Power of the Primes was a pretty short line, and many thought Optimal Optimus and Novastar were going to be the last figures of the line. But new listings on Midtown Comics tells us otherwise. These two listings use an interesting sub-title: "Select Series." Even more interesting: the two characters themselves. We have Red Swoop and Ricochet. Red Swoop seems to be a G1-toy redeco of Power of the Primes Deluxe Class, done up in the same colors as the one in the original stock renders for the figure. We also speculate Ricochet will be a redeco of Power of the Primes Deluxe Class Jazz, maybe even come with one of the new Battle Master figures.

The Red Swoop listing can be found here.
The Ricochet listing can be found here.

Hmm. If these prove real, I'm gonna need to rethink my CW/UW/Potpie Combiner plans to see if I can fit them in somehow, which there is a possibility since I've given up my plans to make a definite Magnificent Six survivors combiner out of Inferno.

If it's true we're getting Richoet/Stepper, I might actual retire my United Jazz from my Classics shelf and replace him with his Power of the Primes self. I like traditional mold-mates from G1 to match each other in my modern displays, so if I can get a "PotP" Richoet to go with Jazz, I'll be set. I love the RtS/United Jazz mold, but it's just getting to be too big compared to recent figures. He'll dwarf even Siege Ironhide and Ratchet, unfortunately. It's time to downsize to a more modern scale friendly version of Jazz. At least PotP Jazz is still a pretty good figure, and it's got an more cartoon accurate robot mode what with the lack of door wings.

This also gives me some hope that, through this so called "Select Series" line, we might get Greenlight and Lancer combiner limbs (probably from the Moonracer/Firestar mold) for Elita Infin1te, and if we're REALLY good, maybe Buster and Hydra repaints from Dreadwind and Darkwing to go with Megascream. I hope this is real.

Do keep in mind it could just be these 2 as they were "teased" via packaging, with Ricochet possibly being Elta Infinte's right leg and Swoop being red in his render.

Well, Elita-Infin1te will be officially complete if true, as her art shows a dark grey leg using Jazz' design:

You can barely make it out. Also, toy Swoop head or bust!

YES YES YES!!!!! PotP may have a little life left. Just enough *hopefully* to finish those combiners. Though a Red Swoop holds no interest for me (unless it can somehow be head cannoned as a different character), but Riccochet definitely does. I was 5 Heroic Deluxes way from perfect completion, now It's down to 4. Today was a good day. 8-)

Optimal Optimus: Yes, please, THANK you, this is a load of rubbish that the FAN-VOTE Prime is so impossible to find here in the US.

Red Swoop and Ricochet: That's...really interesting, if that's true. It seems really likely to be true, given we already know that the toy-accurate Swoop head exists and the art for Elita-1's combined mode has had what appears to be a Ricochet on it from the start. I am really curious now though: Are these figures going to have different accessories than Swoop and Jazz, how exactly are they going to be released (are they exclusives?), and how many other previously unreleased PotP tooling remnants are going to see show up in this "Select Series"?

As both figures are at the same pricepoint I guess both come with a Battle Master or none of them.

Maybe he's the additional figure for Red Swoop if Ricochet gets a Battle Master. But is that possible at this pricepoint because Arcee's, Grotusque's, Blast Off's, Repugnus' and Counterpunch's pricepoint has been at $25 and they only came with a Titan/Prime Master? And I know they also had better paintjobs.

ausbot wrote:I hope they finally release the demolishor headed onslaught.
That would be nice but I still want a War for Cybertron (2010 game) Demolishor. Would be awesome if they release him in the new WfC Trilogy.

Now that I have Blue Swoop, not sure I want to double dip on Swoop. Richochet could be tempting. But as someone else said, not quite ready to give up my RTS Jazz, even if the tampos are rubbing off.

Coptur wrote:If they do any Armada characters i would prefer they do a fresh take on the original designs and not just stick their heads on older moulds

Fresh Takes mean all new molds which mean far higher sales figures to break even than an Exclusive is going to bring in. We know about Demolisher because we have seen Demolisher. When they made the head for Onslaughtm they made the head mold for Demolisher as well. It already exists, its a matter of whether Hasbro follows through and uses them or not.

