Well, for starters, the original had its thighs in the wrong color (red instead of white).Quantum Surge wrote:I don't really see the need of the anime color repaint, to be honest. What's wrong with the original repaint?

I approve of the white upper legs and the bi-coloured launcher too.
I agree with earlier posters that the shoulders would have been nicer if they'd used the Sideswipe version of the mould there.
(Was there ever a KO of the Alert toy that used Sideswipes Mould ? if there was i'd buy it with pleasure over any other version those should wheels always looks really strange to me).
In fact it cause many a blazing row at the time the toy first came out.
I have a 3rd party Inferno now so I suppose I really should consider getting some sort of Red 'Alert' toy to complement him.
Always really liked the toy - boy was I made of disappointment when I saw what a totally unlikable character he was in the cartoon.
He's not even obnoxious in a likeable way like Sunstreaker or Tracks are.

It can't transform though.
Loved Red on the show!RAR wrote:Always really liked the toy - boy was I made of disappointment when I saw what a totally unlikable character he was in the cartoon.

I suppose that would be the case. Not really digging the more simple Autobot sigil. I kind of prefer my toys to not be too] screen accurate.

The grey legs are nice, but ultimately Red never stuck out in the 'toon for me much and I think the red legs on MP14 add more 'pop'. All the other deco choices on this 14+ just flatten the figure. I don't like this new trend of making MP's that look like PVC figures.

So for isntance with red alert, his body would be grey but with some added darker grey highlights to mimic shadow:
I mean if they are going for too accurate, why not go all out. I would buy the hell out of a line based on that kind of deco!

Also, I don't see the point in painting them with fake shadows and highlights. The toys are actual objects, they have real shadows and highlights already..

william-james88 wrote:Am I the only one who would have preferred a Toon deco rather than a toon accurate deco. I will explain. Instead of giving him the deco that he was in the toon in the Plus line, I would have preferred a deco that would make him look like he was in the cartoon. Kinda like this:
That is seriously gorgeous, and the appropriate kind of cartoon accurate; I'd go so far as to say that that would forever more be the definitive G1 Prime figure

Kurona wrote:It looks like it would be kind of fun; but the problem with that sort of detailing and shading and such is that it'll only ever look good from that one angle in that one picture. It just wouldn't work in real life.
The shading? possibly, but I like all the outlining too, that, I think is what really makes the figure pop

I agree^^
This is the official scale

This would also mean that Trailbreaker and Hoist would be the same size as Ironhide and Ratchet.
That's even weirder.
And the Insecticons just slightly taller than Bumblebee.
... actually if they're that small why haven't they been done by now? Surely that'd be pretty easy to pull off, especially since the animation models didn't stray very far from the toys unlike some other characters. I think the most you'd need to do is work out how Bombshell's chest changes colour, but even then I bet that could be done with a flip-panel like Road Rage's autobot badge.

And love the Insecticon characters! There are already three different sets of third-party MP-Insecticons wannabes! Not that I'm rushing Takara. Gimme Megatron!

Yeh Megs! Megs really needs a decent update.

Yes, but look at those pictures you posted. Wheeljack comes right up to the middle of Ratchet's chest windshield in both of them.Cyberpath wrote:Couldn't be happier with the MP scale so far. The vanette guys were always taller than the sports cars.
Whereas the MPs of Wheeljack's height only just barely come up to the bottom edge of the Ironhide/Ratchet mold's chest windshield.
It's understood that Ironhide, Ratchet, Trailbreaker, Hoist, Inferno, and Grapple were all the tallest of the Autobot Cars, but that much taller than the others?

So you'd rather let them figs slip away because of a few millimeters based on the original animation scale which was so rife with so called errors?

Well, The Transformers was a hand-drawn animation, and by several animators, so the height differences varied. (And never in their wildest dreams did the animators expect anyone to analyse it 30 years later.)
It doesn't matter to me how many centimeters taller Ironhide was than the cars, only that he's taller. And shorter than Optimus Prime. Which he's been consistently shown to be, like you said.
(Optimus Prime > Ironhide > Sideswipe > Bumblebee.)
Also, many scenes were drawn in different perspectives from various angles, and at different distances from the "lens."
Like this re-creation:
Didn't move the figures, just the camera.
Personally, the MP scale works brilliantly for me so far. And some millimeters here or there don't make much of a difference. (But just make MP Megatron the same hight as MP-10, Takara!)

This. It works for me even though it's easy to go "But look at scene 18-3 from season 2 episode 8 and how the shadow of Trailbreaker's hood ornament easily ghosts the entire planet Earth!!!1" The animation wasn't exactly some super consistent high budget wonderland y'all.Cyberpath wrote:Well, The Transformers was a hand-drawn animation, and by several animators, so the height differences varied. Pretty damned spot on when you really look at it. Great work Takara Tomy!!

The slightly gray apps works well. No need to fear on paint discoloration in the future.
