We have seen the Hasbro SDCC 2017 display, had a revealing breakfast, assisted the panel and now it's time to see the official product images. These are 3D renders, so the exact colouring is not always the same as it will look in toy form. It is also not obvious what is painted, what is stickered and what is coloured plastic so just keep that in mind. These particular images are all for the Power of the Primes line and feature:

Starscream
Jazz
Rodimus Prime
Beachcomber
Dreadwing
Pime Master Liege Maximo

Let us know which of these toys you are looking most forward to!

Two Adverts for RP, and none for poor Darkwing ;). Also I thought it was strange changing his name to "Blackwing" (considering it seems they want to be PC and remove any trace of that color from any of their TF names like Black Skyshadow, Black Convoy RiD Scourge etc...) But then I guess, they had to change the name due to a certain superhero duck Disney probably still has name rights to...

The Voyagers' gimmick is that that Prime Masters connect to the Voyagers' arms in robot mode.

I'm certain Jazz has 100% Combiner limb compatibility.
All he's missing is the Hand-foot-gun - you can even see the 5mm port hole in his left ankle.

Rodimus is a must-own. Love Skullgrin/Liege Maximo. Like Beachcomber a lot, but I really want him in G2 colors.

So what I'm seeing is that every Voyager is going to have ridiculously big boxing gloves. I sure hope not but if that's the case, I probably won't get many voyagers.

He does come with one, it becomes chest armour that the prime master can plug into.

They may connect differently, as was hinted in the panel.

Personally guys, I really dislike this Starscream. I am worried as to wha the other voygers will look like.

I just realized something about this new Jazz mold. He doesn't have the door wings. That actually makes his silhouette a lot more G1 animation accurate! While the "Reveal the Shield/Transformers: United" release of Jazz is clearly a superior figure, it does have the door wings, which are perfectly G1 toy accurate, but not G1 cartoon animation model accurate. That distinction does make a big difference for some fans. I usually do sway much more towards cartoon accuracy, but the door wings on my United Jazz don't really bother me.

People have been begging for a decent Voyager Starscream since Unicron Trilogy and I don't really consider this a success - from what I can see of it so far it has just as many niggles as the Leader had for me.

It's fine if you look at it in a Unicron Trilogy context as a Gimmick Kids line Voyager - But it's not really floating my boat as a Default Voyager Starscream - i'd even go so far to say that the South American one (which I do own) is a more pleasing looking toy and even Cloud Starscream isn't that much worse at pulling of the Starscream with a gimmick idea while still evoking Starscream.

Maybe the playpattern will raise him a couple of points - and I expect the Skywarp repaint will look pretty nice.

I suppose it is broadly consistent with the Legends and Leader class ones - just a bit more greebly looking.

This new Starscream is definitely the biggest downer of the reveals today. It's just so bad. Be careful what you wish for, right? :(

I'm also a bit unhappy with how big of a backpack Leader Rodimus Prime has, but there is some room to hope that it's either 1) mistransformed, 2) looks better in hand (the camera does add 20 lbs.), and/or 3) will be fun enough that the faults can be overlooked.

Yes I think they connect in another way on Starscream - I was just saying that the hands can be alternative hands for the toys we already have - so if you want a big ol' claw on Bruticus you can totally do that.

I also see that being touted as a bonus feature on any additional combiners. - I think Hungrrr would be great to have so perhaps they can sell him on his own and not in a gift set.

Also how about this for an alternative way to do Predaking you make a leader body that is the "Combined mode" with a lion in it then all the limbs are normal Deluxes - you can add claws and things if you want to make it even bigger perhaps the leader is some sort of Dragon or jet to provide the combined mode super mode wings - and also to tie to the Predaking Name sake of a dragon so you have a deluxe lion that brainmaster Starsaber like combines with dragon/jet to make the super mode torso.

With some cleverness the same mould with some tweaks could also be used to make Leo Prime / Victory Leo and be added to Starsaber.