But he comes with a cartoon-accurate Repugnus head as well as TR Ptero comes with a cartoon-accurate Swoop head. Or the Mini-Con they released in G1 Swoop colors in an Evolution 2-Pack together with AoE Strafe for the movie line. Those actually make sense.
I mean of course it's not totally impossible but just because both are Pteranodons? That seems a bit too mindless to me. I would except that of a kids toys line but not for the stuff meant for collectors. Or at least not without a good background story but I don't think they'll do that just for a minor recolor.

Mine were. A minor repair, but not necessarily an easy one. Just took some slightly scary pushing and twisting to get those mushroom pegs to slide out. Not to mention correcting the position of the front fork was a bit freaky. It's turned 180 so it fits in the blister. The plastic is soft and should be handled delicately.

I bought 2 more Wreck-Gars for my brother and another friend, and their elbows are on the wrong side too. I'm guessing this is a widespread mis-assembly.

What's with all the factory errors/mis-assemblies lately? :???:

I just wanted to thank you for the insight you gave on the fix. I am an amateur when it comes to taking apart/putting together. I had 2 Wreck-Gar to fix and 3 of the 4 mushroom pegs were fairly easy. The last peg was hell on earth, my thumbs are still stinging. Thankfully I managed to fix them with very little issues. The ratchet on one arm is a little loose but overall it's good. I used my CW Groove as a reference point. Thanks again.

Any advice on getting those mushroom pegs out? The ones on my Wreck-Gar won't budge.

I pulled the entire arm off the ball joint then twisted the mushroom peg as I pulled it out. Still very tight and expect dents in your fingers.

It's purely aesthetic, so don't sweat it too much if you can't get them out.

It's an excessive amount of Voyagers that got us out of balance in the first place. I love this "Select" idea, but if there are going to be any more future releases, we need more deluxes, or failing that, a box set of an entirely previously unreleased combiner.

Pretty much this.
I had the thought afterwards, that maybe you could use a book or something hard and flat that can lift the arm off the table. Place the shoulder piece on the elevated surface peg slot down, with the elbow hanging over the edge. Stand over the pieces. Hold the shoulder with one hand while pushing down on the elbow with the other. The raised surface could act as a sort of fulcrum and might make it a little easier.

Hope that made sense.
But, yeah, expect some dents in your fingers.

I don't know yet what I'm going to do with red Swoop, but I hope ToyHax makes a Terrorsaur decal set for him so I can Stick him on Starscream with Blackwing and Dreadwind (and Amazon Blast Off for now).

And I'm not seeing Ricochet on Elita Infin1te. I see Jazz clearly on the left leg and an indiscernible gray blob on the right that I think is supposed to be Blackwing. What am I missing?

But you need the ProMaster in the Arbor to fill out the helmet. Otherwise it's just a big empty space. Well okay a small empty space, but still I don't even like the guys, but if we're going to have a Wave Rider or over there better be a Wave Rider in it.

That's some amazing auto correct right there.

I'm fine with the armor just being his gun. I imagine most people buying this will already have a spare Prime Master to stick in there from the various exclusives. Since Hasbro definitely wouldn't give us both the PM and the armor I'd rather have the armor alone over another clear PM.

I've got something similar in mind for if/when we get Select Series Ricochet/Stepper. PotP Jazz has white hands when they should be black, likely based on how Hasbro laid out their gang molded parts for the figure. Ricochet/Stepper should instead have white hands, but if he is produced the same was Jazz was, he may end up with black hands (the plastic colors for the molds would just be reversed from Jazz to make Ricochet/Stepper). The interesting thing about the PotP Jazz mold is that the hands are articulated, attached to the wrist of the forearm with a mushroom peg. The articulation is useless, because the car paneling on the outsides of the arms blocks most rotation of that wrist joint. However, it will allow me to pop the fists out and swap them between the figures, making each a little more accurate in terms of color layout. I've also got some plans to swap out the white square peg of the combination joint in Jazz for a gray one from another figure, again to give him a more cartoon and toy accurate color scheme by making his abdominal area gray/silver instead of white.

That black thing on the left has detailing similar to Jazz' car mode as a leg. And that "grey blob"... Moonracer's side art of Elita-Infin1te show that arm to carry her colors.

