Thanks to the official Takara Tomy Transformers Legends page, we have a new chapter in the Legends manga series - after the end of its own narrative universe a short while back - with the release of LG-EX Blue Big Convoy (see our latest relevant story here)!

The two page comic, mirrored below, features almost exclusively Big Convoy and Straxus (from the United line), as well as an appearance from a number of triple changers in the Titans Return line (also part of Legends in the Takara Tomy Release), as the character is supposed to be Primus Vanguard Leader from the eHobby series of comics. Check it out below!

And an English summary - https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Cybertron_Blue_Big_Convoy_prequel_comic

Faced with semi-corporeal enemies that are unaffected by his attacks, Straxus, chief engineer of the Primus Vanguard, concludes that only the power of the Matrix can defeat them. This is proven true when his leader arrives and effortlessly slashes through the beings with his Matrix Sword, joking that Straxus's usual pompous attitude is nowhere to be found before, to Straxus's shock, lending him the sword. Revealing that his entire body is infused with Matrix energy thanks to the α Matrix in his chest, the leader battles the enemies with a variety of other weapons while declaring that himself to be "Blue", the Matrix-chosen great commander—the Big Convoy—of the Primus Vanguard. The entities fade away when struck by Convoy's Blue Pèlerinage, a powerful Matrix-powered blast from his cannon, but not without delivering cryptic whispers stating that they are retreating in the face of the "blue apostle" and that they will return "when the seven are divided".

In the aftermath, Straxus realizes the attackers must have been the Specters mentioned by the Vanguard's previous leader, Brightes. Combining the α Matrix and Matrix Sword into a beacon that summons their comrades, Convoy simply responds that their identity is of no concern: no matter the enemy, the duty of the Primus Vanguard is to defend spacetime.

Four time periods in this one.

2011: Right at the end of the story "Controverse", set after "The Return of Optimus Prime" (which in Japan took place in 2010 rather than 2006) but before The Headmasters.

2025: Around the time of Transformers: Victory

2035: This was the year that Operation Combination and United EX were set in

2038: This is the post-G2 year that takes sees Galvatron II in charge of the Decepticons, but he doesn't seem to be present in this manga

Grown up a bit, but yeah. There were always effeminate dudes.

Looking at this LG-EX Manga reminds me how absurd it is that Zone, of all things, is getting even a tiny bit of live. Wasn't it a complete flop in Japan? The last dying gasps of the brand there, before it got supplanted by the Brave series. Does anyone in Japan even care about Zone?

Well, I suppose some do if we got a new Big Powered!

Nay, good sir. Zone was not the end of G1 in Japan. Well, it was as far as animation was concerned, but there were two more G1 series in Japan after it: "Return of Convoy" (A.K.A. "The Battlestars") and "Gattai Daisakusen" (meaning "Operation Combination").

What's more is that Zone did have a complete storyline that spanned 12 chapters of story pages and two catalog mini-stories, which altogether told a fairly lengthy tale that the single cartoon episode and single manga chapter were only a smidgen of in the grand scheme of things.

Afterward, Return of Convoy would likewise have its story told via several story pages and a single manga chapter, and Operation Combination with story pages and telephone-based audio adventures.

Kinda like how back in the US Transformers didn't end with The Rebirth, with the story continuing in the Marvel comics (even advertised as such on TV!). As an aside, the Brave series started directly after Victory, so there was some overlap between the lines.

The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 2

Having discussed the origins of Transformer life and the existence of their souls with Primacron in 2011, Wheeljack begins researching the subject by examining personality components, the part believed to contain a Transformer's essence. By 2025, he succeeds at extracting the elusive spark from his own personality component, proving once and for all that his species does have souls, though to Perceptor's horror the experiment causes Wheeljack's personality program to reset and leaves him without any memories. Finding records of the research results, Perceptor begins wondering what happens to sparks when Transformers die...

In 2035, the Powered Masters return to the Tenth Planet in response to a disaster, discussing Violen Jiger originating there as an aggregate of Decepticon ghosts and whether or not the location has anything to do with the reappearance of Starscream's ghost. Suddenly, Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber are decapitated by none other than Violen Jiger himself, whose soul had not been vanquished but used the Tenth Planet's energy to resurrect himself. A couple years later in 2038, Megatron returns from the destroyed Legends World to his proper era and is met by Soundwave, who returned fifteen years earlier and has kept his mouth shut about knowing about Megatron's eventual return. He explains that all Autobots and Decepticons present in Legends World have a secret agreement not to talk about encountering people from the future in order to avoid causing any time paradoxes, though by now Optimus Prime has been informed and should be returning the Zodiac to Dai Atlas.

However, the robots that meet with Prime aren't Dai Atlas and his comrades at all, but Violen Jiger's components—Vion, Lenja and Igern—who are inhabiting of the Powered Masters' bodies in order to take the Zodiac by force! His plot is foiled by the arrival of the real Powered Masters, who were saved by Perceptor and Wheeljack having used the Tenth Planet's resurrective properties to recover their sparks and place them in protoforms, allowing them to return in new Headmaster bodies. A heated battle breaks out as the Powered Masters use their teamwork and new Headmaster capabilities to best Lenja and Igern, but Vion, in the body of Dai Atlas, is able to defeat Optimus Prime and take the Zodiac. He points out that the Powered Masters' new bodies are lacking Powered Engines, devices granted to them by Vector Sigma, and that the reason Violen Jiger took their original bodies is because a Powered Engine allows him to use the Zodiac to its maximum potential.

