These new images of the now colored figure come from a post on twitter by the designer of Art Storm's EM Gokin line, Alan Moriguchi.
This is a stylized non transforming figure representing God Ginrai from the Transformers Masterforce series, who we know in the west as Powermaster Optimus Prime.

The Katana's still an odd inclusion, but not a bad one.

WHAT?! Did you know that Transformers itself exists because it took cues from at least 7 other lines?
Takara Diaclone
Takara Microchange
Tomy Plarail
Tomy Zoids
Tokatoku Dorvack
Macross VF-1S Super Valkyrie series
and a toy from ToyCo called 4 Changeable Astro Magnum
So Jetfire and Omega Supreme look terrible too, I guess, because they are taken from other robot toylines?

Why are you telling me the history of transformers because I had a difference of opinion. My goodness the internet creates stupidity on a grand scale, and memes aren't helping you either. You literally wasted precious kilobytes because I just told you and you response to go implode on itself. My,my,my we feel special.
yes I'm a bad ass, thank you. Now run along with your posts and drool over Super God Gundam...err I mean Ginrai

You do know that in anime, everyone gets an inspiration from everything? Starsaber looks like a Gundam Core fighter connected to a G-booster etc etc.
Moriguchi just made the Godginrai form more proportional. The original is as blocky as a cube (which I sure love) and the gun it is sporting comes from the Godbomber version that was not produced.
Not even trying to convince you to buy this but I think it is uncalled for to burn wj88 for his post.
It not transforming............well you had the Action Masters.
On the record, once this gets a retail release date, I'm getting one.

Nah he deserved it by implying I didn't know how many lines Transformers borrowed from and posting that stupid meme. As I have stated it needs to transform and look less Gundam-y.
I want an up-to-date Ginrai and GodBomber not an add on kit or statue that really does not embody what I saw in Super God Masterforce.

But dude, this isnt even a proper Hasbro or Takara release. They just licensed the character to Art Storm for them to make a toy as part of their Gorkin line which isn't based on Transforming figures. It's akin to the Roadbuster release pictured below. I am assuming that since you know so much about the brand, you were aware of this and that it isn't Hasbro or Takara making this figure. It's like all the superdeformed transformers figures out there, just another take from another company on the characters. If anything transformers related had to be a transforming figure to you, then does that mean we can't have any other kind of transformers merchandise?

Do you have Tourette's or something?
Dude I know what companies do and non-transformable transformers yada yada yada. Geez man you keep posting responses like I dont know anything about Transfomers I have been collecting since I was 11 in '84. Man please you want to prove your point...here then:
Yes I was so unaware of other companies making non-transformable figures and I just posted randomly because-- oh lawd forgive me I's not know this was not *gasp* not made by Hasbro/Takara
You really should stop now...I get it, the internet gets it.

But then what is the point of complaining if you know that this company doesnt do transforming toys? You know there are a bunch of products out there for all sorts of collectors, so why do you stop at this one to call it out for it not being the collector's figure it never said it was.
It really does sound exactly as random as you wrote it above.

Again, I have every right to post my opinion. This is why I dislike being on this board because when 5 or more people like a figure and one disseminates you get people like you trying to tell me what I should like and dislike, as if I did not know this was officially licensed 3rd party statue.
So again...imma go back about six posts and state one more time. I do not like the way the figure looks like a Gundam. I do not like the fact they borrowed form another robot line, Gundam, to make the design of Ginrai look so similar to one.
Are we square or is that tick going to make you post again, eh?
If you have a problem with what I said...go get you a mod.

What the internet "gets" is that you are incredibly rude. I don't care how old you are, or how many years you've been collecting - you shouldn't treat people on the boards (or in life) this way.

This God Ginrai isn't a statue, it's an action figure.
I personally like it when Transformers borrow design ques from other Mecha, especially Gundam, Gundam is one of the biggest Mecha properties out there, with some of the best robot designs period. Even HasTak transforming figures have had Gundam elements (Energon and Movie especially), never saw anyone complain about those.
Plus this has some basis in actual fiction, a lot of the Masterforce episodes actually went full on Gundam with Ginrai.
And I have to say, this looks even better in colour than I expected it to, I really want this for my oddities shelf.
Posted by Emerje on February 7th, 2015 @ 3:49am CST
I really don't get the design. The EM Gokin figures were accurate to their character designs while the EX Gokin figures are accurate to the Transformers Cartoon. God Ginrai appears to be an entirely new design that's far more stylized than any official art. I would be much more accepting of something from the show or magazine art.
And really, I don't see how Transformers starting off as an amalgamation of different Japanese robot lines has anything to do with this. This isn't a pre-existing robot toy being renamed God Ginrai. I also don't see how Star Saber being inspired by Gundam makes anything OK. Transformers is a massive franchise of its own, it doesn't need to look like other robot lines. I don't have a problem with non-transformable Transformers, but there is such a thing as over stylized to the point that it doesn't even look like it's supposed to turn into something.

It's also great how anything that's remotely stylized is immediately called a Gundam, reminds me of those people who saw Pacific Rim and called it Power Rangers.
Fun fact: A robot can have a stylized aesthetic without looking like a Gundam, can you believe it?

