Fellow Seibertronians, we have a very tantalizing rumor to pass along! Our own Shajaki has pointed us to some pictures gleaned from the Facebook group Transformers Never Die. The pictures depict none other than the most famous of all Autobots, Optimus Prime, in all his G1 glory (minus his trailer). He's packaged in the same style of retro "Vintage G1 Transformer" box that Hasbro has used this year for the Walmart Starscream and Hot Rod G1 reissues. Not a lot information is to be found yet about this mysterious addition to the "Vintage G1" line-up. These pictures may have been taken at a Taiwan trade show. If anyone is able to translate any of the information on the post on TFND or anything in the comments, please let the Seibertron New Crew know so that we can update this story! For now, enjoy what could very well be appearing on Walmart shelves in the near future in the United States and Canada!
Take particular note of the first picture. This alleged Vintage G1 Optimus Prime release is sitting atop the soon-to-be released Transformers Siege Leader Shockwave and Leader Ultra Magnus. You can just make out "Decepticon Shockwave" on the left box and WFC-S13 on the box on the right, which is the designation for Ultra Magnus in the War for Cybertron: SIEGE line.
What do you think of the possibility of getting another reissue of G1 Optimus Prime, but without his signature trailer? Is this a hoax? A clever knock-off? A Hasbro Asia exclusive? Tell us what you think in the comments below as we delve deeper into this mystery. As always, stay tuned to Seibertron.com for all the latest news on everything Transformers!

Or, perhaps they've been retooled so that the smoke stacks extend and retract? That way, you can get them at the original full length, but if enough pressure is put on them, they'll collapse down and prevent someone from puncturing themselves, or whatever the reason is for short smokestacks in the U.S.

Pretty sure it’s just changed. MP-10 has not released didn’t have the shortened stacks so it’s very possible that’s changed since he last release which was when? 2009 when that 25th anniversary box came out?

The MP-10 one was first released in 2011, and last reissued in 2017, all with long stacks. The 25th Anniversary G1 reissue did have short stacks... as did the Asian re-release of the Commemorative Series one in 2012. Odd.

The Jada model had full-length stacks, but it might not be classified as a toy for testing purposes.
Do Studio Series Optimus' stacks collapse?

Studio Series Prime's stacks never could extend. But if this new G1 Prime has extendable stacks(pretty sure MP-10's did), that would be great. Not having them is OK too, and I will definitely pick up this Prime when I see it.

MP-10 stacks extended not due to safety tests but to hide the bottom of the stacks. You extended them for robot mode to hide the part of the curved bottom of the stack that would look like it’s connected to the cab in vehicle mode.

These aren't collapsible, I can tell just by looking at the pics that they're the same old 1-piece stacks.
And you miss my point about Studio Series Optimus' stacks; I was using him as a gauge of sorts. Judging by photos, his stacks stick up past the top of his cabin somewhat as-is, stubby though they are. They possibly even stick up as as far as G1 Optimus' original stacks. If they do stick up that far, and are not collapsible, then I'd say the standards have indeed relaxed. But I myself can't be certain.

Not really a reissue if it doesnt include his trailer but nice to see and have different price points. Megatron with out his stock would be weirder tho even if it looks like that could be a possibility now.

Not really. Kids will be able to recreate all those famous "where did Prime's trailer go?" scenes.
Even though I have plenty of G1 Prime's, I do want to pick this up simply for the fact that it's different, the packaging is new, it's "a Prime that's never been done before".

Like I said, the good part of this is it will make the overal price much more reasonable.
Let's hope he will be plentiful like Hotrod was.

I'm also going to hazard a guess that if it is real, that the other usual suspects that always get reissued will show up. Hasbro haven't given us Hound as a reissue yet, and given he was in the live-action films - that gives me some hope.
If they reissue Bruticus again...
blackeyedprime wrote:Megatron with out his stock would be weirder tho even if it looks like that could be a possibility now.
That, unfortunately, is never going to happen. Hasbro aren't in the business of making a realistic gun toy anymore.

It already did happen some years ago. By Takara, of course. Dat DOTM 2 pack. G1 Megs had a special color and came without stock.
Prime got one too but he came with a trailer. But only the "empty box" that was the DOTM trailer. So that doesn't count.