Violen Jiger calls upon the Zodiac and transforms into Dai Atlas's Zone Mode, but fortunately Topspin and Twin Twist arrive and grant Dai Atlas access to their own Powered Engines by connecting their own Zone Modes to his, allowing Dai Atlas to counter Violen Jiger's attack. The blast causes the power of the Zodiac to run dry, so Violen Jiger retreats to replenish it with Energon Z. Optimus Prime intends to give chase, seeking to recover the Zodiac and create a new home for the displaced Legends World citizens, but Dai Atlas already knows where Violen Jiger is headed: the home of Energon Z, Planet Z.

Huh. This seems like it's trying to be an introduction for Sparks in the Japanese G1 cartoon continuity, placing their first discovery in 2025. But the Binaltech story, which was set in 2003-2005, had Sparks already a known thing way back then. What's worse is that this very Wheeljack who makes the Spark discovery here is specifically the one who came over to the main JG1 continuity from the Binaltech world, taking the place of his main universe counterpart who died in Transformers: The Movie. And yet, despite this bit of awkward contradiction, this story's opening scene deliberately references the manga story "Controverse" that first brought Binaltech Wheeljack into the JG1 world in the first place. :HEADHURTS:

Aside from that confusing element the rest is pretty good, also which storyline was it when Prime returned to his g1 form instead of his star convoy body?

I really don't like the convoluted story behind Wheeljack's revival, it could've been vastly streamlined without time travel/alt universes blah blah blah :BANG_HEAD: (no one mention Prowl either :-$ )

Vio, len & Jiger should've been different colours once they took on the old Dai Atlas (& friends) bodies.

On a side note i really dislike non transformer decepticon leaders DevilZ, ViolenJiger & maybe Scrash etc

He took on his MP-10 body after G2, around the time when Megatron (in his then-new Leader class toy body) first left the JG1 world for the Legends World. So, this 2038 setting would be around that post-G2 time.

Whereas he took on his Star Convoy body earlier during the still-undated time between 2025 (Victory) and 2035 (Operation Combination, United EX, and Metrowars), after the events of Zone that also took place somewhere during this decade.

Well, that was all Ichikawa's doing back in that "Controverse" story. Sakamoto, here, is innocent on that one. ;)

Coptur wrote:Vio, len & Jiger should've been different colours once they took on the old Dai Atlas (& friends) bodies.
But then Vion, Lenja, and Igern wouldn't have been able to fool the other Autobots into letting them get as close to the Zodiac as they did before they tried to take it by force.

Hooboy, lots to unpack in this one!

My best interpretation:

So, this follows up from the previous Monsterbots manga chapter that came out before the previous chapter that instead dealt with Dai Atlas and the Powered Masters. It's the year 2038 of the G1 World, during the G2 Era when Galvatron II is still in command of the Decepticons. He comes to the planet Beast wanting to steal the planet's Beast Power, arriving with a small army of G2 Decepticons and... Artificial Planet Nemesis from Beast Wars Second?!!!!

Well, since "Destron" in Japan refers to both the Decepticons of G1/G2 and the Predacons of the Beast Era, I guess Sakamoto can get away with the term being indistinguishable between the two generations of 'Cons. Though, from our Western perspective, this now means that Nemesis wasn't built by Predacon science, but by Decepticon science.

Anyway, as the G2 Decepticons attack, the denizens of Planet Beast fight back, a combined army of Beastformers and Laser Beasts, now led by White Lune, who's dressed in a robe and armed with a staff. The G2 Decepticon Dreadwing fights off the Beast army with a new mode, the Dread Roadblock Mode, which resembles a sort of base mode or artillery platform. The Cyberjets likewise show off a new Power Up with more weapons. The two Monsterbots, meanwhile, are stuck in monster mode since they can't transform without their Headmaster partners.

Luckily, the frozen White Leo and Tigerburn are released from their crystallized state and join forces to enter the fray. White Leo becomes Doublecross's head for the first time in 15 years, while Tigerburn merges once more with the Headmaster Warrior Lione (this time in in a mutual willingness) and becomes a new head for Grotusque (since Platinum Tiger is still secluded back inside the Holography Mirror from two chapters ago).

As the Decepticons chase Rattrap, he drops what I presume to be the last living plant of the Legends World. As he risks his life to retrieve it, the plant sprouts into a Baby Groot-like lifeform that fights back against the Decepticon Laser Rods, introducing herself to Rattrap as Botanica.

As Nemesis continues to absorb more and more Beast Power, Galvatron draws it all into his Creation Matrix. But then Repugnus and Hedgehog arrive with an army of Repug Armors, now called "KoRepugs" ("Ko-" being a Japanese prefix referring to small, cute, or baby things, like "neko" means "cat" while "koneko" means "kitten"), and sends each KoRepug up to engage Nemesis, but Galvatron blasts them all aside before they could reach the artificial planet.

After some discussion between the Legends World survivors inside the Axalon, they decide to fly up the ship towards Nemesis and take it on themselves. Atop the ship are Leo Prime, Lio Convoy, and Junior. Leo Prime crosses his arms (doing the same pose as the Headmaster Juniors and Godmasters from Masterforce when they would turn from human form into armored suit form yelling "Masterforce!") and uses his own energy to turn everyone inside the ship into Transformer bodies, making everyone look like their G1 World counterparts from the Beast Wars, Beast Wars Second, and Beast Wars Neo cartoons. All except for Leo Prime and Lio Convoy, who keep their present form so that Leo Prime can still fucntion as Lio Convoy's Headmaster.

