Well, that's a strange pair of two-parters. The Season 2 premiere and the Season 2 finale, bookends without the books that connect the two.

Really wish they'd just dump the full seasons out on Blu-Ray instead of doing things like this first. Oh well. It'll be like my Energon DVD collection one of these days where I've got half the series on singles and a box set of the full thing to fill in the gaps :BANG_HEAD:

Why not just wait till they release the whole thing?

Exactly. S!F pattern of releasing single/impulse purchase DVD's first is frustrating to be sure, but waiting until they release the whole season is always a pretty safe bet (unless its Rescue Bots...). Even then, why are you hanging on to single-disc releases of Energon? why not sell them if you have the box set?

I mean the last series I bought single DVD's of was Spectacular Spider-Man because in 2009-2010 there was no sign of full season sets, until 2014 when the whole 26 episodes were released on BRD and DVD. Then I purchased that set and dumped the singles. Since then I've just learned to wait (as with RiD15) or just live without (as in the case of Rescue Bots, and pretty much all of Disney/Marvels animated series since they are not available in any physical media form)

Looks awesome, but because this is in the animated series thread, has it been confirmed he will appear in the series, and not just as a toy?

Interesting. He looks like a classic five-piece Combiner, compared to Ultra Bee's four.

I put it here because he is more likely to appear in the animated series than as a toy. All toys so far have appeared in the animated series but only half or less of characters made it to toys. And Bruticus was not part of the latst app update for toys.

If you have not gotten around to watching season 2 it is now available on Netflix.com for your viewing pleasure. There is also a 6 part mini series under the season 3 category. The highlight of this season is the return of some fan favorite characters from Transformers: Prime. But don't worry, we won't spoil a thing. Enjoy!

If RiD does not suit your fancy, we suggest checking out an upcoming documentary on some nostalgic 80's toys!

Linking this news story cause it covers some important stuff for us here: https://www.seibertron.com/transformers ... air/37399/

So, the new title sequence has Dragbreak, or whatever that guys name is, and the combiner force logo. So, we are getting season 3 people, and we are certainly getting combiners!

The Menasor and Ultrabee round shots look cool, and if you look, Drift actually forms the sword for Ultra bee!

After binging season two, want to point something out about the "first" season finale (Decepticon Island). Also, obviously, spoilers to continue. In the first part, the team find the Fix-It type Minicons being held. Optimus wants to stop the mission to cyro-bomb the Alchemor to rescue them and this pause in the mission causes them to be caught be Steeljaw and the Decepticon army, ending the first part. Let me note that Bumblebee was against stopping to save them, likely because if the mission succeeded, they could save the caretaker Minicons. When the next part begins and they barely get away (w/o Windblade), Optimus Prime berates Bubblebee because "completing the mission needed to be the priority". Hypocrisy much, OP?

I think Optimus is losing it a bit in this show. Those first few episodes show you how off he is in his reasoning. I dont know why they made him so hard to root for in this show.

I'll probably watch some of the eps I missed on TV and the eps with my favs from Prime. I could use some cheer, it's been a long day. I think RiD is good for that. Despite it's flaws it is a cheery show.

Yeah, he kind of is. Which is sad for me because in Prime he was my absolute most favorite character, hands down. His sacrifice at the end of Predacons Rising was a bit heartbreaking, but completely in-character and felt right. I think bringing him back for RiD made that sacrifice feel less... eh. I know that's his shtick, but it ruined his arc in Prime for me some.
But I'll watch RiD because I still think it's a fun show and it's nice to see other characters try the leadership position.

Since Netflix now has season 1 and 2 I'm giving it another shot. Haven't watched an episode since the premier...I think. Is there any particular reason it's worth watching? I'm still having trouble dealing with their portrayal of Grimlock, it hurts me; in my soul.

I like Season 2 better because there are some episodes with some characters from Prime that I like. I also enjoy the animal themed Decepticons. It's a little bit kiddy and the art style isn't as nice as prime but it has its moments.

I agree in that I love how Op was portrayed in TF Prime, however RiD15 is written for a much younger audience, despite occurring in the same continuity. This is very much BB's show, not Op's, so they have to build some tension between the two, showing how- while their leadership styles differ, and they both work independently, they don't work well at the same time.

