It was an experimental style and size limited to Takara that had releases of G1 Prime, Galaxy Force Prime, and a G2 black version of the g1 prime with a couple of new accessories.
Fun stuff. Probably like most platinum releases, it will be more expensive than the actual release is/was worth. I still have the G2 black one up on display.

The Truck mode is not horrible, and but is not the best. Still better than Classics Deluxe Optimus Prime's truck mode though.
Anything over 100 bucks is not worth it IMHO.
Size comparison here, third from the left:

I was thinking more the size of a Scout class, circa the TF: Cybertron line.Kurona wrote:It's pretty much the size of a Cyberverse Commander.

I concur, I have the black version and by current standard, he's about 1/3 the size of a RiD Warrior Class figure. Make no mistake, he's tiny. His transformation is similar to the Classics Deluxe, with a few extra minor steps.

But what really got my attention is the awesome roosterbot logo. None of the others have been that cool.

So far they've used:
- DotM Ultimate (Dragon)
- Energon (Snake)
- MP-10 (Horse)
- G2 Laser (Goat)
- Air Attack (Monkey)
- Hybrid Style G1 (Rooster)
Cybertron Optimus Prime is a possibility for reuse, so is the TR Powermaster or even better, the Ginrai retool, Optimal Optimus maybe, or even the Binaltech/Alternator if they're really desperate

Up until now, the theme of which Optimuses they use for these CNY releases seemed, to me, to be "big Optimus toys". But now, they've gone and used a tiny Optimus toy, whose packaging is only so big because of all the accessories it comes with. So maybe what determines which Optimus they use is the amount of an Optimus toy's included mass that can accomodate for a large-sized box.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:And this may just be me, but them using the Hybrid Style mold seems a bit... I don't know, forced? Like how Hasbro had to use Titanium Rodimus Prime due to lack of an alternative? Just how many suitable G1 Optimus Prime/Convoy molds do we have left for the next 6 years?

The Cybertron, TR Powermaster, and Optimal Optimuses could work for this idea, as well as the RiD 2001 and Armada Super Base Optimuses. For anything smaller, we might have to look for something that has a bunch of additional accessories, or at least one big accessory (i.e. - a trailer), included with it.

Animated Winglblade Optimus Prime would be nice since the original Hasbro release was canceled.

Quantum Surge wrote:Man, I was really hoping it was another MP-10 reissue. Pretty disappointed with the figure choice; sure, the small scale could be appealing, but the functionality isn't quite there for me.
It's still pretty easy to get an MP-10 at this point from several online retailers, there's also the upcoming shattered glass version, and there's a third production run in original colors scheduled for April of next year, so we don't really need yet another MP-10 release.
Besides the Year of the X releases have already used the MP-10 mold. I don't see them double dipping so soon.
If you want an MP-10 there's plenty of ways outside Year of the X releases to get one.
Come to think of it MP-10 is starting to rival Classics Prime in amount of releases its seen.

All that said, he's a fantastic addition to a Legends class collection. But that all depends what he's going to cost. I honestly can't speculate how much this release would though.
I gotta say, this completely normal deco'd figure is a surprise though. I know people hate the weird "Year of" deco's, but I'm not a fan of this direction.

shajaki wrote:I got THS02. It was a lot of hype and a huge let down at the time. Bad truck mode, bulky robot mode (but strangely doesn't compromise posability), and super fiddly. Couple the fiddliness with his super small stature makes him even more annoying. I'd suggest anyone on the fence do their research first.

Robot mode being bulky may be subjective to the individual collector. In my case I don't find the robot mode bulky. Truck mode, I agree with your 100%. No one in his right mid would call the truck seamless. But if THS-02 was made a deluxe or Voyager class (on that note, a few years ago, there were said plans by the KO'ers to upsize him........then silence. It seems that it was not worth the investment to KO upsize him.

If HB does attempt a Starconvoy, maybe they should follow through with Grandus.

I'm really not liking how segmented the chest is either. Makes him look blockier and fatter than it should; I wish they'd gone for a similar stomach to Classics or MP-10.

Why?
All past Year of the X mainliners have been some type of Optimus Prime. (with a few years having a side character, such as Soundwave, and Omega Supreme) Really the only one to be a general reference to the Year of the X it was released in was the Air Attack Optimus Primal Mold used for Year of the Monkey. But even he was an Optimus Prime.
No reason to expect such a deviation from the pattern at this point.

I agree. Not to mention that I thought they missed the boat by not using a Beast Wars mold, or perhaps creating a new one, to honor the Chinese New Year.

I gotta agree. There really was no reason to expect anything other than an Optimus Prime. Even if they're doing another character other than Optimus, they're definitely not making a new mold.

Normally I'd say wait for the companion piece, but I'm afraid Optimus Primal has put an end to that, having none to speak of.

"Yet another" ? This series has only had one other standard G1 colored Prime at this point. Year of the Snake Energon Optimus Prime
The rest have had weird colors, and only MP-10 could be considered G1-ish.
and even then, MP-10 had weird gold chrome and translucent plastic.
G2 Laser Optimus was translucent and candy gold,
Optimus Primal was translucent red and blue and was a monkey.
This is actually the first time this series has delivered and actual G1 looking prime in G1 looking colors.
I can understand not wanting a G1 Prime, but what else but an Optimus Prime do you expect from this line at this point?
This is a line devoted to Optimus Prime.

And that figure was still colored differently from the original figure, more similar to what they did with the Year of the Monkey figure. Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime is the closest they've come to a straight release that's about 98% the same as the original. The chrome seems to be of a better quality, that's the only difference I can see.

However if this shows up on heavy Clearance like some of the platinum sets I might buy it as a curiosity piece.
I think it might have been more fun if it was a miniature version of Year of the Horse though.