-----

Oh and howabout breaking the rules a bit and making a Pretender shell of Death Cobra and then making the inner titan be Overlord's other head.

-------

Any images of the chest connector for Jazz yet ?

I have an high feeling that this Starscream will be a combiner torso.
I did a rought sketch, showing where the combiner ports are, and how they transform.
My idea is that Starscream will have a transformation, for the combiner torso, similar to CW Silverbolts, where the robot arms become the legs of the combiner, and the combiner shoulders are on the legs of the robot mode.
I still have to figure out how Starscream transforms in the main body, but I suppose it will require the folding of the wings, that feature an hinge in their mid section that wouldn't have any pourpose either in the robot mode nor the vehicle mode.

What ticks me off is they konw full well what we want and are going about it in just such an odd way.

John warden started out by delivering a Leader Jetfire, Voyagers Roadbuster and Whirl and Legends Skrapnel. All that makes sense. He totally gets it.

Then in Combiner Wars we start getting some odd scales like this seperate Leader Scale for Megs and the Seekers.

Come Titans Return and we get more of that odd Leader Scale (which is now fully integrated into the line and not apart) with Blaster being as tall as PMOP. ApeFace? Titanmaster!
:HEADHURTS:

Plus we get different scales for the monsterbots. Things arent adding up.

They know we want all these toys and characters, but clearly not in those wonky sizes.

Now in this line we get the 13 Primes. HOLY FUCK! but they are just done as avatars in the smallest scale possible. And inside Pretender shells that are also really small.

But hey at least we finally get a Voyager Starscream. But too bad he has the oddest proportions I have ever seen.

it just looks like they are all over the place now and cant settle on an aesthetic, all while being heralded by the same team!

Rodimus, Beachcomber, Jazz and the Powermaster Decepticons look great -- but man, Voyager Starscream disappoints me on so many levels. If only he had a bigger head and smaller arms... I don't know how they considered a design with those proportions acceptable :-(

Also not sure about "Liege Maximo". It's a pretty cool way to replace the Titan Master class, but I hope to see the same sort of intelligent and fun design the Titan Master class had than just a dude with moving arms that opens.

But man those Deluxes. Jazz is being picked right the heck up since Barber made me love him, and I'm interested in the multiple combining features of Darkwing and Dreadwind. Not priorities by any means but it should be fun. And I'm gonna bet anything that Jazz is a pretool for a Powermaster Autobot somewhere down the line - maybe a proper rendition of a certain Lost Light captain? :P

Beachcomber's cute, and while I can't get Leader classes unless they appeal to me on a huge level due to budget, I can at least respect and be impressed by the engineering going on in that Rodimus. Very, very cool. All in all, Screamer aside, a very solid first showing :)

Wow, I'm so much unimpressed by all this.

The gimmick looks unfun and useless contrary to titan returns.

"the not-head can become the matric inside the torso". What's the point ?

Are they keeping some announcements/reveal for later which will change how boring I see the thing ?

To be honest, I loved the CW line, its what brought me back after 10 years of being out, and TR has been really great also, but I fully agree the size inconsistencies are quite an annoyance. Plus you get things like a TM Brawn & Legends Class Brawn in the same line???--I mean both toys on their own are pretty cool, but again the lack of consistency is really a head scratcher for sure.

They seem to have ditched the crummy stickers (hopefully) but I will actually be a wretch and now complain that Starscream could loose the cutsey Destron numbering and the MP homaging 'No step' deco as they are both a lot less sexy than an extra white stripe would have been.

Also isn't Starscream suppose to be handsome.? I might call this Chunky but it's not elegant in anyway.

--------

I wonder if they will make a Nova Prime like body for one of the leader class something similar to Rodimus only with the big old wings and then the cab-robot functionality.

I do think they torsos may be swappable too (at least in super robot mode) - sort of like how that idea works in Webdiver.

Wow.

Am I idealizing my memories of Titan return launch so much ? or the begining of this line really looks catastrophic ?

