Are you ready for this? The answer to your desires seems to be coming from a very unexpected size toy...the legends class toy of the Constructicons and Devastator.
According to toywizard.net, the Takara Tomy EZ (Legends size in the U.S.) Devastator set toys can transform from individual vehicles, to individual robots, to a combined form of DEVASTATOR!!! Yes, that's right, the good ol' days are upon us again, it seems.

Regardless, I'm floored by this. And Hasbro wasn't able to make a working full size version why again?!

I'm actually excited for Legends class figures!

Sorry, I was up with the baby, knew it was important, and saw that we seemed to have an exclusive here.
Plus, it's super cool.

Interesting... now UpSize that thing!
Posted by guardianprime on May 11th, 2009 @ 11:03pm CDT
it would add a little more entertainment in the race to get them!

There are a couple weird ones in the group...Demolisher, and then the crane has some funky arachnid look to it. Then there is the grader that appears to be Bonecrusher re-incarnated....

Guess it confirms that Overload exists, although it also confirms Demolisher IS Scavenger. Good to know.
I'm not, however, gonna dump hate on the big version.
The reasons for the hundred dollar version are simple. It's electronic, and has more gimmicks. It can do his mouth action. This one obviously cannot. Also, the individual bots, the ACTUAL figures, would not be able to combine while having very accurate vehicle and robot modes. And still be awesome figures on their own. The Legends class robots modes are hardly on the scale of the deluxes and voyagers, so there is more leeway to experiment since all modes are so simple (They need to be due to the price point.) I'd rather Hasbro not try to jam everything in one package, or seven, as it were.
Basically, I'll be getting both!

Marketing, same thing actually

Naw, guess that can't be it.

Rivet Head wrote:That's pretty impressive for its small size! And if the individual Constructicons are normal sized compared to your average Legends class bot, this is definitely a must have. Makes me wonder if they will do likewise for the Optimus and Jetfire or even the Sisters and Twins (seeing as that combiners seems to be the name of the game in this particular toyline).
We've seen that Legends class, and leader class Jetfires and Primes will combine...

Well, I guess we'll have to respectfully disagree.
But on a different note,
I'm loving the different style of bot designs for this movie, and the constructicons. Hightower looks weird, but also kinda cool. Just like the bikes.

go figure.

I'm loving the movie legends so far (aside from basic repaints) and I just can't wait to get these and the obvious g1 color giftset! (oh come now, you all know there will be one. We'll probably see images of it before the Constructicon Legends hit shelves.)

All right, Hasbro. Time to step up! If this toy doesn't make it to the states, those of you living in Rhode Island may want to seek shelter elsewhere. The streets of Jersey would probably be a safer place than anywhere near Pawtucket,RI. Hasbro will likely be over-run.

Oilspill wrote:I do find it funny that they can pull off this engineering in the legends size class but not larger size classes. Oh well.
Your comment made me realize something... and I mean this with no disrespect to you or your opinion, I'm just thinking out loud here after reading it.
It's not really funny, just done before. Think about how much "engineering" went into the original six Constructicons. Now compare those flip-part-swing-arms-stand-up figures to these small "simple" figures. These little bastard are a pretty good use of modern Transformers figure engineering. Not to mention the almost guaranteed range of movement and positionable options both kids and collectors alike will have with these.
I'm not knocking the O.G.D. but this new one is really growing on me, more so with the news of these little bad boys!

I was going to say the same thing. That would be somethng I would import for sure.. It did say that they would ship as soon as they got the stock in so maybe once they get the stock they will put up the pre-order form..Hopefully it won't cost a first born child

Im not sure how confident I am at Devastators ability to hold its arms upright with the the weight of a whole figure being supported by only part of another legend class which I doubt has ratched joints.
Still, it will keep a lot of people happy.

Obviously thats why Dev now looks like a multicoloured Megazord. Having 3 yellow bots managed to confuse someone, nevermind of they were all the same colour.

Now, if everyone here emails hasbro to make a larger version of this, we just might get it. I'm gonna do it right now.

karellan wrote:For those of you wondering why they can't/won't do this in the larger classes, just look at the picture and it should tell you everything you need to know. The combined Devastator doesn't look much like the movie, and most of the individual bots look totally wrong too. Only the vehicle modes look remotely close to the movie. In the smaller class and lower price point, most people won't care that much. But if you paid the big bucks for the larger ones and they were that far off from the movie, you'd be SUPER pissed.
Yeah but with more plastic to play with they would be able to get them more accurate. Heck I wouldnt care if you had to clip on extra parts to enable them to combine.

I will definitely get this version. Size doesn't matter to me and this has everything I want from a Constructicon set. The price difference also helps.

A few months ago you couldn't so much as hint at a want of a full sized vehicle to robot to combined robot set of these guys without several fellow fans coming out of the woodwork to tell you the complexity of creating Transformer toys of Deluxe or larger sized that could also combine (WELL! combine WELL! NOT like those larger - and crappy - Energon combiners) into a huge robot was out of the question, seeming to imply something Hasbro's been doing since Transformers started was now out of their capability after twenty-five years of advancements in design.
Now they can throw together a Legends class set with ease?
Buh?
