Also, now we have a comparison shot of MP Roddy next to G1 Rodimus... Using that, can someone tell how tall he will be next to MP Prime???
EDIT: After looking through the seibertron galleries, it looks like MP Rodimus will stand roughly the same height as MP Grimlock in robot mode... I guess no more future MP's will be as big as MP Prime

Edit: What extra's do you think he will come with? I am hoping for the Matrix, sword and shield from the movie (when he was training), saw arm and a photo of Arcee. Ok, the last one was a joke.

And does the big Rodimus gun split into two smaller ones for Hot Rod?

I'm not worried as these things are usually revealed later.
Plus: big f*cking weapons platform is a pretty decent accessory.

The Masterpiece line is mainly directed towards G1 collectors... The Robot and Alt. modes are supposed to resemble their G1 cartoon and toy counterparts, but with modern day technology to make them as accurate as possible. MP Rodimus's Alt. mode looks spot on and now we have a vastly superior robot mode for him compared to his G1 toy robot mode.

But now i'm hoping and have more time to think about it ... it just feels like they've upscaled the G1 version and added articulation.
And that face looks a tad plain. Still, will be snapping him up!

I still need to get MP Megatron, Starscream and Grimlock before I even consider this guy... can't find Grimlock anywhere here in Australia. Megs and Starscream are now hard to come by too for anything less than all the gold in Fort Knox. :-\
I wonder who Rodimus has on his communicator screen?

Maybe, but one of the designers seemed to indicate it does have a Hot Rod mode at Botcon. Who knows, it might have been cut due to production costs or some other reason, but I am expecting it will do.
MP Grimlock is turning up at TRUs for $150 AUD, but I believe it is cheaper to order him from RobotKingdom.

$69.99 USD before shipping. Still cheaper either way.
Anyway, Rodimus looks SWEET!

The trailer for Convoy was a simple upscale but at least Rodimus is getting a little bit of redesign. I still love it. The large gun pose looks awesome. I am also certain that the gun splits in two (there is a gap in the middle) to give Hot Rod his dual guns. All in all, after the barrage of seekers we have had in the line, I am glad we are getting a new mold and the fact it is Rodimus Prime makes it all the better. I look forward to January.

I told you. Back when he was first announced I said he'd be no taller than Grimlock or the Seekers but CP was all over me for being sarcastic.
Posted by Convotron on August 23rd, 2010 @ 6:01am CDT
As far as size, I think that from a functional standpoint, being smaller than MP Convoy/OP is a good thing. Even without diecast metal content, figures of such large stature are difficult to stay posed without multiple ratchet joints. Being at MP Grimlock's size makes the figure manageable for long term posing and still makes the figure large enough to look great on display.
Aside from the ability to be Hot Rodimus and Rodimus Convoy, I don't expect or wish for any other gimmicks. As DavidT said, the MP line is aimed towards G1 fans. The MP line is all about taking G1 toys and making contemporary "masterpieces" in TF toy form. The only exception is MP Movie Starscream and to be honest, that's not a proper MP as far as I'm concerned as it's a repainted mainline toy.

I stood my g1 roddy next to my mp prime and I gotta say, hes gonna be shorter then op, but not by much. definatly bigger then the seekers, looks like rodimus will come up to primes shoulders.

I guess they have redesigned it a little. I also think they should have given it a few more features to set it apart, but I guess the main figure is the real draw, after all.
No sign of the Hot Rod mode, eh? I hope they're just waiting for the big reveal.
Posted by dragons on August 23rd, 2010 @ 9:20am CDT
I believe that this figure is both Rodimus and Hotrod because in robot mode there are wheels seen on the inner side of the legs, and in one picture of the trailer in battle mode the the corner of the wheel is seen if you look closely.
maybe or it possible added feature they added to mp figures mp prime has flip communitator on arsm g1 figure does not starscream rotate his engine turbines flip cockpit window opennose cone to many added options on the 2 mp figures for those to name it is possible or it could be that you caould display in car mode without trailer combiner to so he could roll on 4 wheels unlike g1 version that could not unless it is attached to his trailer i am scheptical on hotrod/rodimus theroy until there is proff viscal picture prrof

Same. I'd say roughly a head shorter than OP. Possibly a tad taller than grimlock, but it's hard to say.
And, though it's anyone's guess why they'd still be hiding it,it does seem to have extra bits a rodimus convoy doesn't need. Someone has already pointed out the wheels at the back of the lower leg, and from pics on the TFW board it also has 'rods' there as well-all off the 'convoy' rods on vehicle mode are on the trailer, so these could be for the hot rod alt mode. Plus there is some stuff hidden in his back. Also-and yes, I may be seeing what I want to see-but does it look like he has double knee joints to anyone else?? This may be for extra posability but maybe the joint compresses into the leg to make him slightly shorter for hot rod?