A massive beam is fired at Nemesis, disabling it and forcing the other Decepticons to retreat, much to Galvatron's ire. Things get a little crazy inside the now-likely cramped Axalon with all of the Maximals and Predacons now in their bigger Transformer bodies. Leo Prime then comes to Optimus Primal and Big Convoy and convinces them to join him in a "Triple Beast Convoy Matrix Attack" that appears to fully cripple Nemesis for good (but if this all still takes place before its appearance in Beast Wars Second, then that means that it's gotta be fixed later on for the events of that cartoon to still happen).

Galvatron, meanwhile, is not that upset over the loss of Nemesis, since he did still get the Beast Power stored inside his Creation Matrix. He then holds the defeated Monsterbots at cannon-point and recalls how had had previously defeated the Autobots back in his own reality, complete with a flashback panel showing the dead Rodimus Prime strung up between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center (as seen back in the Marvel G1 issue "Rhythms of Darkness!").

As they lie in defeat, the Monsterbots' entire life flashes before their eyes, with a big flashback showing the creation of the Dinobots in 1985 (G1 seasons 1 and 2 both took place in 1985 in Japan since they were one long run of episodes instead of two separate seasons spanning 1984-1985 like they were in the West), Spike mentioning Vector Sigma to Wheeljack and Ratchet (I'm guessing this implies that the Dinobots were given actual souls by Vector Sigma at some point after their creation). Then we see the Monsterbots being built by Perceptor and the second Wheeljack (the first Wheeljack died in TFTM, this second one came to this world from the Binaltech world) in 2011 during early on in The Headmasters since Rodimus Prime is back in command at this time. Dialogue from Wheeljack suggests that the three were built as a response to the Sharkticons, G1 Predacons, and Terrorcons all being animal-based Transformers used by the enemy, so these three will give the Autobots some more animal-based TFs of their own. Then we see the Monsterbots' reassignment to Planet Beast, as such had occurred in The Headmasters. They stuck around and helped the Beastformers fight in the war against the Laser Beasts, and eventually became Headmasters during more recent events.

The flashback ends and White Leo, Tigerburn/Lione, and Hedgehog are disengaged from the Monsterbots, whose bodies get fried by Galvatron (fitting, since the dialogue refers to them by their Japanese name of "Firebots"). But then, the Three Wise Ones of ancient Beastformer history arrive on the scene. Taking a page from White Leo, they too then become new Headmaster forms to merge with the Monsterbots; said forms represented here by three Power of the Primes Prime Masters. The Three Wise Ones prepare to engage Galvatron as the manga reaches its cliffhanger ending that is to be continued...

And now the full English summary, correcting anything I missed/got wrong in my previous interpretation - https://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Road_to_Legends%27_Revival_Chapter_3

Rattrap returns to the Axalon with the Monsterbots in tow and tells the other Legends World evacuees where and when they have landed, but the explanation is interrupted when a gigantic object enters Beast's atmosphere: the Nemesis, a giant starship constructed by Galvatron II to drain the planet of its Beast Power. Initially surprised by the ship's appearance in the wrong era, Leo Prime realizes that while he knew its creator was a "Galvatron", he had mistakenly assumed it to be his era's Galvatron. Galvatron deploys his Decepticon army and a battle breaks out when the now allied Beastformers and Laser Beasts arrive to defend their world, led by Queen White Lune who speaks of a prophecy claiming White Leo and Tigerburn will return during a great crisis. Indeed, the two break out of their crystal prison and join the fray, much to the joy of Doublecross who was unable to battle in robot mode without Leo as his Headmaster. Grotusque is similarly afflicted, so Lione voluntarily re-merges with Tigerburn to provide him with a head.

Elsewhere, Rattrap drops a potted plant in the chaos and scrambles to retrieve it, the pot containing the last remaining soil of the Legends World. He nearly gets stepped on by Jolt when the plant suddenly defends him with a force field, revealing that the planet's Beast Power has evolved her into a sentient being named Botanica, before kissing Rattrap as thanks for protecting her. The Nemesis begins absorbing Beast Power and transmitting it into Galvatron's Creation Matrix, much to the concern of Rattrap who believes the energy will be key to reviving the Legends World. As Repugnus's army of drones is blasted out of the sky by Galvatron when they try to attack the ship, the Legends natives resolve to lend a hand and launch aboard the Axalon, where Leo Prime employs Transformers sickness to awaken their inner beasts and transform them into their "true" Beast Era forms. The Axalon pierces the Nemesis and the powered up Legends warriors proceed to cause havoc within, culminating in Optimus Primal, Leo Prime, and Big Convoy destroying the ship's core with a Triple Beast Convoy Matrix Attack. Galvatron isn't overly dismayed by the ship crashing into the planet as his Matrix has already been filled with plenty of Beast Energy, and he turns his cannon on the defeated Monsterbots while gloating that he will first destroy the Autobots, much like he did in his original dimension, and then he will go on to conquer all dimensions. White Leo and Tigerburn remain defiant, but the Monsterbots are ready to accept their fate...

While completing the Dinobots on Earth in 1985, Wheeljack and Ratchet explain to Spike that without Vector Sigma they cannot create true robotic life, advising him to see the Dinobots as something akin to animals instead. Wheeljack goes on to create the Monsterbots in 2011, programming them to be stupid to ensure they won't go on a rampage, but by now he feels "animal" robots like them are the same type of lifeform as other Transformers, just less intelligent. Deemed unsuitable for combat because of their silly personalities, the Monsterbots end up stationed on Beast where they're treated as equals by the Beastformers, and over time they develop higher intelligences equal to other Transformers.

