Wonder in the dinobots with actually get to be something other than mindless wreaking machines. I certainly hope so. They were a disappointment in AoE.

You will be super dissapointed then, because it has been said that Grimlock is the only dinobot returning from AOE.

When did they say that? From all of the interviews and news articles I've read, they've never mentioned it being only Grimlock in the movie. They always said "the return of the dinobots" with the addition of newer minidinobots. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Well that was odd. For the entire length of the movie franchise, although I run the gamut of emotions and thoughts about trailers ranging from pretty cool to meh...I've never seen anything that incited an angry response until this morning, of course it could all be for nothing.

*Hopefully* what we are not seeing is Grimlock getting killed off (ala Leadfoot and Ratchet in AoE) . You don't kill the family dog...you just don't.

Mark Walhberg mentioned mini dinobots, so not what we previously saw. And the producer said that grimlock has a role in the begining.

And thats it. There has been no mention of all the dinobots from the previous film returning, please show me where you read that.

Here is the mention:

So is it more than Grimlock, or mostly Grimlock?

Di Bonaventura: There’s a few others, but Grimlock is, to me–I like Grimlock the most, so that’s probably why I talk the most about it, you know? And I just saw a sequence, so that’s probably why it’s on the top of my head. He’s funny. He’s like a naughty dog in this movie. He’s really sheepish when he does something wrong. He’s a great character. He’s really–we’re bringing out a side of him that you’re going to like–you’re going to relate to.

From reading that, I would really not put my hopes up to see anything more than grimlock with significant screentime.

We are all no doubt aware of the impeccable continuity from one movie to the next, so we know how improbably it is that a character would either appear or disappear without any explanation.

I actually had no idea any Dinobots would be in this film, but this now even raises my suspicions. Looks like Cemetery Wind, or something worse still exists. Probably all the other Dinobots were hunted down in between films and Grimlock is the last... :( ...Really hope I am wrong.

Like who?

Good is a subjective opinion there is no universal answer to who is the best choice and you know why?

Because there is no best choice that's how life works there is no perfect choice or ways to do things Bay leaving the movies isn't going to magically make them amazing and there is all the other people who work on the movies like producers and screen writers.

What would you do to make the movies "better" more robot screen time, no humans in a human made franchise?

How to make the movies "better"? How about internal logical consistency within the narrative and/or the franchise?

I agree with your statement that removing Michael Bay does not automatically make the movie franchise better, but this above statement puzzles me. Are you stating that just because we are humans, and we make films, that the films themselves have to have human characters? Or are you saying that because this particular version of Transformers relies heavily on human characters over the past 5 films, that all-of-a-sudden removing them would not make things better?

In either case, the best 3 movies in TF history (yes I know this is my opinion but...) were:

1.Transformers:The Movie (1986) -very little human involvement
2. Predacons Rising -zero humans &
3. Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger -zero humans

My ideal Transformers film would be one with no humans, taking place perhaps between Cybertron and other Alien Worlds, but whether or not that could be done with this franchise, or require a full reboot I guess remains to be seen.

All that being said, I don't hate the current film series as many fans do. I really liked the first film, the 2nd and 3rd had great action sequences, but the human cast killed it for me, so I very rarely watch them. The 4th film actually made a great choice ditching most of the humans from the first 3 and replacing them with *better* choices IMHO. As for this 5th film, I reserve judgment until I actually see it.

No the toy seen so far does not have that.

I don't see anyone rushing Bee?

So Optimus accepts a mission of redemption from his creators? Willingly or what?

Also, with Grimlock: does it look like he is teleporting right into the ground? It just looks like he shows up magically in a blast of dirt

Wow. When I think Grimlock, I do not think "Sheepish, naughty dog." Even in the last film, his first action was transform and attack! I despair.

Awesome! Great teaser!! Cannot wait until this thing comes out. Looking forward to every bit of it. Why so many complaints? A true t'formers fan will accept it for what it is, not what YOU think it should be... so sick of reading about it. Enough with the speculation already. I love everything there is about the brand, past and present. Take the good, with the not so good. Brings joy to each and every one of my days. Wishing it would do the same for others. Either learn to live with it or find something else to b!+c# about. We should be celebrating this, not criticizing.

Cars is a human made franchise and they dont have any humans in it, so I dont really get that last point.

And the toys in Toy story have waaaaaay more screen time than any human. So I really dont think thats related to anything.

Also, that Combiner Wars youtube show had no humans... oh wait, forget that last part.

I don't think those TRF guys could kill Grimlock, but it would be entertaining to watch them try! Also, when we get the Optimus close-up, not only does he have the red paint on his face, but the blue paint on that side of his head is gone :-?

Never been a good explainer or decent with words sorry.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... rsAreHuman

For example my Mum really could not care that much for the robots themselves because their not real she mostly sees the movies just to watch an action movie that and she is going to watch this movie because Mark Wahlberg is in it.

My point being that humans are necessary to be in the movies because one the movies are not leaving Earth anytime soon unless we get an animated cartoon that is not live action but mostly because humans connect better with humans.

