After making it clear he will not be directing the next “Transformers” pic, Michael Bay may have found a project that doesn’t involve larger-than-life robots.
[...]
Bay said in August that while the next “Transformers” is already dated, he would not be returning to direct, and while this film will not feature the same elements, it still fits into his wheelhouse of action-heavy material
Bay said he believes he'll hand directing duties on Transformers 5 over to someone else so he can work on other projects, such as a documentary about elephant poaching. "There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make," said Bay, who's helmed all four live-action Transformers flicks. "I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles."

He must be sick of Transformers by now so fair play to him. This should allow the films to evolve ( or transform if you please), build on what is good and replace elements that need replacing.
Edit: Actually, I think this is false. A docu on elephant poaching seems like such a huge change for him that I dont see it being true.

Actually, the latest news has it that, according to Variety magazine, "Bay is in early talks to direct Paramount’s “13 Hours,” which is based on the true story recounting the attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya, on the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11." Sounds like something along the lines of The Rock--he's always loved to direct movies like these.
Frankly, I can see him being creatively exhausted as far as the TF franchise is concerned, despite the money he's making.

The tricky part is if you introduce too many, the narrative starts falling apart.
It's funny that he says that considering TF4 had so few Autobots, yet they failed immensely in devoloping their characters. My friend walked out of the movie asking me why they barely mentioned their names, and how the Helicopter Autobot just disappeared from the movie after the factory siege.
Would be awesome to have Unicron, but the budget on that would have to be enormous. I'm hoping we see more well known Decepticons this movie, like Blitzwing and Thundercracker.

I think its quite sad when my brain processes "Michael Bay" and "Elephant Documentary", and then this video immediately flashes to my mind
Sad for Bay, or just sad for me.

This is like the, what, zillionth time this rumor's come about? First it was that he wouldn't return for the third movie, and then we got DOTM. Then it was that he wouldn't return for the fourth movie, and then we got AOE. And here we are once again for the fifth movie.
As long as he keeps bringing in the Benjamins, I doubt Hasbro will ever let him go. I'll believe this when it comes from Paramount or from Bay himself. But as of now, this is as bogus as it's ever been.

Transformers 5 should wait till Mr. Bay takes a little rest.
Posted by Noideaforaname on October 30th, 2014 @ 8:24am CDT
This rumor has popped up every sequel. Besides, a change in director means nothing (Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Pirates have all had changes in directors without completely rebooting everything), and there's no way they're going to try anything new when Bay's method has earned them billions. At most they'll just go with a Bay-esque director.

No. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it's true, all these years of fighting have been for naught. I don't see how this could be a false rumor, seeing as though TF5 already has a set date and Bay wants to direct another movie, instead. There's always a chance, but odds are in the favor that it's true, as of now.

i dont want to bash ppl that like the movies.......
but to me they were unwatchable, sexist and just plain dumb
we need someone that understand the tf lore, and give us stories that make sense. and someone who doesnt use the same formula over and over and freaking over......
sure they are robots and stuff blows up, thats cool. But ur telling me u cant tell a good story, theres are thousands! hire the idw guys to write scripts etc!
anyways good bye bay, u sucked and wont be missed by me at all........

Sadly, I really can't imagine Michael Bay out now, not in the middle of new trilogy. It dosen't make any sense to return only for AOE. But then again, since when Bay seems to care about common logic?

Wanting someone with knowledge of the TF lore is also a tall order, how many directors do you know of with that under their belt?
Remember, like it or not, the movies have helped the franchise, there loads of kids who love these movies, some of which will delve further into the franchise, if they haven't experienced more of it already with Prime and Rescue Bots.
Don't forget the old proverb, don't count your chickens till they're hatched.

Movie.....suspended belief. Sexist? Btw, you haven't been looking at Sports Illustrated or Victoria's Secret?
I'm not defending how "good" the films are, prefer only the first one but Megan's curves really hasn't left such a big impression on my cod piece. Steve Jablonsky's soundtracks did.

Now before you say that it doesn't matter who or anyone is better, let's kst think about this. There is plenty of people who they could hire who would do a far worse job then bay, or will be simply be wrong for the job based on their own likes and experiences. Imagine if the person behind the sex and.the city movies did 5?

but would they risk hiring someone worse? i mean it earns them a great deal of money wouldnt they want a director that would make them at least the same amount of money or even more?

My choice is one who has done primarily animated films, but has recently transitioned into doing live action stuff as well, and has received plenty of critical praise for his work, and has been nonimated for several academy award, and has several of them as well.
My pick is Brad Bird.

There are many who are worse then Bay and we also still have the rest of the film crew including that turd who dares call himself a writer Kruger.
Plus Bay can do action and lets say the replacement can't make good action and also have a lack of focus on Transformers.

Also true that Hasbro wont hire someone to make a bad movie, just like they hred Michael bay in the first place

Although I hope Spielberg would direct TF5,yes, I agree with you,we might get a wreck of a director who dares call himself a director.Michael Bay's action scenes were extremely good IMO (maybe its because I love Transformers) but I think a few improvements should be made. For example,a very dark tone in the storyline and reduction of notorious plot holes. But to all fans out there, what if the new director is so much worse than Michael Bay that he fails to see what can improve the Transformers miserably and has a very bad designer who gives nothing but horrible designs to the robots.(we might have new characters)
These are just my hopes.Whether they become justified or not, only time will tell. So,yes,I would take it with a grain of salt and not more than that.

Imagine doing 4 movies based on something you were never a fan of, and were only given one non-TF movie to do before continuing. Seriously, the man needs a break. No matter how much money he's making, his creative juices seem to be draining.
In the past 3 movies, he's been able to choreograph some unique and different fight scenes. In AOE, for the first time, he's had to recycle an idea he's already used, repeating the part in the DOTM highway chase where Bee transforms into bot mode, pushes debris away from his human passenger(s) and transforms back into a car. Yes, this time we have OP doing it with Bee, and they jump over a bridge, but it's fundamentally the same.
TL;DR - like him or hate him, I think it's time for him to say goodbye, or at least take a long break to recharge his batteries.

Why Is Bird's name blocked out in those earlier posts? He'd be a good choice, but he'd never take the job. Plus he's a bigger pain in the #$@ then Bay. Master at what he does though.
I don't care who directs, this is what I'd like to see different.
1. New writers. Those guys have slaughtered enough Sci/Fi Fantasy franchises to fill a cargo freighter, and that's taking up precious cargo space that could be filled with more Masterpiece figures.
2. New art direction. Hollywood has this bad habit of shooting steroids straight into the testicles of some of our most beloved heroes. There is already 30 plus years of awesome character design for the Transformers. Japanese robot design is an art form in itself. Let's see that in a movie.
3. PUT THE CAMERA DOWN.
Why is the answer to the question about, can't we have a movie that's more robot less human, there's no budget for that. How much money did AOE make? $389,998,735,200.32?
one more tiny thing. I don't think Optimus yells "I'll kill you", at people. he wouldn't even yell that at Megs.

Sorry I blew it.
Really interesting choice.
It seems he only tells stories he really wants to tell. I wonder if he has any interest in TFs?
I could think of a bunch of cartoon directors that would be good for the job.