Voicing their gratitude, the Monsterbots remove their Beastformer Headmasters and toss them to safety before being blasted by Galvatron. Suddenly, three of Beast's mystical Gems appear and speak, praising the Monsterbots' selfless spirits before transforming into their true forms—the legendary Three Wise Ones! Recognizing that their power is needed to protect Beast, they adopt robotic forms, transform into mechanical versions of the gems and combine with the Monsterbots, announcing that the time for "true evolution" has come.

So does this mean that canonically 'Prime Masters' do in fact have the ability to become headmasters proper and isn't just some leftover shared engineering?

Fellow Seibertronian Saberblade has informed us that a new Legends comic, entitled The Road to Legends 27 Revival Chapter 3, is now available online from Takara. It is filled to the brim with action and fun appearances of Battle Beasts, Monster Bots, Galvatron and so much more. Some extra tidbit from my previous interpretation of the comic that aren't mentioned in the summary:

Sabrblade wrote:It's the year 2038 of the G1 World, during the G2 Era when Galvatron II is still in command of the Decepticons.
Sabrblade wrote:since "Destron" in Japan refers to both the Decepticons of G1/G2 and the Predacons of the Beast Era, I guess Sakamoto can get away with the term being indistinguishable between the two generations of 'Cons. Though, from our Western perspective, this now means that Nemesis wasn't built by Predacon science, but by Decepticon science.
Sabrblade wrote:The G2 Decepticon Dreadwing fights... with a new mode, the Dread Roadblock Mode, which resembles a sort of base mode or artillery platform. The Cyberjets likewise show off a new Power Up with more weapons.
^ Said weapons are those that were to have been part of a plan for reissues of the Cyberjets that Takara was planning way back in 1995, which would have all new weapons retooled onto their arms. But, this plan never come to pass, leaving these weapon retools ultimately unreleased. Anyway,
Sabrblade wrote:White Leo becomes Doublecross's head for the first time in 15 years, while Tigerburn merges once more with the Headmaster Warrior Lione (this time in in a mutual willingness) and becomes a new head for Grotusque (since Platinum Tiger is still secluded back inside the Holography Mirror from two chapters ago).
Sabrblade wrote:Repugnus and Hedgehog arrive with an army of Repug Armors, now called "KoRepugs" ("Ko-" being a Japanese prefix referring to small, cute, or baby things, like "neko" means "cat" while "koneko" means "kitten"), and sends each KoRepug up to engage Nemesis,
Sabrblade wrote:Leo Prime crosses his arms (doing the same pose as the Headmaster Juniors and Godmasters from Masterforce when they would turn from human form into armored suit form yelling "Masterforce!")
Sabrblade wrote:a "Triple Beast Convoy Matrix Attack"... appears to fully cripple Nemesis for good (but if this all still takes place before its appearance in Beast Wars Second, then that means that it's gotta be fixed later on for the events of that cartoon to still happen).
Sabrblade wrote:Galvatron... recalls how he had previously defeated the Autobots back in his own reality, complete with a flashback panel showing the dead Rodimus Prime strung up between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center (as seen back in the Marvel G1 issue "Rhythms of Darkness!").
Sabrblade wrote:...the creation of the Dinobots in 1985 (G1 seasons 1 and 2 both took place in 1985 in Japan since they were one long run of episodes instead of two separate seasons spanning 1984-1985 like they were in the West),
Sabrblade wrote:Then we see the Monsterbots being built by Perceptor and the second Wheeljack (the first Wheeljack died in TFTM, this second one came to this world from the Binaltech world) in 2011 during early on in The Headmasters since Rodimus Prime is back in command at this time.
Sabrblade wrote:...the Monsterbots, whose bodies get fried by Galvatron (fitting, since the dialogue refers to them by their Japanese name of "Firebots").

Mind you, they're not really 3 of the 13 Primes (Micronus, Nexus and Prima): rather the Three Wise Ones take robotic forms in order to interface with the Monsterbot bodies like the Battle Beasts before them. Given their supposed divine nature, the design of 3 PotP Prime Master were repurposed for that goal.

And one more Easter Egg: Hooligan riding Road Pig is a direct reference to the G-2 pack-in comics:

Anyone who made fan modes with Repugnus' and Grotusque's Beast Mode heads in Robot Mode should be feeling really good now, as it's now canon! By placing the Headmaster Beastformer in the cockpit (Get On!), tweaking the chest panels on Repugnus and folding over the claws on Grotusque, in addition to using that Beast Head, one can create the "Beastformer Mode".

Not too sure if Doublecross can be one, that would involve totally transforming his upper torso, leaving him with his dragon arms and robot legs.

Somehow that reminds me of the concept behind the Beast Masks from Beast Wars.

In a future beyond the 21st century, Cybertron is turned into a technorganic world thanks to Optimus Primal's sacrifice, and with its rebirth Vector Sigma becomes an ultra-computer that governs the planet and creates a new generation of Transformers to protect it. Several of these are "Convoy Type" Maximals, named and patterned after Optimus Primal in honor of his memory, and these end up at the top of Cybertron's hierarchy. However, one of their number—Blue Big Convoy—renounces the notion that Convoys are special and refuses to be part of the Convoy Council, who he accuses of overindulging in the power of their Energon Matrixes. He tells his son, Big Junior, that while he believes peace between Maximals and Predacons is the only way forward, said peace will someday end when the special treatment afforded by Convoys will trigger an uprising by those seeking equality.

