Roadbuster has been desired since G1, especially a complete one due to some of his very small accessories being an absolute pain to keep or obtain, so this is big news for a lot of people. He's a nice G1 update figure that's been in high demand and now, our wait is just about over.
Sky-Byte is a fan favorite due to his characterization in 2001's Transformers Robots In Disguise television show, based off of Takara's Car Robots that had aired in 2000. Sky-Byte was originally a redeco of Transmetal 2 Cybershark, but this time he's getting his own brand new mold!
Gears is another fan favorite, but this time, this little guy is scaled to work with Titan Class Metroplex, and is a redeco of the previously released Swerve. (You can see the galleries of Metroplex and Swerve by clicking on their names.)
Acid Storm is a redeco of Starscream, based on a random background character used in one episode of the original Generation 1 TV show. (You can see the Starscream gallery here.)

Why can't it be straight, not curved?
Always jumping, blah.

I did not think of that one.
Yes that would be cool!
But, could it be done
In a feasible manner
With the robot mode?

If they wre gonna redeco him into Cybershark, it'd be a completely wasted opportunity not to make him into Transmetal 2 Cybershark.CycL3Bot-'[O.o]' wrote:With a different robot head sculpt and and making the shark body more organic than robotic. I can see Sky-bite being repainted as the original beast wars Cybershark (one of my favorite beast wars characters). And even if the shark head doesnt get remolded into that of hammerhead, I still would like it. Since one of my problems with the original BW Cybershark was that the shark mode look to bulky for a hammerhead, but for a Great White I think it will look really nice! I would totally be sold on that!!

On the other hand, Acid Storm and Venin Bugly makes me glad I couldn't find/passed on Starscream and Waspinator. Now hopefully they don't get lost in the oncoming Movie flood...

Gears will be bought, and Roadbuster is already preordered. I hope he comes with a sticker sheet like Whirl, though, he's looking a little plain without an Autobot symbol.

(TF Prime/BH Huffer can go suck a lug-nut. What a hideous POS that that was)
I want to pick up Acid Storm but...my god, that green! Does it come with a volume control becauase that color is just too friggin' loud.
Now Roadbuster... that one I'm impressed with. Not perfect by any stretch but it's close enough that I'm willing to consider it the worthy replacement for it's original. It shows that there might be a bit of hope for this Generations line after all. Not much but a little bit.

Only gaff is that the pic of Gears on the package doesn't really match the figure.
Oh, and I think Venin is supposed to represent Venom. Those are Bugly's colors but they've been switching around the color schemes on all the partners.

Roadbuster - I will get him but I think I like FP Revolver better
Gears - I guess I will go ahead and get the MakeToys Gears and Swerve now
Acid Storm - ?why?

Heh, Acid Storm's not loud enough!
Seriously, I wouldn't mind if the black was replaced with radioactive yellow and he had acid burn decals instead of just stripes ....even if that's even less accurate.

I agree. And he clearly has a rather simple transformation for his size. He's definitely not on par with Whirl.

leokearon wrote:Gears's face looks like Windcharger
Now that I'm looking at his head up close, it does look like an attempt to match Gear's usual model. There's the two nubs on top and the thin frames on the cheeks (which are normally red).
It's just that they crammed it all into a tiny head inside that larger piece on top of his shoulders. Really his head should be wide enough that it tops the shoulders themselves. That would've required some remolding on the figure though.

Funny story, he's actually G1 Insecticon Venom, but he was renamed "Venin" for trademark reasons. The colors are closer to G1 Bugly thanks to last minute deco and ID changes for the toys: Acid Storm was originally planned as Thundercracker, but along with Tailgate and Gears Hasbro probably thought "too much blue!" After the change Waspy was color-coordinated with him, and ended up as a Bugly homage. Suits him better actually.

Gears' new head is supposed to look like Brawn's since there's a planned Brawn redeco coming from it.RiddlerJ wrote:leokearon wrote:Gears's face looks like Windcharger

Because the designer who made Whirl and Roadbuster wanted these two to be as close to their G1 versions as possible (with modern day engineering level, of course), and so wanted them to have decals because that's what the G1 toys had.shajaki wrote:i was thinking that too. and he must come with stickers like whirl.... and personally i enjoy that we live in the modern day of paint apps. so why are we getting stickers again?william-james88 wrote:shajaki wrote:cybersharks bot mode looks busy. ill bet he's much more impressive in hand.

Basically, these aren't merely G1 Generations toys, these are GEEWUN Generations toys.

Hasbro's Roadbuster looks like it will easily be worth the $20-$25 price. FP's Warbot does not look like something that's worth $100, especially with an alt mode that looks like a brick on wheels.

I'll agree that Hasbro Roadbuster is not the greatest, but given the alternatives are a repainted combiner limb that I've never seen in stores anyway, and an overpriced FailprojectFansproject figure, I'll put my money on Hasbro.

ScottyP wrote:Man, nobody can get Gears' head down right. Maketoys failed, and here's Hasbro failing. Well, at least the Maketoys one has the toy inspired head right. I'll just stick to that for now.
Meh, his head was always just a flat slab with a face stamped on it. Not exactly Starscream's beautiful bevented bonce. I'll take something different any day.
Not sure whether to go for this or the MakeToys figure. The MakeToys version is obviously much higher quality, more poseable etc (and I love the transformation) but it's only available with Swerve, a character I don't have much of a connection with (I should really read the comics, or at least I would if I knew where the hell to find them) although saying that more TFs is always good, and I don't care much for official characterization anyway. Also it's much more expensive. The Hasbro version does look fine though, and it's much, much cheaper (although I don't care too much for the targetmaster thing...I guess I'll have to find an alternative gun for him).
Decisions, decisions...
Everything else looks good. Sky-Byte looks great. and Roadbuster looks pretty good too, good enough for me to probably pass up the FP figure (Recoiler and Riftshot on the other hand...). Acid Storm I'd rather have something bigger (either the Classics figure or do a custom on a bigger jet, maybe even represent him with Armada Thrust).

Why can't people talk? I've seen him plenty to know what's good and what I don't like. Still might get it depending on how disappointed I will or will not be with the new Hasbro one.
