The untappered thicker knees and thighs on the line art looks better than the prototype. That's the only thing that I can nit-pick at.

I'm starting to really hate those hands, nowhere in g1 does Jack have hands that look like that. these are more of a classics updated interpretation of his hand guards/shield

If anything it's more an updated interpretation of his G1 toy with the guards/shields shifting from behind to the sides.

And is most likely a necessary compromise so the hands are covered in alt mode. If that and the 'thin' thighs are the only compromises, then there really isn't anything much to complain about considering the liberties taken by the G1 animators >:oP

But like the toy they should be at the bottom, or at at least they should not be angled and come to a sharp point. There is also this raised circle detailing on the hand guards that really take away from the g1 look.

I really like how they still sketch these designs out by hand rather than relying purely on CAD and CG. You can really see how the transformations are thought out.

Following up his earlier comparison tweet of MP-20 Wheeljack with MP-12 Sideswipe, MP-18 Bluestreak, and MP-Smokescreen, Takara Tomy designer Shogo Hasui has revealed the group in robot mode. However, MP-17 Prowl has replaced MP-Smokescreen for this shot. Check em out below!

man.. this is going to be way way WAY too long of a wait.

he looks almost perfect.. as usual.

i really hope we see teasers or prototypes of bumblebee and magnus soon.

i am surprised that he didn't flatten out prowl's feet.. they're very articulated and would've easily been able to sit flush on the ground.. not to mention i don't see his heal flipped out.. odd for someone who designed it to overlook that.

Takara Tomy designer Shogo Hasui continues to tweet new images of the Transformers Masterpiece MP-20 Wheeljack prototype, this evening we get a little closer look at shoulder mounted weapon. His Magnetic Inducer Shell can at very least be removed from the launcher, possibly fired. Image mirrored below.

Given the size difference between him and MP Frenzy, reenacting his famous use of this weapon in Marvel US#9 will seem kind of mean. But if it actually fires, that's what's happening as soon as he's out of the box.

You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I'd really like someone to give us the toy head. Even as a kid I thought the cartoon eyes thing was dorky compared to the medieval-knight visor the toy had.

At the point where we're seeing test shots 7 months in advance, I think the August date is for real.

Remember, this was rumored to be for Q2 2014, so I think (hope) the official August release date is already the pushed back, final date.

This has nothing to do with MP-10.

I'll need to be convinced that WJ's hands are that way because of the transformation. Otherwise it shouldn't have been that hard to match the toon and G1 toy model for the hands and those stupid wrist guards.

They should have just gotten rid of them to begin with in the MP design. He didn't always have them in the g1 animation, it depended on the scene and episode.

In the pic on the last page, the drawing shows the back of Wheeljack's legs as covered. I really hope that stays that way. One of my peeves of the MP cars is the hollow legs.

His hands are like that due to the transformation, look at the drawing and the prototype again, you'll notice how his hand guards are the taillights of the car-mode.

I also remember back in WWI, DonFig illustrated him in 2 ways, no optics in combat mode (like DM's pics of a knight's visor down) and optics out when conversing in a more safe situation. Maybe a 3rd party accessory would be made to simulate the effect?

Cyberpath's statement says it all, the eyes/optics humanizes the nerdy hotrodder.

Thought so too, it's pretty unlikely that the official promo work would feature the figure in the exact same pose and angle as the unpainted prototype. Including it's flaws, well assuming the crack on the chest is a flaw.

And a Japanese release wouldn't have the function of "Mechanical Engineer", which is more of a homage to the third Energon-Os video.

Simply "Engineer" is probably what it would say. Or "Technician". ;)

I think the crack on the chest is intentional. The original car has gullwing doors, if I'm remembering correctly. Perhaps they're trying to replicate it. Or at the very least, maybe the chest opens in that manner to allow kibble n' bits to move around for transformation.

I also thought that it was the doors, but then I noticed how the crack follows just one of the doors while the left is just a solid piece with the chest.

But it might still be something for the transformation, I guess we'll see once we get in hand pics.

Courtesy of the Snakas blog from Autobase Aichi, we are able to get a glimpse of a feature from issue 193 of Figure King, in which Takara Designer Shogo Hasui reveals some elements of the upcoming Transformers Masterpiece Wheeljack figure. Read on below for an attempted translation of the original, found here.

(The article also lists other highlights from the magazine, including a special Tomy licensed Transformers iPhone 5 case).

* The interpretation of Wheeljack's transformation was rather 'arcane' (new? innovative?).
* "Structure of the head and waist became great way stuffing"
* The removable shoulder cannon can be installed in the vehicle mode roof.
* The hand gun can be stored in the figure's 'underbody' (?).
* The wings on the robot's back are transformable, and do not need to be removed.
* Thansk to the Tomica branch of the company (model cars), the licensing was a lot easier to negotiate with car manufacturers.
* Color of the car mode is faithful to the actual vehicle. On the other hand, the robot mode colors are closer to the cartoon.
* Thanks to the sale numbers for MP- Lambor to Streak, they were able to add new parts to Smokescreen, and Wheeljack was developed without having to consider repurposing.
* The first three realistic cars of the Masterpiece line were supposed to become 'super cars'.