I kind of wish also that Op stayed in the Obi-Wan Kenobi like role as a non-living mentor to BB. But if you go back to the original series, Op's resurrection also made his sacrifice from TF:TM feel less impactful as well. It's an unfortunate trend that will no doubt continue as long as there is Optimus Prime & Transformers.

But as for the show itself, overall its ok, not as great as Prime, but still better than a few TF series I can think of. I am admittedly excited about season three (which is the first time I've actually been excited for this series), simply because I enjoy all things having to do with combiners. I imagine that there has to be an announcement soon as to when it will start airing.

yeah but hat was supposedly just for Germany, and I don't put much stock in those. If we can look at history... season one first air din the U.S. on 3/14/15, season two on 2/20/16...so we are definitely in that premiere "sweet spot". Of course CN is the king of Cluster Flubs when it comes to jacking with action oriented series, so who knows.

The Grim King wrote:Since Netflix now has season 1 and 2 I'm giving it another shot. Haven't watched an episode since the premier...I think. Is there any particular reason it's worth watching? I'm still having trouble dealing with their portrayal of Grimlock, it hurts me; in my soul.
NOTE: The following will pertain strictly to the Grimlocks of TF animation (minus the RiD 2001 Grimlock). Comics and prose Grimlocks are excluded for this response.

This is a very different kind of Grimlock from what we've usually gotten before. He's still true to the spirit of previous Grimlocks in that he's a big strong T-Rex guy who isn't the brightest but loves to fight and smash things while having a heart of gold, which is basically the core of any traditional take on Grimlock. This time, though, he's much more sociable and outgoing, and most of all younger. This is the first time we've ever really gotten a "rookie" take on Grimlock and had that aspect fully explored and developed. Previously Grimlocks tended to learn things by instinct at first and almost immediately got to a point where the writers were comfortable to keep at without further development (and often any changes from that status quo were later undone to return those Grimlocks back to "normal"). Here, however, we're presented with a Grimlock whose growth is ever-present. A Grimlock who's constantly learning and evolving as a character while still maintaining what makes him who he is. This is probably the deepest and most thorough take on Grimlock we've ever gotten.

What's more is that, despite how this Grimlock upholds the tradition of being less intelligent than the other non-Dinobot Autobots, this show has reassured us time and again that he is anything but stupid. He's not only even acknowledged his lower intellect a few times in the show (saying things to the others like "Just because I'm not as smart as the rest of you guys doesn't mean I'm an idiot!"), but he's even proved several times that he's own special degree of smarts is all he needs to be helpful. For instance, there was the episode that was a dual-homage to the G1 episode "Grimlock's New Brain" and the Prime episode "T.M.I." in which Grimlock temporarily got super-intelligent from a Cybertronian data cylinder (a condition that Grimlock almost immediately recognized as mentally fatal, which then reminded Bumblebee of what happened to Bulkhead in "T.M.I."). By the episode's climax, the Decepticon they were going up against, Simacore, was a super genius and had captured both Bumblebee and Strongarm, leaving Grimlock alone to face him. By this point, though, Grimlock had just gotten cured of his own fatal genius condition (which had by then become a hindrance since he had become compelled to calculate every possible tactic instead of relying on instinct), but a side-effect of the cure left him temporarily immobile, and he still had another genius to contend with. Using his own simpler brainpower to stall for the time needed for his mobility to recover, he challenged Simacore to a quiz of smarts and the very first question that Simacore asked (a rather complicated mathematical word problem) Grimlock gave an acceptable answer to based on his own knowledge of a place Simacore included in the question: The question was basically asking how long a holo-rail train would take to reach one city from another (one of which was Nuon City) under certain specific conditions, but Grimlock remembered that the Decepticon Underbite had previously bragged about having eaten all of Nuon City, so Grimlock's answer was that the question was a trick question because Nuon City no longer has a holo-rail; a line of reasoning that Simacore never considered, but reluctantly conceded as "technically true". And when it was Grimlock's turn to question Simacore, he at first struggled to think of something complex to say, but then his mobility finally returned and he also had an epiphany: He didn't need to ask Simacore a complex question because, with his mobility restored and Simacore awaiting Grimlock's question, Simacore had just then given Grimlock the opening he needed to fight back. Thus, Grimlock asked a rather simplistic question that Simicore chuckled at for its elementary nature, a moment that Grimlock took advantage of to maul through Simacore and reach his captured friends in time to save them from a particle accelerator that would have most assuredly killed them had Grimlock been any second later. Boo-yah!

