It seems there isn't that much love for the 3-step Transformers among the collector community. But what if they looked good? I mean real good? Like this:

Transformers News: New Photos of Takara Transformers TED-11 Big Steeljaw (3 step)

These are pictures from Hishashi Yuki's Twitter (TF Yuki) of the upcoming TED-11 Big Steeljaw and below you can see the difference between the Takara and Hasbro releases.

While the 3 steps may be for a younger audience, they are still engineered by Takara (3 step Grimlock and Bumblebee are done by the same guy who made MP 10) and I like how they show great pride in their accomplishments throughout the line, regardless of the amount of steps it takes to transform.

The mold isn't all that great, but at least Takara does an excellent job at detailing. However, there's one thing I don't like. Why does the blue have to be that dull? Steeljaw looks like he would need a bath himself.

...to sit with you and let it all out, sweat it all out.

Also, that 3 step Steeljaw is look a lot better than Hasbro's effort. I do like the 3-step guys. Is there any word on Takara's take on Thunderhoof? I already liked Hasbro's, but looking at what they're doing to Steeljaw, me thinks Takara might one-up Hasbro.

WHAT?!?!?!!?

Dude, its a job, the man was given a contract by his company. Its not like he has a choice, and he chooses to make the best of it. Should the caretaker of a luxury hotel feel ashamed of taking out the trash too? More to the point (since its the same guy who also did Devastator), should he feel ashamed that he couldnt give more articulation to Devastator because Hasbro wouldnt let him add more parts? WTF?! Shame on your comment.

Clarification :

SkyLynx has Wreck Gar interact with him - I think he fits on his back if I recall correctly - anyway he's officially part of that Gestalt team.

My comment is that since Override is the same mould and thus functionally identical to Wreck Gar his interaction with Sky Lynx would be preferable as the colours are far more suitable than Wreck Gar's brown is for the overall look.

Someone who was at Botcon had said that Wreck Gar fits on a chest plate mode like addition but on the back of the toy instead of the front.
However I notice Victorion seems to use the Motorcycle mould also as an arm cannon (as well as a chest plates) so that may be an option for Sky Lynx too.

Anyway the colours look better than Wreck Gar for that given purpose which is the core of my point.

Agreed Mr. William, I don't hammer down on him not being allowed to put more articulation into Devy, in fact before I was planning to get the CW version, until I saw the UW version. Devy is a great looking figure, and he did the best he could, but he had a lower budget than when he does the Masterpieces! Give the man a break Shockwave7! All the UW version does, is improve it, and make it like how he WANTED it to be like. As he said, he wanted to make it as close to a Masterpiece Devastator as possible. Considering the fact that this is the price of 6 voyagers, and that it has MORE IN IT than just the voyagers (like the the combiner bits), it's understandable that he had to take out some articulation. >:oP I know I may be restating some things that I and other people have already said, but that's my view. William-James88, I agree with you whole heartedly buddy.

Glad you agree. Although he was talking about the three steps and how the same guy who made devy and the mps should be ashamed of working on the 3 steps. And I simply said there was nothing to be ashamed of, its his job, he is told what to work on. And devastator was an example that showed he obviously cant always do what he wants to do, he makes the best of it.

Sure! I think it's the fault of HASBRO, that they are making so many 3-step changers, not the creator himself, it's his job. So still, I agree with you.

I did not speak of some phantom, imaginary hotel janitor, but of a professional toy designer who has proven he can do much better work.

If these 3 steppers were flying off the shelves, then maybe your indignation would have merit. But they're not. My observation stands firm - 'There are better ones to be had.' Only two kinds of collectors seem to want these. Little kids who don't know any better, and fanatical purists who will buy any and every figure in a line just so they can say they have them all. If you think my comment made no sense, that's fine. It was my opinion, and you are entitled to yours, just as I am entitled to mine. But consider this: just because someone who's really good designed 'toy X' means that everybody (including the people who don't like it) should run out and buy it - is a suggestion that is equally nonsensical.

Perhaps, as with Han Solo, I hit a little too close to the mark to get you hopping like this...? As someone who bears the title of 'news staff' for this website, you ought to have a thicker skin than that, good sir. If I had trotted out the grade-school level 'WTF' splutter and started shouting you down over something you had posted - you would probably run to the web masters to try and have me banned.....

You do not understand either the situation or what I have written. My only beef with your statement is that you wrote that a person just doing his job should be ashamed of himself. What right do you have to say that. It doesnt matter what toy we are talking about, your statement is really infantile and shows a great lack of understanding. I can get people being ticked off at Hasbro for making a product that has no inherent worth to anyone, but telling off some guy just doing his job, seriously what is wrong with you? And the guy you are telling off didnt come up with the three steps, or choose to make them over something else. Hasbro had 3 steps and needed takara to enginer them as they always do. And takara gave the job to the guy who makes MPs, showing that they care about quality for any line. And this guy is proud of the transformation he came up with given what he was told to do. Thats it. Thats all I meant.

My thinking that this designer is taking a step down in making a 3-step figure vs. Masterpiece figures does nothing to harm him, or his career. He's ensconced in his job, and my opinions do not jeapordize his work in any way. You are writing and reacting as if my notion that making 3 step figures is beneath his dignity has in some way harmed or diminished him. That was not the case, but if you came to that conclusion, for what it's worth, my apologies that you took it the wrong way. You ought to interpret it as a compliment to his skill that people out there are of the opinion that his work is so good that he could be more selective.

