It's been a while since we've had Rescue Bots news! Our very own Seibertron has spotted some brand new Rescue Bots Academy figures. Over at a Target in Rosemont, IL he found the larger changing figures of Whirl and Medix, but Hot Shot seems to have sold out (though we already have a sighting of him). At this same Target we also got a first look at Mega Mighties Hot Shot and Bumblebee in the wilds.

Meanwhile, at a Des Plaines, IL Kmart he also found the latest Rescan-sized Wedge figures. Wedge has also shown up on Amazon as well as Salvage which is currently sitting at a markup.

I've seen the Whirl figure in stores. She is BIG! Like, taller than the original six Rescue Bots.

Medix too. His new toy is larger than his original.

Yeah that bigger Whirl (and Medix) are in stores now. My son has so many Rescan-size figures that I’m hesitant to get Whirl.

Keep Rescan scale and we’ll keep collecting.

Is that Salvage mix truck in the rescue bots academy 4 pack. The face does not look like salvage so i'm wondering if its a re-deco.

It's Whirl, Wedge, Hot Shot, and Hoist.

Vanleer wrote:Is that Salvage mix truck in the rescue bots academy 4 pack. The face does not look like salvage so i'm wondering if its a re-deco.

They're all redecos. Whirl of VTOL jet Bumblebee (her Megabots size figure is effectively an upsized version of Rescan helicopter Blades), Wedge of Salvage (Wedge's first toy was a redeco of Arctic Boulder), Hot Shot of Rock Rescue (ATV) Bumblebee (his first toy was effectively an upsized version of the same Bumblebee, while his second figure was a remold of VTOL jet Bumblebee), and Hoist is a redeco of.... Hoist - the Rescan series figure from the original Rescue Bots.

Meanwhile, hovercraft Hot Shot appears to be a remold of fireboat Heatwave, the Megabots sized Medix is functionally an upsized Rescan car mode Bumblebee. That blue redeco of racecar Heatwave -- is that Chase or Whirl? And like Hoist, ambulance Medix ia a redeco of RB Medix. The large size Wedge looks like it might be essentially an upsized Rescan bulldozer Boulder.

File this one under "things you didn't know you wanted until it existed." Autobase Aichi's blog posted new stock photos of upcoming Rescue Bots Academy figures coming to the Rescan class and it would be hard to ignore the dino-mode Grimlock that turns into a motorcycle! He was shown at Toy Fair 2019, but at the time we didn't really know what we were looking at. Yes, it's silly, but that's what makes it fun! As you would expect from Rescue Bots it's a simple figure and may not satisfy most collectors, but it does have an effective transformation. And I love that goofy grin, what a happy bike!

There's also a new Whirl race car figure in the same class alongside Brushfire, Heatwave, Bumblebee, and Chase. Plus there's new stock images of the Academy Rescue Team box set shown at Toy Fair. So what do you think of the new Grimlock trading in his bot mode for a motorcycle? Sound off in the Energon Pub forums below!

I'm a little surprised this isn't green already since this is most definitely RID Grimlock and not the less kid friendly other Aligned Grimlock. I guess he's in his "Gold Armor" mode.

What makes you so sure this is RID Grimlock? Cyberverse has a kid friendly grimlock at the moment.

Because RID and Rescue Bots are part of the same continuity and Cyberverse isn't. Aligned continuity is a strange animal.

And now I'm worried that they'll make Aligned continuity even more confusing by having Grimlock show up in the RBA cartoon acting like Cyberverse Grimock rather than RiD Grimlock.

I am surprised we are still considering the alligned continuity a thing. I dont think hasbro does. And in any case, isn't this also Alligned Grimlock?

Image

He ends up having the same colour scheme as this bike. All I mean is at this point, I dont think that continuity means anything so that grimlock is basically just rescue bots grimlock taking some G1 cues.
Re: New Rescue Bots Academy figures found at retail (2021200)

If a G1-looking Grimlock shows up in RBA with a caveman-speaking dino mode and a normal-speaking robot mode a la Cyberverse Grimlock, then we can just consider him FOC Grimlock having calmed down over the years since he's the Grimlock who first started the whole "savage dino mode/calm robot mode" thing that Cyberverse Grimlock utilizes.

As far as anyone official still treating Aligned as a thing, Nicole Dubuc at least still does.

In a rare case of "this never happens" we're treated to a first look at a figure that nobody knew existed until it showed up at retail. Thanks to Darryl Wall (@DWallsEpicHauls) for giving us our very first look (not even at Toy Fair!) at Rescue Bots Academy Flip Racers Whirl after finding it at retail in Nova Scotia and posting it to Twitter. It isn't a figure that will interest most Transformers fans, but it's nice to know that in 2019, with all the events and leaks and retailer assortment lists, there's still the occasional surprise.