Man, if these come, they are really gonna throw off my combiners. It'll mean having 2 spare limbs, and honestly red Swoop and Wreck Gar would be the spares. Ricochet would go with Jazz, the girls, and Inferno to make Infernocus, or maybe Artfire-tron (that one needs work). Maybe I could get 2 Swoops and replace my custom Sunstreaker and Prowl on Magnaboss, or just use Wreck Gar on Magnaboss too, and then remove the stickers from Sunstreaker and Prowl.

You may not have to. Jazz has these mold colors:

- White
- Clear
- Black

While any given Deluxe toy has 4 to 6. One color may have been doubled (maybe a shade off), so we may see 4 colors, or a different distribution with Ricochet.

People have talked about the alternate head on Hun-Gurr's mold, the one his own head was 'shopped over. I've seen some speculate Snaptrap... but what if it's Inferno's? Because Inferno comes with redecoed Abominus feet, and the Prime Armor feet and voyager heads seem to share sprues (A sizable amount of Elita's paint budget went to painting black over the base salmon color).

In the past few years, Hasbro has given us Overlord, Super Ginrai (a.k.a., Magnus Prime), and not one but TWO versions of Metalhawk. Japanese G1 characters are definitely on Hasbro's radar.

Just curious how it is going to throw your combiners off? Did you miss some figures? Or collect TFSS or UW variants too?

Just wondering because if you collected all the mass release figures (including exclusives) until now, you should have "full" teams of decepticons (multiples of 4) and 2 spare autobots (right now Rook and Alpha Bravo for me).

I'll list mine off here:

Superion: Silverbolt, Air Raid, Firefly, Skydive, Alpha Bravo, Powerglide (never wanted nor got Slingshot)
Menasor: Motormaster, Dragstrip, Dead End, Breakdown, Offroad, Blackjack (never got nor wanted Wildrider, found a spare Dragstrip with no accessories and missing a wheel for $2 at a parts swap, one on Menasor, one elsewhere to be seen)
Defensor: Hot Spot, Blades, First Aid, Streetwise, Rook, Groove (never got deluxe Groove, never really wanted him despite opportunities even a few months ago)
Bruticus: Onslaught, Swindle, Brawl, Vortex, jet Blastoff, Shockwave (I did get Prime Wars Blastoff, to be seen elsewhere)
Lost Lightatron: Cyclonus, Hound, Trailbreaker, Smokescreen, Mirage (all from IDW Lost Light)
Optimus Maximus: Battle Core Prime, Prowl, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack
Magnaboss: Silverbolt, Ironhide, Prowl (all done up with the Botcon stickers), custom Prowl II and Sunstreaker (with some admittedly crappy stickers but they have worked)
Computron: Hasbro boxset
Victorion: Hasbro boxset
Liokaiser: Hasbro boxset
Volcanicus: Grimlock, Slag, Swoop, Sludge, Snarl
Abominus: Hun-Gurr, Rippersnapper, Blot, Cutthroat, Sinnertwin
Megascream: Dreadwind, Darkwing, spare Dragstrip, Prime Wars Blastoff (the latter 2 make good legs together)
Infernocus: Moonracer, Novastar, Jazz, soon to be Wreck Gar

Spare torsos: Elita 1, Sky Lynx.

I never got any botcon or collectors club related limbs, nor any Unite Warriors ones, though I regret not getting Grand Galvatron.

If I could get older UW or CC figures, I would like to have Terrorsaur and Fractyl or Tigatron and Unit-3 for Magnaboss, and Impactor and SG Starscream cause I love the Rook mold (really needed to get more of him) and I love Shattered Glass. I don't regret not getting Predacus or the whole of Wreckage, but I did like that Toxitron look. Didn't really like Counterpunch or Bluestreak though.

So these 2 kinda throw a kink in there considering with Wreck Gar coming I had all the numbers figured out, and even if I display figures by themselves, I like to have the chance to form a nice even number of combiners with no extra limbs.

I hope this is real.

Do keep in mind it could just be these 2 as they were "teased" via packaging, with Ricochet possibly being Elta Infinte's right leg and Swoop being red in his render.

Hydra and Buster are more likely to be an LGEX set if they happen, what with being Masterforce characters.

In the past few years, Hasbro has given us Overlord, Super Ginrai (a.k.a., Magnus Prime), and not one but TWO versions of Metalhawk. Japanese G1 characters are definitely on Hasbro's radar.