I can only point out that most serious collectors just don't like the 3 step figures. And I specifically don't care for the entire RiD line, or the show. No matter who designs the RiD figures, even if they were made by Leonardo Da Vinci himself. I just don't care for them. I think the Generations/Combiner Wars line blows the socks off RiD. That's not something that can be quantified from person to person. A line can be made by top notch designers, have excellent manufacturing quality, have a great corresponding TV show - but sometimes the public will look at it and say it's just not FUN. Where I live, you can't find hardly any CW figures on the shelf, and RiD seems to have the primary focus of retailers. I admit, as a fan of CW, I resent that RiD seems to be crowding them out.

I think RiD a step down from TF Prime, I have made no bones about it, and said so on previous occasions. I don't like the line any more than I like the Bayverse movies or figures. But I feel the need to point out that I have not presented my views in any way that was vulgar, crass or in any manner that would otherwise break the rules for posting in these forums. I have not personally attacked or hounded anyone, unless I was insulted first. If you think my views are 'infantile' and there is 'something wrong' with me, then make your case to the webmaster. But I think you will be hard pressed to find any conduct in any of my past posts that would be considered fair grounds for banning me.

That is different from :

Shockwave7 wrote:Having worked on MP Transformers should make him even MORE ashamed to have worked on these things.

Your opinion of a toy is perfectly valid, and saying that it does not befit someone's talent is fine as well. But saying someone should be ashamed of their job is pathetic and takes away any value any of your others statements might have, whether valid or not.

And why do you bring up being banned, we dont do that here unless people get really nasty (and I mean unreasonably nasty). Conversations are always encouraged.

I am simply giving you my opinion that if you want to be taken seriously, saying that Shogo Hasui should be ashamed of himself for doing his job (and doing it quite well actually) is not the way to go.

What is a "serious" collector anyway? A collector collect what he like and that's fokking it. Anyone who impose their own tastes on others by affirming what is "worthy" to collect is just an egotistical hipster douche.

I mix and match everything from every lines and every styles. It's if great looking and is fun, and I can afford it, I take it. Meaning, if you are the kind to only collect G1 sealed toys, you are insane.

Collect like ME, the supreme authority of collecting. You don't have to, but if you don't...

Do you have pictures? I knew they placed him with the team but never saw how he was supposed to interact :BOT:

Same, I know he will have some semblance of a cavity on his back, but not sure how/why he could interact with skyreign.

Idk how a motorcycle would help the combined mode anyway on it's back. no sense.... :BOT:

Well, neither does Sky Lynx >:oP

It'd be cool, if it was like a h/k from terminator; except wreck-gar isn't threatening |:|

With all his awesomeness, I'm surprised Sky Lynx is willing to share with anyone, especially with a little orange motorcycle dude :BOT:

CAN42.61$ for a pair of shipped Takara exclusives is not too bad considered that a pair of Blackjacks would cost around CAN30$ with taxes... That is, if I ever find the thing in store.

Meh, Runabout will be perfect for my Takara Menasor and I'll have one that I can keep sealed for my MOSC collection. All for a decent price. Not too shabby!
And no, I'm sure not to pay any customs this time.

Not sure how others define it. I think a serious collector is one who goes for stuff they like. I also lean towards thinking serious collectors shy away from the figures designed for really young kids, like the 3 step figures, or the 'Titan' shampoo bottles. People who are serious about their collections want the good stuff in it, stuff that's a bit more... shall we say, advanced?

Then, as with the issue wherein you took umbrage with my gripes about why Hasbro seems to give their own website HasbroToyShop.com short shrift vs other sites like BBTS, we merely seem to be thinking at cross purposes. I knew exactly what I was talking about, but it just didn't seem to carry over to you.

I intended my comments as a compliment and a tribute to the designer's skill. You interpreted them as an insult to his profession. Let us therefore simply say that neither of us understand what the other's problem is, and leave it at that.

As to why I brought up banning? You are a member of the site's news staff (or so the title says). When a member of a website's staff starts coming at you with vulgar acronyms, questioning your character and saying something is 'wrong' with you, that makes it more serious than if just some other forum poster does it. And this is not the first time you have become, let us say, more zealously contrary to my posts. Like it or not, your title conveys authority. That kind of power has been abused before, and for far less. If you are not that kind of person, then kudos to you. You have more control than others.

Thanks! And yes, I agree, we are at odds yet we dont mean eachother any harm and both respect this designer showing it in a different way. And I am not that kind of staff, just trying to have fun here.

Well I think the colors will match up better, you'll just have to use a fan mode or shave some plastic off of mm's combiner nipples.

He's a sweet little figure. Only complaint I can think of, is that the rear window of the car does not peg into the bot mode chest at all, so things can get a little messy if you miss-handle him.

Remember that Takara listing from way back: TAVVS Sideswipe & Stepper ?

This was the image that came with it:

Well we finally have an actual image of this set found on twitter:

Image

The twitter user (TF-TF) states that it appears the Stepper toy (which is a redeco of the Jazz mold) may be sporting a visor. It is hard to make out though, what do you guys think?

If Stepper has a visor (which I can't tell from that image), than I'll betcha that other Jazz that is coming has it too. ;)^

If stepper is an Autobot, how is this a Vs. Pack? :-?
Maybe it's a RACE?!? 8-)
