As you can see from the prototype images, the trailer/ armor set will remain true to its G1 base just as the MP Convoy trailer did. No info has be furnished as far as a potential release date, or quantity that will be available.
Check out the original posting of these, along with what appears to be CG images of the initial armor here.

I hope they add more detailing to it.

It's cool, but I would hope, if there ever was an official release that they could give it some sort of ankle/foot articulation so we do not have the big flat foot splayed apart, most of it not touching the ground if the legs are not straight up and down, etc.
Still a nice piece of work and engineering.

In terms of which upgrade set I prefer, i think they have 2 different looks, this one is more humanoid with G1 accuracy, the other that we have is more new and cybertronian looking.
I hope this is released en-masse because I'm 94.9% sure i'd get it.

but in my opinion the armor needs work:
-the plates over the thighs look cheap and unnecessary
-the head looks flat and without personality, they should actually sculpt a face.
-the missiles look odd.
-it looks cheap and breakable.
-he needs more upper arm, feels like the shoulder connects to the elbow.
-doesn't look very solid in places, the chest seems like its made out of plastic sheets glued together
-trailer mode looks fine, its the robot mode that needs work.

Yeah, I agree completely. This would have been OK pre-City Commander. Now it just looks dopey and awkward. That head is especially bad.
Posted by HighPrime on December 2nd, 2008 @ 8:21am CST
Anyway, A+ for effort. I don't think it looks half bad at this stage; mind you, it's a prototype. If this doesn't cost an "arm and a leg" , I'm in.
Like someone else commented, the only reason I picked up an MP Magnus was in hopes that someone would create armor. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

I would much more prefer if this would be made more up to date, more detail give the figure a bit more hight and having a more modern take on his head, it's just too big of a head.
And giving it it's own hands would make it cooler.
Other then that it looks quite good.

Dead Metal wrote:I have the same problems with this as I have with his MP Prime trailer. It's just the G1 scaled up.
Bingo.
And yes HighPrime, I likely would tell the creators what I honestly think. Simply that as an scaled-up version of the original G1 armor, it's not too bad (except the missile pods, those don't look right) But thats the whole point. Just like a YouTube video when you raise it to fullscreen and it pixalates, If you are making a larger unit so you have more mass to work with, Some people (obviously myself included) would expect to see more done with it. To tell them differently would just be padding their ego, when I would perfer to give them an honest opinion to work with.
Looking at what FansProject has done with the City Commander upgrade for Classics Magnus and their take on "Masterpiece Roller" The bar has been raised on what Fans can expect from 3rd parties, and sadly this just doesn't cut it for me. If I had the Masterpiece Magnus, I would rather wait for something better that wouldn't look outclassed by the badass Classics UM/CC already in my collection.

Are we looking at the same trailer here? it transforms in a totally different way than the G1 version.Dead Metal wrote:I have the same problems with this as I have with his MP Prime trailer. It's just the G1 scaled up.
True, it needs a lot of work to be on the level of the City Commander set, but it's still too early to tell if it's worth it or not.

...I'll pass. Props on the idea though for sure.

G1 scaled up as in It looks just like the original G1 toy wit aded articulation.

UMCC looked awesome in robot mode, but from certain angles in trailer mode the figure looked like shit - ie from the back and from above. the transformation left you with a HUGE piece of kibble they turned into a so called ridiculous "BFG" the figure couldnt even hold without flopping. UMCC is still an awesome toy I gladly paid my 90$ for, but it is FAR from perfect, especially in trailer mode.
the trailer for mp-02, however, looks to be a much more efficient transformer, and a much more G1 accurate one.
I will gladly pay 200$ for a set of this and the original Takara figure, if it will be mass produced, but probably not a dollar more. luckily for my wife, I don't even have 200 cents

Solution: MP Ultra Magnus in stock @ BBTS
http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... bts/14618/
I like this set, and i like that it is different from the City Commander set and that it is very close to the G1 version of magnus.
The City Commander set is meant for the Classics line, and that has always been a revision of the original characters.
The MP line on the other hand is supposed to be a scaled up, show accurate, articulated version of the G1 characters.
I would also like to see some more detail here, but this is a prototype after all. I also just got an email from BBTS stating that the UM I ordered is in.

That aside...it's got potential. I'd be interested in one if Takara never plans on a "Perfect" Ultra Magnus. The trailer mode looks great, it should fit Alternators/Binaltech, just like G1 Magnus could store G1 cars.
We'll see more pics eventually.

it'd be great if H did this, but they'd have to release a US version of MP UM as well and what are the chances of that? They haven't released a US version of MP Prime's trailer either
never had a G1 UM, so if i got the MP and trailer I'd be very happy. but i'm light years away from that in finances right now

I'm really digging this so far, I mean these are just prototype pics. The final poduct may be a lot different, but they are definitely off to a good start. I like the fact that it looks so much like a sized up G1 Magnus. As much as I love my City Commander, there are aspects of this that I like better. The alt mode for example. CC is okay, but it can't swivel at the cab and really reminds me of a garbage truck when attached to Magnus. This version can probably haul at least some of the alternator molds. If this ever actually gets produced and is halfway affordable I'll get it.

That was my thought as well, and the only reason I pre-ordered the reissue MP Magnus. I have no reason to own an albino Prime, but after CC I was hopeful someone would do this. I was hoping it would be FansProject.

On the comment earlier about him needing his own hands, I think those red pieces by the launchers in the front view pic are coverings that go over the MP hands.
Considering that this is a prototype, this set is showing some real promise, imho, and the final product should look a lot better.

You know, the photography just might be making this look worse than it is. The first robot mode picture isn't really stellar; most of the figure is obscured.
Those shoulders tho ... I was pretty dissappointed that MP Megatron lacked the ability to move his arm outwards. Dunno quite how they'd solve it with Magnus here tho.
The one thing they should have taken from City Commander were those ankles. If this had ankles it's be so much more impressive and definately worthy of the "masterpeice" title. Ankles and maybe some bulk on those arms. Compared tot he feet they are too skinny to me.

Dead Metal wrote:I have the same problems with this as I have with his MP Prime trailer. It's just the G1 scaled up.
It can't be just the G1 version scaled up, since Prime/Magnus isn't just scaled up.
The trailer could get away with being scaled up, since it doesn't directly interact with anything but the hitch in Prime's legs. But this needs 10 times the engineering; take, for example, independent legs. Arms that are actually articulated. I think people are underestimating what something like this takes to produce, particularly considering it appears to not be a pieceformer like City Commander. Being that articulated and not cheating by breaking up into hundreds of little pieces ain't no small feat.
Frankly, I think this is quite a bit more impressive than City Commander (who looks like he's simultaneously about to fall over backwards and forwards). But, hey, the more naysayers, the easier it will be to get my hands on one.

but this is a piece-former, the thigh armour are 2 seperate pieces, the upper part of the top detaches and goes on his back, the fists come right off!

Welcome to the site!
This wasn't released because (IIRC) when the final coloured set was ready, it made Magnus look fat and dis-proportioned. It was not what was being shown in the prototype stage at aoll.