There's stylized and there's ! I not a fan of Gundam. I barely saw any Gundam. But by god, that Goking Ginrai look so much like a Gundam, it look like a straight repaint of an actual Gundam!
Sheesh, all series have it's style and trope. When a 3rd party figure take the entire style of a franshise, it's not "stylized" anymore. It's now part of that freaking universe! Those who said that Pacific Rim looked like Power Rangers were out of it. Those mecha look NOTHING like any PR mechs. However, that Goking Ginrai IS a Gundam. Plain and simple. You have to be blind not to notice it.

Still, it IS being made. Which mean Masterforce is still popular. There's also that 3rd Party upgrade kit for AOE Evasion Optimus Prime that came out. (I own it and it make a way more accurate Ginrai than the Gokin one.) There's also that other 3rd party figure. Also, the licenced Gutto Kurru Ginrai and Minelba fibures. (I just bought the Ginrai one to display with my G1 God Ginrai). And finally, the Minelba model kit of Wonderfest. It's lots of Masterforce merchs that came out recently. Both official and unofficial.
THAT'S what give me hope for a future God Ginrai MP from Takara. Because Ginrai IS G1 and popular!

I sure can!
Energon Mirage is the first I think of:
Look at them legs and feet

ROTF Hubcap, again the feet, although I think the head looks like a bit of a "moviefied" Mobile Suite head.
The head on ROTF Brawn/ Outback always looked like a Japanese Supermecha head to me, just without the long pointy antennae.

The mold has a few other features about it that feel very Super Robot to me, doesn't come across like it in pics all to much, it's more when you have it in hand and fiddle about with it. It's really surprising. It's a fantastic mold and would make an awesome army builder.
Movie 1 Protoform Starscream's chest is another example, I mean paint that thing blue, white, and read, and it would look like something from one of the more modern Gundam incarnations.

I see a bit in the legs, but it's mostly the chest and shoulders.
Now apparently according to Cybergundam, this isn't from Artstorm, but a Wonderfest garage kit from some guy....

A great example below. If you didnt know it was an official Transformers, you'd think that Beast Wars Neo Magmatron is some random demon from the Devilman universe.
I'm not liking this one bit so I'm selling mine. PM me if interested.

Go ahead, jump in my sh** about how TF's took from other lines. I f***ing DARE YOU!
Yes, I read through every post in this thread and I agree with bvxza 100% on his assessment of this figure and how he was treated for making the comments he made. It was unwarranted and you all should be ashamed of yourselves. This figure is an absolute waste of time and plastic and IN MY OPINION looks like crap. So suck on that!! Jerks!

Since you've barely seen any Gundam, how fair is it that you're comparing God Ginrai to one?
-Kanrabat- wrote:Those who said that Pacific Rim looked like Power Rangers were out of it. Those mecha look NOTHING like any PR mechs.
Exactly, I'm implying you guys are out of it as well, it's the same type of aesthetic ignorance that comes from your unfamiliarity with other properties.
-Kanrabat- wrote:Still, it IS being made. Which mean Masterforce is still popular.
THAT'S what give me hope for a future God Ginrai MP from Takara. Because Ginrai IS G1 and popular!
We know Masterforce is still popular, there's a reason why Super Ginrai came in third on the Masterpiece fan's choice poll.

Don't you find it refreshing though? it's nice to have something different every once in a while, it's why toys like Magmatron or Gigatron are so well remembered today. At least Magmatron still looks organic like a Beast Wars toy, but Gigatron is way over the top, which is why I love the design so much.
-Kanrabat- wrote:I'm not liking this one bit so I'm selling mine. PM me if interested.
I'm actually very interested, I always wanted a Magmatron cause I've only heard good things about that mold, but I've got way too many orders going on currently...

I get this whole "cranky old truck" is your "thing", and I'm okay with it, provided you do it within the rules.
Your comments are welcome, but you can do it without the profanity and insulting other members. This is the second time I've asked you to tone it down, if staff have to pull you up again you're getting a warning.

This intrigues me, could you give me a few examples ?
I sure can!
Energon Mirage is the first I think of:
Look at them legs and feet

ROTF Hubcap, again the feet, although I think the head looks like a bit of a "moviefied" Mobile Suite head.

So I was right, he was borrowing an asethic from Gundam. So could this have been incorrectly reported as an Art Storm product?

Nuh-uh! Everyone knows that all pointy robots are either Gun-damns or Evajelions!
Sarcasm aside, you are absolutely right, a robot can have a stylized aesthetic without looking like a Gundam:
This figure is, however, a Gundam. And before you try to say I don't know what I'm talking about I've seen everything from OG to Build Fighters. This is a Gundam.
That aside, it's true, this wasn't made by Art Storm, it's a resin kit made by a circle (what they call groups of fans that make figures, comics, games, and the like for sale at places like Wonfes and Comiket) called Burivary System. The confusion seems to come from the fact that the guy who sculpted this, Alan Moriguchi, also sculpted Art Storm's EM Gokin Roadbuster/Mugen Calibur and Blue Jet. His twitter account can be found here with a lot more pictures. And notice what Alan's twitter icon is, bvzxa probably wasn't wrong saying God Ginrai looked like a RX-93. God Ginrai is selling for 18,500jpy or US$155.

Same with ALL SOC, Transformers, Eva etc
Take a look at this one of the power up mushrooms in Fiveman,
change the colors and you get
So there really isn't a biggy issue here. All the artwork/design are inspired from something.
