A lot of fans have wanted a Generations voyager Shockwave for a while, and the new Cyber Battalion Shockwave that just came out (in Taiwan and the US) is really close. But is he close enough? How does he look like in a Classics/Generations collection? Well, hopefully we will answer your questions with this post. Several fans found this toy at Walgreens already (though he is still very sparse and commanding high secondary market prices) and have posted images online. Below you will find images from TF fans LastActionBastard and allew, who posted them on the TFW2005 boards. You can even see a fan made gun mode, which would help fans wondering if such a mode was achievable.

We also found a pictorial review from Robots78, who posted it on TFW2005's boards, and which you can read below:

Robots78 wrote:I found Cyber Battalion Shockwave tonight at Walgreens and figured I'd post some pics and impressions.

Overall, I like this figure. It has serious problems, but the bot mode has such good presence that I can overlook them.

Let's start with the alt mode. It's a sad "spaceship" where the legs are pressed together to form something reminiscent of Shockwave's classic laser gun barrel, while the chest folds down, the head tucks away and the arms just sort of hang out.

There is a little landing skid under the front that I neglected to fold out, which would lift the front end up a bit.

As we switch modes here, I wanted to point out that the instructions are printed on the back of the box instead of being on a separate piece of paper, and they're MUCH easier to read than the gray-on-gray diagrams we get with Generations figures.

The robot mode is much more successful. This is a great rendition of G1 Shockwave. The sculpt is very faithful to the original, the proportions are nice, and the colors are perfect. The few tampos used are high quality, especially his Decepticon symbol, however the paint on the cyclops eye on my copy was a bit messed up.

Yes, the back of his lower legs are super-hollow, but that and the inside of his forearms are really the only hollow parts, which isn't too bad. His lack of a meaningful alt mode helps him have almost no backpack or other kibble.

Articulation is obviously where these Cyber Battalion figures really come up short, and Shockwave is no exception. The knees do not bend. It sucks, but since in the cartoon Shockwave mainly just stood around around saying "Yes, Lord Megatron", I can deal with it. His knees do swivel. His arms cannot reach back because they run into his backpack wings. But there's enough here to work with to get him into some decent standing poses.

The figure feels nice and solid. Plastics quality is good and he feels very durable. Joints were all good on my copy.

Size-wise, he's about perfect IMO. A solid voyager size that's a bit shorter than my Megatron (Hegemon) and Optimus (MP10-V), and a good counterpart for FoC Soundwave.

Transformers News: Pictorial Review of Generations Shockwave from Cyber Battalion Subline

Here he is with some other Shockwave figures. The Cyber Battalion figure is far and away the most G1-inspired. He'll be replacing TFP Beast Hunters Shockwave in my CHUG display.

Transformers News: Pictorial Review of Generations Shockwave from Cyber Battalion Subline

Because of it's limited possibility and weak alt mode, Cyber Battalion Shockwave is certainly not the "total package", and not the voyager-class Shockwave that CHUG collectors have been waiting for. But if you can accept its faults and are content with it pretty much just being a display piece in a relatively-static bot-mode pose, it's a great figure.

Oof, he's taller than the Classics Megatron mold. Not a good sign.

Wonder how he sizes up to either Cyber Battalion Megatron or Titans Return Megatron. Shockwave oughta be more like a head shorter than Megatron, like how the MPs size up to each other.

Went to my only local Walgreens Saturday hoping they'd have him, but all they had was Optimus, Bumblebee, and Jetfire (no Prowl), along with two clone sets, two Triggerhappys, a PotP Jazz and a PotP Slag. I'm a little doubtful they'll get him and Sideswipe with so much Christmas stock still hanging around.

They may cost as much or even more than the figure itself. However, they sure to be well worth it.

If I could have one myself without having to import it, I would mod it using the scraps I have on hand.

In the Nineth pic, the TR Blitzwing (retool TR Megs) is on the far left, and Shockwave looks to be about a head shorter.

the guys in the back are standing on something. The Seeker mold isnt that short compared to him. that photo makes him look taller than he is. Blitzwing is standing on something to elevate him

He defeated almost all the Autobots when he showed up, beat up Megatron and took over The Decepticons. That’s pretty big. The only fiction that depicted him being nothing was the cartoon everything else made in a star. And they depict him shorter usually. About the same height

Why are you equating height with strength? He was always powerful, no one's saying otherwise. But he wasn't a juggernaut in size like Jetfire or Omega Supreme. He was a powerful but normal-sized guy.

Hasbro thinks they're really slick!

If there was a quality Voyager class Generations Shockwave, with articulation that was recently released would anyone care about this hollowed, stick figured mess????!