- useless gimmick : Titan masters had a role : heads. Not things to store uselessly in a torso like here.

- 4 years old repaints

and now this backpacked Rodimus..

I still have hopes that the terrible look of Starcream is justified by a combiner torso, but it'll just bring us 4 years back, the contrary to fresh/new. It'll save the figure only, not the announcement/reveal of the line.

That is because the arms and the legs are the Rodimus part and all that other stuff is just a folded up Hotrod toy stuck in the gap.

Oh and if you must use clip on wheels Hasbro do try to hide them better than that. (it reminds me way to much of random gimmick toys in the RID line).

From a certain point of view this is a continuation of the idea we have already seen with Overlord.

I wonder if they are considering a re-release of Ultra Magnus with a few tweaks and a new cab too ? Or if it's a line wide gimmick that requires them to be swapable Torso perhaps not.

I'll be curious how they deal with the colour issues that Optimus Primal / Optimal Optimus will raise... Unless they cheat and just make the whole thing Primal Prime colours.

Also just thinking about the Primes Themselves how it relates to the play pattern, aren't there really only 2 "Evil" Primes (Liege Maximo and Megatronus/The Fallen)? I mean I know some have not really been explored outside of the CoP, and maybe more ambivalent in nature, but this could really cause even more of a uneven Autobot to Decepticon balance, unless some of those Primes all of a sudden are aligned with evil characters?

I mean in IDW the eventual coming of Onyx Prime (Lord of Beasts) sounded kind of ominous coming from Galvatron before he died, but no doubt he will be aligned with Optimus Primal in the toy line one would think...???

There's been certain implications that a lot of the Primes aren't as goody two-shoes as we'd think. Prima, Alpha Trion, Vector Prime, Solus Prime and Optimus Prime (uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh) seem to be the only benevolent ones. Others seem to be more ambiguous, uncaring or downright malevolent in nature. Not necessarily doing evil for evil's sake or aligning with the Decepticons, but having their own agendas and letting their status and power get to their heads. That seems to be what's implied to me, anyway. This could all just be piss.

Starscream seems to have some clip tabs on his wings perhaps for armour ?
though what the folding wings are for is a bit of a puzzle.

I would also say that Starscream's guns are a bit over hollow looking for my tastes too.
Also speaking of guns Dreadwind/g really could do with a couple of them if Darkwing has two of them.

I like Jazz he's got a look about him that I can see being repainted into Crasher or a Trubomaster. or Even as Drench or Tailspin - Jazz isn't at all what I was expecting but if you search for Martini Sponsored Cars there is a few similar to this so the deco and mode is pretty reasoanble. I wouldn't be as pleased if they tried to use it for Sideswipe as well thoug - i'd prefer something more Lamborghini like for him...

But they might not do Sideswipe for the same reason they don't do Steeljaw (even if Windblade tends to make a nonsense of the whole idea that RID & Generations can't share characters) as Does Jazz and even Ratchet for that matter too.

I'm keen to see some more Prime-Masters to see if they all use logos that suggest a for of a face. Jazz's Gun isn't up to much either.

So far I like the sound of Power of the Primes. The Prime Master thing is a nice way of continuing the Titanmaster gimmick while breathing new life into it. My thoughts on each reveal:

Jazz - Not too shabby. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as Reveal the Shield Jazz of course, but I may still get it when it's out.
Dreadwind and Blackwing - While I did initially roll my eyes at the sight of more Combiner Wars repaints, these two have turned out pretty nice, though they're probably not something I need.
Starscream - ....Yeah I think I'll just stick with my Combiner Wars Leader.
Liege Maximo - I like the Pretender Decoy Suit based on Skullgrin, though I do hope this isn't it for Liege Maximo and he gets at least a Deluxe figure as well. Same goes for the rest of the Primes.
Rodimus Prime - I can live without it, though the "evolution" armour idea is great. It said on TFormers.com that Optimus Primal would have this gimmick too, I wonder if they'll do it like regular Season 1 Optimus as the main figure and Optimal Optimus as his armor? That would be fantastic.

