The images come from the official Takara Tomy Twitter feed and feature the Black Convoy/Scourge/Nemesis Prime color scheme on the G2 Optimus Prime mold from 2010's Reveal The Shield, as well as Leader Class Armada Megatron from the currently released Combiner Wars line. (You can see Prime's gallery here and Megatron's gallery here.)
Both figures are Tokyo Toy Show 2015 exclusives and the information pertaining to their limitations and pricing can be seen below:
Armada Megatron is 7,500 JPY ($62.13 USD) with a limit of 2 per person and Black Convoy is 3,500 JPY ($28.99 USD) with a limit of 1 per person.

I'd def choose the Takara on this mold... but still holding out for a MP Galvatron announcement one day for that spot on my shelf.

But Takara's Armada Megatron, however, is a little better looking than Hasbro's.

I was almost going to accuse you of fan-boy cronyism but I went to look at both of them and yeah, I think you're right. The more purple and details in the face really bring out the different look.
Personally, I really like my Armada Megatron. In Fact, he inspired me to watch a few Armada episodes...which I didn't like that much. but I don't think I'll double-dip though. However, I wonder why they didnt do an orange stripe on the horns? That seems like a detail Takara would be all about.

Takara has done a bang-up job. However, considering the price and the limited nature, you would have thought that they could have given him a Targetmaster, or an Arms Micron as leader-1. That's what I am going to give him.
Also, what with Grand Scourge, TFA nemesis Prime, and now this, could it be that this is the most congested amount of Nemmys we've ever had in such a short space of time?

You sure about that? Black Convoy will be an on-show exclusives (like SDCC exclusives are) while Scourge is a TFSS figure. Which one is more rare?
Black Convoy is more accurate to the source material with the added striping, aside, but the TFSS version should be easier to get.

Well dang. I thought it was a general release. Well there goes my chances.

Takara's Black Convoy seems to instead just have solid gray (or bizarrely gray and silver) shoulders instead of gray and black.
I will admit that Takara's has the extra stripes on the side of the truck mode, but it's not a major loss. Nor are the Combatron symbols on his shoulder that much of a bonus since the guy never had those on him outside of scenes toward the end of the series where he was trying to control Fort Max/Brave Max.
And the bright neon teal of Scourge seems to stand out a lot more than the more muted teal on Black Convoy. In fact, while it could just be the image, all of the colors on Black Convoy seem more muted compared to Scourge's colors.

And if that weren't enough we have another Black Convoy (of sorts) lighting up Twitter today, E-Hobby Unite Warriors Grand Scourge! He's shown squaring off against Transformers Masterpiece MP-10 Convoy (Optimus Prime) who has a Reissue due the end of this June. If patient, you can get a TFCC Scourge for about 50 bucks. With the history of Japanese Con exclusive figures have (and I think BC will be popular) I really feel that once it's all said and done he'll cost about 100.
Of course there's time. If you wait, and find that BC is too expensive, Scourge will still be there. I'm not trying to institute panic here

The Scourge version just covered up the shoulder's translucent plastic to make the figure better resemble the character it's meant to represent, since Scourge/Black Convoy did not have red streaks running down his shoulders, but instead had gray ones:
His eyes still have light piping, though.

yeuch
US to Aus dollar atm is not in my favour
US$50 atm is about ~AU$65 with transaction fees, and that's before postage costs, and if I wanted MIB, that's closer to AU$100
JPY3870 is about AU$40, plus shipping, but being physically closer to Japan, postage costs are usually a little less.
So, that's where my money's going atm.... eventually.

Exclusive means limited production numbers. Not that it's unattainable.Rated X wrote:Calling a figure "exclusive" in the age of online sales is a joke.
It's not a second run. Takara didn't make the first one. TFCC did. Completely different entities.Rated X wrote:They need to let it go already. Just call it a 2nd run with minor paint app changes.

