"Transformers 4" is currently filming in downtown Detroit, and a new human sized melee weapon has been spotted on the set. Actor Mark Wahlberg can be seen carry a sword, which appears to be Cybertronian in nature based on it's design and markings. Will this new weapon play a key role in the story? Only time will tell. Check out the images mirrored below courtesy of The Transformers Live Action Movie Blog and Just Jared.

My guess is, that it's not a sword at all, but it's more of a key. (cyber planet key?) something the size of a key to a transformer, would scale down to just about the size of a large sword in human scale. So yeah, you heard it here first, this is TOTALLY a cyber planet key....and it's going to cause some explosions and chasing, and inevitably someone will cry. (I hope I haven't spoiled the movie for anyone, ya know giving away the entire plot like that)

It´s either a human size sword or a Transformer size key... a key to Vector Sigma, perhaps?

In response to sabrblade's reply to my comment. My statement is referring to the fact that they do these stories half ass. There is such great mythos, stories, etc in the source material than I've seen in any of the movies so far. Example, revenge of the fallen barely touched on the fallen. It could've been a much better movie if the source material was referenced more. Just saying. Star saber, omega lock key, whatever it may be, I hope they actually have a well put together story instead of putting an object from cybertronian history, down playing it, and Just putting explosions etc around it. Dig deep bay, there's better stories out there. Use them and make them better not lame

You're a forever optimist aren't you? haha.

I've wished that each and every movie would START getting better, and I've set myself up for disappointment each time...granted none of the movies outright "sucked", but yeah...they were very "lackluster" for lack of a better word.

Well, I'll scoff at all the ideas thus far. Doesn't mean that one of them isn't actually correct, I'm just chaffing a bit at the idea of a human scale sword of Cybertronian origin. Granted, it is still a bad-ass looking sword. One idea that I suggested on Frenzy/Rumbles Facebook page when he posted this earlier is that it could be one of "Wheeljacks" (f*** Bay and his last minute name change to Que or whatever the hell it was) human sized weapons that he engineered for Sam and the NEST troops that had been recently rediscovered. That, to me, seems like a more plausible theory and one that doesn't just totally hose the whole continuity (such as it very loosely is) of the movies.

But sadly, this is the Movie-verse and there is going to be some horribly lame explanation of what this thing is.

I want a replica of it regardless of its back-story. That thing is wicked looking!

Ok...

Once again I feel compelled to throw my two cents in.

1) My vote is the Star Saber...I say that simply because it's so prevalent in MANY forms in the Transformers mythos.

2) Regarding human size... Come on people, did everyone forget the CAVERN-SIZED Allspark that became travel sized?? :HEADHURTS:

3) It looks badass regardless... In all honesty thought, even though it's small enough for a human to lug it around, it still seems kinda BIG overall.

Lastly, I want to say this... I KNOW Bay :michaelbay: has left a bad taste in MANY of the older fans mouths out there, but there are many film adaptations I've seen in my life that have ripped at my VERY SOUL at times... Masters of the Universe, GI Joe (not horrible but subpar), Superman 3 and 4, and anything Marvel that's not made by Marvel comes to mind... But I will be the first to say that thanks to Bay I've gotten some cool toys (funny the coolest movie figs are none movie characters  ) and he has allowed a resurgence of out beloved bots... Sure they'd still be here, but I DOUBT their presence would be as strong... SOOOO I kinda love and hate Bay :michaelbay: at the same time.

To all my G1 bros and sis' out there I would say this...Can we PLEASE at least wait till the movie comes out to decide to rip it to pieces?? :BANG_HEAD: lol

It's got a sword grip, so I doubt it's the Key to Vector Sigma. The Star Saber is the logical guess.

Also, it probably mass shifts, why is this a foreign concept to TRANSFORMERS fans?

Even if it weighed nothing it would be unwieldy to use one handed.

Even if it weighed nothing it would be unwieldy to use one handed.

Not if it were both light and well-balanced (which it can be assumed that it is, if Mark Wahlberg's character ends up using it as a weapon). Basically, if most of the weight is in the hilt, it would be entirely usable with ease.

Unless of course it's NOT well balanced and he just uses it as a club during the movie. We'll see when we see.

What makes a sword usable is less about the overall weight of the weapon, and more about how it's balanced. What's the weight ratio between the hilt and the blade?

I'm thinking about the breadth of the "thingy". Without using both hand it would be easier to injury yourself with it.

I think I know what it is. With Cybertron destroyed in DotM, I bet this is the key (shaped bizarrely like a sword) that unlock all Cybertronians' ability to hump! That's what this latest movie is about! All the sexual references in the previous movies makes sense now! Wheelie humping Mikaela's leg; Wheelie and Brains' obsession with Sam's porn, the Pretender girl - it all come to a head.

The Dinobots will symbolize the extinction of the Cybertronian race, and only Mark Wahlberg can unlock Prime's chastity belt in time to pitch woo at the last female Transformer - Bumblebee. Dreams are crushed, hopes are dashed, and I can't wait to skip the movie in theaters.

What? I pulled references from previous Transformers movies. My idea is just as valid as a planet key or the Star Saber.

Don't forget Kicker  (a human ,an annoying human ) wields the "Energon Saber " in the series of Energon . This is how I believe it is going to be used .
Three small Mini-Con Bots :MINI: ,that have been living with Flynn Vincent (Mark Wahlberg ) suddenly forms a sword in the face of apocalyptic destruction by the hands of Unicron . Flynn then takes the sword ,which gives him the ability to fly into space ,where he impales Unicron though his core ,while singing "You Got The Touch " . Bay Rocks :michaelbay:
Also did anyone notice that a block of concrete seems to have an odd design on it .

Can't it just be an ordinary human-sized weapon made by the Autobots for their human allies to use? I mean, no one raised an eyebrow at all the Cybertronian-made human weaponry in DOTM (i.e. Sam's arm-mounted grappling hook), so why should thing be any different?

Remember in the mythology of Transformers is many WEAPONS, so it comes to no SUPRISE that some of these will be in the movie-verse.

Rather or not this is the Star Saber or Energon Sword or Dark Saber REMAINS TO BE SEEN.

Also look at DOTM, they made them the Grappling Hooks for Climing and the Remote Bombs that blew up Starscream.

Also, when you think about, it is Pefect sense to give Humans an edge or to be on PAR with fighting 50 to 100 Foot Tall Transformers which you couldnt do with CURRENT HUMAN TECH.

So Yeah I see more Cybertronian Human WEAPONS, such as in DOTM, so THIS ISNT A NEW DEAL IT WAS AN EXPECTED ONE.

I see more such as Requeim Blaster, Moon Shield others so EXPECT MORE.
