Lightspeed is a redeco of Combiner Wars Wheeljack with a new head and weapon and is the 3rd technobot revealed to us via these prototypes following Scattershot and Afterburner. The images have been mirrored below for your enjoyment. Check out the images, and let us know what you think of Takara's take on Lightspeed in the comments section below. Looks like I had the right idea when I did my Lightspeed Digibash, looks really good, though I'm not a huge fan of the Breakdown mold

In this case there is a significant amount of retooling as well. It all depends what you want from your computron. If you want lavish attention to g1 cartoon colour schemes then go takara if you don't care for all that just stick to hasbro

Optimus Maximus definitely looks better than the Hasbro one to me.

Thats a myth, Takara prices are the same and not related to the amount of paint.
When it comes to the CW toys, paint has had little to do with it. Hasbro and Takara seem to have different paint apps but one doesnt necessarily have more than the other. And prices are the same as well so you arent paying more money. Especially when BBTS was selling onslaught for 30$ and up. You just pay more shipping depending on where you live, but thats the same with hasbro.

Combiner Wars Wheeljack looks good to me, but it's missing some key things that make a Wheeljack a Wheeljack (Like the shoulder spike/wings or fender feet). It has a great looking vehicle mode, but the robot mode kinda just looks like someone made a tiny Wheeljack head and stuck it on a car body that looked reasonable enough.
Meanwhile, Unite Warriors Lightspeed totally works the mold work in both modes. It has all the details that a "modern" Lightspeed would have (Is this the first toy called "Lightspeed" since the 1991 Motorvator?). And he's not even painted yet! Also helps that he comes with an actual gun, and not some weird thing that looks like a badly attempted Squall Cosplay prop or a fist pretending to be a gun.

I'm very tired of gun-swords and lead tailpipes and gun-axes. Most of them don't fit the character which is highly annoying. For exampe, I switched First Aid's axe with Chromia's gun, better for both parties. Most of the autobots don't feel right with those weapons, but I think Deadend would have been better with the triple barrel shotgun and Streetwise better with the pipe since it looks like a nightstick.

The Combaticons, of course, get full access to the armory drawer.

its been confirmed to come to toysrus, so its not a walmart exclusive. But walmart will probably carry it too.
Edit: Also Walmart had exclusives for AOE, they had those awesome beast wars and energon redecos.

Wolfman Jake wrote:If it weren't for the Lancia front bumper, the Wheeljack mode would have nailed Lightspeed's look completely. As it is, it's still amazing how well it works. Takara really went the extra mile with their Computron. I wonder why Hasbro's ended up so different this time?
My theory is this: remember when Hasbro had no intention of releasing the Technobots? Then they went ahead and made Scattorshot, and Betatron. They wanted a standalone torso BECAUSE BUZZBOMB. But when they saw the positive (kinda) fan reaction and how much we all actually WANT the Technobots, they needed to throw something together quickly.
Which also means that Takara is not only engineering all of these, they're also designing more than just Devs and Arcee. They've also done Blast-Off from scratch, and also used extensive tooling on almost all of their own Technobots. Their not working in complete tandem with Hasbro.
Lastly, because Hasbro is not using any of these awesome new toppings for the Computron, it leads me to believe they have zero intention of releasing Shuttle!Blast-Off. A bit negative of me for sure, and I'll happily be proven wrong, but I will not be surprised if we never see him in the West.

It's like if one put a Movieverse toy head on an Animated toy body, only not to that extreme extent but still along those same lines. The head looks so much nicer and more complex in design than how the body looks.
I totally agree. Still, I want that headsculpt and I believe in takara's vision. And I dont have the wheeljack mold. I really dont like those blicky legs though and how simple those arms are. Cant wait to see the alt mode in colour.

Funny you should ask: the short, on-topic answer is "yes".
The long answer is "Yes, but only because Hasbro doesn't own the trademark anymore as his Kre-O figure is called Lightstorm". TakaraTomy still has access to those names as far as I know, but expect a few name changes from Hasbro's side, like Afterbreaker and Lightstorm.