I love Shockwave the character but they're NOT suckering me as a collector with half-assed, low quality figures anymore!

Friend of the site and Youtube reviewer Cdog Cdog has sent us 2 new reviews he has recorded: Cyber Battalion Sideswipe and Shockwave! We have had a pictorial review of Shockwave, but no video review yet, and Sideswipe has been hiding in the shadow of this seemingly very popular Shockwave and has yet to really have anything posted regarding him. Cdog shows off both figures in both modes as well as transformations and everything else you may need to know about them.

Both retail for around $20 and have been located in Walgreens, so if these figures interest you, head to one of the Walgreens stores and hunt them down! But for now, check out these reviews, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

Picked up Shockwave at my local Walgreens in Peoria, Illinois around 9:30 pm Central on Easter. Had $5 in Walgreen points so got him for $13 and change... He isn't added to sightings or would have posted. Def worth $13 but not retail or Ebay scalper prices.

I got that Shockwave a few weeks ago and honestly, it's pretty close to perfect. All it's missing is knee articulation and it's the perfect Classics Shockwave just 11 years too late.

I'm still giving this a thumbs down because if Hasbro's confident that even collectors will buy this cheap, hollow, stick figured mess then they'll continue making them instead REAL Generations figures with articulation.

I actually don't think hasbro care if collectors buy it or not. This ticks all box for catering to less affluent children, far as they see it, who cares who buys it as long as it's bought. I think we're likely going to get a new Shockwave in the next three years. There's a 1 in 4 chance it will be in the size class you want :-)

Is shutting me up in your best interest...?

I'm just asking for quality figures and if Hasbro is confident that more people will buy half@ssed crap like this then it will impact the other lines.

If you like this Cyber Series, then fine. Dismiss what I'm saying all you like but as far as Hasbro not caring, tell that to them during those Toy fair and Comic Conventions where the Hasbro panel is constantly thanking "US" for our support.

Meanwhile that previous wave of Cyber figures (StarScream and Prowl) have been collecting dust at my local Walgreen's in the clearance bin for over a year now.

So I think it's important to remind Hasbro that even children haven't given up on quality toys as of yet.... 8-)

A child being dragged by his Mom to the Pharmacy section in the back that has to go through the "Toy aisle" that's strategically placed in a section that can't be avoided.

Hell even the restrooms at my local Wal-mart have a gauntlet of toy isles that you can't avoid in order to get there.

Actually on the contrary I was just wanting you to realise who the toys were primarily for, and who they were designed for :-) as I said (and was then corrected by jelze  ) you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the Shockwave you want in the next three years. If you want to campaign for better quality toys then go for it, just be prepared for more costs as the shareholders will not be prepared to lose profits just for our sake

It would be rude if they stood in front of a bunch of collectors and said, "we'd like to thank all of the parents and children out there for making us boat loads of cash!" Of course they're thanking collectors in those cases, but it's a well known fact that collectors only account for a small part of Hasbro's profits. Just look at Generations, are fans really asking for everyone to be turned into Headmasters and combiners? Probably not the majority, but Hasbro knows they have a better chance of cross selling them to children if they make them gimmick and theme heavy, which in turn allows them to make more obscure characters.

You don't have to worry about a popular Cyber figure effecting Generations any more than you have to worry about Studio Series preventing us from getting any more Masterpiece Movie figures. Currently Hasbro likes to think of each line as a stepping stone for kids and sets age recommendations accordingly. They only care about what's happening within those ages, not across them.

3+ - Rescue Bots (specifically they say 3-7)
6+ - Robots in Disguise, Transformers Authentics, Cyber Battalion
8+ - Generations (including Prime Wars and movies), Studio Series, Masterpiece

This is what Hasbro cares about, what works within those ages. They don't discourage people buying outside of them, but they aren't going to dumb down something in a higher age bracket just because collectors liked one figure from a lower bracket. What they might do is notice which character has caught collectors' interest from the lower bracket and work from there because clearly that character is someone collectors want in a higher bracket and with the quality that comes with it.

And this isn't just throwing age ratings at the figures based on the number of parts or anything like that, this was something Hasbro intentionally devised a few years back as a longevity strategy specifically for Transformers. Prior to that Generations and TFPrime figures were all ages 5+. They even make fancy graphics for their investors like this one from last year:

TFW2005-HASBRO-INVESTOR-2017-1106.jpg

Just have to have a little faith, they haven't done anything like what you're thinking before and they have even less reason to do it now.

You clearly haven't read any of my previous post on this matter. I have no doubt that there will be more Generations Shockwave's to follow. I'm even more certain that the next one to be released will be a Leader Class mold just to increase the "placeholder value" of this Cyber series version due to its scale.