In the age of online sales, there is no “different group of people”. When you release a figure, you release it to the world. Every online retailer and their mother has them for sale. (Hence Takara Unite Defensor gift set)
shajaki wrote:By that reasoning, why does Takara release ANY Transformers whatsoever? Everyone in the world should just buy the Hasbro ones off the internet?
In another thread, I stated I believe Hasbro versions only exist to justify Takara’s continued pricey existence for an imaginary market. They all come from the same mold that isn’t even located in Japan. 25 cents worth of extra paint apps and the price doubles. A unified worldwide release would be the ethical solution, but it would not be a profitable one. All this “exclusive” hype is an attempt to make people sell their TFCC Scourge and get the same thing with a bit more light piping and no G2 faction logo. Serious black Prime collectors pay big bucks to get them in every Prime mold. Anybody in Japan who wanted this mold in black already has the TFCC version. Takara is getting greedy here. The reissue should be $29.99 like any other Takara deluxe figure.
shajaki wrote: So EVERY SINGLE PERSON who wanted a Black Convoy/Scourge bought one when TFCC released theirs? Yeah. I'm sure.
There’s still some on e-bay so I imagine the die hards all got theirs. The TFCC version was the real exclusive. This is a slightly modified reissue being dubbed an “exclusive” for pure profit. Im not saying every TF collector has this mold in black, I’m just saying the hardcore black Prime collectors already do.
shajaki wrote: Exclusive means limited production numbers. Not that it's unattainable.
Whats so limited about a reissue minus a few paint apps ? Remember the Asia Exclusive Hot/Rod/Galvatron/Cyclonus repaint set ? Hasbro removed Galvy and slapped rub signs on the other two and shipped em straight to US retail. How exclusive was that ?
shajaki wrote:You don't always get under my skin X, I usually just chuckle at your absurdity. But Jesus man, get a grip.
I think Takara needs to get a grip. The brick and mortar days of exclusives are over. Gone are the Botcon seeker days when snobby collectors got offended when their “exclusive” saw a mass release. Internet sales destroyed the concept of “exclusives” and honestly I’m glad that happened.

EDIT by Va'al - There will be no personal insults, thank you.
Have you never heard of a little thing called shipping fees? Or how about import duty? Not all of us can just buy everything from another country whenever we feel like it.

This is tripe. Japan has an enormous collector's market, and the toy market over there is highly, highly competitive. If Takara DIDN'T make their figures more "collector friendly" they wouldn't be able to compete. Hasbro, meanwhile, sells most of its wares in a very different market that on the whole values quantity over quality. Paint apps actually add a lot of expense to the production of a toy, as metal paint masks have to be cut in order to apply the paint (and that's not even beginning to mention worker's salaries).
They all come from the same mold that isn’t even located in Japan. 25 cents worth of extra paint apps and the price doubles.
See above. Extra paint apps are not cheap.
A unified worldwide release would be the ethical solution, but it would not be a profitable one.
What is "logistics"? What is "licensing"? What is "different markets/safety standards"? And before you hit me with that "the market in Japan is exactly the same as the US!" bullsh*t again, if that's the case then why don't we see things like Soul of Chogokin or Figma coming from US manufacturers?
Japan doesn't have the TFCC. This is the first release of that mold in Scourge colours in Japan. Importing into Japan is expensive so naturally a domestic release- even an exclusive one- is preferable to Japanese fans. Target just gave up Canada. They had really neat exclusives that were reasonably priced. Not anymore. Now I have to buy them from scalpers. Sure, I can still buy them. But X, lemme tell you that it suck a lot to pay double, triple, or quadruple the price for a figure that would have been available locally.
So, yeah. Exclusivities still exist hardcore. And the price suck.

Takara isn't expensive by virtue of being Takara; it's the costs associated with bringing stock into the states en masse. You really don't understand how importing a figure jacks up the cost.
Takara deluxes aren't $29.99 in Japan - they're close to $10-$15. I imagine TFCC Scourge was expensive for folks in Japan to import, so why hate on their chance to own this? Outside of the fact that some people in the States (like me) might prefer the metallic highlights over the matte teal.
