For now, it has appeared in comic book stores, like Fantastic Collectibles in North Carolina, and, more nationally, those who preordered from Entertainment Earth are receiving their shipments. Matthewrex on our boards has shared his experiecne getting this toy as well as some images. We also have more images from the Play with Photography Toy Blog.
matthewrex wrote:It seems the Entertainment Earth "TRA GEN STUDIO SERIES VOYAGER HERO" was indeed SS38 Optimus Prime (Bumblebee). My delivery got here today and I'm blown away! Really impressive figure. Haven't opened Rampage yet, but Optimus looks great. His left leg is a little loose but I put a little nail topcoat in the joint and it helped.
Included a box shot. Considering this was just solicited for "April 1"... it sure got here quite early! April fools?
_________
Just got done transforming him to alt mode and back. Definitely a bit more complicated than the WFC: Siege Optimus. I actually got a bit stuck and had to retrace my steps, etc. Some of the pieces (namely in the legs) don't snap as snugly/securely as I'd prefer, but overall I'm still really impressed. I think his Alt mode actually looks really great, and manages to be larger than Siege Optimus - ditto for his robot mode.
I think this is a great mix of live action / G1 Prime. Up until this I thought Siege Prime might have been my favorite in a while - but something about this Bumblebee version is really doing it for me!

He's a bit of an anomaly as far as movie Primes go, but looks like a fun and interesting figure. I don't really go for the standard movie Prime look so he'll be replacing EMOP as my movie prime and will be spending some time next to SS VDub Bee in a spotlight display.ZeroWolf wrote:I really didn't care about dragging G1 into the bee movie...but...that Optimus looks the business. Eh, did he really emote though? He looks a little concerned when Soundwave shows up, but otherwise not much. I think the first 3 TF movies have a bit more emotion, namely him getting upset about Sentinel turning on them.
Something about this Prime is just a bit off to me, but I'm glad everyone else is enjoying him. I might still get him, but I'm not blown away like everyone seems to be.

This is how he should have looked like in the first five films IMO.
HasTak used the AoE truck though, instead of the more accurate model from "Bumblebee", but still good.
I like that the figure also kind of works as a CHUG.

I'm really just hoping we'll see leader class DOTM Prime, anything else is a bonus.
I would love a reveal for a new Camaro Bee too, but considering we've got 2 new Bumblebees just hitting shelves I think it'll be a little while before we get one.
Edit: On a side note, I'm really hoping DOTM Prime has the gold/orange on the front of the truck.

Agreed 1000% . Part of the stoic mystique of the character was to give him the solid " poker face" . I love the eyes.. Prime always had a concerned or compassionate look to the eyes. It was subtle but carefully and thoughtfully designed. When his eyes did emote in G1, it was for a reason.
I just wrote on another thread how everything that is animated CGI or otherwise emote too much. From Shrek, to Yoda to the new Transformers cartoon. It , to me, is cringeworthy. People don't look like that, except people that work at Applebees. Smirks, Eye rolls, or one eyebrow raised seem to be the popular and go-to expressions for animators because they underestimate the viewer's intelligence. Dumb it down and really show those emotions so people can "SEE" what they are feeling. No room for subtle nuances in this biz.
I think animation and facial expressions should be relegated to strictly outlandish humor like Ren and Stimpy which utilized the approach to parody animation as well.
Oh.. and again.. I like your thought! haha

Why are you watching cartoons in the first place then? Better question why are you watching movies with any cgi or animation in them?
Because when's the last time people looked like animations?
Nobody wants deadpan expressionless faces, it will never be realistic because it's cgi or drawn hence not real, why should animators put big limitations on what they can make with their animation tools or conform to realism when cartoons once again are not made to be realistic.
It's not for dumbing down it's for expression and even then for the most part that's for kids who for the most part really won't get nuances (seriously ask any kid if they even care or even think about that kind of thing)
And just my opinion but giving Optimus a mouth is one of the best things the franchise has done, say whatever about how it looks but Prime isn't some "mysterious" character, and absolute stoic Optimus like in TFP is garbage (actually TFP in general had awful characters because just about everyone was stoic and expressionless from Megatron to Shockwave to Bumblebee to Bulkhead, Soundwave was the only one they made it semi-work because he was intentionally silent but then again Soundwave did little else besides be mysterious so he really isn't a good character either) , Optimus is a good character when he actually has emotions like in TFA or even the original cartoon.

It's ugly. It was ugly on screen too. Just because it's screen accurate doesn't make it a good figure. His legs (especially his feet) look mutilated, and that lower torso looks like Megatron grabbed a handful of his grille and ripped it out, along with some guts. I do like the boxy look, but his chest just looks too big for the rest of him. He's misproportioned. It looks like they used an unfinished rendering of the figure in the movie because they were running behind schedule in post-production.Wolfman Jake wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Good looking truck mode. Funny how I both agree and disagree with you. All those things you said about the design like the legs and grill, I noticed before, but never bothered me. The actual toy probably does look a little more blocky compared to the movie, but that doesn't bother me yet. Of course, I have to wait until I actually see him to be sure, otherwise I'd get Siege Prime.
All in all, I really enjoy this new look. Maybe it's not the design we should have had first, but rather a nice change on what we're used to( I respect your opinion btw )

I agree his proportions are a little funny. Something about his lower legs look really skinny. But funny compared to what? Traditional G1 Prime? A Human? He's a robot. His proportions can be whatever they want, really.
This figure is a tough one for me. He falls into that category of, how many Primes do I really want/need, but he looks super cool and fun.
This one will have to be left to impulse.