Blue Big Convoy and Big Junior fight together in many a battle in defense of peace, until one day when Blue Big Convoy is struck down protecting his son from a force of mysterious energy-seekers. When Junior despairingly asks why it came to this, his father responds that it's because he's a Convoy—a Convoy is nothing special, merely someone who fights to protect others. Before passing away, he asks Junior to take his left arm to replace his own destroyed appendage, then dubs him "Big Convoy" in recognition of his son's ability to protect others as well. Witnessing his father's death because of him leads Big Convoy to adopt a lone wolf nature, unwilling to fight alongside others as he doesn't want them to be hurt. Some time later, while an older Big Convoy is skipping out on Survive's instructions, Vector Sigma summons Great Convoy to tell him the mysterious enemies were likely searching for Unicron's energy. Expecting a new Great War to break out, the computer announces it will prepare for the coming chaos by re-mechanizing Cybertron and asks Great Convoy to focus on educating new recruits.

Energy-seekers... nice reference to the BW Neo Blendtrons Drancron, Elphaorpha and... however his name's spelled  I'm spotting Air Hammer, Buzzclaw, Terragator and Noctorro. Outside of Bantor, that's all Fuzors accounted for in Japan G1 as the rest appeared in Neo and Season 2.

When I first heard about the contents of this chapter, I was initially concerned that it had sounded like Vector Sigma undid the Technorganic reformatting of Cybertron so soon after Beast Machines, as though that show had gone through all the trouble it went through to bring about this revolutionary evolution of the Cybertronian race... only for Vector Sigma to just change its mind afterward.

But now that we have a proper summary, I see now that the undone reformatting instead occurred quite some time later, much closer to Beast Wars Neo, giving it a good number of millennia to take effect before the planet was metalized again.

Backing up to these two, it appears that we never did get to see the TFWiki summaries for these two here in this thread.

https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Legends_Comic:_Bonus_Edition_Vol._EX_(Repugnus)
With the Monsterbots revived by Beast Power from the Three Wise Ones' gem forms, Repugnus is reunited with Hedgehog and reveals that he can now perform a Get On by placing the Beastformer in his chest. This transforms him into a new Beastformer Mode with the power to spray explosive hedgehog needles at the Decepticons, causing Smokescreen and Dreadwing to recognize Beast Power as a threat that must be destroyed. Rattrap voices his defiance, recognizing their way of thinking as the very same that caused the destruction of his world, and the Decepticon duo respond by combining and launching a barrage of missiles at him. Repugnus saves the day and defeats them with his MVP Weapon, the Double Jungle Swords, but when he turns around he sees that Galvatron II has taken down Doublecross and stolen the Gem of Fire.

https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Legends_Comic:_Bonus_Edition_Vol._EX_(Grotusque)
Using the Gem of Fire's power to manipulate Beast's environment, Galvatron II begins causing a natural disaster, all the while elated that he can unlock a beast mode of his own if he gets his hands on all three gems. There are too many Decepticons for Repugnus to handle, so he asks Grotusque to contact Platinum Tiger in his self-imposed exile within the Holography Mirror, a task the self-loathing Monsterbot reluctantly pulls off. He pleads with Platinum Tiger to come back, telling him they can fight their inner demons together, and the Beastformer accepts and returns to form Grotusque's head. Blocking Galvatron's attacks with Platinum Tiger's trademark barrier, the two perform a Get On and unlock Grotusque's Beastformer Mode, granting them the strength to defeat the Decepticon leader and reclaim the Gem. As the Decepticons retreat, Platinum Tiger returns to worrying about the corruption within him, but after being reminded that he was the one who taught Grotusque not to fear himself, he takes his own lesson to heart and agrees to remain on Beast and work on overcoming the curse together with Grotusque.

All's not well that ends well, however, as now that the Decepticons have learned of the existence of the gems, someone is very interested...

Oh, sweet mother of mercy, there have been some major manga updates published for the new Big Powered set.

First, we got not one but TWO online chapters that lead into the toy pack-in issues:

https://takaratomymall.jp/img/goods/4904810119975/comic01.pdf
https://takaratomymall.jp/img/goods/4904810119975/comic02.pdf

Here are my best interpretations of the two:

Comic 01

In the year 2038, the three components of Violen Jiger, possessing the original bodies of the Powered Masters, work to turn a distant planet into "Unicron Neo", which is based directly on the Beast Wars Neo Unicron toy prototype. This is during the post-G2 era of 2038, during Galvatron II's reign as leader of the Decepticons.

We then cut to a flashback to 2030, during the events of the Train Wars when The Fallen was attacking Cybertron in his design that was based on that of Generations FOC Ruination. G2 Smokescreen is a witness of these events and is in the body that he would have had if his toy had won in the poll that led to Goshooter's new toy getting made instead. Anyway, G2 Smokescreen has some mental problems from the Binaltech GT System (which enabled one Transformer to operate from multiple bodies simultaneously). G2 Smokescreen keeps hearing the voices of GT Units 01, 02, and 08 in his head, which I guess would make him 07 since one of the voices calls him that (these were all numbers that the four variant releases of Binaltech Smokescreen had). This would mean that G2 Smokescreen is actually G1 Smokescreen after having suffered from multiple personalities and turned bad as a result. He then gets attacked by "Double Goshooter" and is knocked away. He wakes up later having been rebuilt into his proper G2 jet body and meets Dreadwing, who gets him up to speed on things.

