We have a lot of news regarding the Transformers Siege line. CMD store, a collectables shop in Canada, has 3 new listings which each give us new confirmations:

- There is a preorder for a voyager War for Cybertron Siege Apeface figure. No image and while it has a ridiculous price ($60 CAD), CMD store is known for it's very high markups. The product is said to be out in December.

- There is a preorder for leader class Astrotrain. Also out in December.

- There is a preorder for the wave 4 deluxe figures from Siege which confirm that Barricade is the wavemate for Mirage and Impactor. There is no image of the actual toy provided. It will be out in October.

Finally, we have in hand images of Starscream and Soundwave. They can all be found at the snakas blog but we included some below. The big takeaway is that a boombox/tape deck/tape recorder - like mode for Soundwave is possible. It is unknown if this was intentional or not form Hasbro.

Starscream's Decepticon insignia looks weird but it looks like a Seeker type Decepticon now. 8-)

ON THE OTHER SIDE APEFACE, UGH FINALLY, ITS BEEN 4 YEARS. :x :CON:

That robot mode for Starscream is sexy AF!

For me it's enough to make up for any short comings in his alt mode.
Which for me personally, isn't that bad either.

for those keeping track, almost all the wishes from this top 5 list are coming true:

And I mean, they should, those were the glaring omissions in the generations line.

All we need is Deathsaurus and Snapgradon and my list will be fullfilled

Astrotrain being Leader Class instead of Commander class feels like a missed opportunity. Will be interesting to see how they work in the armor gimmick if at all.

Although... what if LC Siege Astrotrain is a retool of VC TR Astrotrain with transforming armor? Sounds pointless maybe, but they could turn that around and recolor it as Leader Class Sentinel Prime with the Apex Armor from Megatron: Origin.

Edit: 35th Anniversary line already has Soundblaster, right? Probably means we won't get a 'clean' version of Soundwave with red optics. Also, after all these years, why has Soundwave never gotten a G1 Marvel inspired deco?

I knew that's why.

I really like both of these. Soundwave looks awesome, and Starscream is great. I thought Starscream would have a kibble backpack, but it actually cleans up quite nicely. Although, I have seen pictures of those thrusters on top, and that they can rotate to sit against his back, and even that doesn't look kibbly at all.

Soundwave and Starscream are both gonna be awesome, and I hope to get them both.

I hope that Astrotrain and Snapdragons are confirmed, because that excites me

something about Starscream looks like he's kinda melted or made of cake or something. I dunno how to explain it. They all have something like that about them but it just seems more noticable on him with all that white and red looking kinda tasty... Not sure why he's even got that earth jet cockpit in bot mode either but whatever

Soundwave's 'boombox' mode looks pretty much like any robot that can fold it's legs up like that. It's not quite up finding out the rather awesome bat-mode of RotF Mindwipe or anything.

I just wanna see how tall Springer is and comparisons with other figures now he's confirmed a voyager and not the deluxe i was kinda hoping for.

It looks like Soundwave's arms were pulled off to achieve that "boombox" mode - they have no joint that would allow them to fold back and leave room for the legs.

Soundwave is giving some serious side-eye.

Getting back to the newly leaked Apeface listing and a possible Snapdragon to follow, how do we think Hasbro is handling the Horrorcons this time around? Will they be completely compatible with the Titans Return system of play? If so, it's hard to imagine the Headmaster units would retain their original G1 gimmick of forming both the robot mode head and the beast mode head. I assume that if TR backwards compatibility is important, Spasma and Krunk will only form the robot mode heads. Which route would you rather they take, or are there other ideas on how to either compromise on these gimmicks or alternatively to have it all?

Personally, I feel like it might not be backwards compatible to Titans Return, but maybe back to Thrilling 30 Brainstorm. Just for the head to look normal sized. But, considering this line is about returning to the original gimmicks, I'd be surprised if they weren't pulling double duty, and backwards compatible

I doubt they will ever go back to the T30 BS headmaster size (one off size figure) and be much more likely to stick with TR titanmasters (Jetfire is already compatible). My guess is maybe the beast modes heads would have a helmet type gimmick like the TR leaders did. So the new head/titan masters would form the robot head and plug into a beast helmet or mask type scenario.

Yeah, since we've got an "easter egg" for Titan and Prime Masters being able to ride in Jetfire's cockpit, I would assume Hasbro would stay with that standard for any additional Headmaster gimmick characters for the foreseeable future. That said, I like the idea of the beast mode heads being a helmet or mask that pops out and covers the Titan Master head or face, akin to some of the Voyager and Leader Class figures in the Titans Return line. Let's just hope Hasbro has learned from the mistake that is Voyager Galvatron's "mask," though.
Re: Siege News Roundup: Astrotrain Confirmed, Voyager Apeface Listing, Soundwave's Boombox Mode and More (2011642)
Posted by Skritz on February 20th, 2019 @ 3:50pm CST
The sad thing with Galvatron is that he clearly had the space for having a full-blown helmet, like the Leader class figures did. So in his case he's a legitimate screw up on Hasbro's part.

As for Siege Horrocons, if they do happen, I wouldn't be too bothered if they didn't have the Titan Master interaction. However, in a line which is all about staying true to gimmicks (well mostly) and with Hasbro having all the groundwork laid out already for Headmasters via the Titan/Prime Master engineering it would be silly if any future Headmaster leftover was not compatible. I'm aware the horrocons are weird for headmasters but there are plenty of ways to have them have the beast head without compromising the Titan Master interaction, include simply making the beast head a kibble part. Of course its also plausible that the Horrorcons have a headmaster gimmick which is stand-alone for the sake of G1 accuracy.

As long as they happen and as long as they got headmaster integration I'll gladly add them to my collection to complete the Decepticon Headmasters.

