Both Autobots were originally Japanese exclusive characters that have yet to see a release of any form from Hasbro. Greatshot was originally a character and toy from Takara's exclusive Victory series in 1989 and Grand Maximus was originally from Takara's exclusive Masterforce series in 1988. You can view a massive gallery of Masterforce Grand Maximus right here on Seibertron.com.
LG-EX figures are usually show exclusive figures that do get carried by domestic collector shops. Due to this, LG-EX exclusives generally cost more than main line figures. It appears maybe the first 3,000 come with pretender shell, but it’s not easy to translate. If anyone out there is better at Japanese than us and can tell us what is written on these images, let us know in the forums or via our contact form.
Below are the images, which have been updated to be much larger images than what we originally posted.
And here's a pic of G1 Grand Maximus alongside his fellow Masterforce Cybertrons and Destrons!

Just found out that it says that if orders for Grand Max exceed 3000, then the clear Pretender shell will be included.william-james88 wrote:It appears maybe the first 3,000 come with pretender shell, but it’s not easy to translate.

Maybe it's just the color in the images, then, but all I see are red, black, and bright blue, and that says Brave Maximus to me, not Grand Maximus, who had a considerable amount of teal on him. The inclusion of the Pretender is the only thing that says Grand Max to me.

Or white shorts.
Or blue leg cannons.
Or a sword.
Or a Pretender shell.
Or "Gurando Makushimasu" as his name.

I concede, but I still can't figure out where al the black on the Grand Max-EX figure is coming from. That's what threw me off, because Brave Max has SO much more of it.

It's not black, it's badly-lit dull green.Bounti76 wrote:

Hard to believe I posted this just 11 hours ago ... and now we know about a Grand Maximus coming down the pipes. Go figure.

A friend in the business stated that Takara Tomy Mall items are also usually carried by Hasbro Asia, so (for retailers at least) the prices might be cheaper than TT Mall's?
As for the pretender, my guess is that there will be a recoloured, Power of the Primes mini/faux-pretender (in the original G1 Grand Maximus colours) AND a clear blue version of this figure (limited to the first 300 or 3,000 customers).
That's just a guess, though.

I'm afraid that's actually fairly standard for a leader-sized figure due to how the Yen is these days. Here's Sixshot for comparison; only about a 500 yen difference:-

Anyway, the first 2,000 orders will guarantee Grand Max is made. If it reaches 3,000 orders, then they will include the clear blue pretender.

We'd better hope the demand is there. Takara canceled several proposed rereleases earlier this year due to lack of preorders. Grand Maximus is high price tag item. How many Japanese fans are going to double dip on the Fortress Maximus mold just for a straight up recolor and maybe a bonus pretender shell?
Glad to see we're getting Greatshot potentially too. Would it be too much to hope for a Sixknight recolor of Titans Return Quickswitch at this point, if only to account for all four of the G1 six changers?
I've got Titans Return Seaspray already, but Takara knows how to lure me in using my greatest weakness...animation accurate colors and details! I'm in! I'm going to get Takara's Topspin and Twintwist too, mainly for the Targetmaster figures, but I also because I dig their richer blue plastics and other paint details as compared to their (already very good) Hasbro versions.
Finally, I also just got my Legends Targetmasters Hot Rod and Kup today. Love 'em! The colors are gorgeous! Kup almost looks like he stepped right out of the original cartoon! The new head sculpt by Takara is so much better than Hasbro's offering. I appreciate Hot Rod's darker magenta coloring for better animation accuracy too. I kind of like the translucent flame effect for his hood as well. I'm still considering cutting out some yellow paper to place behind/underneath the hood to help give the flames a little more "oomph." The slight remolding to hide the engine block in robot mode is icing on the cake. Lucky for me, my Hot Rod doesn't have herpes lips, though the paint work on the face isn't as perfect as it could have been. It's, nothing terrible, honestly. Just a little unpainted plastic peeking through at some of the harder to paint edges of detail, like around the eyes and where the cheeks of the face meet the helmet.
I got myself a trio of Legends Sharktiocns too. They'll boost my Titans Return Sharkticon ranks to make a true horde as serve as some of the more "elite" members of the Sharkitcons, being the more cartoon accurate ones. The Sweeps heads work well enough with the trio of Titans Return Scourge figures to serve as the Sweeps for my "proper" Scourge, Takara's Legends version.

The Pretender Shell is indeed an early release of a PotP toy, but one we never saw announced or even leaked. The detailing points towards the shell belonging to Waverider aka Diver:
Transformers Super God Masterforce Waverider (Diver) Gallery
However the arms show the future Waverider toy will be a retool of Cloudburst:
With that out of the way, color me surprised with Great Shot.

I feel like it's gonna be soon or truly never on that one. I'm sure it's not logistically trivial to do a run of these and while the tooling's available during the next Metroplex run would seem like the approptiate time for it to happen.megatronus wrote:Gives me hope for LGEX Metrotitan, some day.

You mention something that I am not sure everyone realizes:
1. Grand Maximus happening is not a sure thing
2. None of us here aside from Primal X Convoy can make it happen
Regardless of whether or not it will be carried by shops outside Japan, the only thing Takara is looking at is the amount of preorders on Takaratomymall, which can only be done with a Japanese adress. Are there 2000 Japanese fans ready to put down over $200 for this?
I also wanted to talk about Seaspray. I know the Legends verions gets the blue windows right and doesnt have the sticker detail on the chest, but what do you feel about that weird yellow on the side? That looks super off to me.

ME: sees pictures of figures that look bloody awesome, but don't know their names in email, but headed home where there is very little service and cannot access site, but can still send emails
ME (10:00): sends email: who are these guys?
Seibertron: Greatshot and Grand Maximus.
ME: sees information about potential pretender shell.
ME: so awesome!! a remolded 6-changer is the most badass colors possible and a titan with a pretender shell!! AKA decoy suit
ME: I feel like I will need to pre-order these if I can
Factual information: need so many pre-orders in Japan before they will happen
My wallet: don't you frikkin' dare
ME: don't let me down Japan.
wallet: let him down, we don't need to spend that kind of money
ME: chucks wallet to dog and tells him to bury wallet. I don't need that kind of negativity in my life
In summary: Japan, do not let me down. I at least want Greatshot, and maybe Maximus
