We have been sent a list of upcoming toys for 2022 and we are breaking them down per line. Of course, since we only have listed names from ordering sheets and no actual listings, you should take these with a grain of salt.
This list below is for the new Velocitron line from Walmart which will be made up of redecos (at least mainly), similarly to the Netflix lines. These are characters from various toylines/continuities and it is unknown which molds they will use (though Clampdown should be from one of the Sideswipe molds).
We also have various retailer exclusives which are broken down by retailer. Target is getting MPM Blackout and Walgreens is getting Minerva. There is also a new Shine line that will have vs packs.

This year's Walgreen's exclusive, Red Alert, did make it to the UK, and at brick-and-mortar to boot. I found mine at a comic book shop in Birmingham called Worlds Apart, but even then, he's still available on Hasbro Pulse UK. I think the same thing will happen with Minerva, she'll pop up in a few smaller retailers like Forbidden Planet or Worlds Apart, and have a listing on Hasbro Pulse UK. It's clear that Hasbro have learned their lesson from the Amazon exclusive Earthrise box sets, because it's a lot easier to get exclusives now than it was a few years ago.
For the figures listed here, I am interested in Minerva and Override, but seeing as Override is going to be an extensive retool of Studio Series 1986 Hot Rod, I'll wait to see how that actually turns out before I commit to buying one.

I honestly completely forgot about Red Alert. I forgot he was even an exclusive considering how relatively easy he has been to aquire with a lot of online stores stocking him, never seen it in stores but then again the closest to me that might is Forbidden Planet which I've not been to in a while. Hopefully it's a ttend that will continue. Some of the older exclusives are showing up here to, with the Rainmakers coming in stock online frequently so at least Hasbro aren't completely ignoring their European fanbase

I think he means it's a 1/Case Walmart exclusive G1 figure.
I'll be interested to see Override - I'm guessing she'll be a retool of SS86 Hot Rod, which will be different.

It could easily be argued that this stance ensures history isn't forgotten as opposed to not acknowledging anything and doing as if it's all business as usual.
Like right now, people are asking why it's so different with Volkswagen, well due to history. So now it keeps getting acknowledged and remembered.

Probably another repaint of Arcee. It would be nice if they actually did the Headmaster juniors as their own thing and look a little more like them instead of just redoing the body's of previous headmasters.

Rumors/leaks say she'll be using the new Legacy Elita-1's mold, but also that Minerva is actually said mold's intended use and it's being released as Elita first since she's more marketable (I guess) in a similar vein to how we saw Titans Return Optimus and Megatron before we saw Octane and Blitzwing.Rodimus Knight wrote:Walgreens:

That sounds a little more promising. Will she be a headmaster or will she just be a "normal" transformer?
I'd like to see the version from Super God Masterforce, but they might be going more for the brief appearance in animated.

Plus, there is no way to easily adjust a mold to turn a 2 part bicep or thigh into a single part. It would basically require new arm and leg molds.
Of course there is a really easy way to make each limb a single piece on your own. That would be called super glue.

I have the triple changing Alpha Trion and while it's a fun toy, it's nowhere near accurate in the looks department, so I look forward to seeing actual reveal of this anouncement. If it's much better, I'll bite the 2-pack price.

This is G1 Orion Pax. SS86 Kup comes decidedly closer to that look than the old deluxe (which was an Aligned toy labeled as the G1 incarnation), as far as existing toys go.
The digibash should have used the PotP head, tho.
Now on this front, you're just plain delusional.cloudballoon wrote:& plastic quality.

Thrilling 30 doesn't count IMO, ESPECIALLY if you're going for the G1 cartoon. And PotP... while that would be ideal since it's the actual cartoon Orion Pax robot mode, I don't know that they'd be able to sell the Orion Pax part standalone. And I somehow doubt they'd do either a full Leader or a brand-new standalone Orion mold as part of a 2-pack like this.TulioDude wrote:I get that the original Kup toy being repainted was the way they found to give us a Orion Pax toy,but Orion Pax got two molds for himself after that(Thrilling 30 and Power of the Primes),so why keep repainting Kup in him?

Side note, both Aligned (IIRC) and 2019 IDW "Orion Pax" feel more like Optronix mislabeled.

I don't disagree that SS86 Kup got a closer body type & styling to the toon look than the Generations Orion Pax, like, by miles. But the Generations toy is an original take on Orion Pax, not a repaint/redeco, and I love it for the originality. The transformation's fun and quite unique too. I thought that Generations Orion Pax's alt mode is conceptually closer to Optimus Prime's (Cybertron OR Earth) truck than Kup's alt mode as well. So I was like "Yes! Finally Hasbro got (retcon?) Orion Pax right!" when it came out.
So if you let me have only one Orion Pax figure out to the existing ones + this rumored SS86 Kup redeco, I'd STILL pick the 1st Generations version.

