After getting pictures of Takara's Computron in grey (individual pictures are below, courtesy of Autobot00), we are finally treated to a colour image finally showing us what the colour layout will be. It's courtesy of TF Yuki and it doesn't dissapoint. Instead of going for the standard cartoon deco with having the combiner chest all red (much like the Betatron torso), Takara actually incorporates some tech designs to highlight the remolding of the chest. Also, it turns out to actually be show accurate, as fellow Seibertronian Cyberpath has shown us, since there was an instance where this same tech detail appeared on the show. As you can see with the comparison to Hasbro's below (courtesy of Logan79), the colour layout on Strafe and Nosecone are very similar to Hasbro's. The bigger change is on Afterburner where Takara gives us a full on cartoon deco, with blue instead of green for the windshield/canopy with painted rims.

The toon and toy deco is shown below for comparisons. This computron is now available everywhere, at all our sponsors across the world and at your favourite online store. Will you be getting one for yourself? Or do you still preffer the Hasbro version? Let us know what you think!

I just hope they start to retro-actively sell hand/foot accessories for ALL the combiners like Menasor/Bruticus/etc. which are similar to the new ones they made for Computron. The default hand/foot accessories were a clever idea, but they're just.... not very good.

Sadly, Takara gets a points deduction for keeping with the regular Combiner Wars hands and feet while Hasbro gets the new extremities.

That said, I still think I have to go Takara on this one, the first time I've ever picked up a Takara release of a mainline Hasbro product. Deco aside (I don't usually find the Hasbro decos to be all that bad), I like the extra retoolings on the Takara better than the Hasbro.

And assuming that the Hasbro release will be $99.99 as with the other Combiner sets, $134.99 isn't all that bad for the Takara. Worth it.

If they don't, I imagine that the hand and feet are not too difficult to reverse-engineer a mold out of. I'm sure some third party will be selling them in matching colors for other combiners in no time once the Hasbro Computron launches.

And at that point, would it really be considered a 3rd Party product or simply a custom KO?

Disagree. I like the custom feet and fists, but I don't like how they can't be integrated with the individual figures the way the HFG can.

That's why I'll be going with Takara and the Perfect Effect upgrade kit. A few extra dollars, but well worth it.

You know whats funy though? Hasbro's Computron is the main thing being revealed this week-end at Botcon. Not the greatest timing. Reminds me of last Botcon when Takara revealed at the same time in another event all their changes to Devastator.

These two figures are so different I definitely want to get both, just not sure if I can afford to. --There was a video on Youtbe where a couple of fans actually compared all 3 releases of Devastator (CW, UW, and SDCC) --While overall the UW version was probably better for its additional weapons, and additional pose ability, they did show how Takara missed some opportunities on the paint scheme.

This is how I feel about Computron. UW is clearly better. But the Hasbro version hand/feet, plus the two additional members make him worth purchasing. Additionally the mold use differences really make these two very unique.

Exactly, now everyone there is just going to kinda roll their eye's during the presentation of how amazing hasbro's computron is and then bombard them with questions about whether the new hands and feet can be sold individually.

I wonder if hasbro picks up on being able to make a decent profit on them if they might make a run of hands and feet in black and white for us to use... I doubt it :-?

I just don't understand why Hasbro uses cheap variations on already existing combiners, and Takara remakes the original ones. Better why why doesn't hasbro just wait until the Takara version is done and use that.

Considering the vocal fandom online are a fraction of the over all fandom and the fans who go for Takara stuff are also a fraction of the fandom Hasbros Computron will sell just fine.

Hasbros devastator did just fine. I bought Hasbros, my friends only bought Hasbros and he was always sold out at toysrus. I don't know anyone I personally and physically know that bought takaras. It will do just fine. I'm getting Takara for the reason I posted already. I have not gotten one yet and I feel I should give them a go. If I change my mind, Hasbros will do just fine for me.

I never said it wouldn't sell well, I just said people would be rolling their eye's while hasbro tries to hype theirs, knowing there's a vastly superior version that's been revealed already

Still hoping for an Abominus combiner set that has all new, actual beasts instead of yet more Stunticon remolds.

Still, it might be worth getting the CW Computron just to take the hands and feet, paint them silver, and give them to Bruticus...

It did fine because its Devastator. There are 2 things that you have to consider with that release:

1. It was the year's biggest release of THE fan favourite combiner
2. Those two devastator are much more similar to eachother than the two computrons are ad the price difference is minimal too.

Takara's Computron actually has 3 limbs that are completely different. Not saying Hasbro's wont sell well, it will do as well as the G2 sets. But the comparison to Devastator is not the best.

I agree. I love the deadend mold and was looking forward to it on Computron. The breakdown mold? Eh...not so much. It personally is the weakest combiner wars/united figure IMO. HOWEVER, I do own 5 molds of deadend. It's a great mold but I'm getting fatigue with it

Same here. But man, if you hate that breakdown mold then you would not be happy at Botcon. Turns out 3 of the exclusives use that mold and they cost 50$ each. Ouch!