Back in the present, Unicron Neo appears above Planet Chaar where he attacks the Decepticons. Galvatron II engages Unicron Neo and recalls what he had learned on Planet Beast about the potential of Beast Power (which was shown in the previous manga that advertised Repugnus and Grotusque). Unable to stop Unicron Neo, Galvatron II uses Solitarium to escape, traveling back in time to the 20th Century, when the first Trypticon (from Scramble City) is currently being built, and where he meets G1 Megatron and will go on to have more adventures there as Megatron's City Commander.

Unicron Neo reformats the damaged Dreadwing and Smokescreen in new forms based on their Tokyo Toy Show 2010 toys (which are redecos of ROTF Mindwipe and Skystalker) to make then into servants. They and rest of the G2 Decepticons on Chaar are recruited to serve Unicron Neo. Meanwhile, aboard Broadside, Optimus Prime (in his MP-10 body) and Megatron discuss the Legends World and the possibility of reestablishing the Cybertron Alliance. But Unicron Neo suddenly appears behind them.

Optimus is shocked by this, especially since Unicron was last seen dead in the Triple Z Point. A character from the Generations books, named Screenshot, is also with Optimus. Unicron Neo heads for Planet Zone, and so do all the other Supreme Commanders. On Zone, Violen Jiger attacks all the Micromasters, demanding Energon Z from them. He unleashes Metrotitan, who has undergone the same "Titan Power Up" that Metroplex underwent back during the Metrowars. Galaxy Shuttle goes on the defense, assuming his Zone Base Mode. Grandus and Sky Garry also appear, along with Metrobase, who has likewise undergone the Titan Power Up. The real Powered Masters arrive and Dai Atlas assumes his Zone Base for the Micromasters to use. The Micromasters swarm over Vion while Phaser and Groundshaker, being "G1 Microns" (Mini-Cons) now, use their Targetmaster modes with Roadfire and Sonic Bomber.

The Micromasters then reveal that they used Schaffer Energy with Plasma Energy to make Plasma Schaffer Energy, which they then use to combine into Micron Target Modes with the cry of "Energy In!" (using their Siege toy weapon modes). The Sky Patrol Team (in their United EX bodies) use these new weapons, but Eagle Eye won't help, saying that he's named "Hawking" now.

Unicron Neo transforms into robot mode starts attacking Planet Zone. Then those two weird monster creatures from the Zone opening appear (I'm guessing they came from Unicron Neo) and attack Dai Atlas. The other Supreme Commanders arrive to help. Fortress turns into Fortress Maximus and Cog (in his Siege toy body) combines with him to form Weaponizer Fortress Maximus. He engages Unicron Neo, but Optimus tells him that the Matrix needs to be used to stop Unicron. Suddenly, Mini-Cons appear in their glowing forms from Armada, with Dragoyell explaining that they were the Mini-Con toy collection of Armada Megatron, having since become real Transformers.

Armada Thrust then appears and explains his new membership with the Aerialbots. The Mini-Cons then all combine into the Unicron of Light (colored like the new Encore toy). The Mini-Con Dead End then links with the bulk to use the "Cosmo Springer" attack, blasting a hole in Unicron Neo, who just smiles...

Comic 02

We open with a flashback to 2021, just after the Unite Warriors comics ended with Optimus dying again and Roller looking after his body. Suddenly, a Vok probe appears and steals Optimus's body.

In the present, 2038, the disabled Unicron Neo reveals his true identity: Dark Nova! He defeats the Unicron of Light and explains his origin, which ties all the way back to the Vok! He is actually the two Vok who were killed with Tarantulas in the Beast Wars episode "Other Victories", and have taken eons to revive. As Dark Nova, he took the form of Unicron because he is a symbol to the Transformers (referencing the Vok having taken Unicron's form back in the Beast Wars episode "Other Voices") and created Violen Jiger to acquire the Zodiac energy for himself and to stop the resurrection of Optimus Prime (since Optimus is a symbol of hope for the Transformers). He ultimately wishes to the destroy the Transformers so that the Beast Wars may never come to the pass.

His mentioning the Beast Wars prompts Optimus Prime to mention Optimus Primal (whom he had met previously back in 2004 during the events of RobotMasters). Dark Nova then transforms into his never-used-until-now "Robo Mode" (which was only seen in a catalog image), and unleashes Vok Novaroids on the planet (which resemble Movie 1 Protoform Optimus Prime's comet mode with Vok faces). Jetmaster retaliates with Novabots while the Supreme Commanders fight on. Dreadwing and Smokescreen combine into their Double Jet Mode while Dai Atlas and Roadfire become Land Powered to fight back.

Suddenly, what looks like Universe Razorclaw appears (seemingly from the two monsters from the Zone opening) and introduces itself as a Vok Galaman. It defeats Hot Rod, God Ginrai, and Victory Saber all at once, but Optimus then takes it on using his Matrix's Reconfiguration powers to assume Go-Bot Mode, his Missile Trailer Mode (in which he uses his "Double Wheel Torque Megaton"), and his Battle Convoy Mode. He tries to use his "Seibertonium Sword", but is impaled by Dark Nova. Having expended much of the Matrix's energy, Optimus is tossed aside.

Reinforcements arrive in the form of Eldedroids, with Daniel leading the charge. We then get some information about when Alpha Trion rebuilt Optimus from Orion Pax and when Optimus Primal died destroying the Vok's planetbuster. Shaoshao Li (in her Targetmaster form based on Siege Firedrive) mourns for the dying Hot Rod, but suddenly a Matrix-like device appears inside his chest and revives him as Rodimus Prime (upgrading him into resemble his POTP Leader toy), much to Shaoshao's delight.

