Now Astrotrain needs some paint. He's naked, Takara cover him up!

I'm talking about Astrotrain's face. That's certainly new tooling.
Also:
Look at this and tell me Ravage doesn't have a new head.
You should read his post more carefully:

Two points:
1: That comment was in response to D-max, who (you actually quoted this line) said that Ravage was a straight repaint.
2: I'm pretty sure that the edit to the news post was made after I posted that comment.

Yes, due to many technical difficulties, my post that had that info got devoured, and I had to rewrite parts of it. And I still maintain that Darkmoon is a repaint

Fair enough, but I thought I would point it out for those that don't share your opinion.

And ok, the headmaster was retooled, but the actual large robot face was the part retooled, the headmaster robot mode was not retooled
All is well, just wanted to point that out.

I like the robot mode very much the Shuttle mode isn't fantastic but gains a few brownie points for having a resemblance to a pre-existing vintage Takara Brave toy I guess.
Ravage is OK I guess - the addition of a set of 3rd party rockets will help a lot I guess.
Ultimately I don't have many issues with the design of the Titans Return toys - I do remain wary of the likely high pricing though.
As it stands I'm almost back to being like it was in the Galaxy Force Period - in that it's not worth me buying the Western toys when the Japanese ones cost the same sort of money and have a lot more paint on them or other reasons to prioritise them (like unique accessories in the case of the Headmasters).
Oh and sorry Hasbro but I've decided I don't care what you call them I'm going to call them Headmasters regardless - unless the cartoon persuades me otherwise. If it looks like a duck & quacks like a duck - it's a duck.

Yes, the need to have the headmaster sit in a compartment completely ruins the train mode and the proportions it was goin' for (just look at those tiny doors and walkways - that is an astrotrain that can carry devs )

It's the Titanmaster's cockpit so there's not much they could have changed.RAR wrote:I wish they'd found way to flatten the train mode more in the middle the large tower in the middle is a bit odd looking to me.
You don't get unique accessories. Just bundles with Titanmaster vehicles without their Titanmasters which makes them kinda incomplete like ZeroWolf already said.RAR wrote:As it stands I'm almost back to being like it was in the Galaxy Force Period - in that it's not worth me buying the Western toys when the Japanese ones cost the same sort of money and have a lot more paint on them or other reasons to prioritise them (like unique accessories in the case of the Headmasters).
And they have different headsculpts.
I'll stick with the releases this time because I don't like the Takara headsculpts and I want the seperate Titanmasters.

Devs, the generally accepted shorthand for devastator, referencing the '86 movie where he's chillin' all up in Astrotrain, because, screw physics, or something

Dunno, like guns (since few attachment points look any good) or the hfg from the cw line, you could just put them aside. Not ideal, but a feasible answer.

So when they change modes the Titanmasters appear from nowhere and disappear into nowhere?!
I like it a bit more realistic. And please no comparissons now what else isn't realistic in the Transformers universe.
And you can store the HFGs in the vehicle modes.

Only some of them can look good while doing so. I'm just saying the full on compartment look kinda ruins a lot fo the figures, I mean, look at how megs stands on galvatrons cannon mode, they could've done something akin to that. I dunno man, my problem is that it just really ruins the train look, and that saddens me

Jet, so he is a triple changer who can get around on his own, like how others have tank or taser-skateboard extra modes

As was pointed out earlier to my mistake, Ravage does have a new head despite what the 3D rendering says, as Rumble did.
And yes, there are fewer repaints in this line, but you seem to be missing a big point about the cassetticons and bots: they all share about 3 molds with different heads in some cases. So this argument is invalid, as these guys are supposed to be this much alike. Also, if you look at the larger figures, so far we are running pretty good with repaints/retools. Yes there are some, but we have some good molds coming out and some of the cases actually make sense too.
So don't go bashing about there being repaints. they happen. Many of the characters being done in the legends like are and always have been repaints/retools.

So, I'm guessing you didn't read the part in the news article (and later in the thread for that matter) where I specifically drew attention to the fact that the render uses the incorrect head, and that the new head had already been seen in the Australian Toyfair pics

To me Megs/Nucleon just standing on the cannon mode is just dumb. And I like the train mode very much how it is. To me the cockpit ruins the shuttle mode. It makes it look a bit like a Stardestroyer from SW.

Stuartmaximus wrote:& then you're got Astrotrain retooled from Sentinel Prime, Blurr retooled into Brainstorm, then the Blaster/Soundwave retool/repaints

But again remember: Blaster and Soundwave share a very similar alt mode and robot modes, so that one makes sense. Blurr and Brainstorm are heavy retools from one another, and we already have an original Brainstorm from Thrilling 30. Astrotrain was the intention and we got a bonus Sentinel Prime for the first time from that mold. And so far we have 7 revealed deluxes with only 1 retool, 4 voyagers with only 1 retool, and 3 leaders, 2 of which are retools, and the retools (save Astrotrain) are all fairly extensive. Overall, we are running about average when compared to Thrilling 30, generations, and previous lines.

but
they didn't necessarily HAVE to go that route
coz look back at the G1 figures(Blaster/Soundwave).....those never shared the same mold

So far we've got the same amount of repaints as any other line in the franchises history, and as far as the heads go, they are more akin to accessories then anything else so who cares that they look the same? Only so much detail you could do at that size.
Also end of the day, hasbro is a business, ever thought they may think it's too risky to have no repaints or re tools of any kind in a line? They are in the business to profit, not lose money.

Stripes was created as a new character by Takara in 2012, originating from an early draft of the 1986 movie in which his role was replaced by Ramhorn in the completed film. He is not a case of Hasbro renaming a preexisting classic character.Lunatic Prime wrote:They are both cats and there are enough examples of characters where they changed the alt mode a bit.Sabrblade wrote:Also, to whoever said that Stripes and Steeljaw are the same guy, no they are not. I didn't realise how much of a comedian you were stu, wouldn't open with it though.
Let's see, the seeker trio, repaints then followed up by the cone heads who were re tools. Rumble and frenzy, repaints.
On the Autobot side, prowl and bluestreak? Ironhide and Rachet? Sideswipe and Red Alert?
I'll give you that later years stopped with the repaints but things change, businesses change, economies change. Stop judging today by yesterday's standards (especially if yesterday was over thirty years ago)

Although I'm pleased to finally have a voyager sized Astrotrain for "Classics," I'm not going to get rid of my "Decepticons: Specialist" version of Astrotrain any time soon. I'm slowly warming to the idea of earlier G1 characters getting "upgrades" as combiners or headmasters, but I still want to have versions that are "gimmickless" in that regard as well. For instance, I love the Autobot cars combiners, but I still use the earlier "non-combiner" renditions from Classics/Universe/Generations/Whatever for my displays. However, Titans Return Astrotrain may be the one that gets put in my main Classics display, if only due to better scaling, but that deluxe Classics mold will always stay in reserve in case I change my mind.
It would be nice if they had chosen a different robot form for "Darkmoon" instead of "Infinitus." He just looks too much like Optimus Prime. With how interchangeable the Titan Master Robots and the "Transtector" robot faces on their backs seem to be, I feel like a better solution couldn't have been that hard for Hasbro to figure out.