There's also the episode with Scowl, another Dinobot who Grimlock tries to befriend since Scowl doesn't seem like such a bad guy, but because Scowl was so unhinged, undisciplined, and unwilling to learn restraint as Grimlock had, Grimlock's own since of ethics were put to the test as Scowl initially tempted Grimlock into reverting to his own Decepticon ways of wanton smashing. But while Grimlock gave in at first (since Scowl used a line of reasoning that Grimlock believed made it okay for them to smash the particular thing they were smashing at the time), he later came to his senses and spent the rest of the whole episode trying to stop Scowl from doing whatever he wanted. This led to Scowl feeling that Grimlock betrayed him and their Dinobot nature. Grimlock, in a stark change from most Grimlocks, tried to reason with Scowl, tried to appeal to the friendship that he and Scowl had formed earlier, but Scowl wouldn't listen and the two fought. Eventually, the conflict came to an end at a local spa, where Scowl tried to create as much damage as possible. Grimlock confronted him one last time, Dinobot vs. Dinobot. At the end of their fight, Grimlock seemed to have a change of heart, confessing to Scowl that Scowl's methods of collateral were indeed easier and more fun than Grimlock's own ways as an Autobot... but in that moment, Scowl hesitated and believed Grimlock to be joining him, which gave Grimlock the out he needed to knock Scowl out with a large stone ornament. Before passing out, Scowl heard Grimlock's final say: "Just because somethin's easier and more fun, Scowl, that doesn't make it right." In the end, Grimlock did good, but was saddened to see that he couldn't help Scowl the way Bumblebee and the others had helped him, realizing "you can't help some bot who doesn't wanna be helped." It's moments like this where Grimlock's genuine wisdom and maturity are brought to the surface and applauded. :APPLAUSE:

^Another point of observation, if I might add, in the original Series, Megatron took advantage of Grimlock's arrogance to turn him against Optimus Prime. I think when you take that away, this is what makes RiD15's Grimlock so unique. (Closer to original series season 3 Grimlock, but not quite as goofy) To be sure, the prideful, powerful Grimlock of the original series, TFA, (AoE to a lesser extent...)etc... definitely have their place, but when you take that away, this Grimlock wants to be a team player, WANTS to be liked, which is definitely something new, and can appeal to kids more so than the traditional angry Gromlock.

I'm so glad people responded, you've all made excellent points...none of which though are quite convincing me. Prime was a superior show in every regard (including Animation) it was the lack of dinobots that annoyed me, and now seeing grimlock I am disappointed. I understand what they were going for but at the same time I've always been a bigger fan of the grittier side of transformers, and grimlock in particular. His portrayal in FoC to me was perfect; but that being said that doesn't mean I don't respect everyone's views. I just find it hard to deal with this...much lighter tone.

P.S. - Grimlock's paint job...kill it, kill it with fire.

He was only like that in TF:TM & Season 3, why they made the change...I'll never know. I guess the writers figured, in 20 years time "enhancing" the Dinobots personality means making them more silly.

We start to see this in S2 episodes such as Dibobot Island parts 1 & 2, but you can tell, they are still very much warriors rather than the silly dopes they turned into later

The new gallery posted here has the static versions, but we also give you below a re-post of the turnarounds we saw over the weekend, for your enjoyment. Check them out!

Since it's generally accepted that this Grimlock is a separate entity from FOC Grimlock despite existing in the same continuity; I'm a fan of the theory that RiD Grimlock is just a huge goofy fanboy of the latter - going so far as to give himself the same name and alt-mode in hero worship. This is also why Bumblebee, Optimus and Ratchet don't bat an eyelid - they can see from a mile away this is the case and they just sort of nod their head and let him do what he wants.

Almost completely certain this is not what the writers intended nor will it ever be canon, but I like the idea

It's not over and there's going to be more episodes, if that's what you mean.

The 3rd Season subtitled "Combiner Force" should be airing sometime in the Spring on Cartoon Network in the US (may air slightly earlier in some other countries based on what's occurred previously)

Youtuber Megatron Prime uploaded a new video showing off a studio in the process of creating a spanish dub of the upcoming Robots in Disguise Combiner Force cartoon. This does confirm that part of the series has been created and has been voiced as well, suggesting that the so far unannounced release date should soon be upon us. If you watch the TF screen as well, you can catch a glimpse of Dragstrip. Check out the video below, and stay tuned for the release date!