It still worked. I just acquired the fixed version of motor master literally 2 weeks ago. I had the one with messed up legs for 11 months and I didn't have problems with him. He still stood up fine and managed to do some good poses. I only picked up a second because I saw it at a store, checked the code and said "sure why not"

It is better I won't deny but I certainly wouldn't say some bad ratchets makes him completely awful. Again had it for almost a whole year.

For me it's all how he looks. His body is really long and rectangular with theses wide legs and narrow arms. He's just not very attractive to me. Makes a great limb though so it balances out. Personally I have always liked the character of breakdown. He's the one stunticon that stood out when they showed up in the cartoon because the first time he spoke he was hesitant about joining the decepticons and that just stuck with him. I was just a little bummed with how he turned out in CW

The only change I would make to Unite Warriors Computron is making Afterburner just a touch more orange-red. That would put it over the top for me. Something akin to Hasbro's color choice, but even a shade redder, would do the trick. Otherwise, this looks amazing. Kudos, TakaraTomy!

Yeah, Takara's is the way to go on Computron for me. Not just for the extra love on each individual and Computron's torso: the hands and feet also do me in. It would bug the living crap out of me to have all my combiner's have the standard HFGs, and then here comes Hasbro's Computron with dedicated hands and feet throwing off the symmetry!

The Takara colors and the extra details on the torso sealed the deal for me, just pre-ordered on BBTS. Of course, I'm not ruling out Hasbro's just yet, but it is unlikely that I get both ($$$). If I come into some unexpected cash around the time he comes out, however...

Well, that's the thing, if you wait for hts to get it in, they may have it at the same time they have some of their smokin' deals, would get hasbro's for ~20% off + free shipping ;)

Or just spend the $35 on PE hands and feet. I'm not a huge promoter of 3rd parties. Kinda wish they'd just go away anymore but I did get a couple of them for nothing at tfsource source because I cashed in my points over there. They're not bad. It's just some hands and feet so I figured what's the harm.

If I could get both I would since both look nice in their own way and then I would repurpose the Hasbro one as either the prototype (Betatron) to Computron or it would be an upgrade to Computron (Upgratron?)

Honestly their so different that they should not really be compared their two different takes on one group one is more accurate to the original (Takara) and the other is a reimagining/homage (Hasbro).

Also because Takara doesn't exactly make those decisions. Hasbro are the ones that decide on what to put out. If hasbro didn't do combiner wars, than Takara wouldn't have made United. Same for Power Core Combiners. 3 or 4 years after we got PCC they started using PCC wasn't it? Same as animated? Takara follows what hasbro does. That's the truth. That's why most of the legends figures came out 9 months to a year after Hasbros releases. Hasbro does their thing and Takara waits to see how they can achieve it as well. That's why it's taken 2 1/2 years for Takara to finally do something with the Generations Skids mold. Still nothing on Jhiaxus...

Takara is very picky on what they want to make and do. It's in Hasbros best interest to wait and see what Takara does, especially if a lot of behind the scenes designing is from Hasbro.

The Takara one is amazing, the only things Hasbro has in it's favour is using the Streetwise mold for Lightspeed and Scrounge

Because Takara isn't as restricted in terms of Production Costs as Hasbro. Simple as that.

I dont get the mention of behind the scenes, Hasbro has videos of designers talking about coming up with combiner wars. The system is well known:

Hasbro comes up with a design
They send it to Takara and pay takara to do the engineering
Takara then gets to use that toy to do as they wish with it (including remolding it)

With Computron what is interesting is that all the molds were already available. The engineering was already done for all of them. Takara did their thing and so did Hasbro, at the same time. I am sure both knew what they were doing.

And you are totally right in saying that Takara only did these now because Hasbro started it. However, it is not true to say that Takara always waits for Hasbro. They didnt for these combiners:

Image

Or the etire MP line.

Also Takara releasing things after means nothing. Its not because Hasbro has a head start, the engineering is done by Takara and they can both release them after if they want. The Entire Galaxy Force line was first released by Takara.

And here's a modern day example: the TAV Quillfire and Thunderhoof were released in Japanese retail before American retail.

The schedule doesnt mean anything and shouldnt serve as a support to any argument.

Wait till you see streetwise as lightspeed to pass judgment. Word on the street is it doesnt look good at all.

All of the Autobots (Cybertrons) *sans Brave Maximus* for the 2000 CR (2001 RiD)line and Megatron (Gigatron) were all original Takara designs. Those are still some of my favorites to this day.

Gigatron wasn't a takara mold?

Thanks for mentioning those weird combiners from their Prime spinoff. I was thinking about them the entire time I was posting but I just couldn't remember their names and what they turned into because I really didn't care about that.

Takara does do their own stuff once in a while and when they do it's weird as hell. In my opinion lol. From That odd prime spinoff to Nike shoes transformers to those weird SD quick change car bots that are popular.

Takaras marketing is something to be desired a lot. Take our legends figures that they're shoehorning into their version of RID. Bombshell, Blackjack, animated Dinobots and some generations toys. Sometimes It feels like Takara doesn't know how put stuff out sometimes.

A lot of it might just be that Takara doesn't want to create original fiction. That's why as cool as their legends repaints are, the mini comics that come with them are just a bit ridiculous.

And let's not forget Kiss players...ugh... Lol just kidding.

Just making sure, does that mean you find the Masterpiece line weird as hell?
