Will it make it this time round or will it just be nominated like it's predecessor in 2007? Only time will tell.

TF2 has no chance of winning, and I'm shocked that it was even nominated. The visual effects weren't that great. And since everyone's calling Avatar the Star Wars of our Generation I think it's obvious that it's going to win. Also James Cameron > Michael Bay.
maybe thats why it wasnominated everyone expects avatra to win but if it was nominated fro mlast year it might have won something and poeple in charge of the oscars didnt want transfromers to win anything,
OR
there desperat fro more nominations & they put transfromers in there if you ask me every catargory that avatra is in it will probably win, that harrypotter, or twilight new moon

but considering a movie with terrible effects like golden compass won before, i dont hold out much hope this time. i can't believe all the people saying TF looked like crap etc.. wow, hate the movie itself all you want but thats the one place where it did amazing work.
of course it'll probably go to avatar because everyone seems to be blinded by its "awesomeness". lol

The Golden Compass wasn't a great film (still better than either Transformers film) but the CG animals all expressed emotions and "acted" alongside the flesh and blood people- and not one of them peed or break danced or tried to rape characters with robot tentacles.
The Bayformers just rolled around a lot and looked shiny.
The same goes for Revenge of the Bayformers.
Don't be surprised if the pics this year are:
-Avatar
-District 9
-Harry Potter

Why the hate against Megan Fox? I think she was all right, not good, but definitely not worse than the rest of the human cast.

I would go with the underdog on that list and say District 9 wins this year. District 9's effects does so much in the movie with little amount of money. The CGI that were used were able to emotionally connect the audience with the aliens. The movie was a perfect marriage between live action and CGI.

It may not win, but I do hope it does.

The Fallen Prime wrote:I'm not surprised that RotF is on the list. The effects were better than the previous movie.
There were still less details than in the first movie - in the battle in Egypt, Megatron once runs out of smoke without any sign he was there; also, Megatron fires his fusion cannon multiple times without any kind of projectile/bullet/laser leaving the cannon - all in all, RotF's effects were very weak or blurry.

What movie did you see?

But the oscars are not about rewarding a film which is good. It is about who is flavour of the month and who paid more.
Avatar is a gimmick. There are pretentious promos for that thing on every day on Film4 and doughtless other channels.
Look at the list and think who is most promoted. Avatar.
So yeah the precious Avatar will win probabely.
Harry Potter has terrible effects. It is all unnnesssesery, pretentious blurring that messes the film up.
If you are going on application rather than resolution then it fails massively.
If that thing wins then someone paid a lot of money.
ROTF has some not so good effects but most are well executed.
Avatar grinds my gears.
And if it is Star Wars of this decade then it means it is overhyped drek that will have obbsessed fans spouting over it and more promotion than any other franchise to the point nothing is safe.

I remembered all these things when I first watched it:
-lots and lots of recycled decepticons
-really brightly colored robots
-a really bad shot of scavenger(?) right before he smashes into the bridge
-the doctor "pulling" on Sam's lips at a different framerate than his lips
-absence of motion blur when jet-optimus fights the fallen on the ground
The visuals besides that were okay, but just excessive. They weren't exactly an improvement over the first either. Quantity over quality.
My votes go to Avatar and District 9.

-Avatar
-District 9
-Star Trek
But it did make it for sound.

Loki God Of Mischief wrote:Revenge of the Fallen's effects were mediocre. Especially for all of the hype behind them. None of the characters emoted worth a damn, the fight scenes were clusters or repeated characters, and what should have been a show stealing epic transformation of Devestator ending up being a huge let down. Devestator is arguably the best visual effect for this movie. And he does jack shit other then combine and dig a trench. Just like Golden Compass deserved to win the best Special Effects award two years ago, Avatar deserves to win it this year.
While I agree with you, and apparently this is a non-issue at this point anyhow, someone earlier said that the real measure of the best effects in this category is how the effects work within the overall movie, which means that District 9 should win the Oscar. (Have not yet seen Avatar)
ROTF had halfway finished effects that weren't even worth seeing, honestly. I know, "it's better than G1 could be in 30 million years!!!!!!!1111!!!!!" but hell, half the time the characters were indistinguishable from each other. So, you've seen the DVD 12 times today, and you can tell all the robots apart? Congrats, but I don't think the people voting give a darn. District 9 had clear effects that drove the storyline, ROTF had lame effects that underscored a lame story about an imbecile going to college and his stupid parents eating hash brownies. District 9, all the way.

The movie STUNK all the way, and while I am not an Amish, many scenes were uhhhh "not good" for younger types. Also why focus on the moronic fleshlings? all they do is whine, get high, fix motorcycles, and make the CGI guys jobs easier.
