Out of the bluest of left fields, and via site sponsor RobotKingdom.com, we have a news tidbit concerning an exclusive Transformers figure for the chain retailer Walmart: apparently, a new issue of the G1 version of Autobot Hot Rod will make its way to retail!
The site itself doesn't confirm the image used - which is just stock image of the original toy, and which you can also see in our galleries right here - but we do get a shipping date of 1st June 2018, and a price of $35.90 USD. Check out the listing here, and let us know what you think of this surprising reissue in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

Alternately, I failed to detect sarcasm and if so I'm sorry

Cogman was a regular retail figure that just never showed up here in the States. All Hot Rod figures from TLK were Walmart exclusives last year.

I would bite on this one too, especially since I never saw the other one at any of the 10÷ locations around where I live.
The G1 reissue version- definitely bought too

I guess it was just sightings I noticed but I thought robot kingdom also listed it as Walmart. My bad
But I know any figure from age of extinction was Walmart only for some reason. Even down to stinger DLC for the games.
Walmart gets a lot exclusives. Maybe not transformers so much but a lot of Marvel Legends and Star Wars 3.75 black series are exclusive ever since Force Awakens have been

I wonder if it will be a platinum release or what banner it will be under.

I meant like....walmart exclusives that actually made it to the shelves of a walmart?
Anybody (in the US) seen this thing hanging on some pegs ? I havent. Ditto for Cogman. Ill meet you at the halfway...I did see the larger dumbed down version of TLK hot rod a few times. I probably could have gotten either of them online if I had been focused on having them. But for me those two are more impulse buys, not must haves.
Either way, as long as transformers are profitable, exclusives will keep coming. The question is now who will get the contract to sell them? Looks like walmart is stepping up to the plate. And using a G1 mold is a sign that they might swing in the adult collectors direction. You know no 5 year old kid wants a retro hot rod brick. So I forsee the MP line and maybe things like TR arcee/grotesque hitting walmart down the line. So yeah, its all good in the hood.

I dont see how that changes the exclusive status of a figure. Esepcially since we have no indication taht this one will not also simply be available online.

All the Age of Extinction stuff they got. Every toy of Stinger in that line, the weird redecos of molds from Beast Wars and Energon, and more.Rated X wrote:I meant like....walmart exclusives that actually made it to the shelves of a walmart?

Except when the item sells out in mere hours, which is quite often. Still it Makes me miss the TRU Commemorative series. But I'm not going down that road again. Way too expensive to try to get all those back again.

Every Walmart exclusive toy I've seen has been in-store, never tried to shop for one online. The only online exclusives I've wanted (from other sites) have sold out in mere hours. I've been fortunate, but many fans, not so much. I just tend to associate online exclusive with "not readily available" as that has been my experience.

We have been discussing the past few posts specifically about walmart toys that have only been found exclusively online, like 2 of the move hot rod toys. And they did not sell out. All the walmart exclusives in canada sold only on their site have also not sold out within hours. Walmart usually stocks really well if they have an exclusive online. This is not an issue I foresee.

i highly doubt that since there is no documented sighitng of ever fidning the deluxe hot rod at walmart. there were many different hot rod toys, so maybe you saw another one. if you did indeed see the deluxe that would have been major major news.

dang I had no idea, if so I would have picked them up. It was odd though, didn't really fit any other size class, looked just like a bigger cheaper TLK toy.

Only the larger Flip & Change Hot Rod ever made to Walmart stores, the rest of the exclusives were either online-only or found at liquidators.

Yeah because what you saw is not what we have been discussing this whole time.
You saw this
not this, the actual online exclusive
So you never did see that walmart exclusive in store

ok that makes sense. I knew I saw a Hot Rod at some point. They weren't exclusively online.

Me too. This can also make me want to impulse-buy something more when seeing it live. Also, no shipping cost and no customs. I know Americans are spoiled with "free shipping everything", but the rest of the world have to pay a pretty steep price to buy anything online.
Still, it will be a Walmart Exclusive COLLECTIBLE. Meaning online only. Because everybody who shop in person in a Walmart store are savage BEASTS with no manner and go through shelves like a pack of horny rhinos.
I know because I am one.

But is that worth the risk of not getting it at all since due to spotty distribution maybe some Walmarts will get it and yours won't.

Yes, but what if he's both? What if you can find him in stores or buy in on Walmart.com? Just because it is in the store doesn't mean he can't be online either.
And I'm also one who prefers finding in stores. It's more immediate once you find something; sometimes, you need to hold it in hand before deciding to buy it (there are a few figures where I wish I would have done things like this); It's more enjoyable to go to a store and see it and do it that way, also helps keep that physical store around.
In short: show up in stores, but also list online, so people can go both routes. I am willing to wait to see if G1 Rod would show up in stores cause I'm not sure I'd buy him without holding him and inspecting him first.
