Here is a nice little surprise coming out of summer Wonder Festival 2013 where a gigantic Scorponok prototype is on display. These pictures come to us via the amiami facebook page. Not a whole lot is known about this figure at this time but it appears to be a non transforming licensed product made by Sentinel standing as tall as Fort Max. Check out the pictures of this behemoth below.

"GIGANTIC ACTION!"...MASTER?

Those big wastes of space non-transforming Prime figures may have started a halfway decent trend, but I'd still rather own a Mega/Black-Zarak knock-off than an official mega-mega-mega-mega-mega-SCF Scorpinok, even if he is big enough to face Fort Max eye-to-eye, and does look awesome.

Oddly proportioned for a non-transforming figure.

That is... quite cool. I'd be interested in getting this guy if the price is right. He would definitely be a really nice centerpiece. I wouldn't mind if he was a model, it would probably help lower the price from what I'm assuming is going to be a lot.

Non Transforming Transformers suck
They shouldn't be branded Transformers, but Non-Transforming Toys, if you ask me.

though it looks awesome, I think its more of a statue than a toy?

a shame we don't get mon infos on this

Wow. That thing looks awesome. A bit of a shame it doesn't transform, but even so, if he's decently poseable he'll be great. I love those proportions- looks like Scorponok if he were done by Gainax.

In any case, G1 Scorponok had some pretty lame alt modes anyway (Scorpion mode was basically a big black with some spindly limbs attached), and if not transforming gives him decent poseability and dynamic proportions, I'm in (or would if I had the budget). Who knows, maybe he's to scale with the Revoltech Transformers?

This image of Sentinel's Gigantic Action Scorponok comes to us via the @YamadaxTakahiro twitter feed. Also, what is the first question that usually comes up when a new Scorponok hits the scene? That's right, when will we get Black Zarak? You can see the Black Zarak version standing next to Scorponok on display at Wonder Festival.

Best Scorponok EVER.........now only if it transformed. I don't understand why you wouldn't engineer that. This thing is so close to the G1 figure and it's the simplest of transformations.
They're also asking WAAAY too much money for this thing.

The downside to making a BlackZarak version of this is that, though this Scorponok is big enough to fight Fort Max, this BlackZarak is now too big to fight God Ginrai.

Not in every fight between God Ginrai and BlackZarak. Certainly not in the final episode battle, which was arguably their most famous fight.

That is just completely pointless.

The first question that comes to my mind isn't about Black Zarak. But rather, does this Scorponok transform? Well...

Does it? :-?

But I can see that question has already been answered so I won't be wasting my money on either of these statues.

To be fair, it's not only enormous but also highly articulated and very "anime" proportioned. Getting that thing to transform whilst also remaining fully articulated and keeping those sweet, sweet proportions would be nigh-on impossible (at least without driving the price up super high). Also there might be some licensing thing that stops them making a transforming version.

Regardless, that thing is beautiful. I want one!

Impossible? All you have to do to transform Scorponok is extend the bug legs out. Put his arms up over his head, fold his legs back on themselves at the knee and then plug in the stinger. Done.
There is actually only one thing that "transforms" on G1 Scorp and that's the lower kegs and the stinger. It's soooo easy and simple that it could be easily pulled off with this "super articulated" figure.

I agree that it's a totally super awesome looking Scorponok though. I desperately want it but won't pay that price for it and I would always harbor resentment towards it because it doesn't transform when it so easily could be possible if following the G1 design. Which they slavishly followed with this action figure.

I was seriously considering getting this Scorponok back when I first saw the prototype/test shot, but now that there are at least 2 transforming 3rd party options upcoming, I'll be getting one or both of them instead. Sorry Takara, I love you, but this isn't quite good enough. Maybe if the model were more extreme I could excuse the lack of alt modes, but it isn't. They mainly just stripped off the bits necessary for its alt modes (bug legs and stinger/tail) and called it a day.

Yeah, that. One of the big problems with getting it to transform, I think, is the extremely nice, stylized animesque proportions- almost all the components are tapered, exaggerated or deformed in such a way that it looks awesome (like Dreamwave except not awful) but that it would make folding the thing up rather difficult- the thing wouldn't fit flush together without lots of folding panels, ugly hinges and obvious breaks in the sculpt (or worse, partsforming). It's intended to be a really nice, faithful depiction of his robot mode as it appeared in the cartoon/anime, rather than an update on the original toy. A bit like the Trasformers Revoltechs and the like.

Also, AFAIK, Sentinel doesn't really do transforming figures.

The problem is with Takara Tomy, they aren't about to let another company make an actual Transformer figure, even if they are nice enough to properly buy a license. Sure, they can make all the transforming pens, ball caps, and candy toys they want, but no making figures better than they can. Closest we've come is that transforming exo suit by CM's Company, but they went under.

I'd love to have this Scorponok, but US$500 is way to much for me.

Yeah. I see where your coming from. That pesky city mode. Forgot all about it to be honest.
I wonder why it's so expensive though. Sure it's a specialized and highly stylized figure but it doesn't transform. I also know it's a massive figure from a 3rd party.....MASSSIVE. It's unprecedented in those regards but i can't help but think it would be better for sales at a 300 dollar price tag instead of the rumored 5 bills asking price. I don't know if that number has actually been confirmed yet.

Thanks to AmiAmi we have official images of the Sentinel Megazarak (Scorponok)and Black Zarak that we just saw at the Wonder Festival here. Standing at about two feet tall, these "Gigantic Action" non-transforming figures are scaled with the Generation 1 Fortress Maximus toy. Megazarak is due to be released in late October of this year and black Zarak will be released in late November, both come with a pricetag of 48,600 yen. We've mirrored the images below for your viewing pleasures and remember keep your optics tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest in news and updates, plus the best galleries around!

Im still trying to get why they couldnt have made this a transforming mold ? Hollowout the legs so they fold in, flip the arms up, rotate the cannons, tail flips out from behind, remove the head, and a scorpion head attaches in its place. How hard could it be ? I can understand no city mode, but no scorpion mode is plain stupid.

Its stuff like this that spawned the existance of 3rd parties in the first place. I could easily see an up and coming company buy one just to reverse mold it and retool it to transform...

And they'll sell it like 200 bucks less and ill buy one.

There's also the possibility that maybe they just didn't want to make it transform, instead wanting to make a giant articulated action figure, one that's never been done before.

True, but those figures are going to take up alot of real estate in warehouses if they didnt read the fans correctly. BBTS changed their system so you cant tell how many of one item they have in stock. But when you could, I remember a lot of items over $500 they would only keep 10 or less in stock. I dont see the retailers taking risk with this in great numbers. Just my opinion.

BUT.

five hundred bucks? seriously? hes the same size as fort max and generations metroplex, they transform, and cost half that. and im betting when those two 3rd party scorponoks hit the market, these things will be even more redundant.
