Various sources have announced that they have received solicitations from Takara Tomy for a new Japanese series of Transformers figures, the TG line, most likely an acronym for Transformers Generations. Starting the line off is TG-01 Optimus Prime and TG-02 Autobot Jazz, which will be the Japanese releases of the Fall of Cybertron figures. As with many Japanese releases of North American figures, collectors can expect different paint apps and the possibility of chrome highlights.
The first preorders for these figures can be found at site sponsor Kapow Toys

Although I'm not sure a nice, shiny coat of paint can make these lackluster figs the jam either way...

Good point. That will be an interesting one to see how it's handled. I wonder if the Arms Micron figure will just be integrated into this TG line.

So it's like Henkei then? OK then.
btw I wish TakaraTomy had gone with a designation other than "TG"

Only the packaging is different, the EU Deluxe cards are smaller than the rest of the world's by 1/6th. The figures are all the same.

Upsizing molds? Wouldn't that make them a KO company?

Only once, even that was exceptional. Don't get your hopes up.

Considering the Arms Micron figure is being released the same month these are supposedly coming out (December 2012), I don't see it happening.
TakaraTomy is moving Shockwave to their Prime line to get more figures out for that line because he appears on the show.
Rated X wrote:Good news. This opens up the door for metallic paintjobs and extra paint apps that make these small crappy figures actually worth buying. How about a G1 accurate FOC Bruticus that includes a proper grey and blue Vortex ? I pre-ordered that Takara Shockwave hoping it would have a more cartoon accurate paintjob like Henkei Cyclonus colors.
Well he's going to be on the Prime cartoon so I imagine the toy's colors might be changed to reflect that version rather than the G1 cartoon.

Not Has to Tak version, but close enough.

True, but I still don't see TakaraTomy do that to every single figure.

Neither do I...especially from a small deluxe to a regular size deluxe. but I didn't want to miss out on the convo.

Neither of the figures talked about here have been upsized or downsized. They were all separate molds. They're extremely similar but they're separate molds.

Meaning? That the design was altered?

See, that's where the difference between retool and separate mold enters a grey area. SL Galvatron could very well be downsized from Energon Megatron from the design sketches on, using the same design cues but executing them in two different sizes.
Starscream is a bit harder to properly place, as the differences between the Voyager and the Supreme are quite numerous. It is possible that TakaraTomy went ahead with an earlier version of the design, and that Hasbro refined it for the Supreme.

They don't need to upscale all the others, just Optimus (and Ultra Magnus). Eventhough I already own Optimus .

But that Jazz has an extremely accurate deco, unlike Bizarre Blue Jazz we got from Hasbro.

That, and this is the kind of paintjob I wish they had done with the Sixshot reissue. Second thought - I hope that if they make a Japanese version of that reissue, they use this redeco style. That, and turn the chrome guns a metallic white. (Because then I'd buy it regardless of packaging style and box art.)

As for Prime, I think he might be too shiny. Really though, I'd rather have the overly-shiny Prime with the silver parts instead of the depressingly sucky light gray on the Hasbro one. That said I really don't like Prime's FoC look, so I'll be sticking with WfC Prime. That said I would consider getting FoC Prime if they made a voyager version with a improved transformation (not just an upscale).

The only thing I don't like about the mold is the sculpting of his head. The rest looked pretty nice, down to the TRON tires.

I'm getting to the point where I'm considering skipping all Hasbro releases entirely. With Takara, I always have to wait longer, but they're always so much better. Sure, it means that I have to pull off some ugly Arms Micron ports from their AM figures using pliers, but it works and they end up looking soooo much better (even with stickers) than the stuff that Hasbro has given us.
Hasbro focuses on price, Takara focuses on accuracy. For me as a collector, that makes Takara the clear choice, especially now that I'm not collecting as many lines as I used to (most of my catching up on lines I missed in the past is done now).

They don't actually look half bad. Well done, Takara.
Still a 'no' mind you.

I like the Optimus too and is again better than the Hasbro version.
I am more willing to spend on the Takara versions than the Hasbro versions because they look better and are nicer to look at.Well done Takara !!