More Matrixes appear inside the chests of Fortress Maximus, Grand Maximus, God Ginrai, Victory Saber, and Dai Atlas, which are revealed to each be an Energon Matrix! All of them raise each Matrix to the sky, shooting up a massive blast that flies off elsewhere.

We then cut back to another earlier flashback to when Roller joined the Battlestars in finding the missing body of Optimus Prime. They tracked the body to Planet Lucifer, where they met resistance Galaman and Novaroid forces. Roller was killed in the battle, but Optimus's body was found and revived with Zodiac, becoming Star Convoy while Roller became Star Convoy's treaded component.

Back in the present, the Matrix energy blast finds the defeat MP-10-bodied Optimus and strikes him, upgrading him once more into his previous Star Convoy form. He regroups with Dai Atlas and borrows his Zone Powered Cutter to bisect the Vok Galaman. Optimus then turns into his upcoming MP-44 body and uses his trailer to load Dai Atlas as a Drill Rocket. Dai Altas is fired at Dark Nova and penetrates the massive alien's malformed body.

But then Broadside arrives with Soundwave and Weirdwolf, who informs every about something to do with Megatron. Dark Nova then reveals a horrific sight as his head then takes the form of Megatron, becoming the Star Giant once more!

And finally, RobotKingdom has scans of the three pack-in manga issues included with the Big Powered set:

Sonic Bomber's
Image

Roadfire's
Image

Dai Atlas's
Image
Image
Image

Due to the low quality of these scans making it very hard to make out exactly what's happening in these three, I'm not going to attempt to summarize these events. But, from what little I can make out of these three chapters (aside from the fact that the Powered Masters simply fight Violen Jiger's Powered Master-bodied components and then go after Dark Nova to try to save Megatron), the combined form of Roadfire and Topspin is "Wing Powered", Dai Atlas combined with Twin Twist is "Drill Powered", and the combined form of all five Powered Masters (Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, Roadfire, Topspin, and Twin Twist) is "Ultra Powered".

Also, it looks like Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, and Roadfire were all originally created by Megatron using Vector Sigma, and were originally "Poweredrons" before they would be called Powered Masters.

And there's something about the Powered Masters' having Powered Engines, and Roadfire has an attack called "Zone Powered Hammer".

The Transformers Legends LG-EX Big-Powered Box set has finally been released, and as usual for a Transformers Legends release the figure comes packed with a short manga issue. This time, however, the Legends Manga released two additional full manga chapters to accompany the release! Thankfully for us, fellow Seibertronian Sabrblade has been so kind as to provide an interpretation of these chapters. In addition, our friend was able to discern which figures are featured in the issue, both released-and-unreleased, ranging from the title Big-Powered figures to MP-44 Optimus Prime to even Movie-Style Protoforms. Be sure to take a read below and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for more Transformers news and reviews.

Roadfire's

Dai Atlas's

Everyone who sees this news post make sure you read my provided interpretation summaries very carefully, as things do get pretty nuts in these five manga chapters.

Man I wouldn't even know where to start when it come to explaining how much continuity references there are, as well as toy designs featured. This is beyond absurd.

More refined summaries of the two online comics from TFWiki:

https://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Road_to_Legends%27_Revival_Chapter_4:_LG-EX_Big_Powered_Prologue_Part_One
Shortly after hijacking the bodies of the Powered Masters, the Violen Jiger trio conquer a remote planet and put the Powered Masters' abilities as space pioneers to work in reviving "him" by remaking it into a powerful mechanical world to rival the Z Planet—Unicron Neo!

In the 2030s, Smokescreen is cheering The Fallen on during his attack on Cybertron, having gone insane and become a Decepticon after use of the Genetronic Translink System left him with several different minds occupying his body. He is defeated by Goshooter and Shūta while distracted by voices in his head telling him to stop, but is saved and restored in a new jet body by Dreadwing. Dreadwing explains the rise and fall of the Cybertron Alliance that occurred during Smokescreen's slumber and that the inability to end their conflict has made him give up on the future of the Transformer race: he now intends to bring about lasting peace by destroying all Transformers, a goal that Smokescreen sees as his chance for atonement.

In 2038, the two have joined Galvatron II's army, but Smokescreen is defeated again when Unicron Neo attacks them on Chaar. Demanding to know why Unicron has turned on him, being the one to bring him to this world to begin with, Galvatron is told that he serves no purpose given his defeat at the hands of the Monsterbots—his discovery of Beast Power will suffice and Unicron will now acquire that power himself. Galvatron escapes destruction by biting into a piece of solitarium on his person and traveling to the 20th century Earth, where he joins Megatron's army. Unicron Neo turns his attention toward Smokescreen and Dreadwing, reformatting them into new bodies and demanding their loyalty, which they gladly provide in accordance with their goal.

Elsewhere, Optimus Prime has been informed of the Legends World happenings and contacts Megatron, applauding him for his role in creating a world where Autobots and Decepticons built enough trust in each other that they kept it secret for 15 years. Megatron in turn offers to reestablish the Cybertron Alliance so the two factions can rebuild the Legends World, but the conversation is interrupted when the Decepticons are attacked by Unicron Neo. Informed that Violen Jiger has attacked the Z Planet and that Unicron is heading there as well, Optimus Prime departs to Z with Star Saber, Fortress Maximus, Grand Maximus and Ginrai to support the Powered Masters already on their way.