I would add the plastic quality, too. To the point that I laughed out loud at just that. Having gone back to Prime Wars figures in several cases, none of them have the level of 'plastic quality' as anything in WFC save for perhaps Fangry, who's a floppy a mess as anything I have from any of those previous lines.
I guess we all have our preferences, but I don't even see how the plastic quality is arguable.

It was based on Guido Guidi's Orion Pax design from Spotlight: Blurr, first published by IDW in 2008, two whole years before the first pieces of Aligned media ever saw release (heck, even before ROTF came out).

Faulty memory, that's why; I was getting it mixed up with the WFC Optimus from 2010. My bad. Feel free to smack me. I blame overload and the fact that FoC toys were lingering at the same time T30 came out. The point that it doesn't really work for resembling cartoon Orion still stands tho.Sabrblade wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:SS86 Kup comes decidedly closer to that look than the old deluxe (which was an Aligned toy labeled as the G1 incarnation),Why do you keep calling the Thrilling 30 Orion Pax toy an Aligned toy?ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Side note, both Aligned (IIRC) and 2019 IDW "Orion Pax" feel more like Optronix mislabeled.

However, the side note isn't talking about the toys but rather the characters. If memory served Aligned "Orion Pax" recycled the archivist backstory that came from Optronix, the original G1 comics' version of "Optimus Prime before he was Optimus Prime," and I knew for certain 2019 IDW had done the same. Double-checking the wiki, I was right about the Aligned version.

Optronix was from Dreamwave, but yes, he was the archivist. They merged the Orion Pax name from the cartoon with the archivist job from Dreamwave, "aligning" the two together. Apparently, most preferred the "Orion Pax" name anyway since "Optronix" never caught on outside of Dreamwave and a few other very obscure things from the 2000s. IDW 2019 probably went with "Orion Pax as an archivist" too because it's his standard backstory now.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:However, the side note isn't talking about the toys but rather the characters. When you say "probably" do you mean that's "probably" his backstory, or that's "probably why" they went with it as his backstory?
If it's the former, it indeed is his backstory. He was just a beefy damn archivist.

That's why I asked, because it wasn't clear to me which you meant based on your wording. I can understand that sentence in two different ways, as I laid out.
Had I written what you said I would have said "IDW went with 'Orion Pax as an archivist' too probably because it's his standard backstory now" emphasizing that they are using that backstory, with the conjecture secondary to the idea. And mind you, I'm not criticizing, just seeking clarity based on how a sentence can be interpreted more than one way in the English language.

2. Ah, so just like "Megatron was a miner and gladiator" (which was originally planned for Dreamwave) it's the backstory Furman is married to and so nobody bothers to try telling an interesting story with the cartoon's angle or something fresh.
Posted by Sabrblade on December 4th, 2021 @ 12:44pm CST
Megatron as a gladiator was from Marvel UK (where Optimus and Sunstreaker were gladiators too). Dreamwave reiterated it, and then IDW added the miner bit. Aligned merged it all together and now it's his standard backstory.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:2. Ah, so just like "Megatron was a miner and gladiator" (which was originally planned for Dreamwave) it's the backstory Furman is married to and so nobody bothers to try telling an interesting story with the cartoon's angle or something fresh.
Recent years have shown Hasbro wanting a sense of consistency across the board (Cyberverse season 1 having Bumblebee amnesiac and radio-speaking to align with the Bumblebee movie, the Allspark being launched from Cybertron in both it and the Netflix WFCT cartoon, other elements from the movies and Aligned in both cartoons and the recent comics) in order to give Transformers a more definitive identity like other properties over the years have had (e.g. - the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents spur him to become Batman, the guilt over Uncle Ben's murder spurs Peter Parker to become Spider-Man, the baby Kal-El is sent to Earth from a dying Krypton to become Superman, Steve Rogers becomes Captain America in WWII and awakens in the modern day after being frozen in ice for years, etc.).
Of course, each medium is still free to choose their own direction and details that greatly differ from each other (Ascenticons are IDW2-original, Maximals and Predacons ruled by Galvatron and Optimus-turned-evil Nemesis Prime in an alternate "bad ending" future is Netflix-original, Quintessons as multiversal judges is Cyberverse-original, etc.) so long as the broad strokes remain the same (Optimus was Orion Pax the archivist, Megatron was a miner-turned-gladiator-turned-political revolutionary, etc.).