If they're more than redecos, then chances increase. Ricochet has been integrated in a sense, so he gets a release now and again :)

Because Inferno comes with redecoed Abominus feet, and the Prime Armor feet and voyager heads seem to share sprues (A sizable amount of Elita's paint budget went to painting black over the base salmon color).

We know for a fact that Inferno's head is tied to his mold, not his Prime Armor, since it's an unused part of the mold from Combiner Wars.

Prime Armors do share plastic colors with the figures they come with, but they're their own separate set of molds AFAIK. In fact, the hands are a single set with the thumbs, fingers, cover and peg shared throughout with only the palm switched out when needed, and the feet are another set.

Speaking of switching out, Inferno was planned with Hun-Gurrr's feet and Enigma, but he got Starscream's feet instead.

Wolfman Jake, of that lot Overlord is the only one who was a regular release, probably backed up by his Westerm presence as a major character in the IDW comics. The first Metalhawk was a convention exclusive (as was the Fire Guts Ginrai redeco of Classics Optimus Prime), and the Titans Return release was similarly exclusive to a special set alongside "Magnus Prime". I'll agree that they're on Hasbro's radar, but there's a limit to the extent. On the other hand, they are digging up Ricochet/Nameswapped Japanese Diaclone-mold-retool Targetmaster: Porsche Type (I wonder if Takara will ever go and fix the names, but I somehow doubt they will; they haven't done it with MegaScorpoZaraNok and he was a show character) so who knows...

Emerje, is this absolutely certain? I never saw the confirmation myself so I was wondering if this was one of those "Things everyone knows" or if we'd actually had it in writing/photography.

I may have you both blocked, but I can still check on what you're saying by loading the topic in a browser where I'm not logged in. Be nice if the "Display anyway" button worked, I admit, but that's never going to get fixed.

Inferno is indeed tied to Hot Spot, in fact before PotP confirmed it he has "leaked" in a sense by one of FunPub's Club stories, which has no shortage of so-called virtual redecos, even more so with unused tooling. Hoist out of CW Trailbreaker is another example, a redeco of them was even planned for a BotCon. Gotta love insider info.

Yeah, thanks to Fun Pub and RoboCon, we were able to learn about the likes of Hasbro-made CW tooling for Ratchet, Reflector, Counterpunch, Nemesis Prime (released as Toxitron instead), Inferno, Hoist, Sideswipe (just a straight redeco of Breakdown), Ironclad/Ironfist, Wedge, Heavy Load, Hightower, Grimlock (who presumably would have been renamed), Scoop, Quickmix, and Landfill all before Hasbro ever (or in some cases never) revealed them.

For the uninformed, those are the alt heads for the CW Constructicons, which are all Car Robots/RiD 2001-based, outside of Scoop and Quickmix.

It would be easier if you just unblocked me. :-D As far as I know the only reason why you blocked me was because you got tired of debating a potential Thunderwing figure for PotP that never happened. I would have dropped it if you had just asked.

If this "Select Series" is more than just Red Swoop and Ricochet, and it turns out to be a way for Hasbro to just put out unreleased combiner mold toolings, this is the next figure I want them to release in the Series. I still really want a new Ironfist, and I think that the Rook mold would work for him. Plus, a good old CW HFG could be used to approximate his trusty Lightformer cannon. It's probably not going to happen though, especially since the only "Select Series" figures we know of are PotP molds and still labeled as part of PotP, which Ironfist would not be, and we don't even know if there are more figures like this coming after those two.

...I hope there are though.

mordhelm wrote:Just curious how it is going to throw your combiners off? Did you miss some figures? Or collect TFSS or UW variants too?

Just wondering because if you collected all the mass release figures (including exclusives) until now, you should have "full" teams of Decepticons (multiples of 4) and 2 spare Autobots (right now Rook and Alpha Bravo for me).

I'll list mine off here:

I know you didn't ask, but I'll list my "Grand Plan", for 30 unique combiners. Keep in mind I don't have all of these, but I have most. Also ALL have a 6th legends class member (except Devastator and Predaking), which I wont list at this time, just for simplicity sake.

