We get a great shot of how each product scales with one another, which really showcases John Warden's comments on how scale was a big component of this line. It is fascinating to see the tools Hasbro used for this accomplishment, like the use of using toys we had already gotten and upscaling them in a way that works best (such as Starscream and Ratchet) along with other changes to existing tooling. There are new molds as well, of course, like Optimus, which is not as well received as the rest of the line. It is probably because Hasbro showed us years ago how a voyager scaled toy of the Revenge of the Fallen model was possible at a voyager scale without resorting to fake discolored chest windows and an inaccurate backpack. These images do show him in his best light so far, so you will let us know what you think.
You will also find many images of Leader Blackout, a very long awaited figure. Is he as great as you would have hoped? Is he your most anticipated leader class figure of this line?
Let us know!

Brawl is slated as a Voyager, so he'll be roughly the size of Starscream and Optimus Prime.

Yeah, I know, but it seems like they prioritized bot modes. I, personally, would have preferred it the other way around. I think it’s easier to headcanon differences in robot size than the size of actual vehicles.

not that i'm complaining tho. among all starscream molds, save for the leader hftd mold, that dotm deluxe mold is easily the best. and by scale it up to voyager, they also adds some improvements like in the chest and wrist, which i'm all in. oh, and no annoying cybertronian tattoo. so all in all, he's georgeous.

Update: Ok so it looks like "ITROCKS18" gave me a $5.99 promo discount that wiped out shipping. I'm ok with that!! I hope it works for those looking to grab just one figure.

I'm happy I got a Stinger though...the coolest of the 4 available.

Well, robot, but I do display a few in vehicle mode. Still, I’d like it to be believable. I don’t expect it from any current lines, and the scale here looks nice, but vehicle mode scale has always been intriguing to me.

I think all 6 deluxes are on my buy list. Ratchet has convinced me to get him, Stinger looks pretty good,
Bee, Jazz, and Lockdown are incredible, and Crowbar looks pretty good too! I actually liked the Berserker mold, so this will do good for him to me.
Starscream looks awesome, I will get him in this deco. Prime is a pass. But Brawl and Megatron are definites too.
Blackout looks pretty cool but not as impressed as I was originally, but still really good. And Grimlock is marvelous. He is perfect!!!
This line is killing it, best reveals of the weekend!

I think it's due to something that is accurate, rather than something that is not, regardless of our personal preferences for any one aesthetic.

Didn't the TLK line lower our expectations?

No, they made our expectations HIGHER. Especially because the figures were between 1/3 and 1/2 MORE expensive. I was expecting RotF level of engeneering and premium paint. Very few figures had both.
However, for this Studio Series line it look like the higher price point will be justified. For real this time.

Sure the repaints sucked, but I'm pretty sure the majority of new figures were pretty great, scorn, skweeks, nitro, cogman, megs voyager, megs leader... several (voyager o/p, megs, cogman, etc) were works of tf art in my opinion

Once it's in your hand you have no formal obligation to adhere to its official characterization. You could repurpose it as a brand new dino character, named "Lockjaw" or something.Ironhidensh wrote:While I positively hate the design of movie Grimlock, that new toy us simply amazing in its faithfulness to the screen.

Flat gray...
...or shiny silver?
And it doesn't appear to be a lighting issue as they look different side by side.
They both look finished. I would have said the flat gray was the one we'd be getting, but with metallic paint coating both Jazz and Grimlock it's hard to know for sure.
As for Movie the Best, that line still has its place unless Hasbro pulls out a future wave with improved versions of the likes of Shockwave, Bonecrusher, Hound, Jetfire, or any Optimus Prime since the Studio Series one is kinda crappy looking compared to the three Movie the Best Primes.

Anyways, tried to order the deluxe Bee but it was going to be $28-30, so I'll just wait till April. I have the movie the best Bee hopefully arriving soon to tie me over till then!

That isnt what I meant, nor what Hellscream meant. We were talking about our expectations now that we have seen the TLK line. Toys like Barricade, any Bee, Leader Dragonstorm and so forth. There were some gems, I admit, but when you look at the amount of repaints and crappy QC, I would say this was the worst movie line so far (DOTM being second worse, no toy in this line was as good as that leader Sentinel Prime).

I thought so when I bought that MB 11 and then saw that an MPM Prime was coming out. Turns out, MB 11 is a much better figure than MPM Prime. The quality on that toy is simply astounding and it was even cheaper too. Looking at auctions like these, it is impossible for me to feel bad about that purchase

Takara's official product site has started filling in their Transformers Studio Series listings with images. So far we have images of the robot modes and alt modes for Leaders Grimlock and Blackout along with Voyager Starscream. We also get our best look yet at Scorponok. As with all takara images, these are not renders but images of the actual toys. However, it seems the colours are not final (or the lighting is off) since their Grimlock appears to lack the green and be more grey instead. Wouldn't be the first time with Takara though.
Also, there seems to be some mistransformation going on with Grimlock looking more gappy than ever before. We also get the best sense of Grimlock's transformation. Thee pictures show us that one of his shoulders is made up of a fake t-res head that is stored upside down near his lower back, with the t-rex teeth doubling as dorsal spikes.

I don't know what you mean here. I loved Barricade and Wave 3 Bee. Never got Dragonstorm cos they were too expensive and I've missed out on the super cheap price reduction at B&M (sold all out) but yeah Barry is cool and W3 Bee is my fave Deluxe Bee toy ever.
What colour is Grimlock actually then? He seems to differ in pics. And yeah one of the t-rex shots definitely has them forgotten to turn the chest piece upwards but never mind. I really wanna see his back and see how that fake t-rex head goes in and if it blends it nicely (it looks fine from the sides) or if his t-rex back is ruined like his PotP counterpart.
