Nice set, and a nicer alternative to getting the TakaraTomy versions.

EDIT: Where's Sludge? 1986 movie all over again =/
Posted by Mindmaster on June 19th, 2014 @ 9:12am CDT
THIS is an SDCC exclusive in hyperdrive. Definitely up there with last year's Metroplex.

In all seriousness, I can see why they went with the original toy rather than Swoop's cartoon model: his coloration would be too close to the regular retail release of Strafe if the cartoon model was used. I'm actually surprised Sludge/Slog is not included, though.

You know, had they just made the actual toys a subdued metal color I would want them. I don't like the bright blue, red and purple really.
These just seem so much better to me even if its bright.

Our first look at Snarl, as well as Sludge Spikesaur Slog, can be seen here.

I still say Slog looks more like a Brachiosaurus than a Brontosaurus Apatosaurus. Just saying. >:oP

I really want this set! I don't think I'll have a problem dropping a dime on this Effer.
Time to take back my retail Grimlock, Strafe, & Slug!
Truth be told that I would really like to see Sludge done up in the same paints as this set.
Posted by reluctantyouth on June 19th, 2014 @ 9:56am CDT
This is EPIC...must try to get from hasbrotoyshop.com. This undoubtedly will sell so damn fast...probably faster than Metroplex did. I don't want to have to pay Ebay scalpers $300+ for this set
Grimlock: Me King. Me think Hasbro should get off pompous ass and offer pre-order rather than make fandom wait for shitty site to crash. Fandom good. Hasbro bad. Hasbro when you listen to Fandom?

Nice! And here I thought Slash was replacing Snarl as the 5th dinobot. Glad to see that's not the case.

Also included in this set is a set of platforms designed after the Autobots' base of operations, the Ark, which is actually made of the set's packaging!

I do find this quite a bit pricey though for one voyager and 3 deluxes. Is this on par with previous SDCC prices?

william-james88 wrote:You guys think this will be available after? Bruticus turned out to be found later as a platinum set and I am wondering if there are other precedents of SDCC exclusives finding their way to retail.
Not a chance in Hell.
Bruticus is the only exception, mainly because of the clamoring that the game-accurate deco should have been released in a wider scale.

SDCC exclusives are usually pretty pricey, mainly due to them being a limited run, but not on a scale like BotCon exclusives.

I'm really liking those repaints. Swoop is great. When you actually see his head and the details come out unlike the solid black plastic of the official release it looks twice as menacing looking.
The clear plastic on Grim is perfect.
SNARL.......he looks the best out of the four.
I'm glad they didn't include Sludge in this set. That figure is embarrassing.
I think this set is spectacular and the Dinos are awesome. I just wish that playset was made 30 years ago when i really could have had fun with it.

I doubt it for the whole team, but another "G1" Grimlock and Swoop (in cartoon blue) down the line I could see happening, if as a TRU-exclusive/Platinum Edition or something.
IIRC, Hasbro is limited on when it can use movie molds (i.e. it must be within so-and-so many months of the actual movie), and it seems like AoE might be a relatively short-lived line, so that would make a full re-release unlikely.

I call it right now. Geewunners will shoehorn these into their classics collection because they are colored like geewun.
We need a graphic of a shoehorn shoving these, GDO figures like Springer and wheelie, PCC Huffer, FOC Shockwave, Animated Arcee and a dozen or so movie figures onto a shelf of classics figures. That would be awesome.

Convention exclusives usually are. All part of the hobby, and something we all have to live with, whether you want them but can't afford them or not.

No, they'd leave completely them alone, simply because they're not G1.

Except the GDO figures were all G1 characters, regardless of mold (except Leader Ironhide and Starscream). Aside from that, would be funny to see I suppose, if not insulting.

Nope he's not. All SDCC exclusives are available after the convention over HTS. Some of them have also been released in retail, mostly Australia. Alternators Nemesis Prime for instance was an insanely sought after SDCC exclusive, and then shelf warmed in Australia.
The Rock Band will likely never be made available after SDCC again, but this set, minus the packaging, has a high chance of seeing another release down the line.

So you basically want a real world version of the Transformers Collectors Club comic.
Anyway, I like the set, but I wish the colors were just a tiny bit more accurate. Slag/Slug would have been better with a gold ridge and I hate that they had to use gold plastic on Grimlock instead of gold chrome (I'm guessing these spots are soft plastic?). Otherwise they put in a great effort.
Maybe they'll throw us a bone and lighten the plastic on Sludge/Slog and add some chrome for the retail version, but I wont hold my breath. Maybe they'll make a second set with a G1-accurate-ish Sludge and G1 inspired versions of Slash and Scorn for TRU or something.

At this point, only the promise of another trio of freshly colored exclusive seekers can force me to rub elbows with a whole convention full of fans of the Transformer spin-off series that came after G1! These fans along with Hasbro have collectively ruined the world's greatest franchise!
Do us all a favor and find a new hobby. >:oP

I doubt it. We had Constructicons for ROTF and it never led to Generations versions.
I can understand why they don't want to do them. Five new dinosaur toys are a hard sell without a movie to back them up. I wish they would at least do the Dinobots in Legends class so the completest in me could have some version of them.

But who would entertain us with their close minded opinions?
Cut the guy some slack, who knows how long it took him to post that on his dial-up modem from the 80's, he should be applauded for his dedication to the franchise!

I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but it's worth nothing spin-off series, there wouldn't be a Transformers franchise. Beast Wars, in particular, was a crucial moment in the brand's history. I could be bitching about not getting a Terrorsaur-colored Strafe or whatever, but I won't, because Hasbro is not my personal army.
