I guess i was just hoping for something different from him given how the other titans turned out. Even devastator had some changes made. I was ready to get this trypt, but for how he looks.... G1 is better for me as i said. And at least i can dust off my broken metroplex and have the two side by side at the right height. I am curious to see the other modes of the new one and see what functions he has.

I'm confused. We've already seen the whole figure, but now they're "teasing" us with just an outline of it, and an announcement that it's going to be revealed at NYTF, which we already knew?

Yeah he has 3, but they cover 75% of the cardinal points and all reach the ground. I hope that stays the same for the Titan Release.

Unfortunately I tried that as a kid, my cat was not impressed. In fact all the "motorized" Transformers (OS, Tryp, Skylynx) were too slow.
But MOTU Spydor & the cat--now that was a sight to see LOL.
But trying to get back OT, if this new Trypticon is motorized, I know that lends some feasibility that a heavy retool for Omega Supreme could come down the line. I'm torn...
Mobility has a cool nostalgia factor, but I don't know if the increased price, and the limited poseability due to the electronics needed would be worth it. If it could have a use/non-use option that might be cool. Also how long before some fans would *enhance* it to see how fast they could get it to go LOL!

Well I can't help you there, but for me, it's going to be a case of wherever I can fit him.
Maybe I can lift his arms high enough to balance a shelf and turn him into a coffee table.
Well, as for where I can fit him, he crosses the "Fortress Maximus Threshold" where he's big enough to BE his own display- so he'll go wherever there is space and is safe for him. Like, he doesn't need a shelf! Shelves are for the weak! Trypticon stands tall and proud! Plus he's so big that he can be used to display other, smaller figures (hence why I was thinking he might go with Legends scale).
FWIW if I had Encore Fortress Maximus (TR Fort Max just doesn't do it for me) he'd be in with the Legends crew, as he fairly obviously predates the TR line and he's so huge and full of compartments that he's practically begging for loads of little dudes to go with him.
Nothin' beats the original!

Ugh. I was hoping he would be reinvented a bit, be a bit beefier, better arms or something. You know, like the poster artwork? I'm really not liking how the classics has suddenly gone "must be g1 but with articulation" that the new design team has gone with. I much preferred my classics to be recognisable as the guys but with modern alt modes.
I was holding out hope for this guy, but for the price and shelf space, i think I'll just get the platinum reissue.
You know you can't stray too far from the G1 aesthetic. That's the selling point in the first place. G1!
I get it for some guys, like the original headmasters. But look at the classics. Original classics. Still the iconic g1 aethsetics but a little updated. Now granted, i too would like some guys to be their g1 self. Like blaster. But as long as they have their iconic look incorporated in, like prowl and his door wings and car chest, then why not? Like fortress. Clearly fortress but he's a bit different. Or the combiners. Modified alt modes and look but still recognisable as that character.
As for how to do trypticon? You see that poster that said under construction? And then was fully revealed to show him fighting fortress? Yeah, that's how. If he looked like that, I'd be very tempted to get him.
As I mentioned. Not stray too far. Though some of Tomy's Zoid aesthetic more or less might fit in to what you propose.

william-james88 wrote:I think trypticon looks awesome. A different looking alt mode would make some sense in a smaller toy that is less of a gamble, but for a toy this size the main frame of reference is the g1 toy, especially if it transforms into a base.
Fort max strayed from his g1 origins for base mode (dont give me that catalogue crap) and suffers for it to no end. Lets give Hasbro a break here and welcome them playing it safe for this particular instance.
For all those saying that they might as well buy the g1 toy (a worthwhile argument for Fort max), please note that the g1 Trypticon toy is not that great. Would definitely not be on a top 5 list of best base bots (umm... I havent written that list yet, maybe I should, and maybe I should wait for this guy to come out before).
TL/TR Fortmax would as in would have been a home run ( I own the former ) so this is tough love but in their zeal to cut costs, Hb and Takara's R and D should have given the mold a new set of shins to enable them to fold in itself like the original. Thus the fig could have used both the default and 1986 catalog mode.
But that's water under the bridge. You get a crappy base mode and an awesome head bot. Wish it were both though.Awesome head and base mode ( my sentence was hanging).
Edits: In the bold typos.

As in the word "triptych", which "Trypticon" is derived from.

But Galvatron seems to say Tryp-ta-con too. I don't recall how Scourge, Starscream, and Octane said it though.

Speaking of Trypticon more generally though I wonder how he'd look with WST conheads as little pals for him ?

Since when does he have 3 modes?

Hey wait a sec, one of those modes is just the base mode with more toys attached. I dont count it as a third mode. Thats like saying that all the TR leaders are quadruple changers becuse their base modes can attach to others. I never considered him a triple changer, and he was never referred to as one before I just read this today (not included on the list of triple changers on tf wiki either). Do you guys really consider Trypticon a triple changer?

Never had the original, so just going off the photo, I would say yes, the city and battle station modes to look different enough to consider them as different modes. However, I'm not sure if what was shown was all Trypticon, or Trypticon plus other characters attached. To me it does look like some of the parts of the main body are different in the 2 modes, so I would still consider them as different modes.
As for TR, I believe he is going to be a triple changer just like Metroplex and Fort Max. And no, I would not consider any of them quadruple changes (or Sixshot an 7-8? changer) by simply assembling them.
Edit: now I see Motormaster and Onslaught on the sides. The remainder seems to be all trypticon and different in the 2 modes (ramps up or down, and the connection points for the other bases look to be different), so I still say different modes.

All G1 base-formers were triple changers. tryp's were a little more innocuous than the others. his 'vehicle' mode was basically the base mode raised up on wheels with some of the ramps folded up...

That wasnt true for all of em. Metroplex is not a triple changer by any means. Some have actually been called triple changers, legitimately, like Scorponok. Trypticon was never labeled a triple changer. You can call him whatever you want of course, free country. But of course, you'd be wrong. Doesnt matter much though, doesnt seem like the truth means anything in the US anymore

Yes, he's always had 3 modes. Much like Metroplex, and Fort Max. who transform into a robot, city, and battle platform, or transport mode, Trypticons Third Mode is his "vehicle" or transport mode.
From TfWiki: "Trypticon transforms from a large grey, teal and purple dinosaur into a city mode, and from there into a mobile battle station."
City:
Vehicle / Battle Platform
It's in his the instructions even. Official 3rd mode.

City Mode:
Battle Station Mode:
They're as much "Triple Changers" as the Beast Wars Transmetals were, in that they were simply Transformers toys advertised with three modes but not given the specific "Triple Changer" subgroup name.
And in several fictions, both Trypticon and Metroplex were depicted as having mobility in their Battle Station Modes, treating those more like ground-based or space-worthy vehicles.