it will definitely be on my to buy list together with the recent waves of generations/classics as i'm a big g1 nut.
i just received mp grimlock this morning and am quite happy. I feel he could've been larger in robot mode when compared to optimus and he was very close to his original toy both in dinobot and in robot modes. Which is not necessarily a bad thing considering the original toy was one of the few really good g1 toys. However after the huge improvements that were prime, megs and the seekers, one always hopes for a bit more. Now i can justify having sky lynx mingle with my classics... now i need predaking...
with rodimus.. well he'll literally be in my mp optimus' shadow it seems. I had the original toy when i was a kid - bought him without watching the movie and couldn't quite understand what his bio was going on about.. leader?!?! i thought ultra magnus was the new leader. The catalogue leaflets said so too... magnus and galvatron.. maybe someone writing the movie didn't get the memo.
he was a fun toy and he's still in good condition tho he's one of the few i keep in vehicle mode.. cos his robot mode was always a bit more rubbish than the rest.

I see where you can see that, but I think it's because the legs fit in between the trailer and they added wheels to help make them roll with it. The trailer itself has wheels but so do the legs that fit under it simply to make the whole thing more mobile and easier to roll.
Doesn't the original Rodimus have wheels too?

However the FP Protector version is just too cool to pass up and will definitely satisfy my Rodimus fix for a while.

Not always, Optimus doesn't have roller and Megatron doesn't have his stock and silencer. Rodimus never even used the weapon platform in the cartoon did he? It seems like a feature best left forgotten to me. Like I said, that extra mass would have been better to make the bot mode bigger.

They do now. Yes, they're extra accessories to be bought separately, but whether that was Takara's plan all along or not, I don't know. So Rodimus should have that battle platform. It does seem to be just an improvement on the G1 molds, which does indicate that Takara has the G1 line in mind, and therefore collectors of the G1 stuff.

I never saw it. When I first got the G1 toy and folded it open, I thought "what the hell?" but truthfully, the G1 Rodimus toy was crap, even though I like the character. He deserved a much better figure, and now he's getting it. And whether he had a Hot Rod mode or not (which I hope he does) I am getting this. I am satisfied with the US version of Prime and Grimlock, but I'm getting this as soon as the Japanese version hits the market.

MP Grimlock was a huge disappointment because of that.
The sculpt is pretty good but his face is too long and has that constipated look. I also don't understand why the trailer's back part looks so odd.

Both those are 3rd party items which Takara has nothing to do with. Takara has had no plans of releasing those add-ons thus far.
However I think its good he gets a battle platform instead of an empty box. Like the Titanium Rodimums proved its very hard to incorporate the trailer and have it look good.

No need to get testy. They've left out things that were in the cartoon AND toys before. The first MP Optimus didn't have the trailer at all. Why keep the gun platform when they could make the figure better without it? I'd rather they keep it closer to the cartoon and make the best figure possible than holding onto a bad idea just because it was on the toy. That would like if they made MP Optimus and Starscreams fists removable, or Giving Megatron a trigger for a crotch. If anything the MP line only follows the cartoon and not the toys.

They probably didn't leave the trailer out cause they can no longer use 'Hot Rod' anymore. He's known as 'Rodimus' or 'Rodimus Prime' now... Having Rodimus without the trailer would probably make the figure to small or less desirable in the MP line and it may be hard for them to just sell a trailer byitself later on... there's still the possibility we will get a 2-in-1 with the MP Rodimus. They are releasing him with a trailer because that's what they decided would profit best for them.
They don't have removable fists or trigger crotch because like I said, these are modern day versions of G1 characters with modern day technology used in their designs. G1 toys were inferior in robot mode because they focused more on their Alt. modes... Now we are getting figures that are more accurate to their cartoon robot and Alt. modes, without sacrificing either form, hence MASTERPIECE... Obviously there was no way to incorporate Rodimus's trailer into his robot mode without severely stepping away from an accurate robot mode, so they did like the G1 toy, and there's nothing wrong with that.
We want them to be more accurate to the cartoon as much as possible, but sometimes they are probably gonna have to borrow designs from the G1 toy.

Of course, we now really need an Ultra Magnus armour set for MP Prime, or else poor Roddy will have no-one to whine to.
