As seen in this last episode, Mark Hamill will play Megatronus, one of the original thirteen primes. Ron Perlman will play Optimus Primal, the Maximal Leader fans remember from Beast Wars (in a new fictional context of course). Gregg Berger will also be in Power of the Primes, as Grimlock, and WWE's Samoa Joe will play Predaking. Mikey Way and Jamie King have also joined the cast.
The article also states that Wil Wheaton, Judd Nelson and Kari Wahlgren will also return in Transformers: Power of the Primes, which should launch in the scond quarter of 2018.

Still I'm surprised they didn't get Garry Chalk to reprise his roll as Optimus Primal. That would have been cool, and with so many willing to jump in to these series, I would think he would too.

I am sure he would. But I think he simply wasnt asked and they went in favor of a more known actor. Paul Eiding is alive and well but they chose to have Will Wheaton voice Perceptor instead.

I've seen this quite a bit already, and I'm sure it will be the focus of a lot of discussion. To fans of BW Gary Chalk is as revered as Peter Cullen is to fans of the original series, which I understand.
However, to try to put things in perspective. Another actual "Optimus Prime" did not appear until RiD 2001, voiced by Neil Kaplan, which was serviceable. I know fans initially thought that ANY Optimus should have been voiced by Cullen, but when you come to understand that these are all different versions of Prime in different continuities, it becomes easier to understand. Thus we have Gary Chalk and David Kaye voicing him as well in different series.
The first I think *violation* was when they chose John Bailey over Cullen in Machinima's CW. Now all respect to John, he is a great VA, and IMHO, I figured that CW was just a small production, so I didn't mind him doing the role, he did well, no complaints on my end. I was actually surprised when Cullen signed on to do Titans Return.
Fans of Gary Chalk should take the same approach. He possibly was not asked, or maybe he turned it down due to schedule conflicts? I know a lot of fans (including myself) are excited about the additional *Star Power*, but lets face it. Most of these are B list actors. Actors that have a cult following, are huge in geek culture, (Comic-Cons etc...)but are not "A" list Actors. Would it have been nice to see Gary Chalk reprise the role, of course, and who knows, in time we may yet see him do so, but for now, I do look forward to see how Ron Perlman approaches the character.

I dont think its comparable. CW used none of the same cast members as G1 and they went for a non union appraoch.
But ever since TR and now with POTP they have more money to get unionized actors, and they are getting bigger names. We have G1 Optimus, Rodimus and now Grimlock but they went for more "sensationalist" names for other characters.

(Also, how come POTP gets its own thread while TR just took over CW's thread?)

Because there was a pretty big gap in between the two. Here we have news the same day regarding the 2 different series. So two ongoing discussions about different series.

That explains him appearing as one of the villains in Arrow
Also, vancouver Canada is now the home base of Marcello Matere, the man behind Transfomrers packaging art from Armada to now.

Yeah, a few Canadian TF actors have popped up in the Arrowverse. Ty Olsson (Energon Downshift) was the criminal-of-the-week in Episode 2 of Arrow Season 1. Kirby Morrow (Rad in Armada/Energon and Cybertron Hot Shot) was both a minor character in an Arrow episode and Jax's football coach in his debut episode of The Flash. And most prominently of all, Venus Terzo (BW/BM Blackarachnia) plays the recurring Arrow character Dr. Schwartz (Oliver's personal doctor who knows he's the Green Arrow).william-james88 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Garry Chalk is based in Vancouver, Canada.BlastWave2 wrote:I can't believe hey didn't get Gary Chalk to play Optimus Primal! Wow that's cool. I did not know that. I used to watch all the "Arrowverse" shows, up until last year. Yeah, I've always known bout the Canadian actor pool since BW, they are a talented bunch, no doubt about that.

I looked her up on google and discovered that she comes from my hometown, which is also the hometown of Peter Cullen

Good? The whole show was one massive fake-out. We spent two episodes building up to Trypticon's threat, then seven episodes of fighting Trypticon, only for the last episode to just have him suddenly fall over and then switch its attention to something else entirely unrelated to all that came before, as though those two episodes of build up and seven episodes of fighting were all for nothing.Ultra Markus wrote:titans return was good,

This ^, I was disappointed, not as much as combiner wars but still disappointed. My big thing was, what was Megatronus plan anyway? He already has impressive power so why not do things himself?
Also I can hear the sound of that desk in that gif.

See, none of that was really explained, though. We're forced to make assumptions based on what very little scraps of info and logic that the show actually fed to us, as though it expected us to already be familiar with and understand everything that the show was trying to do with its story, which couldn't be further from the truth. That is not good storytelling.Ultra Markus wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:Ah you mean like the relatively few times they clashed in the g1 cartoon? I don't really care about the effort that went into the storytelling this is a low budget cartoon that managed to get some voice talent and decent animation
It is what it is
Now if this was a bigger budget show that had all the talent with 22 min episodes
There wouldn't be any excuse
Posted by Sabrblade on January 12th, 2018 @ 6:40pm CST
Being low budget doesn't give it a free pass for being mediocre. Remember that CW was seriously hyped up by its makers as being "the Game of Thrones of animation". They clearly had high hopes for these shows to be top notch works, but the end result makes those high hopes look more like delusions of grandeur if this kind of storytelling is what they think is on the same level as something like Game of Thrones.Ultra Markus wrote:I don't really care about the effort that went into the storytelling this is a low budget cartoon that managed to get some voice talent and decent animation

Even if they could get the best actors in history, they'd still need good writing and directing behind them. Honestly, they didn't need to get these big name actors involved in order for these shows to be good. The YouTube/lesser-known actors are talented enough to give good performances, Jason Marnocha's Megatron and Jon Bailey's unofficial Optimus Prime videos are proof of that. Had the shows budgeted their money for better writing and directing, CW and TR could have been something really good, or even great. They just needed to shift their focus more onto making the cake--rather than the icing--taste good.

Yeah, I find so many problems with this, not only in the fact that I think its really dumb to say that thse machinima series are done for fans (unlike any other output from hasbro) but saying that it has adult content is really really wrong.
