Courtesy of Japanese site Game Watch, we get a nice look at some further images of the exclusive figure prototype Mega Drive Megatron, and a video showing off the transformation! Also from the site, via Google Translate and some tweaking, is a report of the sessions that have taken place so far, with a somewhat detailed description of the various launches, including Mega Drive Megatron itself. Check them all out below!

Takara Tomy Arts business meeting, a possible variant "Mega Drive Megatron" appeared! And items that can make pudding without breaking the shell, unique products jostling and "motivation button".

Held April 16, 17

Venue: Sumidasangyoukaikan

April 16, Takara Tomy Arts held a "Takara Tomy Arts, summer business meetings" in Tokyo and Sumidasangyoukaikan. Session lasting until the 17th. This event is intended for the media and distributors, and will exhibit and introduce products Takara Tomy Arts being released between June and September.

It's Takara Tomy Arts deploying a large number of unique items such as "funny series" eat fun food, but greatly push the "purine whole Turn Turn funny egg" that can make a pudding without breaking the shell of the egg this time was doing. We would like to introduce that attempts to challenge that this is a variety in the high spirits of 3 year old children and "motivation button", also a unique feature of the show.

And attention of the biggest business meeting of this time, was introduced before the exhibition of the possible sample variation that variations in Megatron Transformers from mega drive of "Mega Drive Megatron". Since I was allowed to take in a movie where to variations specifically, I'd like a look.

Variant system is finally revealed as "Mega Drive Megatron"

The simple design is reminiscent of the first generation Megatron "Mega Drive Megatron". Toward the launch, that was brush up on modeling of the face part.

"Mega Drive Megatron" is an item that is first exhibited in the 2014 Winter Wonder Festival, has been a great deal of attention. Very cool concept, such as puns early type of Mega Drive was released in 1988, that variations in "Megatron" is the villain of the Transformers, and of realizing in retro somewhere "dark". It's work. At present, price and release date are unconfirmed.

During the business meetings, a possible variant model of mega drive Megatron is exhibited, it was possible to make variations in practice. I seen that the compact body of early type mega drive to expand, continue to transform into robotic waist is drawn. For the prototype, and it will select the material thinking and durability future of this Exhibit.

You have to check the details of the mega drive Megatron again this time, cartridge or are stuck neatly into the chest, three button controller of early type are also included, initial type mega and become wing is 2 Tsuniwaka the deformity at the time It is full of feelings that smile would float unintentionally to anyone who is in contemplation drive. A colored soon, I want to see the mega drive Megatron characters of gold "16-BIT" is shining.

Looks pretty cool, but very floppy. Hopefully the final version will be much tighter.

And that guy didn't transform the feet.

It's a prototype, the final version will probably be much tighter. It might even use different joints.

I kinda wish it was actually the same size as a real Mega Drive, but then it would probably cost a fortune. If they do make a full-sized version (especially if it's actually capable of playing Mega Drive games, which given how simple the Mega Drive is, could be possible) then I'll buy it immediately.

Have we seen the controller turn into anything besides two halves of a controller yet? I was hoping it'd be Laserbeak, but that doesn't seem too likely from the vid.

Kotaku reports that TakaraTomy is producing an upcoming figure of Optimus, based on the original 1990's Sony PSX Playstation. Much like Mega Drive Megatron, this figure will look as authentic as possible in alt mode and a nice nod to the old skool gamers and collectors.

It will see release in early 2015, as far we currently know.

Currently, there is only an artist rendering, but this 19cm Optimus Prime will transform into the first generation PlayStation. It is slated to be announced in early 2015, so it will be a while until there are more details.

Mega Drive Megatron is due to see release in September, so we only have to wait a little while longer for him, while the wait for Optimus will be a bit longer, but he seems to be worth the wait.

And now, the images:

Hmm, As much of a fan of the original Playstation I am, I don't think I'm necessarily interested in it coming alive. (hehe) Besides, I still have my original PS1 in a relatively good condition.

Oh man, yeah, Super FamiConvoy would have made so much more sense, having been the main competitor to the Mega Drive and a fun play on the two names. Such a pity. :-(

So is this going to be a series of figures then? I may get this if I decide to pull the trigger on the megadrive Megatron. I like how they cross over my main two areas of collecting.

What's next I wonder...A game gear/game boy Soundwave with cartridge minions.

Also maybe Nintendo didn't want to license their console designs to Takara.

I'd imagine that this might be the extent of the line, if not maybe one more figure or two, since these kinds of lines really don't last that long. Take the various Label lines or the Cap Bots, for example.

I'd get this and the Megatron... if they actually functioned as gaming devices. I was saddened to learn that they do not play the games. Seeing as how portable game systems have shrunk over the years, they should be able to get a working system in the chests of those things.

My bet is refusal >:oP

What would of been amusing is if prime was the snes and Jetfire (or any other preferred prime power up) was the PS, then you could combine them to create the original snes CD drive that Sony was working on that led to the creation of the PlayStation :lol:

...

I'll get my coat...

Funny, but I thought Soundwave / Soundblaster and Blaster / Twincast would have been a better choice for a game system. Smeg, even Jazz and/or Bumblebee would have been a better choice. I just don't see Optimus Prime as having that kind fun side: As a basketball hoop, maybe, but that's a stretch.

And that's why Super Fami-Convoy would have made so much more sense. But yeah, I bet JelZe was right, Nintendo probably wanted way too much money to make it worth Takara's time. So, just like Sony did back when they ditched Nintendo and made the first PlayStation, so too did Takara. I guess it is fitting after all...

Looks pretty sweet.

As for him being able to play games, remember that a lot of space in a PS1 is taken up by the CD drive- they're big, bulky things (and you can't miniaturize them because, well, they have to fit CDs) and they're fragile too. Plus, the PS1 was a lot more complicated than, say, the Mega Drive. If you managed to cram the necessary components to make this play games, the robot mode would suck. people complain about intrusive gimmicks on figures, and, well...this would be the ultimate intrusive gimmick!

Raspberry Pi + ePSXe + a SDHC card to store ISOs = done. Whether you can find a spot on the toy to cram the motherboard in there (3.37″ x 2.21″ x 0.83″) and make holes for the HDMI connection is another matter, but complexity and size constraints are not an issue in this day and age. Hell, they crammed one in a Game Boy Pocket and it worked great.

Love this concept of both Prime and Megatron transforming into old school video game consoles. I was expecting Optimus to transform into a Super Nintendo (or Super Famicom outside of the US), since that was a competitor to the Sega Genesis back in the early to mid 90s, still the PS1 mode is a nice choice. Wonder if Prime will get a replica PlayStation disk, just like Megatron did with the Sonic 1 cartridge.