"Heroic Combiners"
1. Superion (UW01)
2. Defensor (UW03)
3. Convoy Grand Prime (UW05)
4. Optimus Maximus (CW Battle Core Optimus Prime, Alpha Bravo, Smokescreen, G2 Ratchet & (missing 1))
5. Victiorion (CW Box Set)
6. Wreckage (TFSS 5.0 & 6.0)
7. Mangaboss (BC2016)
8. Betatron (CW Computron Box Set)
9. Computron (UW08)
10.Lynxmaster (UWEX)
11.G2 Superion (CW Box Set)
12.Modulus
13.Volcanicus
14.Elita-Infin1te (Elita-1, Moonracer, Novaster & (missing 2))
15.Infernac (Inferno, Jazz, Wreck-Gar, Riccochet & (missing 1)

"Evil Combiners"
1. Menasor (UW02)
2. Devastator (UW04)
3. Grand Galvatron (UW06)
4. Bruticus (UW07)
5. Grand Scourge (UW EX Grand Scourge, Offroad, SG Ratchet, CW Blastoff, CW Vortex)
6. Megatronia (UWEX)
7. Baldigus (UW EX)
8. Thunder Mayhem (TFCC 5.0)
9. Predacus (BC2016)
10.LioKaiser (CW Box Set)
11.G2 Menasor (CW Box Set)
12.G2 Bruticus (CW Box Set)
13.Predaking (PotP Box Set)
14.Abominus
15.King Starscream (PotP Starscresm, Dreadwind, Blackwing, BC2016 Terrorsaur & GL Starscream renamed "Sunstorm")

This plan successfully integrates every truly unique combiner used thus far from this system, however as you can see, there are 4 heroic missing deluxes to attain the symmetry I desire.

That's a pretty cool way to do it. I kept my teams mostly "standardized".

Superion: Silverbolt, Slingshot, Air Raid, Firefly, Skydive
Defensor: Hot Spot, Blades, First Aid, Steetwise, Groove
"Nova Maximus": White Prime (as Nova Prime), Ironhide, Mirage, Prowl, Sunstreaker
Sky Reign: Sky Lynx, Wheeljack, Hound, Smokescreen, Trailbreaker
Victorion: Box Set
Betatron: Hasbro Box Set (Scattershot = Scattorfire, Afterburner = Road Rocket, Lightspeed = Aragon, Nosecone = Zetar, Strafe = Cromar)
Computron: UW Computicon Box Set

Volcanicus: Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl, Swoop
Firestormer: Inferno, Rook, Alpha Bravo, Wreck Gar, Jazz
Elita-Inf1nite Team so far: Elita 1, Moonracer, Novastar

Menasor: Motormaster, Wildrider, Dead End, Breakdown, Dragstrip
Bruticus: Onslaught, Blast Off Shuttle, Vortex, Brawl, Swindle
Abominus: Hun-Grrr, Sinnertwin, Cutthroat, Blot, Rippersnapper
Liokaiser: Hasbro Boxset
Megatronia: UW Boxset
Mega Starscream: Starscream, Dreadwind, Blackwing, Take Off (Jet Blast Off), Offroad
Ruination: G2 Bruticus Boxset (for now, but plan on getting UW boxset at some point)
Devastator: Hasbro Boxset
Predaking: Hasbro Boxset

Spare Torsos: Optimus Prime (who I will probably retire), and Cyclonus (had hoped to get a Grand Galvatron, but that appears to no longer be a possibility).

So right now the Select Series would help round out Elita-Inf1nite for me. I would move Jazz and Ricochet to Elita, and Red Swoop would go with Firestormer. I kind of hope this Select Series pans out and throws a few more Combiner limbs our way in general. 4 more decepticons, and maybe give us some more 84/85 cars.

Nothing in-hand. The Ironclad and Hoist heads were shown in the FunPub comics, specifically the 1986 Movie-inspired one.

Nice! I keep forgetting how cool a name like "Firestormer" is, but I still like "Infernocus" I need a cooler one for my Lost Light guys, but no inspiration yet.

I feel that ricochet is totally logical too since in the deluxe department I think Jazz was the only one to not share any tooling with another figure in the line. All the beasts were kind of related, and then there was the Dreadwing bros as aerialbots and the ladies. Jazz is entirely unique with regards to CW/PotP limb bots in tooling and transformation.
