Platinum Edition Reissue of G1 Insecticons and Coneheads, Year of the Goat Optimus Sighted in the Philippines [UPDATED]

Aw sweet! Insecticons and the Seeker Squadron (that's what the Conehead set is called). Me wants some bugs and G1 jets!

Except I already have a vintage Ramjet...

Anyway, laughing at the "5 Steps". And it looks like "Bombshell" now needs a prefix.

Been on my must have list for a while .... And was thinking bout the having a look for them on ebay just the other day... Great timing, however, my priorities are newer g1 related toys.

The coneheads are interesting too... Had two of three as a kid and they haven't survived well... Especially ramjet. Thrust always had a special place cos he was my first decepticon as they weren't available locally. In fact he was my first tf to have proper badges etc as my previous ones were all Italian gig disclose imports.

Yay lets reissue stuff that just got reissued 5 years ago (I am looking at you insecticons). Eh, I might buy these if they come with metallic or some other premium paint job.

A conehead reissue is fantastic news! My vintage Thrust and Ramjet aren't falling apart by any means, but minty fresh ones? Yes please.

May pass on the insecticons. Have a vintage set, the 09 reissues, and the e-hobby Red set that came with Energon cubes. Nice freakin' box though.

Pretty cool! I already have the previous reissue Insecticons and only want Thrust, but it's good news nonetheless. Maybe if it ends up on clearance I'll get the Coneheads.

I'm totally down for these! I don't have any Generation One figures: the closest thing I have is Robots in Disguise Armorhide and Movor, and a pair of KO Aerialbots. Pitiful, I know.

Though the price for the Insecticons is ridiculoso. Approximately $100 for a set of three figures whose previous release nearly five years ago was like what, like $30?

$35, but whose counting? And yeah, if these hit the US, they can't possibly be more than $50.

Ack, those seeker re-issues are going to sink me, aren't they. I have G2 Ramjet (which I just adore!) but I've always wanted a proper G1 Thrust. I almost sprang for the Botcon version right before the Classics release, but it wouldn't have been the same...

... 100$ seems a bit steep for the insecticons. from what I've been led to understand, aren't they fairly small figures? from Skrapnel's gallery shot with g1 shrapnel it looks like they are smaller than any given legends figure

over the last year, i have almost bought the ehobby thrust and ramjet like three times. cheapest of which were 150 a piece. so this news, is music to my ears. also ive skipped out on all the insecticon reissues thus far, so double yay!

It's nice that the Insecticons are getting some more love of late, but this is a puzzling release. We already had a reissue of these guys a few years ago. Plus, we just started finally getting "Classics" versions this past year. We're only a Legends Kickback away from a complete set of the traditional trio. The timing is all very odd.

Yeah, I already got Legends Shrapnel and am eagerly awaiting Bombshell (and hopefully Kickback), so I don't really see a point in, well, worse versions.

I already have the TRU Insecticon reissue so I can pass on this one.
YotG Optimus and G1 Seekers though, I am all in!

I had the G1 Insecticons MIB, but the boxes were old, sold them. Got the past Toys R Us release few years back, very nice but box was not that great. I like this new style box and will make a great display, So will be buying this new set if we get a chance to display and can pull out my Toys R Us set.

They were reissued in the US in mid-2009. By the time these come out in the US, it'll be early 2015. That's gonna be near 6 years between releases, a pretty good stretch!

This set is for a different market, one that may not have received the reissue a few years ago. I don't think this is any odder than any of the other Asia-exclusive and "Year of the..." releases.

A few moths ago I got a very beat up (part of it was the guy that sold me it put a price tag on top of a sticker) vintage Bombshell. So I'm kind of excited for this. But 2 things 1. The last reissue didn't come with the energon cubes did it? 2. Aren't the molds for the dinobots lost? I would have expected them to reissue them instead.

Platinum Reissue Insecticons have been sighted at US retail, and at... K-Mart?! Yes, K-Mart!