Also removing humans isn't going to make the movies magically amazing either its the plot not the characters in the plot that need adjustments.

There's also, of course, the point of production to consider. Animating sophisticated CGI like this for... what's the average length of these movies, 2 and a half hours? on end is extremely taxing on the wallet. They've been able to give more screentime to the 'bots with each consecutive movie but focusing on humans and giving them screentime is also a budgetary reason as much as it is a so-people-can-relate-easier reason.

This too I just didn't mention it because I hope most people actually understand how difficult making believable Cgi like this with only half a year after filming to get it done before the movie comes out.

True, most people would understand this, but it's still important to mention as an underlying reason and cause for the sake of argument and to bring it to the front of peoples' minds in such a subject.

As always, great disussion points. And you are 100% right.

The Combiner Wars series gave us no humans, and it was all about the robots, and plus it was basing them on their g1 design.

All things fans have been asking for, for years.

And we know that wasnt enough.
Re: New Super Bowl Transformers: The Last Knight Trailer Online (1856978)

The main problem mostly lies in how humans are used in Transformers fiction - nothing interesting is really done with them and they feel forced in most of the time; situations have to be created for them to be relevant rather than their presence actually providing something for the plot and being woven into it. Animated, Beast Wars and IDW are the only times I really feel a human presence is pulled off well because there's actually something important going on and they affect the plot and narrative rather than just being forced to be there by studio mandates.
You've got humans in G1, Armada, these live-action Movies... but they don't really do anything as such, or at least anything that couldn't easily be achieved through other and more natural means. It's a bit like the effects of having to do something intrusive in the story for the sake of selling a toy but... sometimes even worse.

Designs and fan pandering (If you could call CW fan pandering) does not automatically make a great form of media because the entertainment is the important part and the basis of what we decide if its good in our opinion whether that be a super good story with deep characters or an action packed explosion fest with good guys shooting up villains like paper or a scary/thrilling movie that makes you tense up or jump in your seat or perhaps something so hilarious that you cant breath over your laughter while you choke and suffocate on your popcorn wait what?

Oh yeah, and Sari is my favorite humany thing in Transformers. (She's half human and half Cybertronian actually, but I digress. Still fills that roll.)

Kicker from Energon(?) was probably the worst human character ever in Transformers fiction.

Well we are the fans there is no doubt about us being connected to them it's the main audience the "regular casuals" who want to see an action flick for example my family and to drive it home I will give you an opinion from my uncle about caring about them.

My Uncle thinks it's ridiculous that people can get so emotionally overinvested in non human characters in general mostly because their not real and are just computer animation.

And from what I can tell that seems to be a lot of other casual people's ways of seeing it just without saying so .

Yes proper implementation is key when it comes to humans we can't have them soaking up attention like a sponge and doing crazy thing like taking down a Transformer with a handgun but we also cant just have them doing nothing on the side and just watching because that would be boring entertainment wise.

I think the best way to put humans in Transformers is if disguise actually means something for once since really outside of the beginning of a show or the movies disguise means nothing at all and really never has like make them actually need to be in vehicle forms in public and outside of base most of the time and only Transform when Decepticons attack and even then the Decepticons should also follow this rule hence needing humans or at least holograms to go out in public.

Also making the Transformers need to learn about Earth's culture and not simply the world wide web solving everything and the task for teaching the Autobots would fall onto the human(s) characters.

Beast Wars had the proto-humans in Season 3. It is a borderline case, admittedly, but there's more of a point to them being in the plot than most human characters

Sari was probably my favourite human sidekick too. The whole cybertronian origins thing is also what weaves her into the plot and why I think Animated done it well (and even before it was revealed, there was her whole thing with the key).

Agreed.

In any case, think this has veered off-topic a bit - this IS a thread for TLK after all and we're not specifically talking about their human characters aside from in a general sense. I think a general discussion thread on the place of human characters in Transformers would be interesting, though... as long as half the thread isn't just people saying they suck

I dont think so, we are all here because we love these giant robots to death. I dont think anyone got here because they were fans of Shia Lebeouf (but Patrick Dempsey maybe :-? ).

Season 2 as well. Lets not forget that Dinobot's most awesome moment in the entire series is all because of the presence of humans on the show ;)

He died saving humanity!

(Actual Cannibal) Shia LaBoeuf has become so much more of recent. I'd probably watch him in something.

Also, TLK. Yeah. That's a thing that's happening.
Hopkins and suchnots.

Totally forgot that happened in Season 2 instead of 3 :HEADHURTS:
I actually feel bad about that because Code of Hero is genuinely one of the best Transformers Cartoon episodes ever produced.

He was pretty good in Fury as a supporting character.

He had a pretty nice beard there for some reason.

Oh, I mean offscreen. He's a bizarre human being with an even more bizarre sense of artistic endeavour. Apparently a long way from 10 years ago.

(Fury was pants to me.)

But yes, Wahlberg hm? Explosions, hm? I like the idea of the maker being Solus Prime, however unfounded that rumour may be!
