Courtesy directly of Takara Tomy on Twitter, we have an image from their Transformers booth over at Tokyo Comic Con 2017, taking place for the rest of the weekend and showing a fair few new figures and merchandise related to Transformers - and the various crossovers currently being explored.

In this post, we focus on the Star Wars Powered By Transformer Crossover Series, and both the full revealed Tie Advanced X1 Darth Vader, and what will be the second figure in the crossover series, the Millennium Falcon. The figure, with its still unknown robot mode (but probably either Chewbacca or Han Solo - or both, as a previous iteration of this figure attempted) is expected some point in 2018, and includes mini-figures of both its Wookie and scoundrel pilots. Check it out below!

I think the proportions of the new Millennium Falcon look better than the first version, but the Han Solo and Chewwbacca figurines look out of scale next to it? Hopefully, tje set can split into two mechs (and no more GPS Chewie!)

We have known for a little while that Takara was going to release a new transforming Millenium Falcon in their own Star Wars Powered by Transformers line. However, we had no clue what the robot mode(s) would be... until now.

Thanks to our usual Weibo source, it turns out that just as with the original concept, this Millenium Falcon splits into Han and Chewbacca. Also, similar to the origial release, they are very kibble heavy, featuring a lot of parts from the alt mode. A picture of the robot modes from Hasbro's attempt many years back can be seen at the end for comparison. Well, at least we know Chewbacca won't suffer from gold plastic syndrome this time (since that material is no longer being used).

Let us know what you think and if indeed Takara's take on this concept is better than Hasbro's.

It certainly is better, the head on the Hasbro han solo is absolutely hideous.

The Millennium Falcon pllooks better here since it's sleeker than the original, but I honestly prefer the robot modes of the original version; they look more humanoud and less restricted by their poseability.

Out of curiosity, why is it sad? Is it just because you don't like the idea? While the actual idea isn't the best, I love the engineeringthat goes into these as there isn't a lot of space to play around with on the iconic vehicle designs of star wars

Is it just me or is the head on the new Solo look more like an actual Transformer now?

What I mean it looks like the standard Transformer look and not a robot Harrison Ford.

(My wording is probably weird here but I'm not sure how else to describe it.)

I agree it is sad.. :-( :-( :-(

Those who dont learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

The concept is just dumb. It was dumb then and its still dumb now. How cool would it have been if they just focused on the vehicles to homage Star Wars and let the robot modes homage actual Transformers characters? Then they would be true "Transformers" crossovers, rather than just on the sole basis that they can transform. Right now they're no more "Transformers" than a Gobot. The one thing they are not is Transformers crossovers.

Imagine tie fighter seekers, vader tie fighter megatron, x wing fighter optimus, cloud speeder bumblebee, milenium falcon ironhide, slave 1 soundwave, death star unicron, so many possibilities. But instead they give us robots wearing circus masks....twice.

It was only yesterday that we got the Full Reveal of the Star Wars powered by Transformers Millenium Falcon that transforms into Han Solo and Chewbacca, and now today we have new pre-orders for the new figure.

These pre-orders come to us from various sponsor sites, and lists the combining figure at a $134.99 price point, around the same price as a Takara Masterpiece medium sized figure such as Inferno and movie Ironhide. You can find the pre-orders listed below for the sites that currently have the pre-order. The combiner is expected to arrive in June of this year.

This new figure is based on a similarly designed Millenium Falcon figure from 2006 that split apart to transform into Han Solo and Chewbacca, with Han forming the front half and Chewie the rear. That figure suffered from Gold Plastic Syndrome, which caused Chewie to fall apart. This new figure uses a different transformation scheme while still having the individual robots form the same halves of the Falcon.

Check out the pre-orders below. Are you ready for this new and exciting figure? Do you want a Battle Wookie and Han Solo? Will you be picking them up? Let us know in the comments section below!

I got the original Hasbro version as a Christmas gift back in like 2006. It wasn't the type of thing I would have asked for, but it was kind of a neat surprise. I came to like the figures, and I had them displayed for a while. They ended up in storage until Force Awakens when I decided to try my luck transforming and displaying them again. Got them into Falcon mode, but I finally had my first brush with GPS as a Transformers fan, sadly.

That said, Takara did an AMAZING job on these! Han's face was the biggest problem with the original figures, so it's awesome to see they've given him something much cooler. Chewie's original face always looked okay, but this, too, is better! I may have to snag these...