I thought that they got Prime's old school look perfect with the Evasion Mode in AoE. That was the design they should have started with, even though I understand the choice for the Peterbilt. I was mainly comparing this version of Prime to the Evasion Mode version, and that's why I think it came up short in robot mode.Nathaniel Prime wrote:I really enjoy this new look. 1) This new Bumblebee Movie Prime is, in my opinion, the best version of Prime we have gotten yet in the live action movie lines. I little small, but that is life with Hasbro's greed now days.
2) Studio Series Jetfire is amazing. Seriously, I love this figure. Transforming him isn't a hassle, it makes sense, and it is fun. If you find him, get him.
okay, I lied, three things...
3) I hate all versions of movie Megatron. Its a design I've never cared for in any version of him. That said, when I found Jetfire at Target the other day, SS DotM Megatron was obviously there as well. Holding it in hand, I have to say, it looks much, much better than any of the pictures or reviews have shown him to be. I hate this design, but if I find it on sale, I'll be getting it. It does that much justice to the film character.

That's some serious praise, I'll have to think on that, as I've been on the fence about the figure as I feel the dotm did so many unique things and this one has it's fair share of faults, but now I think I'll have to grab him if I see it at target now

I love the Bumblebee movie so much! Epic year for me, Bumblebee, Aquaman and Transformers Siege (still bettering and I thought Titans Return was unimprovable)
This Optimus, he's so pretty. I need him in my life.
And pls Hasbro, repaint the slag out of him.
he's so pretty.

The only downside I can see is that he has so much beautiful molded detail that's begging for paint, and I suck at painting. Bad. I once painted a birdhouse for my mom, and it was condemned by the ASPCA *and* the Fair Housing Commission. I'm bad at it!

Out of curiosity, why do you think it's perfect? Even though it looks better in the video than it did in pictures, I still think the lower torso and the legs are atrocious.-Kanrabat- wrote:This is one of the very few voyager that I won't hesitate to pay the full 46$CAN when I see it at retail.

The lower torso is great because instead of just doing a cheat truck grill, it is it's own bot details showing robotic abs that is remicent of a grill without pretending to be. It's debatable whennever one like it or not but for me, I like it.
However, I don't see how the legs are "atrocious". They acheive the perfect G1 look while storing all the truck bits in a very efficient way.

Well he's not wearing the typical go-go space boots. I remember complaints about skinny thighs in another thread. The blue boot bit doesn't seem to go as high and from the knee down is the same thickness as the top of the leg. I think they look fine, but I can see why people would have a problem with them not looking like we're accustomed to.-Kanrabat- wrote:However, I don't see how the legs are "atrocious". Oh, so that's why I find those legs perfectly fine. They are more human proportioned than usual. A TF trope that is a nessecity but I don't really like are the huge lower legs with micro thighs. This Optimus have more "normal" looking legs. Furthermore I found it a genius move to see the truck bits integrate like the gaz canissers in the thighs.

But it still fundamentally looks like G1 Prime, even if "unfinished", right? It matches the silhouette, lines, shapes, and broad details of the original G1 design, even if finer details are different, while Evasion Mode Optimus takes more liberties with those elements. Again, I'm not saying you can't think Evasion Mode Optimus is a better live-action interpretation of the G1 design, but Bee Optimus is at least a more literal and direct translation of it.

I don't see this Optimus as a "Movie Prime" at all either. Just a "more realistic" Generations Optimus. He'll stand proud with my Classic, TR "Action Master", Cybertronian WFC, and other miscellaneous Optimusses.

I'm willing to concede that point, because I can see that that's what the intention was. But the figure is not finished, if they were going for G1 Prime. G1 Prime had a grille and legs and feet that were bulkier than the skeleton this figure is standing on. It's like his entire lower half was left undone. Ironically, the Siege voyager got it right in reverse. Near perfect robot mode, garbage truck mode. But that's going off topic.Jeddostotle7 wrote:I'm not saying you can't think Evasion Mode Optimus is a better live-action interpretation of the G1 design, but Bee Optimus is at least a more literal and direct translation of it.

It's literally the design from the movie which was a Cybertronian form, he so happens to transform into the truck from the end of the movie.
He wouldn't have the grill or any other main truck parts.

It's literally the design from the movie which was a Cybertronian form, he so happens to transform into the truck from the end of the movie.
He wouldn't have the grill or any other main truck parts.
I think he knows where the design is from, I think he just doesn't like it which is his own opinion. We don't all have to like something afterall

I agree with Rodimus here.
See, the legs on this Prime needed some bulk. He just looks a bit too skinny, like Animated Rodimus, except not a banging awesome. It doesn't work for a gritty realistic Prime.
I also agree the stomach area looks like a black hole. The other movie primes had abs and stuff, this one sort of just has a black blot there