The combiner pegs are clearly visible, so are we thinking Dreadwind and Darkwing will be able to combine with Combiner Wars torsos?

The Rodimus is pretty neat, but I'm not sure that I need to get it. I do like the idea a lot, though, so we'll see.

I think the idea is that the Primes are all essentially dead and these Avatars are their essences preserved in a tiny body as a means to contain them.

Unless they always were tiny that is... and we simply didn't know. (not likely otherwise the Forge of Solus Prime & the Matrix of Leadership would be teeny too).

Now there is a thought "The Matrix of Leadership" if they call one of the Leaderclass toy's Prime-master cradles that then - what will the other ones be ? The Matrix of ??????

They can make the other two limbs be the missing team-members from The boxed set since swindle and Air Raid are pretty much shoe in moulds - they can if they want tweak them a bit - perhaps even make a bat or bird or Panther shaped "Master" as a chest piece for them.. which can later find other uses for things like Doubledealer.

I'm easing up a little on Starscream, but I'm still sorely disappointed by the proportions. Turns out that for TAAO, Pitre-Durocher was essentially handed a design for Hasbro -- which, when it was eventually turned into a toy here; was clearly modified for combining purposes. And naturally, in the comics the design has added little detailing and minor differences. It's a good basic design - and it's REALLY good in said comics - but it's just what differences the toy itself has that make it frustrating.

That's what's really bad about this figure. It's so, so, SO nearly perfect but a few little changes just ruin the whole thing.

I noticed there is some sort of Armoured up Starscream image from the IDW comics being pushed about - which is pretty similar to this new Screamer toy.

The Busy Book mini-figure isn't that different either really.

------

I notice Dreadwind/Darkwing looks like he has a cat head for a face.

I also noticed that size wise the frame of weapons that come with the The Last Knight Onestep gift set look like they would rather suit the Prime-Master "Pretenders" to a tee.

The Rodimus is pretty neat, but I'm not sure that I need to get it. I do like the idea a lot, though, so we'll see.

Man Starscream, what are you doing.

As one can clearly see, he's been working out.

I think what people are failing to see is the pretender shell homage in Starscream's design.

Let's face it. I love this design, mostly because it looks like a bruiser. I want an entire line of big bulky bots.
(Warning head cannon incoming)
Imagine they landed on a planet with super high gravity and needed to use thicker alloy to survive.

The gimmick looks unfun and useless contrary to titan returns.

"the not-head can become the matric inside the torso". What's the point ?

Are they keeping some announcements/reveal for later which will change how boring I see the thing ?

----------

Am I idealizing my memories of Titan return launch so much ? or the begining of this line really looks catastrophic ?

- useless gimmick : Titan masters had a role : heads. Not things to store uselessly in a torso like here.

Y'know, I kind of agree? It's like: "Hey, guys, there hasn't been a convention in months, so we've got a lot to reveal! No, just kidding, here's 9 figures that don't look great with a new gimmick thats not nearly what it was cracked up to be."
Like, not to have a negative outlook or anything, but man is this a let-down. I remember last SDCC being amazing, with huge reveals and lots of them, but this year, it's really just meh at best. Beachcomber is great, but that's about all that does it for me, which is pretty sad.

Maybe it's all a conspiracy to sell more Hascon tickets. ;) "Disappointed? Come to OUR convention to see the cool stuff."

So you'll be happy as you'll get a line where all voyagers will be repaints of this one as the differents seekers.

If you were tired of the 3 torsos retooled 548 times in combiner wars, please welcome power of prime, where all torsos will be absolutely identical.

I just checked back the 10 first pages of Titan returns thread, and it's clearly not the same ambiance.

AH! This is what Starscream reminds me of! These old Playskool star wars figures I had when I was younger. Huge feet and hands, just awful proportions.
