No gray/silver, and too much black and gold.

Haha, I see what you did there. I can think of a few transformers with a red chest
But still, for a pteranodon, the central red chest to me is a direct call back to G1 Swoop. At least as much as Big Convoy's red chest is a callback to G1 Optimus.

Graphy with a hint of Decibel?
Mini-con Swoop?

I've heard others suggest Laserbeak, the original package art did show him with a gold beak and the package art for Swoop makes his face look like a turned up beak. I can't help but think the yellow triangles on the chest are significant.
Personally I like to think of him as a homage to Skyjack/Skyfall thanks to the black and red placement. Particularly Universe Skyfall with the gold face and gray hands.
Of course there's that whole Decepticon thing, but in Prime Grimlock starts as a Decepticon so it kinda works. Eh, maybe it's just me.

Nah, more like Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger from 1992, which was adapted into Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers the following year Or given we only have 3 Dinos (technically 2 and a Pterosaur), Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger from 2003, the basis for Power Rangers Dino Thunder of 2004.
OK, now I'm done

I think he's still called Runabout (and I called it ). Never trust the translation the stores give. I mean, "sublime" is most likely "Supreme"
Still a nice list, and a confirmation of some sort that Groove remains in Unite Warriors.

Also, I love the Blackjack mold; I'm glad we're getting an interesting redeco (at a nice, affordable price to boot!).
Finally, YES. All about the Vehicon General. Maybe this means we'll get a Jet Vehicon re-release sometime in the near future?

Yes, but in what form? It's unlikely they'll use this mold since Takara Tomy is going traditional and keeping with the five bot teams. I doubt they'll be making a new groove figure so maybe Rook has a groove head in his mold?
Runabout is a no-brainer, that's who the mold was intended to be in the first place.

What are we getting the groove confirmation from?
Also, Sabr, is that Optimus as big as the giant Hasbro Bumblebee coming out later this year? Does he beat DOTM's supposedly Tallest Optimus figure?

Legends Groove released as a different character (and probably a new deco). Had Groove not been in Unite Warriors TakaraTomy could have released that mold as is, as Groove.

No. That Bumblebee is, IIRC, 2 feet tall. This Optimus is 30cm tall, about 1/2 the size of Super Bee.william-james88 wrote:Emerje wrote:JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Still a nice list, and a confirmation of some sort that Groove remains in Unite Warriors.

Looks like a new mold. Judging from the pic he'll be a foot tall, and feature sounds.
Also is it me or does that Vehicon look like the one from Prime but with something different done for its gun? I see a peg coming out of its arm.
Nope, that's perfectly possible with the regular Vehicon. The gun has two small clamps on the bottom so it can attach to the either the sides of the hood (above the wheel covers), or on his forearms. And yes, the 5mm post is actually on the side of the gun, not the bottom

I wish it to you. But I really fear that this guy will be like Lost age prime.
Both are simpler designs aimed at kids, both are optimus, both are made to interact with other figures, and I fear both wont ever get a US release. Is there any precedent in the past 5 years for a figure made and distributed by hasbro to be leaked first by an official listing for a takara product? Aside from quickslinger and brake-neck (if that counts)?
Also, I have a question. Hasbro is the designer behind most if not all these toys. So when it comes to toys like that Optimus or the Lost Age one pictured above, which might/will only be released by Takara, then is it designed by Takara instead? It's so odd to me since these toys seem ingrained with a line fully designed by Hasbro, based on media that is also from hasbro (Age of Extinction and RID 2015). It puzzles and intrigues me how this works. If anyone has a clue, let me know.

TakaraTomy has done designs in-house; while Hasbro may request designs to be made, TakaraTomy, as owner of the brand, can create figures on their own without being asked to, based on the (imported) media used. On the flipside, Hasbro has done designs in-house as well, but they are few and far inbetween:
- G2 Power Masters (suspected)
- Energon Deluxe High Wire
- Energon Mega-Dinobot
The long and short of it is that Hasbro does design all of the figures for its own market on paper, but commissions TakaraTomy to do the actual sculpting and refining. TakaraTomy is free to design any additional figures for its own market, but as they're not "ordered" by Hasbro, I wouldn't expect the Takara-only figures to hit state-side immediately.
Quickslinger and Brake-Neck shouldn't count as an argument against the latter statement, as there are signs that the heads were requested and included in the mold from the start, just held back by Hasbro.

Thanks! This is such an interesting partnership.
So do you suspect this new big RID Optimus to be an in house Takara design or a Hasbro design that is being released in Japan first?
Also I just realized that all masterpiece figures are all examples of inhouse Takara designs that are eventually taken by Hasbro to distribute in their market.

The fact it has non-standard gimmicks and size point to it being a Takara-only design. The RiD2015 line seems to have done away with figure interaction except for the Mini-Cons and their Deployers.
The funny thing is that Lost Age Battle Command Optimus Prime was made to effectively replace Stomp & Chomp Grimlock, and to avoid "Character Saturation": TakaraTomy lines usually have only 2 versions of any character, tops and Grimlock met that quota with the One-Step and the Flip & Change.

Thats interesting. I am guessing the character saturation only applies to sublines right? Like Lost age and not AOE in general?
And is this also why they are using Warrior Optimus' RID 2015 toy as nemesis, keeping only Big Optimus and that really big gimicky optimus?

Per subline, yes. TakaraTomy's penchant for wrapping multiple Hasbro sublines into one or two to avoid customer confusion does work against some figures. As it now stands, the two lines contain the following:
Adventure Series (TAV): Warriors, Mini-Cons and Deployers, Generations Legends, plus redecos of older or previously unreleased figures, and normally "TED" figures for characters with no other suitable toy (like Fixit and Underbite)
Easy Dynamic Series (TED): One-Steps, 3-Steps (denoted with "Big") and the odd unreleased AoE One-Step and Power Battler
That leaves the Legions unaccounted for, sorta. Extra Store Giveaways anyone?

Hopefully Takara does pull a deluxe groove for their Unite Warriors Defensor. A Bike mold makes sense given how it can be remolded into Afterburner.