- Curved edges on the flap. The current reissues are hard edged (square)
- No Squares to the left side of "Converts to Truck to Robot and back". The others all have 2\3 squares here.
- Recycling mark on the plastic window.
- Grey border extends around the bottom and left of the window.
- Grey border follows the contours of the art too closely where usually it would be simplified
- Optimus Prime art is the 1984 Hasbro version. Historically, when Hasbro reissues Optimus Prime, they use the Japanese box art.
- All of the folded parts of the box have wear, as if creased by hand and not factory cut.
:edit:
- Window cuts off bottom of square grid
- Asterisk next to "More Than Meets The Eye". The others don't have this.
I'm sure there is more if I look hard enough.

1) They have the yet to be released siege Shockwave, who as of this posting is not available anywhere for me to buy. Not even at scalper prices on EBay (I’m looking at least 2x a day for him and Magnus).
2) If it doesn’t make dollars then it doesn’t make sense. Who profits from this hoax? It’s simply not worth the money to put something like this together.

The listing itself can be found on Walmart's own website as well as on Brickseek. With Hasbro reissuing G1 Transformers again – Optimus Prime seemed more like an eventuality than a maybe, but another chance to grab this iconic character for yourself is always welcome.
Until an official announcement is made, why not take a moment to refresh your optics with a look at Seibertron.com's own G1 Optimus Prime gallery!

2) It has been an issue in the past that knock-off releases have been spread as a rumor of a legitimate reissue. Its also been a problem that sometimes a reissue is faked before its even hit the shelves - Encore Metroplex being a good example
I'm also very glad I appear to be wrong. Even if that leaked image has all sorts of inconsistencies about the box...

Yes, but not only was there photographic evidence of the re-issue, there was supporting evidence to back it up in the form of other as yet to be released toys surrounding it. You gotta look at these things on a case by case basis.

I think you very well could be right about the box being a mock-up, though. My best guess, based on the Google translation of the original post, is that these pictures were taken at a booth of a trade show or expo in Taiwan. Hasbro may not have finalized the box design, which isn’t too hard to imagine if this release is still months away.

I will second this, the reissue is real but this box will undergo other changes till it falls in line with the others.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on that one. Stock or not, he still turns into a realistic gun. Given the current climate around guns in the US, a reissue of the toy seems very unlikely.

Biggest sign that this box is a mockup for demonstration purposes: No hole punched in it for a shelf peg

Yup, sure did. I bet a POTP Predaking that the Bumblebee movie wouldn’t make $400 million worldwide. Burn bet the removal of some unwarranted warnings or some such minor crap. It’s sad that fans expect this movie to be the lowest grossing of the entire lot , I didn’t come up with that number, I just agreed to it. It’s also sad that now people are arguing about how I could have been wrong about the G1 Prime reissue not being fake. Putting that particular pic together would cost a scammer a little bit of money to get those unreleased toys together along with his fake boxed Prime fig. I think a scammer would prefer his creation sell on eBay rather than be content to have it ogled for free on Facebook.ZeroWolf wrote:Or you could be wrong...speaking of which didn't you make a bet with Burn regarding critical appraisal of Bumblebee?

Part of the problem there is mold wear. Let's see, the Combaticons have been used how many times?
* Hasbro G1 Bruticus
* Takara G1 Bruticus (counting separately because of Onslaught)
* Battle Gaia
* G2 Bruticus
* Car Robots Baldigus
* RiD Ruination
* Urban Camo Ruination
* Desert Camo Ruination
* Encore Bruticus
Kinda a lot. So it's no wonder the molds are worn. However, even if Hasbro did do another reissue and refresh the molds into the bargain... I would still be inclined to save up for the Encore version instead. Unless Hasbro had a change of heart about the base-mode launcher and actually included the darn thing instead of the dummy filler piece.

Also, as I said before, Hoaxes. Are. Also. Done. For. Pranks. Profit is not a necessary part of the equation.
Not that it matters in this particular case since it's legit, but your logic was still faulty 1984forever.

So, these are just stacked on the shelves instead of hung from pegs? Then the box design is f***ing stupid. The whole smegging point of having the top flap is to hang the box from a peg! If they're not doing that then the flap is a needless counterproductive protrusion!