I forget, what size class is the rumored Apeface? And more importantly, what is the preferred/desired size class?

For me I'd rather deluxe so they can chill with the other monster type bots from TR and PotP.

Arms being folded on the back makes me think if that's how the arms disappear in tape deck mode. Then again, where would those boosters go? :-?

BTW, love the boosters look in lamp mode. Makes me wonder if we can access them in robot mode for mega cannons or something :x

Yeah, I think you're right about the original size of the toys. So do "we" have a conservatist view point on their proper size as bigger than the TR headmasters (proper)?

I really don't have any strong feelings one way or the other, the Headmaster Horrorcons would be neat to see at either scale. I just think that many fans got their hopes up with TR seeing as how all the voyagers sported triple changer function that was well suited to them. But IIRC the originals were pretty much the same size and price point as all the other headmasters.

If they were deluxe however, this amazing combination would be more feasible ;)

I mean as an easter egg mode, its kinda funny, but I think a lot may have been sacrificed in order to do that, as I think if there is any line where he could be a satellite, aerial drone, or stealth bomber, this would be it. And, I mean, think about it, being a cybertronian satellite would actually make a lot of sense :-?

I mean they can call his alt mode a satellite, just like they can say that strika's a female, but that doesn't mean anything if they don't give any visual cues to indicate it (though strika had a v.a. to support that, but my point still stands)

Just spitballing here, but I wonder if these Horrorcons might be legacy holdovers? How long does a toy linger in a design process? I ask, because we have heard a rumor of the Horrorcons for a while. I thibk tvat was the great big leak thst gave us the Combiners and really most of of Prime Wars, but anyway most of the leak that said "Horrorcons" ended up being true. Could these be those Horrorcons, just now findidng their way out of the design stage and maybe tweaked to by Titans Return compatible?

I could be way off base, but it will be interesting to see if the design asthetic for these matches older figures.

I'm more surprised by the fact that there is the chance for a Wave 4 of voyagers or even a wave 5. Unless the Horrorcons are supposed to be exclusives or even part of the next line, or Siege is lasting past 4 waves

It's possible Apeface and Snapdragon were originally conceived as being part of Titans Return, but plans were changed around the time the decision was made to shorten subline imprints to one year only, like with Power of the Primes, instead of approximately 18 months like with Combiner Wars and Titans Return. In that case, I could see it being easy for Hasbro to finally put those molds out at the tail end of SIEGE, with TR compatibility intact, adding a bit of "battle damage" paint to the original designs to make them fit the "SIEGE" motif. It's also entirely possible that these are designs that began with fans asking "WTF?" when we didn't get Apeface and Snapdragon as triple changing Voyager Class figures in Titans Return.

Thinking about it now, Titans Return probably could have lasted two full years if Hasbro had so chosen. There was enough "unused" content left over to pull it off. We know already that some Titan Masters were scrapped. A few more waves of Legends figures might have given us most of the Throttlebots. The Deluxe Class could have included the Autobot Targetmasters to parallel the Decepticon Targetmasters we did get. Some later exclusives like Arcee, Grotusque, and Repugnus would have seen regular retail release instead. The Voyagers could have been filled out with the remaining triple changers (Springer, Sandstorm, Apeface, and Snapdragon) to give us a complete set of G1 triple changers reimagined with Headmaster compatibility. The sheer number of Leader Class figures that were pushed out was almost unprecedented, particularly when thinking about the number of unique and heavily retooled molds. That size class could have originally been planned to span two years of shelf life instead of just one with just the addition of a few easy repaints like Soundwave into Soundblaster or Blaster into Twincast. Then, there's the mysterious case of why we only got two box sets when the theme seemed to indicate four would have been better. Maybe a two year deal was the original idea before it was decided to keep refreshing the Generations brand yearly to keep up retailer interest. In other words, it might not be Power of the Primes that was cut short abruptly so much as it was Titans Return.

I'm eager to get my paws on SIEGE Springer. Looking at pictures of him, that looks like a very Titan Master friendly clear blue cockpit on both of his alt modes. I can almost see how his transformation would have worked without a fully integrated (non-removable) head. :-?

More than likely Apeface (and presumably Snapdragon) are the Wave 4 offerings. Springer and Thundercracker are only Wave 3, after all. We know we're getting four waves of Deluxe figures. Having 8 Voyagers across four waves still fits within Hasbro's 12-month per subline plan.

It definitely seems like they had to take Soundwave's arms off for that tape deck mode. Luckily I'm one of very few who like his cargo ship mode.

This is what excites me most about this as well, even more so than more new Cons. When Siege was going to be the same length as PotP (which I thought we heard for sure at some point, but maybe not?), I expected the last wave to be just as anticlimactic, but I guess Wave 4 of Studio Series doing well with more than just 1 figure made them change their minds? Either way, yay more Cons, and yay finishing incomplete group updates.

Not just more Decepticons, but Decepticons which are from the era of The Rebirth. In a line where most stuff is '84+The Movie.

Keep in mind, though, that the Studio Series is meant to span multiple years. Right now, we know at least that it will be going through 2020, given that we've now seen Hasbro and Takara Tomy's road-map for the components to Devastator between 2019 and 2020. It doesn't make sense to have a "throw away" wave at the end of the year if the subline will be continuing as is into the next.

Pretty sure Studio Series is basically a second Generations line at this point. >:oP

Studio Series is something I can see being more like Marvel Legends or Star Wars: The Black Series, in that it just continues indefinitely with no big overarching theme, while the main Generations line continues with its constant finite sublines.

I mean there's nothing wrong with that, the movies have been a thing for over a decade, and most of the original figures didn't really hold up when they came out, so the studio series - giving the movie characters the love and great figures they definitely needed - seems way more necessary than another line of seesunwun of geewun >:oP
