Looks like there are lots of fans wanting that Exosuit Spike from the Studio Series 86 line. Fans have been able to get him on Amazon.com since the week-end but the availability has been sporadic. One moment it's available and the other it isn't. But we still wanted to let you know and give you the link so you can check it when you want and have it at your side.
Also, we have a review from fellow Seibertronian Chuckdawg in case you wanted to get a good idea at what you were getting.

Sorry, forgot expressing one's opinion on this place was taboo. Call it an old age brain fart, I'll try to keep such thoughts to myself.

Yup, lots on interest in him, fir now. While he's been out in a few parts if the world for months, he is still very new in the US and that's all that's needed for him to be popular/wanted.

When he was announced I was interested, but once I saw him in store, at the price point he was at, I simply couldn't justify a toy that essentially lays down*. Had it been a few dollars cheaper? Not a problem. But I suspect there will be a few people who end up thinking like I do when they finally see him in hand.

I don't get the appeal either, but we all have our preferences. I think for some it's great that the character is finally represented, for others like myself he would be a pick up mainly to complete the cast of the animated movie, and there are others like you who just don't care.Burn wrote:... people want Spike? meh. I have the Spike that come with the OG MP Bee, the one with SS86 Slug/Slag, and the one that came with the small BWBB 2-pack. Might as well complete the set by getting the core one, if I ever find it in store.
I wonder if Core Spike is compatible with dinobots riding?

I'm sure he is, he's a bit bigger and actually somewhat articulated.-Kanrabat- wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:I don't get the appeal either, but we all have our preferences. And that reminds me, we did get a "Spike" with Slag. So now I have 0 need for the core class figure.

It's not that I don't care. I've actually been getting a couple of SS86 figures here and there and think they're bloody great figures, my biggest gripe with Spike is the price. His transformation, which while is cartoon accurate, is basically just locking the arms in and laying down.

No no, that’s “Daniel,” and he’s terrible, as a character, and a barely articulated action figure.

Oh I see. I was thinking Spike because Daniel was with Ultra Magnus in the movie for the most part, not with the Dinobots. But then again, neither was Spike. I have yet to open my SS86 Slag, I'm trying to see if I can hold out for all 5, and open them at once.Wolfman Jake wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:And that reminds me, we did get a "Spike" with Slag. Same here, I care nothing for the character and that toy barely transforms. Easy pass at full price. If they were to go on clearance, even then would only be a maybe for me.

Total with tax was 12.71, so 11.99 I believe. Whether that's 'too much' or not, is in the eye of the beholder.

But I'm already feeling buyer's remorse about it. I like the idea of this figure, but in the grand scheme, it's not one that I REALLY want... So even on sale I don't see it being worth it.
I'm not saying no yet... I'll hold on to it for at least a little while.
I'm anxious to see Core class Rumble!!

I dunno, man. Spike has been around since the beginning. I'd like an actual scaled-ish non exosuit figure of him and the other Witwickys at some point (although teh fandum will say "boo!")

That's a fair point... I'm sure there are probably more people out there that would be in favor of that as well then some may think.
And this core figure is fine for what it is... I know I could customize at least the eyes, and probably a mouth. I just feel like that shouldn't need to be done. Being a human character I think that should've just been a given. And yeah, that's a big step in the production process, especially to get it done well, but still.
I'm still really on the fence... Maybe that will change (either way) once I have him in hand.
But I think your idea about non-suited figures is very legit, and those could be very worth-while pack-in's...
Scaled correctly, that's when I could totally let go of an expectation of facial features.
Neck, shoulder, hip, and waist swivels would be nice. If possible, elbow and knee joints...
With good articulation, I'm sure a ton of people would like those as accessories.
*Edit
I just watched Chuck's review... I'm more on board now with this figure now.
Again for what it is... It's fine. And maybe even good. I appreciate the amount of articulation.
I've also thought that this is a situation that would bug the sh!t out of me if I were to change my mind later, and have to spend $15-$20 on the aftermarket to get.
I still say it's a stretch for any Core class figure to be $12 before tax...
But I can live with having spent $9.23.

I'm going to create one in the Collection Forum... At some point...
But figured for now I could share these here.
I finished my Sharkticon Pit diorama:
Pretty happy with how this turned out.
Here's the scene as of right now... This was actually my second idea for arranging the figures, but I may stick with it.
Not saying this is better than what it is, but obviously photos flatten space; I think this looks quite a bit more dynamic in person, and it's supposed to look somewhat cramped (which was part of the reason for curving that back wall), but there really is more space between the Sharticons than what this photo shows.
More on topic,
I won't be surprised if I end up keeping SS86 Spike (once he arrives)... My plan is to use him as Daniel in my Planet of Junk diorama.
And yeah, thanks for the review, Chuck!!

This scene was created with acrylic paint on heavy, multi-media paper. The panel details were just a matter of a ball point pen and a ruler (and some time)... Then those panels were cut down, and glued onto black cardstock paper.
The black cardstock are 12x12 sheets, which were adhered to one large piece of white cardstock.
So the back wall and floor are each 3 layers of thick paper, making them nice and sturdy. The wall on the right is the same, only instead of cardstock, I put the black paper onto a piece of foam core... That was the first section I finished (when I thought a foam core backing was going to be necessary for stability).
Here's the foam core frame I initially thought I'd use for the back wall piece (as well as the finished floor section):
Even though this framing was unneeded, it was the very first part I made (weeks ago, because it provided the width dimension of the back wall), so at least it didn't slow me down right towards the end.
I'll post a photo that shows the other figure arrangement I'm considering sooner than later. But that's not set-up yet, and I'm at work right now.
Also, @AcademyofDrX-- have you shared your thoughts yet about the Lego OP? If you have, I'll go look for your post(s) in that thread. Curious to know your thoughts since you're so into Lego.

AcademyofDrX wrote:I posted a little bit in the main thread, I should probably elaborate at some point. Short version: it's very very cool, it's going to sell like mad, I'm planning to get as soon as I can. It seems to have a fair amount in common with the Voltron set, conceptually, and I have and love that too. (Currently Voltron is packed up in a tote, but Optimus will become a permanent collection centerpiece on par with Unicron.)
I think I'd get it, but that price-- although fair imo-- is a bit steep for what I'm looking to spend on any toy... That's my one hesitation right now. Well, and OP isn't one of my favorite characters.
But I'm still kicking myself for not getting that Voltron set... So who knows.
Back to SS86, are you getting Spike?

AcademyofDrX wrote:Yeah, Spike is great for what he is, but the alt-mode is super weak. It looked dumb in the movie though too, so what can you do? I bought two of the Core class Bumblebee and I still haven't decided whether this or those will be my default versions, I'll have to see what they look like as a group. I'm not rigid on scale, but I generally feel like the humans need to be quite small. I bought Diaclone pilot packs for that reason, though also to use with Unicron.
I hear ya with all of that...
And especially that humans should be really small in comparison to the robots.
But I'm not overly strict about scale either (although I appreciate when it works out accurately!).
Just hoping this Spike is small enough compared to Hot Rod, Arcee, etc.