In search of Energon Z, Violen Jiger wreaks havoc on the Z Planet together with Metrotitan and the Metrosquad, revived and powered up from resting on Titan, but the Micromasters are hardly defenseless: not only is Galaxy Shuttle similarly revived and stronger than ever, but Sky Garry, Grandus and Metrobase are all present. Dai Atlas arrives and leads the Micromasters in a counterattack, with the small bots swarming over Vion while the Mini-Cons, Micromasters who attained weapon modes in a plasma energy accident, form weapons for Sonic Bomber and Roadfire. The Micromasters have since mastered plasma energy in order to create Schaeffer Energy, which allows them to combine together into new weapon modes for their larger comrades on the Air Patrol. A former member of the team, the traitor Hawking, taunts them and announces the arrival of Unicron Neo, who has acquired Beast Power and now looms over the planet.

Unicron Neo tears into the Z Planet together with his Decepticon loyalists while also spawning new beast warrior minions, though they are dealt with by the handy arrival of Optimus Prime's reinforcements. Fortress gets ready transform the Maximus, causing much concern about his health issues, but he reveals that he's solved them thanks to Cog, his new butler who serves as a life support system by connecting to the Maximus alongside him. The new "Weaponizer Fortress Maximus" takes on Unicron Neo while Optimus Prime prepares to open the Matrix, only to be stopped by the sentient toy Transformers of the Legends World who warn him that the Matrix is a last resort and that they have their own power to bring to the fore. They combine together with the Mini-Cons into what Armada Thrust identifies as the Unicron of Light, a green Unicron that goes toe-to-toe with Unicron Neo and blasts a hole through him with his Cosmos Bringer cannon. However, while Unicron Neo seems defeated, a smirk emerges his face...

Some ten years after 2021, Roller is informed that Dai Atlas has recovered the Zodiac, the one thing able to revive Optimus Prime, only for Prime's body to be spirited away by a mysterious capsule right in front of him.

In the battle for the Z Planet in 2038, Dai Atlas remembers who was responsible for the theft while also posing as Unicron... it was Dark Nova, who now emerges from Unicron Neo and tears the Unicron of Light apart. Dark Nova explains that he took the appearance of Unicron because it is the thing Transformers most fear, as his people have done before: Dark Nova's true identity is none other than a Vok, and his plan is to eliminate the Transformers now so that their descendants cannot travel back in time and ruin their plans on ancient Earth by protecting the Transformers' symbol of hope, Optimus Prime. For this sake the Vok created Violen Jiger to search for the Zodiac as well as the first Dark Nova, and though that one was defeated, he was just one of two Vok and the second one will not repeat his mistakes.

Dark Nova transforms into planetary robot mode and unleashes Vok Novaroids on the Transformers, who fight back with reverse-engineered Novabots and the successive generations of Autobot leaders present. Smokescreen and Dreadwing remain loyal to Dark Nova as their goals still align, and use their combined mode to clash with Roadfire and Dai Atlas's Land Powered mode. Meanwhile, the two defeated new beast warriors coalesce into a Vok Galaman, an immensely powerful beast warrior who defeats Fortress Maximus, guns down Hot Rod, smashes Ginrai's transtector to bits and manipulates the weather to strike Victory Saber down with a lightning bolt. Optimus Prime won't go down so easily, catching the Vok Galaman off guard by rapidly changing bodies with his Reconfiguration Matrix, but before he can finish the job he's impaled by Dark Nova who absorbs his Matrix energy and discards him. Dark Nova proceeds to dig into the Z Planet for its Energon Z while Violen Jiger presents him with the Zodiac, only to be interrupted by several Eldedroids, mass-produced Optimus Prime-lookalikes controlled by Daniel and Flip Sides. They warn Dark Nova that the very name "Optimus Prime" is a symbol of hope, and even if they fall today, someone like him will always rise and embody his ideals, ready to sacrifice their life in the battle against evil. Inspired by their speech and realizing he's a Prime too, the mortally injured Hot Rod is able to call upon the power of his Energon Matrix and reformat himself into a new Rodimus Prime body. Fortress is spurred on by his brother, Ginrai's transtector is repaired by a Synapse, Victory Saber refuses to fall while his heart of justice still burns, and together the Autobot leaders all release the wisdom within their Matrices towards Optimus Prime.

Years prior, Roller joins the Battlestars to help find Optimus Prime's body, feeling responsible for it disappearing on his watch. He is killed on Lucifer while drawing enemy fire so the other Battlestars can complete the mission, and his remains are placed next to Prime's during the resurrection in hopes that he can be revived as well.

As he lays dying again, Optimus Prime remembers Roller's sacrifice and steels himself to keep fighting just as the Matrix energy reaches him, restoring his Reconfiguration Matrix and allowing him to change into Star Convoy with a transformed Roller in tow. Dai Atlas gives him a ride to Dark Nova and lends him his Energon Matrix-powered Zone Powered Cutter, which Star Convoy uses to bisect the Vok Galaman. Dark Nova is unconcerned given he has the Zodiac on his side, only for Optimus Prime to turn his trailer into a ramp and launch Dai Atlas like a drill rocket that pierces straight through Dark Nova. There's no time to celebrate, however, because the Decepticons arrive and urge them not to destroy Dark Nova as he has consumed Megatron! Indeed, just like last time Dark Nova combines with Megatron, changing shape to become the Star Giant!
