Thanks again to Loopaza Mega Store on Facebook, we have scans of the comic that accompanies the release of Takara Tomy Transformers Legends LG-42 Godbomber! The pages - currently still in Japanese - show off Minerva, Godbomber, part of the Grand Galvatron and Megatronia teams - and the possibility for Godbomber to combine with those Combiner Wars / Unite Warriors limbs! Nah, this is essentially just their way of showing off Godbomber is bizarrely compatible with UW figures. Nothing in here indicates a new combiner - though I wonder if the translation will show anything new...

I suppose that would make sense - Nightbeat was only released as a variation of Minerva in Japan, so that would explain why she looks exactly like Minerva. The plot thickens... :-?

Sakamoto-senpai delivers again. I love the little "Blurr Transport" on the box in that one panel. Also, Godbomber looks like a metric tonne of fun. Violence Foot mode AND Headmaster compatibility fun? Hell yeah!

Oh boy I cannot wait for my Godbomber to arrive. Out of all toys I have and seen I think Godbomber may be the best valued toy. This guy cost me $110AUD and it has Headmaster gimmick, UW/CW gimmick with his two legs swappable with any UW/CW toys, its leader sized with 3 alt modes and can combine with Opti-I mean Super Ginrai.

I wonder if I can turn those thighs downwards when I have Godbomber combined. I could get my 2 Aerialbots and connect it there for extra thrust. This toy has so much play value for its price.

Between this and some of the design cues on Doublecross and Weirdwolf, definitely feels like some pre-plannning for the "animal" combiners like Abominus, Pirhanacon, and Predaking may be going on :-?

Thanks to Twitter user hikui_low, and fellow Seibertronian ScottyP, we have photo proof that Takara Tomy Transformers Legends LG-42 Godbomber does indeed allow for Combiner Wars / Unite Warriors compatibility, as shown in the comic scans that came with the figure! Meant to come in and clear this up but WeatherManNX01 pretty much nailed it, so thanks for the assist!

In a little more detail, we can look at Weirdwolf:

Does it need remolding? Yes, but if you look carefully, the parts that make the Headmaster attach are a separate piece. Take that out, do some minor rework for the port, add a new head, add Doublecross' arms, do some other minor retooling, then tweak the colors just slightly = oh look, Sinnertwin. Doublecross' body style is very Rippersnapper-like in stature, so again just some arm piece swapping and retooling for the Terrorist Shark head. Need a weird shrimpy body for Blot? Hello, Mindwipe, who also has some stuff one could use on a Cutthroat. The only missing piece is the torso, and boy howdy does Godbomber have a big blocky chestplate like Abominus. Not sure how you'd get a Hun-Grr out of the rest but he is parts-formery, so there's that.

i have a feeling on who the pack in headmasters for Bumblebee and Seaspray might be when they are released. Bumblebee most likely will come with the US Cerebros head who is Spike for obvious reasons. But for Seaspray, I'm thinking Minerva repainted from Ptero and maybe using parts from Goshooter or Nightbeat. I just think Ptero's face would make for a good Minerva

Same. I'm just waiting for BBTS to list the Magnus Prime set. I hope there is a Hasbro release of God Bomber / Apex Armor. Seems like a waste if there isn't, and I'm afraid getting the Takara version at that point would be pricey.

Nightbeat never had a direct Japanese counterpart, neither did Siren or Hosehead, or the rest of the Headmaster Jrs. and Pretenders for that matter. They were all reimagined as new unique characters for Masterforce. For all intents and purposes, Nightbeat's "counterpart" would be Minerva, on the same note Siren's would be Goshooter.
HOWEVER, this is a rather clever reference to a mailaway version of Minerva done in US Nightbeat colors, called Minerva Nightbeat (Goshooter had one too called Goshooter Siren). Apparently it's been repurposed as an alternate, evil version of Minerva, using the generic mass-produced Nightbeat suit.

Takara already released the Hasbro heads for the 1987 Headmasters in a set together.

Godbomber looks like a lot of fun, I don't know much about Japanese G1, but I might try getting a Godbomber for the Combiner compatibility. A Hasbro version would be great as well, hopefully Hasbro can sneak him into Wave 6 of the Titans Return Voyagers if he can fit into a Voyager box.

I love Asian reviews. They're great.

Can't wait to get this guy. I'm glad he transformers and isn't just pull him all apart to make him a robot like the original. Surprised the helmet is separate. I figured it would have been like the other leader class figures and have it attached

Yep, cant wait until my pre-order gets filled. Got the email the other day that it will soon to be received, but one thing that I like from what I've seen here is that it has SO many peg holes and that is so cool because i have a ton of extra weapons that im gonna load him up with. I'm glad i saw the video of this but geez, that camera was too close but glad he made it though

Godbomber arrived today and WOW is it one heck of a mixed bag.

The trailer mode looks pretty great. But the baffling way that the cannon attaches means it's always loose. In fact, looseness is something a LOT of this guy suffers from. And that's a shame, because there are a LOT of moving parts to deal with. Parts split, have bits removed and swapped about, then reconnect. And it's hard to get any kind of "leverage" when every joint is about as stable as a strand from a Pull n Peel Twizzler.

The base mode is apparently obligatory, but does nothing of any worth.

The robot mode surprised me in how underwhelming it was. I mean, I get that this is a figure that has to do a LOT (unlike the original) but the Masterpiece-level engineering just serves to highlight some of the major shortcomings of the toy.

God Ginrai looks great, but is INCREDIBLY unbalanced. The combination of extra weight and unreliable joints do the combined mode no favors. A bit like Car Robots' God Fire Convoy in that regard. Only even less stable.

Also, I found out there was a minor manufacturing error with my Super Ginrai that made attaching one of the feet impossible. A bit of minor surgery fixed that issue. And speaking of the feet, this does make the awful feet from Super Ginrai look a bit more tolerable.

I *really* don't like how the wings look in the combined mode. They just sit too high for my taste.

Godbomber set me back about $48. And I definitely feel I got that money's worth. I had a lot of problems with it (more than any TF I can remember buying, in fact) but between this, Legends Fort Max, and MP Star Saber, I've got a pretty nice set of modern Takara Cybertron leaders. Here's hoping for DaiAtlas somewhere down the line.

I'm getting this despite the flaws shown but c'mon Takara really!

Couldn't you poole the absolute best engineering into this one? -sigh- Well if you can hear me Takara you push the next wave of LG figures forward for release and I will forgive you for this one! :-P

Back in the old days, we handled stability issues with a bit of nail polish.

I really don't mean to diminish Godbomber. The engineering is outright incredible for a $50 toy. I can't say enough how deceptively complex it is. It's just...heavy and loose.

An aside: I wouldn't be surprised to see a giftset version of God Ginrai released within in the next year or so. Probably with some chrome (which I can take or leave) and some fixes done to improve stability. The God Ginrai boxed set is iconic here in Japan. It wouldn't be out-of-character for TakTom to milk it a bit. Even the recent Kabaya kit payed homage to that wonderful bit of Masterforce.
