im one of the people who'll buy this (cause its awesome) but have no real knowledge or connection to the character. so what do the true SS fans think? did they nail it (in your eyes)?

It's ok, I'll get yours.
I have little attachment to the animated series character, but I do like the concept, and IDW's MTMTE has given a spin different enough to the character that it can easily face off with Optimus and G2 Lambor on my shelf. And EVA-01.

Thanks for that. I've been checking the big three exporters (AmiAmi, HLJ, and Hobby Search) every day for over a week, but HLJ snuck it up there after I had already checked this morning. Got him and Exhaust, but I still want to see if AmiAmi goes even lower.

The vehicle mode lacks the sleek appearance of previous masterpiece figures (because the original is not really based on an Earthbound mold) and the robot mode fails to fill any big hole in one's collection (unless one does not already have this toy and feels their collection is incomplete without it). It looks like little more than an up-sized version of the Robot Masters release.
With amazing articulation, and all the features(ish) of the original. That'll do for me!

Grimlock was basically the same thing and nobody complained (much)

But star saber was huge so this actually scales best with classics figures by cartoon standards. Thats the reason im buying it. It will go right on my classics shelf. Hexatron was also supposed to be MP scale, but because of his size in tbe comic classics collectors all bought him. Give in to your inner temptations and pre order. I did.

Not to mention that Mkall is missing out on the hands-down best line of Transformers toys quite possibly ever.

I know they're just blown-up, slightly more HD images of the first color images of Star Saber, but my God, does he look stunning! Six months is going to go pretty slowly...

1) Can't hold the sword edge forward in one hand
2) Where's the laser rifle for Saber?

will fill that gap for sure in my honest opinion
Must have!!!

Sharp eye chuckdawg! Yeah, what about the rifle Tomy? No pics of it yet. I hope it won't fall to the same fate as Grimlock's Galaxial launcher.

I'll bet there's some very happy fans over there right now.

I don't get it. Do you mean the fragile, easily break off parts of Megs? I don't think Yuki would have had much say on materials would have been used or if that is the case, then the suits at Tomy must have opted for cheaper materials ( for one after hearing the horror stories on MP-05 fragility never transformed him).
Design wise, given the base alternate mode of Megs, for it's time, that was state of the art. Hopefully a more buff and sturdier version and in scale to MP-10 will be released.
But if true, the 12 day deadline to release such an intricate and complicated fig is amazing.

does anyone think that... japanese TF fans resent us? pretty much everything hastak releases is geared toward us. even when MP SS was announced, and number of our fandom were upset that an obscure(ish) character we never even had over here was getting the MP treatment. anyone think they feel that way about us? and MP1-23?Va'al wrote:It was the result of a fan poll, so you'd hope so!Delta Magnus wrote:I've never seen any of the Japanese-exclusive G1 series (like Zone, Victory, The Headmasters etc) so I don't really have any attachment to the character. I noticed for the first time, in the pic with the guy holding the figure, that it actually has rocking hip articulation. (pun fully intended.)

Not surprising since Gundam was huge at the time and Star Saber was heavily based on the RXYZ, especially in the feet.
Rifle and can hold the sword right YES!
