Wish Air Raid was called Fireflight. Why Hasbro? Why did you have to change his name?
Posted by phase on October 16th, 2012 @ 12:18am CDT
Kickback, Bruticus, and Magnus are pretty, but after pre-ordering Fort Max I can't afford them. Besides, Hasbro's UM is fine by my standards, because as soon as I got FOC Prime my opinion flipped and now I realize it's actually a decent mold, and I'm getting G2 Bruticus. Also, I think Sideswipe's a little mis-transformed, but that mold's not the easiest to do right.
(EDIT) Actually, the moment I have the money, Kickback's mine. I was looking at TFwiki, and while Hasbro's is game-accurate, this is G1-accurate. And this has beast-mode eyes.

Thank you Takara for the metallic paint. Bruticus looks better than my SDCC version.

This so much! Air Raid was one of my favorite Autobot characters in WFC. Why did Hasbro have to do this and give him a toy based on another Bot?Manterax Prime wrote:Wish Air Raid was called Fireflight. Why Hasbro? Why did you have to change his name?

Bruticus: better colors, although Vortex still has too much red. The individual figs have too many issues (Onslaught's horrible shoulder articulation) for me to buy the set even if I had the spare cash.
Voyager FOC Soundwave is tempting, but it would be a little redundant, seeing as I already own the WFC deluxe fig. I'll have to think on this one.

Black and red are Air Raid's colours. To be Skydive it would have to be black and grey. This version looks sufficiently Air Rad-y to me.

Well the Hasbro version can "be" Fireflight. To be honest these are Aerialbots made from Shockwave repaints so colour inconsistencies are not the worst of their accuracy problems.
Also that giant weapon that comes with Sideswipe makes me feel even more of a mug for buying Jazz.

I mean, I don't want either version to be released as Air Raid because they're Shockwave remolds. I want an Air Raid that looks like the game model, but with them using this mold instead, it diminishes the possibility of us getting one.Diem wrote:Well the Hasbro version can "be" Fireflight. You know who might have made an okay remold for Air Raid? Blastoff. He has those shoulder bits that you could redo into looking like air raid, and he they both have very vaguely similar jet modes.

Though you need to bear in mind that even now, as people complain en masse about Hasbro deluxes reaching the giddy heights of 18 dollars, Takara was charging the equivalent of $25 per deluxe as far back as 6 years ago. You'd hope for a little shiny paint for that moolah.

The other 4 FOC Combaticons are all G1 colors, so Its quite obvious some guy who does video games (not toys) got the wrong info and they rolled with the mistake. They probally recieved a picture of energon Stormcloud instead of Vortex. Takara is known for correcting all of Hasbro's stupid mistakes. Takara even got rid of that crappy SDCC grey on Onslaught and went for a G1 blue not as bright as the Hasbro versions. So why not correct this Vortex too ??? Does vortex have to be the color of warm PISS just because some geek from activision screwed up ??? Im buying an extra Hasbro version and painting him in nobody wants to step up and get it right...

Also I dont suppose you were at Botcon in Dallas at the Hasbro pannel. When the FOC (SDCC versions) slides came on the screen, Vortex got booed while the other 4 got cheered. I heard it with my own ears. The fans have spoken on Piss Vortex.

How do you KNOW this was a mistake? How do you know that Hasbro and/or High Moon didn't just think, "You know, let's give Vortex a new deco to make this version more unique"? You act as if you have inside intel about how Hasbro and/or High Moon think and work, when this new deco could have very well been done ON PURPOSE. You have no way of knowing either way, so you immediately assume it was an accident and declare it wrong just because you don't like it.Rated X wrote:So why not correct this Vortex too ??? And you know what? Now that Onslaught is blue, Bruticus looks wrong now that he has a blue torso. In the game, Bruticus has a gray torso just like the SDCC toy. Onslaught does some sort of color change from blue to gray when he combines with the others in the game, hence why the SDCC toy when for game-accuracy with Bruticus while the retail version went for game-accuracy with Onslaught. At least Takara kept the gray Bruticus head of the SDCC toy.Rated X wrote:Takara even got rid of that crappy SDCC grey on Onslaught and went for a G1 blue not as bright as the Hasbro versions.
Even G1 Bruticus had a gray torso, but he cheated with his being made from combiner kibble instead of being integrated in like on this toy.
Yes, I was there. but not every single last individual in the audience was booing. Some booed, others didn't. I have no inside intel on Vortex but do the math:
FOC Bruticus Video game accurate colors:
FOC Brawl: same as G1 Colors
FOC Swindle: same as G1 colors
FOC Blast Off: same as G1 Colors
FOC Onslaught: A very similar grey to ROTF Bruticus Maximus which was based on G1 colors in general
FOC Vortex: Warm Piss color
Don’t you see a pattern here that just doesn’t seem right for a “wild card” ? Then to top it all off Takara changes Onslaught back to G1 colors to resemble the Hasbro retail version which is basically G1. My question is why not change Vortex too ? You got a G1 vibe going on with a piss arm. I guess this is a sore spot for me because I don’t have a FOC shelf. I have a Golden Age of Cybertron classics shelf with certain FOC molds incorporated as stand ins. I plan to use FOC Bruticus as a centerpiece as the “renegade Decepticons” the Combaticons were referred to as in “Starscream’s Brigade”. So I need my grey Vortex. I might use metallic silver and blue and a lot of gloss on a Hasbro version. That will look nice…
And everyone in my group of chairs booed. Piss color on maroon was just an ugly choice that makes no sense historically or logically. Unless somebody either made a mistake or wanted to be funny.