Your story sounds a lot like mine. It wasn't something I asked for, but I got it and it was really cool. and I think they did awesome with this seeing as how it has a different Transformation scheme and they look cooler here.

I think you should snag him up. It seems like a pretty awesome thing, and it's one of those rarer curiosity things.

I want to like these, as it seems Takara has done a brilliant job on the engineering, but the faces and decos look like "mechs cozplaying as their pilots", rather than mechs that represent their pilots. It's a bit like having Gundams looking just like their pilots, complete with faction uniform, hairstyle, etc.

I'd rather have this:

Than this:

(Btw, has anyone noticed that it's now easier to upload pics here? Previously, the limit seemed pretty low, but I've been able to upload with aplomb. Cheers, Seibertron!)

At these Takara prices, the target audience is definitely adult transformers collectors who happen to like star wars. I dont see any hardcore stsr wars collectors choosing these over Black Series figures and vehicles. So with that being said, why not make them true crossovers that pay homage to both franchises ? The could have given them Transformers characters heads instead. Im sure most people would rather have that then generic robots wearing star wars masks like cosplay. Maybe a 3rd party can make new heads for these things....but that chewbacca figure cant be saved...

Although none of us here know, of course, it's been postulated that TF characters cannot be "in" the SW universe and vice versa for brand/copyright reasons. Possibly, Disney/Lucasfilm doesn't want to dilute the brand or confuse the official stories by having another franchise so intimately connecting to it. Using the TF "play pattern" is one thing, but having a story and characters crossing over isn't wanted by the rights holders.

Personally, I think that's barmy, if true. If they made more "mech" style heads for these toys, plus did repainted figs as TF versions (and if they weren't so ridiculously overpriced), then I'd buy one of each version.

In fact, they could have just made these all Headmasters, and used star wars characters turn into the heads, and also allowed us to add existing heads to customise our own.

These are definitely more for star wars fans than transformers fans since they're strictly Star Wars characters and not the cross overs you keep complaining about. And Star Wars collector's would choose these over the black series vehicles simply because there are barely any black series vehicles and they're massive compared to these.

And considering the first round of SW TF figures were pre-Disney I think someone just really likes the idea of robot versions of the SW cast.

I don't see a problem with these existing, if you don't like, don't buy. Now, as for what people think this line should be, people would still complain. Another point, all of the crossover toylines have done worked this way so far, why should this be different? Plus thus approach seems to work for some people, look at D-Max ;-)

Brilliant! I wonder how apologists for the lack of TFs can get out of THAT evidence! There's also the Heroclicks style have, where there's a picture of (Luke Skywalker?) fighting Galaxy Force Optimus Prime.

That's true, but have the previous SW and Marvel crossover TFs been successful? In defense, the previous SW crossover figures featured pretty awful engineering, so that could be a reason moreso than the sculpts if they weren't popular.

I'm worried that, no matter how good these are, people will be saving/spending money on all the other TFs coming out around the same time in Japan. I think Emerjie listed the boatload of other TFs coming out in April, and my bank account is going to be emptier than a haemophiliac in a room full of needless and vampires...

Anyways. Personally, I love Star Wars, and the vehicles are some of the coolest parts of it. It's been some while since I've bought a SW figure or vehicle, so for me if the robot is REALLY disappointing then I'll just leave them in vehicle mode. I wouldn't mind having a bunch of Star Wars ships around.

I'm an extremely tolerant TF fan, but I'll be the first to agree that the previous attempt of this crossover was a long trip to disapointmentsville. The Idea was sound but the execution was bad. Really bad. I didn't even mind the idea of the Organic type heads, it's just that the sculpts were atrocious.
There were two that I really liked and still have on display or still play with occasionally. Death Star Vader and a little Legends size Obi Wan. I find it really entertaining that Kenobi is off on some side quest in my Unicron Trilogy shelf. "For goodness sake! What ridiculous mission has the Counsel sent me on this time?"

But these look better to me, and I like the idea, so I'd be willing to give them a chance. The bot modes look more interesting then the old run, and these head sculpts, even though I'd like to see bigger pics, look way better to me. I trust Takara just a little more when it comes to head sculpts.

I'm fine with them turning into Star Wars characters, but I like X's idea too. It would be dope to have a Falcon that turned into Prime!

