Shout! Factory has announced the individual DVD release of Transformers Masterforce according to tvshowsondvd. This is great news for those who are buying the Transformers: Japanese Collection seperately.
Addtionally, Amazon has a preorder up already. According to the listing, Masterforce will be available on May 1.
Here is the intro for Tansformers Masterforce. This is not taken from the Shout! Factory release.

Worse yet, it looks like they're controlling those robots instead of them being sentient beings from the planet Cybertron.

I should really stop taking everyone's knowledge of Masterforce for granted.

BEST TF HUMANS EVER!!!!!mattwhite924 wrote:Good lord there's a lot of humans in that intro. Squishy, unappealing humans.
They're not "piloting" the robots. They ARE the robots.DrLegend wrote:Worse yet, it looks like they're controlling those robots instead of them being sentient beings from the planet Cybertron.
This show is great! Absolutely fantastic! Arguably the very best of any and all Japanese Transformers series. It is, without a doubt, my third favorite Transformers series of all.
Here's the second intro:
However, all is not so wonderful with this release. Shout! Factory and/or Hasbro has gone and tried to Americanize things in this. Like, they gave everyone whose toy wasn't redecoed from their American toy the names of the American characters who they share toy molds with in the subtitles. And a bunch of stupid fanservicey TF terms were thrown into the subs for no good reason.

Man do I love that intro, the animation's so crisp it's like, woah! Wish they would have done a less mellow theme song than just sticking to the original, cause Toshiya Igarashi can do so much more than that, Super Ginrai's theme and the Machine Robo Battlehackers theme song are proof of this .

Masterforce rocks. No doubt. The characters, storyline and animation/music are all great. The "master" concepts are well implemented, too. I much prefer their Godmasters to our Powermasters.
The only down side? The last few episodes slow to a crawl. Either they ran out of money, or couldn't wrap up the storyline properly. But those last episodes have noticeably poorer animation and the storyline goes nowhere fast. Still, the previous forty or so are wonderful.

I raised an eybrow at the Pretender concept at first. Then, I just went along with the ride. I also love the transtectors controlled by headmasters humans.
The animation never feel cheap and is consistent throughout the whole series. The story is good and the characters are interesting.
This give me the desire to watch it again.
I would buy Masterforce is it went for a North American release with proper subtitles or even (let's dream a little) a perfect and professional dubs with the Japanese names intact.
Also, GOD GINRAI!!!

Tis a shame that only the UK and Australia (and fansubbers) could get this. Shout! Factory tampered with the subtitle script for their releases.-Kanrabat- wrote:I would buy Masterforce is it went for a North American release with proper subtitles

A LONG-AWAITED CLASSIC TRANSFORMERS TITLE AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN N. AMERICA! This is essentially Season 2 of the Japanese series, where Season 1 was Headmasters. Following their victory over the DESTRONS (aka Decepticons) at the end of Headmasters, the CYBERTRONS (aka Autobots) depart Earth, leaving behind only a small group to protect the planet from any future menace. But when the powerful DESTRONS return to an unsuspecting planet, the CYBERTRONS must come out of hiding to defend their human friends once again - only this time they'll be unable to do it on their own. 42 episodes on 5 DVDs plus an art gallery. Original Japanese audio with all-new (and improved!) English subtitles.

But Metrodome's and Madman's DVD covers look cooler.
"Ethnocentric English subtitles" is more like it!cannonfodder4000 wrote:El Duque wrote:with all-new (and improved!) English subtitles.

And, what on Earth? They used the logo for The Headmasters, instead of Chōjin Masterforce, at the bottom.
The Headmasters:

Yes, indeed! Maybe they figure we can't read Japanese, so won't care what it says?
Most likely, it's just a placeholder logo until they get the art monkeys to scribble a new Masterforce one. Unless somebody has reeeeeeeally messed up, and it makes it onto the final!!

I've seen pics of the final Masterforce and Victory sets from the Complete Collection 3-pack. The Headmasters logo is there on both as well.AdamPrime wrote:Most likely, it's just a placeholder logo until they get the art monkeys to scribble a new Masterforce one. They had to fix some problems with the DVDs. That's why they were delayed. Now that the complete box set has been made, they can get on with Victory individually.leviebaby wrote:not to sound funny we wont get victory until next fabuary , so the dvds are released 8 months apart while other dvds from diff compans are 1 month on a 2oth date no affence i cant wait that long for victory and beast wars 2nd and neo
However, no one's said anything about Beast Wars II and Neo. BWNeo isn't even on DVD in Japan yet.