And if you've found anything out in the wilds that you think is news worthy feel free to take a picture and send it into us and post it in the Energon Pub Forums!

Two thing:

1. The Rescue Bots Academy designs are starting to rival the Robot Heroes figures in terms of TF cuteness.

2. I love the diagram on the front of the packaging showing the vehicle being flipped into robot mode by way of a delicately extended index finger, as if that's the "proper" way to do it.

Arcee? No, R/C, as in radio controlled! Thanks to fellow Seibertronian Rysquad we've learned of cool new Transformers toy for our younger fans, the Transformers Rescue Bots Academy Bumblebee vs. Chase Bumper Cars Twin Pack. Rysquad spotted these at their local Target in Murrieta, CA. These use a not uncommon remote controlled vehicle design which ejects the rider of one vehicle when certain crash pads are collided with by the other. As shown in the images these are retailing for $29.99. The scale doesn't appear to be too dramatically different from the standard Rescue Bots so you can create a whole racing side quest to your regularly scheduled Rescue Bots adventures. Who will win? Bumblebee? Chase? Hey, wait...Chase, I just got that. Are you like me and just got that? Well sound off and let us know in the forums. I know the IDW Whirl jokes are a bit played out at this point, but the fact that this Whirl is not only also a police officer, but has also adopted a VTOL jet alt mode like he had in MTMTE made it impossible for me to pass on this set.

You'd think I was talking about either a very large door in need of propping open or a really big X-Wing fighter pilot but no, not those Wedges, Transformers Rescue Bots Academy Wedge! Just in from our friendformers over at TFW2005 via their board member worldsgreatest we have a report of a sighting of Playschool Rescue Bots Academy 11 inch tall Wedge the Construction-bot at a US Target in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Currently priced at $14.99 this item aimed at younger fans isn't too bad a deal given the size. Enjoy the image below and share your thoughts in the forums. And now, something intended for the younger Transformers fans. Via online listings from Smyth's Toys, in the U.K., we have two new playsets of Rescue Bots Wedge, and Hoist. While the two individual toys look to be different molds, the "Command Center" parts of these playsets seem to be simple remolds of each other. They also share a light up feature in the crane arm of each Command Center.

While this is for an audience younger than most fans coming ot this site, Hasbro was rather excited about these new Mega Mighties toys. This was a line where all the big names from their various toy lines would be reinterpreted as cute super deformed action figures for kids. These were a more stylistic take than their Titan heroes which were rather static looking and expressionless. While Hot Shot and Bumblebee were part of the first batch, we are getting new Transformers themed toys with Optimus prime and Rescue Bots heatwave. Not all retailers have these yet as they are rather new. Optimus and heatwave were found at Walmarts in Canada, as part of a new Rescue Bots display for the holiday season. Optimus is also available on Amazon.com for $11.99..

You can see stock images and a image of the Walmart display below.

From Decoys to Action Masters, we all know Transformers are so cool that even non-transforming Transformers are worth our attention. Thanks to an update from Hamley's of London we've learned of the new wave 2 of Rescue Bots Academy mini figures characters. Included in the blind bagged wave 2 are Wedge, Hotshot, Optimus Prime, Medix, Hoist, Bumblebee, Whirl, and Chase. Like the wave prior each character has two poses making a total of 16 different figurines, each at 6.5 cm tall. Are you a completist who's gotta catch 'em all? Coming right along with news of MP-49 Black Convoy being listed at BigBadToyStore, we have a new listing for the younger fans of the franchise, in the form of case assortment for Wave 3 of the Rescue Bots Rescan series, due in January. What's interesting about this listing is that two characters, Medix and Chase, have new molds. In this listing from site sponsor Entertainment Earth, we can see that Chase has the new altmode of a drag racer car, and Medix is now an offroad vehicle. 2019 wasn't a bad year for Hot Shot. Aside from his Generations Selects Transformers: Cybertron exclusive version he saw several of his Rescue Bots Academy likeness released. Thanks to a head's up fro our own ScottyP we've learned the latest Transformers Rescue Bots Academy Hot Shot has popped up on the Hasbro website. This is the larger sized assortment that sells for $14.99, with this particular toy looking similar to the Hot Shot previously found in the recent Academy Rescue Team 4-pack (just larger and with some slight difference in deco). From the website description:

"Selected to become a Rescue Bots Academy trainee by none other than Optimus Prime himself, Hot Shot is the hero of the team!

Little heroes ages 3 and up can imagine going on daring mission with one of their favorite Transformers Rescue Bots Academy characters! Designed with Easy 2 Do conversion and sized right for small hands, the Hot Shot toy converts from robot mode to vehicle mode and back again in 1 simple step! In bot mode, the Hot Shot figure features a fun, button-activated “Splash Blaster” rescue tool, inspired by the one featured in the animated series. Boys and girls will love pretending to race to the rescue with this 6-inch collectible Transformers toy robot!
