EDIT: He appears to use components from Overlord/Sky Shadow and Twintwist, all from Titans Return/Legends. So not quite a whole new mold, but still some unique potential mold reuses!
Big Powered only ever showed up in the pages of Zone as the combined form of the above mentioned Powered Masters, which themselves have put in only a small number of appearances in media, so it is incredible that we appear to be getting whole new toys of the team.
Check out the gray model images below, and let us know what you think of this bizarre reveal!

Can't quite tell if Sonic Bomber is all new or likewise uses a preexisting mold (maybe Misfire?) as a base.

I agree, I was looking at the bottom tank part and it looks like Overlord/Sky Shadow's tank component, and now that you say it, that definitely looks like Twintwist up top

I was just about to post this. Overlord was the first thing that came to mind, but the tank treads on Twin Twist was the dead giveaway to me.
Either way, this is a fantastic re-use of existing molds, possibly with new parts. Awesome and thank you, Takara Tomy!

At first glance, but it turns out he is not. It is a very clever repurposing of tooling we got in Titans Return, take a look:

Can't wait to see a full colored protype.
Props go to Takara. Hopefully it won't be prohibitively expensive.

This is incredible. Probably gonna be around $200, but dang, I think I need that

Yeah, it being an exclusive will also raise the price. I really wish it wasnt, always makes it pricier for no good reason and makes it less obvious to get for international fans.
I will get it though.

Just a guess regarding Sonic Bomber's mold. It could be a different jet, or maybe even an all new mold. Hard to tell from that pic, frankly.Seibertron wrote:Where is Misfire in that mess? I don't see his mold re-used. I definitely see Overlord and Twin Twist though.

He is in the front, the black jet component of Big Powered. You can match Misfire's cockpit shape and especially the details at the side fo the cockpit, which appear to be unchanged. Plus the arms atthe side have the same transformation and joints.

Look at the details I mention above and it will become more obvious of it beign Misfire. Its not a guess, or at least not moreso than the others.

I actually agree that it's a mess but hey, it's a gray model. I bet color will help. As is, the G1 combined vehicle mode is cleaner.
I am happy to be getting updated versions of the characters and think the robot modes will probably look great!

The arms are the really noticeable part. Other than that, there isn't much, but it looks like that front jet shares the Misfire arms

Not so sure about that, I was about to post that the original G1 version was a bit of a mess too in that goofy combined mode, but I still think this is extremely awesome ... mess and all!

Yah, I can see it now. It's the left side below Misfire's cockpit that I can see is getting re-used, though the canopy and front is entirely remolded.

Which is a shame because Star Saber would have been absolutely perfect for the "evolution" gimmick in Power of the Primes, mixed with a leftover Titan Master gimmick from Titans Return. He would have been an amazing "transition" figure between the two series. Hopefully they've got something really awesome planned for ol' Star Saber and Deszaras.

Yeah yeah I know, blame people like me who voted for a monkey. We didn't know that was going to be the Leader gimmick when the vote was around.

Conversely, the existence of both this new set and the current God Ginrai set makes me even more glad that the MP Star Saber figure scales so well with the Generations/Legends toys, being the height of a CW Combiner like how Star Saber was combiner-sized in the cartoon.Skritz wrote:Seibertron wrote:Skritz wrote:This is glorious and only make Star Saber's absence from a main line all the more grating, unless he's coming up in Siege. That combined mode looks insane, but I highly doubt this is something I'll be able to get my hands on. This is bound to be over 100 bucks at the very least, it's a three-pack of exclusive figures. That's crazy.
Nice to see that Takara isn't letting the brand unification hold them back from putting out these kinds of crazy shenanigans though.

That's probably the reason it's seemingly taking so long to get a Star Saber release in "Generations" format. Takara is probably thinking, "we already gave fans a perfect Star Saber in the Masterpiece line. Why would you need anything else?"
Also, I'm still holding out hope that we're getting the Autobot Targetmasters at some point in the Legends line, probably as EX releases, hopefully as a box set. If Takara can pull of this magic by retooling Black Shadow/Overlord, Twin Twist, and Misfire, they can certainly pull off the redecos of Titans Return Kup, Titans Return Hot Rod, and TR/LG Full-Tilt that they've already basically designed a la the Transformers Legends manga.

I'm thinking it's my least favorite Masterpiece figure of all time. It was literally opened, photographed for Seibertron.com, and put back in the box. I don't have it with the rest of my Masterpiece figures. I really would like to see a proper Leader Class or Supreme Class styled Star Saber and Deszaras.

Disappointment came from seeing those molds used in the Legends Manga. Takara and Hasbro can do better for those 3 awesome Autobot Targetmasters who have never received proper updates before. It's been too long ... they need to be done right. If they are going to be remolds, I would expect something much better than something remolded from Full-Tilt. In addition, Titans Return Kup is one of the worst figures in my opinion from the past few years. I hope to see that figure never used again.

Wow. I really love the TR/LG Kup mold. What makes you so averse to it?
I know it would be nice to get all new molds for the Autobot Targetmasters, or even just more heavily remolded ones, but in all honesty, I don't think we're going to get them any time soon unless they are mostly repaints. Hasbro has gone back to "square one" with Siege. It's unlikely they're going to offer anything but 1984-86 characters for quite some time. I think only Takara's Legends line is going to keep us going with the post 1986 stuff. I'm sure a boxed set of the Legends manga repaints of Crosshairs, Sureshot, and Pointblank would sell like hotcakes. It would be relatively "cheap" for Takara to produce, and they already put out all of their Targetmaster partners too. I would be floored if Takara let this opportunity slip through their fingers, honestly.

Wolfman Jake wrote:Wow. I really love the TR/LG Kup mold. What makes you so averse to it?
It's a bad figure, most noticeable from the side because his chest is flat (when it should be at an angle or there's something else off with it, but it doesn't look right regardless), he has no backpack, the back is too flat with the location of the back of his head/neck, lower legs are far too bulky, and so on. It's a good example of cost-cutting instead of doing a figure right. Hopefully Kup is on the shortlist of figures that should be redone in the near future.

Too Gundammy? Iirc, him and Gundam share the same designer(the original RX-78-2)and he sold like hotcakes in Japan.
Though it boils down to personal preference but the MP Starsaber imho is, well too anime perfect. Only thing lacking was a separate solid "battle up" helmet with Jean as a mini figure to replicate his appearance when he first enrolled jean in that Euro private school.
Then Takara suddenly forgot about Victory Leo

Since Siege will bring Micromasters back, having properly scaled vehicles and/or bases is definitely neat. Maybe modern Battlestars are not such a remote possibility any more?

ZeroWolf wrote:To say they forgot about victory Leo is a bit misleading as Star Saber wasn't planned from the get go anyway as he won that fan poll. He and Ultra Magnus (and hot rod now I think about it) were blips in what the mp line was doing at that point.
Saber and Leo are like Peanut butter and Jelly. Like GGinrai and GBomber. Takara should have followed through with the combo is all I'm saying.
Just like Takara forgetting to release Grandus and Skygarry when they released Starconvoy back in 2005.