Have you seriously not seen the previous CW figs? Nose cone uses the Rook hands, which have legs facing forward instead of at a 90 degree angle to the forearm.

Seriously, someone needs to develop replaceable feet for the Rook mold (and remolds) so the combiner feet can be attached, plus the hands, and we shall call it, HULK MODE!

I feel the same way. Plus they integrate the drill to go with the playability of the toy by being able to remove it and attack it to the hands. It seems to be able to spin as well. This is a massive mic drop from takara.

No I don't mean the figure I mean country exclusives.
It's stupid and makes most of the fandom to think that Hasbro (or Hasblow as they call it these days) is stupid, cheap and money hungry.
Why can't Hasbro and Takara just use the same molds instead of Takara making all of these expensive and exclusive molds and figures that North america will never get?
And why does Takara somehow have the budget to paint their toys in fancy shiny decos yet Hasbro can't do the same?
It's crap like this that has made me stop collecting and have made me only concentrate on the media.

Because they are, it's why the molds got so over-used in cw, it's the mindset of American corporations, and it is not okay

Yeah ok whatever maybe Hasbro should stop making Transformers since nobody likes anything they do these days
The movies suck they say
The Tv shows suck they say
The comics suck they say
The toys suck they say
It's a toy company making plastic toys for children so parents can buy it who gives a damn if Hasbro did not get the exact body shape, colors and accessories of some obscure character that only a few dozen people care about.
Everything is about money and making it so we can live in a house and eat food so I just roll my eyes when people are saying Hasbro is money hungry yet Takara is not since their the lords and saviors hallelujah.
I mean screw them for doing their job and restricting their budget so nothing goes wrong right?
Posted by King Kuuga on April 3rd, 2016 @ 2:28am CDT
For most of CW and UW I'd honestly say it was a toss-up. Takara was committed to giving the classic rosters, going so far as to engineer two new molds, but the cartoon decos hurt them. Meanwhile Hasbro's combiners have no duplicate molds within each team (excluding Quickslinger and Brake-Neck) and we got the awesomeness of Rook, legends class integration, and IMO superior decos.
Devastator and Computron, however, cannot in good faith be cited as anything but letdowns from Hasbro compared to the Takara product.

What more knowledgeable people above me has said is true though. Different cultures exist within hasbro and takara thanks to their countries of origin. In hasbro's case their problems stem from the upper levels with everyone below trying to do the best they can with what they've been allocated. I bet there was some within hasbro who were annoyed as well over devy.
Takara will have a dark side to them but like most Japanese companies they will deal with it themselves without drawing attention.. unless you're Konami and you think you can deal with hideo kojima without anyone noticing.
Now, nosecone. Drill hand is awesome and I await pictures of him performing giga drill breaker on some hapless decepticon

Do you have him up high, and is the heat cranked?
It's always hotter up high, so I'm wondering if the temp could effect these joints.
It was and still is standing on a box in my living room. I was able to tighten a few things and it's ok. I'm not that upset since I don't leave figures on permanent display.
Normally I'd be all over Hasbro for their version of Computron but I look at it as we're getting the same team done two different ways. Hasbro is using the retooled Groove and Air Raid molds so that's a plus. I like the Dead End mold better and hopefully they've corrected the Brawl mold. Probably not, but we still have options.
People need to remember Japan LOVES drill tanks, there was at least one in every Brave series. I'm not surprised they went all out for Nosecone.

This is a good point. I know most of the people that work on the TF brand have as much passion for it as we do, but they're constrained by the budget that the higher-ups allot them.

This is also worth remembering. Takara is not perfect. The MP line demonstrates that even they have limitations. Sometimes their deco is strange (shiny metallic on Animated toys?) and sometimes they skip molds for whatever reason.