So from these tiny pictures, does Han appear to be wearing a helmet? Chewie certainly has some kind of crown or headband.

Edit: HI JAK!!!! I'm here!!!

Although Anode's headsculpt is one of two things I actually like about her, the other is her vehicle mode, so this is not a deal breaker for me if I decide to get it.

Isn't that like using a mallet to crack open an egg, though? These Takara SWTFs are a tad pricey. Wouldn't it be better to get a really nice SW vehicle and then a TF? Failing that, if you're into Japanese style SW things, have you seen these?

This right here. I'm not trying to be a hater, but I do not see anything in that sculpt that makes me think Han Solo.

A) He looks like he is wearing a helmet on his head
B) The chest transformation kinda pokes out like boobs
C) He has Windblade-esque high heeled boots
D) He is very clearly wearing blue booty shorts

Was this supposed to be Rey when they were engineering it? Or is this some Rule 63 female Han Solo?

Just like the Hasbro line, the robot modes don't work at all.

Also, Star Wars isn't cool anymore, Disney totally destroyed Star Wars with the new trilogy. Instead of writing a good story they just copied the original trilogy & made everything bigger. Bigger Death Star, bigger AT-AT's, bigger TIE Fighters, bigger Star Destroyers. And lame characters that nobody cares about. Star Wars is a joke now. :(

First of all opinions, if Star Wars wasn't cool it would never have gotten as big as it has nor would it continue to be. What is a good story? Are you suggesting that a story has to be original to be good because uh hey, no matter what Star Wars movie was made it would never met your expectations.

The prequels went original and looked how they were received, there was literally nothing else they could have been done for the Force Awakens since it had to go safe because of history before hand, if you think Last Jedi was like Empire Strikes back besides a couple things that probably means you have not seen that movie in awhile.

Lame characters my arse, Kylo Ren is a better written villain then Darth Vader and the others ever were in their own movies. Again opinions Star Wars has always been a good entertaining joke, anyone who takes either Transformers or Star Wars seriously is set up to disappoint and permanently ruin the franchise for themselves.

Deadput, once again I need to remind you that you don't need to refute every damn opinion. Especially when it's not even on topic.

YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER BY NOW.

Also, Star Wars isn't cool anymore, Disney totally destroyed Star Wars with the new trilogy. Instead of writing a good story they just copied the original trilogy & made everything bigger. What would work for robot modes though? These aren't tf characters so they need to fit in with the style of the universe while also keeping to the restrictions on the vehicles.

@PrimalxConvoy getting nice sw vehicles is tricky at certain scales, these are a lot smaller and not that much bigger than the old action fleet vehicles (which were amazing)

Very little. Characters like Vader, and Griveous work because their heads are "robotic" looking. Storm Troopers and Fett would work as well, except the colours of the head tended to not blend with the body. And I think that's where the biggest fail happens, slapping a big green head on a grey body. Sure, the head looks like Yoda, but it also looks like someone has chopped his head off and put it on a robotic body.

So maybe if the heads blended with the rest of the body, they might look a bit better.

I read that Disney shops and parks sell detailed SW vehicles for about 20 Dollars? Might be worth a look.

Surprisingly, Google was bereft of good mech and robot versions of Star Wars characters for me. Here's what I could find.

And @Burn, I agree. That's why they need to make mechs that homage the character, rather than look like the character. Some of the colours of the clothes, skin, can etc would be fine, but things like weapons, motifs painted in the side, etc should be used, too.

Two words.

Human Alliance.

The vehicle can transform and it can have a head that fits in, and you also have it's "human" counterpart.

That would be fun too. But then it's bordering on being a "true" crossover.

Great idea! I really wish MP had merged with Binaltech, and then the film Human Alliance toys would have continued that trend. Then, we could have had GI-Joe/Action Force, MASK toys, etc in that scale, too (in their own respective toy lines). Even if any of these were sold every now and then, as exclusives, it would eventually add up to a coincidental full range of toys that shared play styles.

Failing they, in sure Titanmaster style figures could do a similar thing. Plus, if they released Star Wars vehicles like the old Micro Machines/Galoob line, and MASK/GI-Joe figures/vehicles too, they're could be some great base-building, cross-play opportunities too.

Oh well...

Well the pilot figures for these do look action fleet sized, it's a shame the micro machines that hasbro brought out for force awakens weren't as good as the old ones.
