Fellow Seibertron staff member, Shajaki, found the Conehead Seeker reissues on Walmart.ca and shared them with us once they were in hand. Seems the US can now obtain them through an unlikely source... Target!

Target has posted them online on their website and they're a Target exclusive, priced at $74.99 and it appears they're online only at this point. Doing a store search brings up no results, but that may change in the future, seeing as Kmart sells their reissues in store as well as online, only time will tell.

I think I burned up my keyboard ordering that so fast. Thank you, Autobot032!!! I am really glad I didn't pay almost double on Amazon for these.

Now, where's Trypticon...? *whistles*

What are you talking about?! It's already a walmart exclusive in Canada (it was written in the news article). We've had these guys way before the americans did, to the point where it was beleived most of these platinum sets were made for distribution outside of the states, like GDO markets and Canada.

This is huge news since it means that these sets are getting american distribution (Insecticons before and now the seekers).

That's a really good point. How in the heck can three tiny Insecticons and three Energon cubes be more than three Seekers with more moving parts and accessories?

I don't get it, and I'm not sure it's K-Mart's doing.

To add to any theory you may have, the price of Insecticons in Canada at Toysrus, is at the same KMart price (adjusted for canadian currency).

Anybody seen/heard anything about where to acquire the Astrotrain-Blitzwing set?

There are a bunch on ebay from Hongkong and China, priced very decently. I think that's where Scotty P got his, right?

Yeah me and Chuckdawg both got 'em off eBay. Weird set, doesn't even have a slipcover, just a window box. I love it though.

The nostalgia factor alone is worth the price of admission for this set. I'v been looking forward to this more than Devs. I ordered mine at 3:42 PM Central Time and total cost was $79.68.

Insecticons: 3 different molds
Seekers: 3 of the same base mold

Aside from packaging and the extra 3 energon cubes, no different from the Hasbro pressing a few years back and at a dfifferent price range. Same as the previous HB Commemorative series which were overpriced and gutted due to safety issues also shelf warmed. 3 different molding I infer should be an issue of degradation because all were released in same quantities. Not one mold got pressed more than the other.

So.......another stupid mistep like the piss colored Laser Optimus Prime.....another overpriced flopster.

Either that or a Hasbro Asia executive thought that the world market is the same like that in China where the fans are simply TF cRAzy! You price it high in the Middle Kingdom and you get instant sales. You price it ridiculouly high in other parts of the globe and you get shelfwarmers.

Kind off no longer applicable but the Insectrons were priced much lower than the Seekers when they were sold as TF in Japan back in 1985. Maybe we can speculate that the mold restoration costs for the bugs may also be a factor(?).

Hey, i don't often purchase toys these days but have always loved the seekers. Can anyone tell me if the platinum seeker three pack is still made of metal where the orignal 80's versions were, or are they all plastic? Also, othere than the missles are there any other drastic changes i should knownabout before buying these. Thanks, the product descriptions i've read on store haven't helped me figure this out

They are made of metal like the G1s are. The big difference aside from the missiles are that you have to put the stickers on the wings yourself. I believe they were pretampo'd back in the day.

The G1 reissues making up the Platinum line from Hasbro this year had a puzzling distribution worldwide, with different exclusive retailers in different countries. While many have found eventual retail release internationally, the ever so puzzling Platinum Astrotrain and Blitzwing set did not have a big box retailer distributing it in the US yet. Well, Primeultimus has informed us that Amazon will be distributing this set in the states. It is currently on preorder on the site for $69.99 and free shipping (within the US). The release date given is August 1st 2015.

The last three Seekers, Thrust has his missile launchers gutted. And the decal sheet is slightly different than the original as they are all in one decal sheet.Which is slightly low resolution printing fonts. Aside from that, all are the same.

As an update to the news piece reporting on the release date for the Hasbro Transformers Platinum Edition Astrotrain and Blitzwing set via Amazon.com, fellow Seibertron.com fan Alfonso Chavez has forwarded an email received from the retailer confirming an earlier release date of July 14-18 (instead of August)! Check out some proof below.

I got an update from Amazon about the preorder for the Platinum Edition Astrotrain and Blizwing. The delivery date has been pushed up. Here's a screenshot as proof from my phone. It was sent this morning.

Indeed. I'm thinking $200 might be fair, but would hope for $150. Maybe Hasbro shocks us with around $100

I dont find 100-130 out of line. Predaking was that price and that is as much bang for your buck (if not more) than Trypticon.

(But you do make a good argument. I would counter with the Insecticons and their crazy price, but then you could counter with the Coneheads....)

I noticed he has a sigil on what serves as the magnifying lens. The original didn't

And yes, triple changer he is imho. Transforms from Robot to microscope to mobile weapon/phase ray weapon and back.

TF Fan Kelvin, from the Talk Transformers Facebook Page, has made a quick overview of the very subtle changes found on the recent reissue of G1 Trypticon which was "announced" at SDCC 2015:

* G1 Trypticon's eyes are gold chrome (vacuum metallised), reissue's are metallic gold stickers
* G1 Trypticon's lower ramp has two small 'bumps,' these are absent on the reissue
* Reissue Trypticon has various legal blurbs and logos tampographed on the toy which are absent on the G1 figure

Image

For those wondering, the other use of the mold, Gigastorm, also had gold sticker eyes.

It's good to know... I took the plunge and bought him. Didn't think I'd have had as much fun with trypticon as I'm havin. Build quality is very good, much much better than reissue metroplex.

My main issue with him like so many g1 toys is the accessory storage. There isn't one mode that uses all the pieces at once.

Maybe some enterprising 3rd party developer might devise a way of connecting all his accessories to the tank or dino mode (which I think most peeps will have him displayed as)

I don't think that is possible as the radar array accessories are only functional when you split him open as battle station mode.

Brunt is also like that, splits up during the mode I mentioned.

I bought G1 Trypticon from eBay for $16, so it's hard for me to spend $230 including shipping for the reissue. The guy I bought it from was clearing his attic. I already spent a lot of money on the MP-10 reissue and Platinum Seeker Squadron this week.

If it was 100% complete and unbroken, that was one hell of a lucky find. However, a single lucky find does not make it the norm.

My Hasbro vintage Trypticon has chromed optics. Maybe a running change to the mold.

Yeah my vintage metroplex, uk release had plastic tyres, other releases had rubber i believe as has my encore..

This is my partial solution to trypticon's dino mode accessory storage probs

Ultra Magnus and power glide stole trypticon's machine gun, rocket launcher and radar dishes, point is they use the common (5mm?) post and can be used by many modern figures.