Because Onslaught WAS blue in the game. He only changed to gray when he turned into Bruticus' torso. Hasbro SDCC went went a pro-Bruticus torso deco while Takra went with a pro-Onslaught deco, thus making Takara Bruticus's torso be less gamee-accurate than the Hasbro version.Rated X wrote:Don’t you see a pattern here that just doesn’t seem right for a “wild card” ? I think an easier way to look at these figures is not to see them as their G1 selves since, well, they aren't meant to be. It's alright if wanted to repurpose the toys as being the G1 counterparts, that's cool. But does it really make that big of a difference for the "Renegade Decepticons" to not all have had the same color schemes as the bodies that Starscream built for them? I mean, is it really that impossible to imagine Vortex having gotten a new color when he changed bodies? I mean, Brawl was put into the gray body of B.O.T. temporarily, but he was still the same guy even though that body he was in was colored nothing like his regular body.Rated X wrote:I guess this is a sore spot for me because I don’t have a FOC shelf. OR unless they wanted to differentiate him from G1 Vortex. None of these guys HAD to be in G1 colors, but some were and some weren't. Why, Swindle was golden orange in G1 but FOC Swindle is tan. And FOC Blast Off is gold while G1 Blast Off was mostly purple and brown. And FOC Onslaught's already got his aforementioned color shifting weirdness between his combined and non-combined forms. The only one whose really colored G1 would be Brawl, but even then it's the wrong shade of green (G1 Brawl was olive green rtaher than FOC Brawl's forest green).Rated X wrote:And everyone in my group of chairs booed. I just watched those G1 episodes
I was wondering when someone was gonna point out that none of them really are 100% g1 colored.......

Im an all or nothing type of guy. Either change them all or leave them all alone. They already got an extreme makeover. The G1 colors are the only thing left that connects them to the G1 names. Take that away, and Hasbro might as well start just creating new characters and forget the homages. Last time I checked FOC was being released under the "Generations" line. Not Bayverse/TF Prime where Arcee is blue, Ratchet is green, Ironhide is black, etc. And even those 3 molds ended up getting G1 color accurate repaints for the fans. Everybody keeps avoiding the question, why not Vortex ???
And Im liking the idea of using the Whirl repaint. Maybe a kitbash with the Whirl helicopter parts with the purple limbs on from the Hasbro version. Maybe some blue dye can even be used to make the limbs more G1. Im feeling it...

Yeah, so? That's an all encompassing line for the various generations of Transformers, including those of today. The Prime First Edition figures were even gonna be released in the Generations line at first before it was decided to give them their own packaging.Rated X wrote:Last time I checked FOC was being released under the "Generations" line.
TF: Prime isn't Bayverse. Every backstory episode it's had has called back to War for Cybertron, which has no ties to the Movieverse.Rated X wrote:Not Bayverse/TF Prime
Ratchet and Ironhide aren't those colors in TF: Prime, and Arcee's pink the Movieverse (her blue Target toy never appeared in the fiction).Rated X wrote:where Arcee is blue, Ratchet is green, Ironhide is black, etc.
Well... maybe they simply don't want to. Maybe they find the gray too drab or boring looking or something. Maybe they simply liked this new brighter deco better.Rated X wrote:And even those 3 molds ended up getting G1 color accurate repaints for the fans. Or maybe this deco came from the Binder and so they had no choice but to use it.
Funny thing about Whirl, he looks more like an homage to RiD Ro-Tor.Rated X wrote:And Im liking the idea of using the Whirl repaint.
