general, because mine is fine. Both his and Guyhawks legs don't peg together very well, so I've got that going on, but the knees are fine.
I cannot believe that people think that this ridiculous drillbit thing on Brawl is somehow a more acceptable Nosecone than the Unite Warriors one. I know that's off topic for this thread, but Drillhorn is my first exposure to the mold and mod, and boy does it suck. Drillhorn is cool, but having UW Nosecone, I can't accept this as a Nosecone figure at all.
Also, this set is my first Arms Micron exposure. I'm not all that impressed.

I'm well aware that what plagues one figure might not affect another, just reporting on mine
That sucks though that your figures' legs won't peg together, I don't think that any of my cw figs had that issue.

Yeah, but I'd heard a lot of good things about them in the however many years since they were first released, so I suppose all of that had influenced my thoughts of what they were. People often spoke highly of them, so I assumed that meant the were things worthy of being spoken highly of. I'm sorry, I guess?
Posted by Sabrblade on November 19th, 2016 @ 11:20pm CST
Some of the Arms Microns might have been praiseworthy enough on this own (I don't recall hearing such about the Gul mold, though), but I think most of the praise came from potential created by having many Arms Microns, as a bunch of different ones together as a collective offered a wider range of playability via the many diverse weapon combinations that one could create from having multiple different Arms Microns.Dagon wrote:Yeah, but I'd heard a lot of good things about them in the however many years since they were first released, so I suppose all of that had influenced my thoughts of what they were.
