Takara Tomy took us by surprise when they revealed that a new Masterpiece Hot Rod / Rodimus figure was coming out in 2016 (and first quarter to boot!). While we have had a whole bunch of coloured images we now have the box art revealed as well along with a breakdown of his promotional images (courtesy of fellow Seibertronian Autobot032). He is titled MP 28 Hot Rodimus, enjoy!

I feel a bit disappointed in both hot rod and ironhide. They just don't seem to have that attention to detail like previous masterpiece releases. Hot rods tires and flat long chest is just killing it for me, and it could have been an easy fix. They sacrificed the look of the robot for a gimmick.

It's more the fact that I already preordered Ironhide and I have little interest in Roddy. Also, Shocky and Roddy may come out at the same time so it's more a matter of "for spring" than "for a year".

Also, there's not JUST MP Transformers that I collect. There's the mainline Transformers, some video games, other random toys.

Finally there those things called "food", "rent", "bus fare", and "bills", that kinda get in the way of buying every single plastic crap that come out.

I think they are going for animated accuracy. The G1 toy looked really great, in my opinion. In fact, I thought it was one of the best looking toys in both bot and robot mode of that time. But, the animation model had much smaller tires. The way they drew Hot Rod in the movie still looked very cool, in my estimation, but the tires were always undersized for some reason. I don't know why it looked okay in the animation and not in a toy...

Hey wow, I didnt know Wendy Oldbag had an account on Seibertron :lol:

I loved that discussion right away and totally recomend younger fans to get into the older stuff, as I did, just to see the rich history of this wonderful property.

About Hot Rodimus, I myself will not be getting him either. Unlike Shockwave, I cannot figure out just by pictures if he is worth it. I dont know how the backpack will look or how well the shellforming will go and those screws on his wrists (who is he, Jesus Christ?!) look beyond odd. So I cant afford to bet minimum 60$ on a whim. Instead I will wait for the reviews and then buy it when it gets a hasbro release. There are actually very few MPs left for Hasbro to issue that have no licenses so I dont doubt he will come around in 2017. I can easily wait till then, they are issuing a bunch of stuff in the meantime that I am very excited about. If I only collected MPs though, this would be a totally different situation.

I'm just happy I was able to contribute! TF:TM and More Than Meets the Eye/The Ultimate Doom are the things I rematch the most from G1 or any TF universe. Also, pre-ordered him today, after finally pre-ordering Ironhide and Shockwave last night.

Side note: I really need to get a hold of MPs Wheeljack, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, and Ultra Magnus as I honestly don't know why I haven't yet!!

The point is that Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus were already Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus before they possessed the Matrix. They were already big and strong, so they didn't need an upgrade like Hot Rod.

OP & UM were built big and strong. They were built to be leaders/commanders. Hot Rod was built as one of the Autobot cars (like Sideswipe, Prowl, etc) so he was changed by the Matrix.

Whenever Rodimus Prime loses the Matrix he shrinks down to Hot Rod. When OP & UP have it or not, they remain the same. Because that's who they "truly" are.

A portion of the fandom suspects that the "something" Alpha Trion said he had that could help Orion when Alpha Trion rebuilt him was the Matrix. Whether Alpha Trion used the Matrix as an element in Prime's reconstruction or if he gave Optimus the Matrix after the reconstruction was finished is the debatable part.

Alpha never said anything about "something", I posed the quote above, he said that he would attempt rebuild him entirely, and so he did. Then he did the same with Ariel. It was very straight forward. The cartoon never established otherwise.

You are correct that he didn't mention a "something" (thank you for the dialogue transcript, btw), but he did mention having "a way" to rebuild them, which many G1 fans interpreted as involving the Matrix, and that Optimus was the first successful attempt.

I'm not saying that it is true that Alpha Trion used the Matrix to turn Orion into Optimus, rather I am only explaining what Sto originally meant when he said that the idea of the Matrix not turning Orion into Optimus was "debatable", as some fans do think this regardless of whether this idea is correct or not.

The difference in meanings matter enough to Sto (he's not gonna relent, so please work with me here). "Created" suggests an original construction from an origin point. "Rebuilt"/"reconstruction" suggest a second or later construction from a previous construction. Orion-to-Optimus by Alpha Trion was the latter.

However, to mesh both views together into a statement of equality, it is fair to say that Alpha Trion "created" Optimus (as you say) by "rebuilding" Orion (as Sto says). :PEACE:

Maybe, I just got the feeling that hasbro didn't really care about releasing them, but I have no idea what the list of mp figures is after 10, but I feel like the only ones they've released are the datsun figures and soundwave...

Yeah, now that you mention that, they were released later than soundwave, and a few months apart from each other, right? So that's fair; I just remember a slew of dumb car repaints being on the bulk of that list, and didn't know which was which.