This is what Hasbro doe$$$. It's done with adult collectors in mind and it's annoying! :-x

Im good with this shockwave for now. Its voyager. Im just hoping the shapeways guys are working on those knee joints and any other parts needed to make it fully transformable with the new knees.

If this is what Hasbro does then let's hear some examples. When did Hasbro make a figure in an unusual size just because they already made a figure in the appropriate size in an entirely different and unrelated line?

Besides, there are fans that WOULD want a Leader Shockwave to go with Leader Megatron, Soundwave, and the three Seeker Jets. Just because it's not what YOU want doesn't mean everyone shares your feelings.

That goes both ways and doesn't change anything I've stated so far, soooooo.... :-$ :-$ :-$

There's a guy in my State who's good with modding and adding 3P upgrades to lackluster figures. He post on another TF site with pictures that changed my reluctance with TR Galvatron so I did offer to pick one up for him and mail it to him which he'd reimburse if he doesn't find one in the meantime.

The hollowness and the absent knee joints are the deal breakers for me so I'd really like to see what he does to resolve it.

Like I'm going to :-$ just because you don't like what I have to say. You weren't saying it goes both ways when you just said Leader Shockwave would be the wrong scale and Hasbro would do it just to screw with fans.

And you still didn't give an example of Hasbro doing that before, yet you were quick to remove that part from my quote as if I was going to forget. I guess you can't, there goes your whole argument against the Cyber Shockwave figure.

Heh it's funny you mention that bc 2 days ago I was watching TV with Sideswipe in my lap (along with Takara Legends Series Sixshot) & I was thinking that Jazz would be the obvious next choice for the line using that buck/transformation. Another idea I had was if they remolded and recolored the Grimlock (in my Cyber Battalion playlist you can see how awesome he is if you don't know. And every other Cyber Battalion release as well). But I think they need to remolded both heads (dino & bot)

I think Porshe don't like money like Wolsvagen and still refuse to give any licences to :HASBRO: :TAKARATOMY: . So if a "G1" Jazz is made, it will only be a "Porch-ish" car.

If your suggesting Hasbro won't make Generations Classics figures over these Cybers being made exactly how they are mnow, i believe your wrong. Because if they do decide to make these instead, you can bet your ass they will have knees. The knees are missing to differentiate the lines. As it is, they still give them enough joints to pose their legs (ankles hips) & If they put knees in on these hard plastic larger Battalion figures, then the cheaper plastic, articulated figures, wouldn't sell as mu. Hasbro COULD put knees in but they are choosing not to and the ones that DO have knees, it's always a semi loose swivel joint that won't hold poses in most of the surface area that it swivels on. I CAN get poses, but not easily aND it won't hold securely. But if it became one of their main lines they'd have knees. ;)

In the first case, that was one delicious bait.

But if it's the later, I still can't beleives some fans STILL think that way in current year.

Porsche is owned by Volkswagen so....

VW has recently opened up a bit about licensing their vehicles. As such we did get MP Bumblebee, and are getting a VW bug Bumblebee for the Bee Movie. So, licensing Jazz's alt mode does not seem out of the question.

Though the specific racing version with the sponsors may a bit harder.

However, since these figures aren't actually licensed vehicles, there's no reason not to have a Jazz figure simply because Hasbro cannot license the Porsche vehicle mode.

It's not like Sideswipe in this line is a licensed Lamborghini. It's just a generic red sports car.

Takara on the other hand is taking its sweet time with an MP Jazz for some reason.

So that mean all hopes are not lost for MP Jazz. Good.

Also, something like this would be good enough for the Cyber Series:

As long as he looks a little like this with articulation:

I'll be happy. He can hang out with Authentics Bravo Grimlock and PotP Starscream. If only we had a Voyager-sized Bumblebee in his G1 design.

A while back, Hasbro introduced the Cyber Series, a line which aimed to make Transformers toys as big and sturdy as possible while making them as cheap as possible. This line is also referred to as "Generations Cyber Battalion Series" by some fans. Sadly, many of these toys had a limited release, especially in the United States, where only a few made it into Walgreens stores.

There were two Cyber Commanders (well three, there were two versions of Optimus Prime), Leader Class sized figures for about $30.

Well now, Cyber Commander Bumblebee and Optimus Prime are now up for preorder on Entertainment Earth for $19.99 USD!

This is great for collectors and fans for the line, as now they can buy both of them while saving money and not giving in to scalpers!

They'll start sending out in next month, so if you want these guys, better buy 'em now!

Please note that the Optimus Prime on sale appears to be the redeco that's slightly inspired by the movies.
