It's Drift time, all the time over at RyallTime, the blog of IDW Publishing's Editor-In-Chief. We get a sneak peek at Transformers: Drift, the new mini-series focusing on the sword swinging, and faction changing Transformer. Check out the preview below, and what Mr.Ryall has to say about the series.
Since Amazon.com has a listing up for the TRANSFORMERS: DRIFT TPB, it's not exactly a big secret that we're going to be doing a miniseries based around the character. The listing also details the creators, writer Shane McCarthy and artist Alex Milne (along with colorist Josh Perez), but doesn't show any cover image. So let's show a little bit here--the cover for issue 1 by Milne and Perez, and page one of issue 1 as well. The 4-issue series will be shipping bi-weekly in August and September.

Because someone touched themselves at night.
Not to offend you Hacker.
And again a series which will only be cool due to it's art.
I'm guessing that's Drift as in his original Decepticon colours? If so I hope his toy gets repainted in those colours as I would buy that repaint.

I agree, I do not think much of his character as it is written, but a sword wielding con, maybe as Bludgeon's apprentice? That may work. For once I will say, Bring on the repaint!

I wish IDW could or would fine a high-quality colorist for Alex Milne, everytime I see his artwok in color I get eye strain.

True but I think that will never happen, I think it has to do with Milne having a very "mangaish" artstyle after all that's where most of his inspiration comes from. And from experience manga only really looks good in colour if it's pastel or water colours, techni coloured high gloss manga always looks kinda off.
Maybe they should just let Milne colour the stuff himself with his markers, after all he is the "markerguru".

Who cares, they're G2 so they will all die, twice to make Drift look more cool.

No, it doesn't.

Also since All Hail Megatron issue 6 I've only been buying the movieverse comics. Those are probably better than anything else since then. And less pain on my wallet

I'm really looking forward to seeing this - hopefully it'll take the storyline into brand new territory.

Before anybody jumps in my grill about this maybe you better take a good look around at the attitudes of the others on this site and ask yourselves why I've been so negative lately and on so little. What started out as a great place to commune with other collectors and fans has turned into a breeding ground for conflict, hate and derision. The real pisser is that all of you have turned the Drift character into your poster-child for all of it to. Every time I see this character now all I can think about is how many of you people on this site were absolute total pricks to a small handfull of us who found something to latch onto. Way to treat your fellow Transformer fans and collectors. Real show of community spirit. You should be proud of yourselves.

I never understood the hate and still don't. I'll take Drift 100 times out of a 100 over Botanica.

On a sidenote, doesn't that picture of the black bot look like he's stepping on Hotrod's/Rodimus's head?

Then allow me to inform you. Drift was given heaps of attention during AHM, even to the point of getting a Spotlight (over literally hundreds of better candidates) despite doing very little in the story to deserve it. It's roughly the equivalent of a fanfic writer putting his own original character in a story above all the others.
Wait a minute. That's not the equivalent. That's the actual fact.

I'd be VERY interested to see where these so-called posters who hae been "complete and total ***holes" to you.
Drop me a PM if you're able to back this statement up but I've seen none of this behaviour that you're referring to.

Yeah, I can understand disliking the character, but frankly I don't see how he's offensive enough to warrant hate. Characters like Skids and Mudflap from the movie I could perhaps understand.
On a sidenote, doesn't that picture of the black bot look like he's stepping on Hotrod's/Rodimus's head?
Hehe, I believe it's just a generic bot. At least I hope so. Hot Rod's got a fair beating in the IDWverse already

You know what? No matter what anyone does or says, no matter how much a story or a character is loved or hated, there will ALWAYS be someone who is never going to be satisfied.
I've been saying I like Drift all along - no one has really beat me up over it. Of coarse, no one really talks to me, either....
Ah, the love....

I've been very vocal in my support of both Drift and All Hail Megatron ask Dead Metal and Darth Bombshell about it.
Personally I honestly could care less if people like or hate me because I enjoyed them. I would rather be hated for being honest, than for being loved as a liar. I'm not going to lie and say "AHM sucks" to be popular, when in fact I loved it, because that's not the way I am.
If I think something sucks or rocks then I tell people that it sucks or rocks and give my opinions as to why I think it sucks or rocks.
If I think Transformers: Drift sucks believe me people here will know it, if I think it rocks, they will know it too. If my opinion is not popular then so be it. I'm not here to be in a popularity contest.
My only complaint was that the fact that IDW can't seem to find to colorist to help Miline's artwork without giving me eye strain. Now maybe this Perez might be the first colorist that can do that I don't know. Just being shown a cover and one page isn't enough for me to make a judgement on it.

Ah the hour long discussions T-Max and I had about why Drift sucks and why not, I think we settled it by saying discussing it for so long sucks and that we had better things to do then argue about something as trivial as Drift. And damn where those discussions heated and full of hate and patriotism.
You think you loved Drift or AHM? Pah that's nothing for what T-May feels for them, believe me.
Sure I hate Drift and the material he sprung from but I hate Shane McCarthy even more, god damn you McCarthy!
Lets stop this stupid dispute OK? Seriously This is getting stupid and it bores me, I will always hate the way McCarthy ruined my second favourite comic series right after Spider-Man and you will always love him for exactly that, but fact is idw doesn't give a toss about it all and will reboot it all once again in 2 years max. But as long as that won't be financed with any of my money I just won't care.
So stay on topic and that is this new comic series, the next to bring up something else will get hurt.

I actually like those preview pages. The colours seem nice and vibrant. I will admit it can be difficult to discern some of Alex' work but it does make it interesting because you see something else each time you re-read it. He and James Raiz are 2 of my favourite TF artists.
While I'm more a fan of Dreamwave and Marvel, now and again IDW do get somethings right. I like Drift and also what they did with Arcee, which in a comic bsed on a toyline was rather risky.
I'm also hoping those G2 bots survive. They and the Actionmasters do get slagged a lot in the IDW books. Shame because I'm sure they would be more interesting than the likes of Optimus, Bumblebee, Springer, Kup or Wheeljack.
Looking forward to this.

Your not the only one who like's Drift. I'm looking forward to the figure (which I think is confirmed for Generations). I just answer your respectful disliking of Wheeljack, my favorite figure Kup, and Jetfire with respectful disagreement.

On a second note, as soon as i saw the title, i was thinking "Fast and Furious Meets Transformers". That would be interesting.