Normally Toys R Us would have this one in the bag, since reissues have been their forte for quite some time, but in an amazing first, K-Mart is the newest retailer to be carrying the reissues of the Insecticons. Boasting all new packaging that's keeping in style with the Combiner Wars line, featuring gorgeous new artwork and collectible Energon cubes to sweeten the deal!

They were found by fellow fan and collector, Rob Ware, and since the Facebook group Plastic Crack Fiends is closed to the public, we've mirrored his sighting, below:



Their price is confirmed at $79.99, making this one of the most expensive domestic reissues, yet, and most certainly one of the most expensive reissues of the Insecticons.

80 bucks for those three?! The person who found these is right. I am very content with my Generations reissue that came out at the same time as the Perceptor one a few years back. Though it is nice that they're seeing another release for those who missed out.
Now we can only hope to see other G1 toys get reissued as well during Combiner Wars, and hopefully they are ones that haven't gotten the treatment in quite awhile.

Wow .. that didnt take long and they want to start at $130. Not even close to worth it. But someone will pay it I am sure.

I did not pay that much for the original ones I bought way back in the 80's. Pass for me.

I can almost budget in the rest of Menasaur at that price

K-Mart again?! The closest one to me is in Abeline TX, a 3 hours drive! Yes, they've all but disappeared from Texas... Fortunately there are more bugs in the online nest.

Nice to see they all got there 80's names back though. I bought the TRU set a few years back for around $40. and only difference is the cubes and display packaging . That does not make up the difference though in price.
K-Mart is always over price anyway. They are a dyeing store chain anyway!

That $80 price tag is just stupid.

I thought the $45 price was high.

I'd like a set of G1 Insecticons for my son to actually play with, (They remain 3 of my favorites to this day) but not for those prices.

Nope, only Bombshell did. Shrapnel is now called Skrapnel. Still better than Sharpshot, I'll admit.

While I agree that this sets price point is extremely high, if i didn't own the TRU version this would be bought.

80 bucks sounds like a rip-off...no wonder all the K-marts around here went out of business and closed their doors last year.

That price is insane. $26.67 per figure.

At that rate, the conehead set will probably be $149.99 for three figures.

What exactly is " Platinum" about this release? They don't look like anything special to me at all.
This release would impress me and justify that price point if the set included the Deluxe Insecticons aswell.

Now THAT would be a platinum edition reissue if you ask me.

What's "Platinum" about it is the packaging. Surely that packaging is worth $40, no?

kmart carrying reissues, did not see that one coming. But yeah thats way to much for them, i picked up a 100% complete original set for less than half that on ebay.

I dunno, I just remember it sitting in the clearance aisle for ages because even with a slashed price it was way too high.

Do we know this set is even exclusive for that matter?

Platinum Editions usually are, sometimes shared between a certain brick-and-mortar store and some online ones like BBTS. And yes, K-Mart has carried a Platinum set before: that Voyager Prime and Grimlock 2-pack.

There is some weird stuff happening with kmat exclusives and Walmarts in Canada. KMart had an exclusive, though very lackluster, AOE figure: The 2 pack Smash and Change Prime and Grimlock. However, there are no Kmarts in Canada and Walmart had that exclusive at about half the price. Now, canadian Walmarts also had the platinum predaking as an exclusive in Canada, so I am really hoping that the retailer who picks up this exclusive in Canada is once again Walmart. That could be fun.

And as for releasing the deluxe insecticons, that would not be possible since those toys are currently owned by Bandai, just like G1 Whirl, Roadbuster and Jetfire.

There are three sitting on the shelf of the Goleta, CA (near Santa Barbara) Kmart. ...and I imagine they'll still be sitting there for a while. But just wanted to let folks know (as the product is too new to have been added to "sightings" just yet).

You can always point that out in the actual sightings thread. It's more helpful that way so taht the right people know.
